Adblock Plus add-on for Mozilla Firefox: block ads. Adblock Plus add-on for Mozilla Firefox: block ads Adblock plus does not work in firefox 56

Today, Internet sites are full of various advertisements, banners and pop-ups. Sometimes this terribly slows down page loading, which can’t help but irritate, especially those who have a slow Internet. In this post I will tell you how, using one add-on for the Mozilla Firefox browser, you can block ads(banners of all types and colors, unwanted pictures and flash animations, pop-up windows and other riffraff) on the pages of websites. This add-on is called Adblock Plus

Why do we need to block ads? Because without all of the above, sites load faster, traffic is saved much better, and surfing the Internet becomes much more comfortable and safer. And advertising is not an eyesore. Well, let's get down to business...

A little about the Adblock Plus add-on

Adblock Plus will allow you to take back control of the Internet and see it the way you want. For the extension, there are over forty filter lists for dozens of languages that will automatically configure it for a variety of purposes, from blocking ads to blocking all known dangerous domains. Adblock Plus also lets you add your own filters using a variety of useful tools, including a context menu for blocking images, a shortcut for blocking Flash movies and Java applets, and an item list for removing invisible elements (like scripts or styles).

Starting with Adblock Plus 2.0, it became possible to allow some unobtrusive advertising in the filter settings. In this way, you can support pages that do not force advertising on visitors. We hope this will result in more pages using non-intrusive advertising.

Now about the installation process and configuration of this wonderful plugin:

Installing Adblock Plus

1. Install the magic Adblock Plus plugin. To install the extension, go to its page - here.

Click on the button “ Add to FireFox

In the window that opens, click "Install Now"

(and just in case, screenshots with the English version:0)

Confirm the installation, if necessary, by pressing the “ Allow

After installation is complete, press the “ Restart FireFox” or restart the browser manually.

Selecting a subscription with filters

Adblock Plus “by itself” will not do anything. It "sees" whatever the web page is trying to load, but it doesn't know which attempts to block. And that's exactly what filters are for - they tell Adblock Plus what should be blocked. Usually you don’t need to create filters yourself - just add a subscription created by other people and use it.

So, you have restarted your browser so that only the installed Adblock Plus plugin can be activated. Immediately after the restart, the page of this plugin should open with a proposal to add filters that will block all advertising in the future.

Which subscription with filters should I choose? When you first launch Adblock Plus, you will be offered a choice of several subscriptions. The complete list is very long. Even so, you shouldn't add every available subscription - each subscription contains filters that will, in some cases, block things that aren't ads. Unfortunately, this cannot be prevented. You'll probably never run into this problem, but it's much more likely to happen if you add too many subscriptions.
As a general rule, you should not use subscriptions that duplicate each other. For example, using EasyList (focused on English-language sites) and some addition to EasyList for your region (for example, RuAdList for Russian-language sites) does not cause problems. However, Fanboy's List (another list with an emphasis on English-language sites) should not be used in combination with EasyList.

So, select EasyList + RuAdList from the drop-down menu. If you initially chose to subscribe to EasyList only,

then you can always add the subscriptions you need, for example, from the site adblockplus.org

You can always change the subscriptions you use by opening Adblock Plus settings (press Ctrl+Shift+E). You can remove any subscription from the list or add a new one by selecting from the menu Filters / Add subscription. After you have made all the necessary changes, click OK.

Or do this:

1. Download the archive you need and unpack it. There will be txt-file.

2. In Mozilla Firefox, click Tools- Settings Adblock Plus

3. In the plugin settings window that appears, select Filters- Import Filters and indicate unpacked txt-file. Agree to offers to add or replace filters.

4. Once you have made all the necessary changes, click OK.

All! You have installed the filters/subscriptions you need and thus blocked a significant part of the advertising content.

Now all that remains is to learn how to use the Adblock Plus plugin.

How to use Adblock to block ads on websites

Filters are a good way to combat various types of advertising, but advertisers are not idle either. They constantly create more and more new pictures, banners and other nonsense. How to deal with this? The “black list” can be updated independently - by adding unwanted materials to the add-on filter.

How to block bbanners, unwanted pictures, other images and frames:

1. First we need to find an unwanted banner that we don’t want to see in the future.

2. Next, you need to right-click on it and select the item from the drop-down list "Adblock Plus: Block Image"(or, depending on the content type, "lock frame"), and then in the window that opens, click OK.

Now you definitely won’t see this banner on the site anymore.

3. In the same way, you can block other advertising banners on the site.

Note: Before you click OK Look carefully at the path indicated in the filter line, perhaps there is a chance to immediately cut off all banners from this site. For example, we see http://www.site.ru/ads/reklamka.jpg. Word ads most likely means a subpath to all banners, i.e. they are all loaded from there. In this case, it is enough to change the file name (in our case reklamka.jpg) to an asterisk and all banners from this site will be removed at once, i.e. the resulting filter will be http://www.site.ru/ads/* after which we actually press in OK.

How to block flash banners or animations

1. We find an annoying flash banner or animation that we no longer want to see on this site.

Or, here you can see it better:

3. Then you can immediately press Add filter.

4. Then click OK. After that, we reload the page and banner as if it never happened.

5. We block all remaining flash banners in the same ruthless manner.

Note: You need to be careful when creating a blocking filter. Often the plugin offers you to block everything at once, and not just one picture, that is, there is a chance to block not only a harmful banner, but also pictures on the site in general, which, as you understand, is undesirable. Therefore, when you create a filter according to a rule, switch the circle to the final path:

Of course, it’s worth doing this if you need it, that is, you want to block everything at once: 0)

What to do if Adblock Plus does not block ads?

Let’s say that when Adblocker is turned on, advertising blocks are still shown on the site. For example, a context block from the Gde.ru site. You need to create a rule yourself, following which Adblock Plus will block unnecessary code.
We create a filter as follows. Right-click on the ABP icon and select from the list "Open list of items".

Next, from the list of elements, manually or through the search bar, select the one you need, double-click on it with the mouse and click OK or "Enter" in order to block it. You can, of course, do the same through the menu "Lock element/image..." :0)

In the window that opens, select which mask to use to filter the pages. In this case, only the script (the first circle) is cut off.

This way you can block any images and even some page elements.

If you want to return everything back, then proceed as follows. If you have the add-ons panel enabled, an add-on icon should appear on it Adblock Plus, with which you can call up the control menu for this add-on. If the panel is not enabled, you can enable it like this View - Toolbar - Add-ons Panel.

1. On the panel, click on the icon and select filter settings.

2. On the tab Custom filters choose Blocking rules - actions - hide/show

Here it is - our filter, now just uncheck the box, refresh the page and the banner will become visible again.

So that unlock any image, you need to right-click on the ABP icon and select the item from the list "Filter settings...". After this, a whole list of different filters will open, in which you can easily adjust the filter you need or completely remove it.

In order not to search for a long time in this huge list of filters, click “Edit - Find Filter” and enter the address of the site on which you want to correct/remove the filter.

How to remove ad blocking on a website

The fact that the plugin already blocks all contextual advertising and some banners on an open site is indicated by a red icon on the add-ons panel.

If you do not want any advertising to be blocked on the sites you need, you can temporarily disable this plugin. How can this be done? Very simple. You just need to right-click on the Adblock Plus icon and select the item there “Disable at: http://site address/”.

Note: The ABP button may have a different position on browser panels. For example, an icon in the upper right corner that changes color from red (adblock enabled) to green (adblock disabled) in the Toolbar.

Removing Adblock Plus

Adblock Plus can be removed like any other extension. Need to open Tools - Add-ons, find Adblock Plus in the list and press the button "Delete".

Please note that the settings are not removed along with the extension. If you reinstall Adblock Plus later, the program settings will be valid again. If you want a clean installation of Adblock Plus, you need to delete the folder "adblockplus" in user profile ().
Also you need to go to about:config and reset all parameters starting with "extensions.adblockplus"(to reset, right-click on the parameter and select Reset in the context menu).

Based on materials from adblockplus.org, moyizametki.ru, sonikelf.ru

Now, as for more cunning advertising, like the video for Lyra, which at one time appeared at the bottom of any lyric page. We put a support from here - addition Element Hiding Helper, which extends the capabilities of Adblock Plus by making it easier to create rules for hiding elements.

You just need to select the element that you want to hide and indicate by what attributes this element should be recognized in the future. A rule to hide the element will be automatically created and added to the Adblock Plus filter list.
Right-click on the advertisement and select “examine element.” A panel of several bookmarks appears at the bottom. On the left side of the panel, select the div#GIFtr bookmark, and on the right side of the panel, select the bookmark "ABP:Hide". A window pops up asking you to press a radio button. "www.site".

Voila! Everything is pristinely clean and monastically neat.

For the Google Chrome browser there is also a similar add-on - Adblock Plus - which has almost identical functionality. You can download the addon both from the Google portal and from the developers’ website.
The Opera Internet browser contains standard ad blocking tools. To force this browser not to show certain content on the selected site, just right-click on the text field and select "Block content."

Then you will need to click on the object that you want to block. In this case, the browser will automatically mark the block.

After all the manipulations, press "Ready" to add all blocked content to the Opera filter.

The video instructions show how to install an add-on that blocks advertising banners in different browsers (Adblock Plus - for and, Opera Adblock - for).

Well, that seems to be all. Now you have the necessary minimum knowledge to block annoying ads in your browser using the wonderful Adblock Plus plugin and turn surfing the World Wide Web into a real pleasure!

To summarize, the AdBlock Plus plugin (especially for the Mozilla Firefox browser) is rightfully considered one of the most “hard-hitting” enemies of advertisers and web developers today

There is no simple Adblock for Mozilla Firefox, like Google Chrome, there is an analogue, Adblock Plus. Therefore, I will show you how to disable it. In general, there are so many of these Adblocks now that I’m already confused myself..

A few words about Adblock itself. This is a super solution, and it’s the most popular for a reason: it blocks ads clearly and without gags. Many users complain that Adblock loads Mozilla, but I haven’t noticed anything like that. If you think that this is because I have a powerful processor, then no, it’s just modern, but far from the most powerful (by the way, the Pentium G3220 model). So I don't know what's going on here.

With Adblock, the Internet is much cleaner than without it. So you need to disable or delete it only when there is really a need for it.

That's how long I've been using Mozilla, that's how much I've had Adblock, I don't even remember the time when I didn't have it in my browser... That's how things are...

I will show you how to disable this extension completely or only for a specific site, and how to remove it altogether.

So, let's imagine that we need to disable ad blocking only in the Yandex search engine. See how to do it. Open your browser and go to the Yandex website. There will be an Adblock icon at the top, click it and you will see this menu:

Look what's there. Disable only on Yandex.ru - this means that Adblock will not work on the entire Yandex website, that is, if the line contains the name of the Yandex website, then advertising will not be blocked on all such pages. If you select Disable only on this page, this means that advertising will not be blocked only on the current page. And turn it off everywhere, I think this is already clear, this is to turn off Adblock altogether

When you have disabled blocking on the site, there will be an icon of this gray color:

Now there is another way to disable Adblock, this is no longer a function of the extension itself, it is a browser function. Open the menu and select Add-ons there (you can also get there if you paste it into about:addons):

Here you will have the Adblock Plus add-on, and look, you will have a Disable button and a Delete button. Accordingly, if you want to disable the add-on, then press one button, and if you delete another, well, everything is simple:

If Adblock is disabled, you can also enable it later:

Well, that is, I think that you won’t have any problems disabling Adblock in Mozilla. By the way, you, like me, may also have

The most popular add-on for blocking ads in the Mozilla browser is the Adblock Plus application for Firefox. More than a dozen million users have given their preference to this extension. Other applications, including those, received significantly fewer users. If you look at the ratings in any category, Adblock Plus Firefox takes the lead in popularity. The demand for this expansion is justified for a number of reasons. Many users are not only annoyed by the amount of advertising garbage on some sites, but also simply interfere with searching and receiving the necessary information. Adblock Plus for Firefox allows you to stop adapting to the content of Internet sites. The user is not distracted by anything, and saving traffic significantly increases the speed when surfing the global network.

This extension contains over four dozen special tables in many languages for all kinds of tasks:

  • Pop-up blocker;
  • Cutting advertising;
  • Blocking unreliable Internet resources;
  • Creating your own filters;
  • Removing hidden elements.

Installing Adblock Plus for Mozilla Firefox is as easy as installing any other popular application.

To do this, go to the settings and select the “Add-ons” tab in the context menu.

Note: Users with a graphical interface in English should not have problems, since the icons are the same in all versions.

In the search box you need to write “adblock plus” and the application you are looking for will appear in the window.
