Hello friends! This is Andrey Khvostov, founder of the DohodSistemno.ru project. Today I’ll tell you about the volume mixer and where to find it.
Why did the sound disappear on my computer? Why does the sound disappear on my laptop? Perhaps the reason is that the volume icon or volume mixer has disappeared.

The sound mixer or sound icon is a volume control on the bottom horizontal bar, notification area, or system tray in Microsoft Windows.

Located to the left of the laptop battery charging icon. When connecting headphones, headsets, downloading programs that have a volume control function, or any other actions, the sound mixer disappears.

We are looking for it in its usual place, in the lower right corner, but it is not there. It's unpleasant, especially when you urgently need to change the sound volume.

I encountered this myself, so I decided to write this post. Next we will look at how to restore the volume icon.

Volume mixer

Getting the volume icon back is quite simple. If you don’t want to bother with the settings, then there is a proven clumsy method, which is not the easiest in this case - to restart the computer. When you restart the computer, the volume control will reappear and you can work with it.

If you don’t want to overload your computer, then right-click on the lower horizontal panel (tray) between the clock and the Internet access icon.

In the window that appears, click Properties.

The system icons window appears.

Opposite the Volume icon we see a volume on and off button. Click on it to turn up the Volume.

Now we should have a mixer on the tray. Also here you can enable the display of the clock, laptop battery power, and network operation.

If you need speaker and microphone settings, then this is also easy. Go to Start/Control Panel/Sound/Sounds. This is for the Windows 7 operating system.

This is how easy it is to do it. Often, because of such little things, we begin to get angry and nervous.

Look at the funny photo and smile.

I don’t know where this was made, but I observed something similar at the Prague Zoo. It was funny.

This is the photo.

I should write a post about curiosity.)))

P.S. I am attaching a screenshot of my earnings in affiliate programs. And I remind you that anyone can do this, even a beginner! The main thing is to do it correctly, which means learning from those who are already making money, that is, from Internet business professionals.

The sound icon has disappeared. One fine moment, I suddenly discovered that the sound icon on my computer had disappeared from the tray. I wouldn't have noticed this if I didn't need to turn up the volume on my headphones. My household decided to turn on the TV, and at almost full volume. Naturally, I hear almost nothing in my headphones. This is where the “loss” was discovered. If you have the same problem with sound, then let's try together to return our volume control to its place in the tray.

If the sound icon has disappeared from the Quick Launch panel

  • Go to the menu Start - Settings - Control Panel .

  • In the Control Panel we find the iconSounds and audio devices .

  • Double-click on it with the mouse.
  • In the window that opens Properties: Sounds and Audio Devices go to the tab Volume .
  • In the field Mixer volume check the entry box Show icon on taskbar.

  • Save your changes by clicking the button Apply And OK .

Now our sound icon is back in its place. But that's half the trouble. It’s worse when the sound disappears altogether, and not its icon.

By the way, this problem does not arise very rarely. I once spent almost the whole day looking for the reason. I did everything I could, but there was still no sound.

The most annoying thing is that the sound disappeared for no reason. No one sat down at my computer, and I didn’t change anything, neither in the settings nor in the hardware.

But in my case, the problem was that I have a cat who is simply not indifferent to wires. And he bit them so skillfully that I didn’t even notice it.

If you have such a rodent in the house, then start checking with the wires.

Video The sound icon is missing, what to do:

It happens that the sound icon on the taskbar disappears. Let's figure out what to do with it and how to get it back.

  1. If the sound itself disappears along with the sound icon, then you need to reinstall the sound drivers.
  2. If the icon disappears, but there is sound, then there are several ways to solve this problem.

Control Panel

1. Open the control panel.

2. Select “Design and Personalization”.

3. In the “Taskbar and Navigation” section, select “Customize taskbar icons”.

4. Next to the “Volume” icon, set “Show icon and notifications”.

5. All that remains is to restart the computer and the missing icon will appear on the taskbar.

Local Group Policy Editor

1. To launch Group Policy, click on the Start button and enter gpedit.msc.

2. The editor will open. In it you need to click on “User Configuration” - “Administrative Templates” - “Start Menu and Taskbar” - “Hide the Volume Control Icon”.

3. In the window that opens, mark the “Disable” dot and click “Ok”.

Disable hiding the volume control icon

4. Reboot the computer.

If you have the operating system Windows XP and Windows Vista, you can restore the sound icon by right-clicking on the taskbar and selecting “Properties” - “Customize”. Double-click on the sound icon with the left mouse button and click “OK.” After this, the icon should appear on your computer in the taskbar.

Troubles with sound on a computer do not happen very often, but almost every user has encountered them at least once in their life. For example, the sound on my computer disappeared several times - it just disappeared and that’s it. Fortunately, the problem was “cured” by installing drivers. There are other situations related to sound. For example, the volume icon located in the tray (on the bottom panel) may disappear. Everything would be fine, since the sound does not disappear anywhere, but it’s just impossible to adjust it without using the control panel.

It is difficult to say what is causing this situation. Perhaps this is some kind of glitch in the operating system, or perhaps the work of a malicious file or malicious program. Be that as it may, returning the icon to the panel is quite simple, as you will now see.

How to restore the volume icon?

The very first and easiest way, considering that we are talking about a banal glitch, is to restart the computer. I am sure that in the vast majority of cases this method will help you cope with the problem. In general, we just restart the computer or laptop and look at the result.

In order not to restart the computer, you can restart just the explorer. To do this, launch the task manager (for Windows 7, press the key combination CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) and in the “Processes” tab, end the explorer.exe process yourself.

If Explorer does not automatically load within a minute, in the task manager, click “File” - “New task (Run...)”, write the word explorer and click OK, thereby launching Explorer.

If the previous option did not help you, do not be upset, there is another solution to the issue. First of all, you need to move the mouse cursor over the bottom panel (tray) and click on the right button, after which a menu will appear. In it, select “Properties”.

The “Taskbar and Start Menu Properties” window will open, where right on the main tab, click on the “Customize” button.

This will open the notification area icon settings. Just below you will see the link “Turn system icons on or off” highlighted in blue - click on it.

Finally, you will see the system icons and can turn them on or off yourself. Pay attention to the "Volume" icon. It's probably turned off and you need to manually turn it on. After this, do not forget to click OK to save the changes.

After this procedure, the sound icon will return to the tray. If the previous option did not help you, try using the Fix It program from Microsoft, which allows you to solve problems associated with almost any problems that occur in the system. I won’t lie, I haven’t used the program, and therefore I won’t recommend it. But if you believe the reviews, then even if it helps, it is not always. In addition, the above methods should be more than enough to solve the problem.

The volume icon in the tray has disappeared - restart Explorer

If the volume icon disappears, then it’s enough to know how to restart (reboot) the explorer. Let's look at the cases in which this can happen and at the same time describe the solution to each case.

  • The most common reason is the checkbox in the taskbar - Hide unused icons.

Solution for Windows XP: Start - Settings - Control Panel - Sound and Multimedia - Checkmark - Show indicator on the taskbar.

Solution for windows 7,8,10: Start - Control Panel - All Control Panel Items - Notification Area Icon:

After these steps, you need to check whether the system sound icon is turned on, to do this, right-click in the tray area (in an empty space) and click properties, a window appears where we check whether the system sound icon is turned on:

  • This situation may arise if you previously installed an alternative volume control (for example, Volume2), and then deleted it - to solve this situation, you need to go to the system settings of this program and check the box - Display standard volume icon.
  • In fact, no one can answer correctly the specific reason why the volume icon in the tray disappeared, but it is known that in Windows 7 the problem with the desktop and Explorer occurs more often, apparently this is a Windows “bug” (various types of freezes).

The most common way to solve our issue is to restart Explorer (this method will also help when a blue screen appears, that is, when the entire desktop disappears), I will offer a choice of two methods:

1. method: Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc, the Task Manager will appear, in the Processes tab we find the process: explorer.exe, right-click on it and in the dialog box that appears, click End process.

Don't be alarmed - the taskbar with all the icons will disappear.

Now we need to start this process again, to do this, click - File - New task:

In the window that appears, type the command: explorer.exe

Method 2: simpler and will help if there is no blue screen (when we see the desktop), by running the bat file (this file is created in a regular notepad), which will restart Explorer and return all icons to their places, including number and in the tray.

Download link:

For those who still doubt the functionality of the bat file - Restart Explorer, first I suggest watching the video (pay attention to the restart of the desktop in the video when starting the bat file):

Now you have the knowledge of system administrators and the question of where the volume icon went will not cause any difficulties.

Sincerely, Nikitin Vladislav.

Volume icon disappeared from Windows 7 tray

You are familiar with this situation: you turn on the computer, your favorite Windows operating system starts, and you see that there is no volume control. The sound itself is there, but you cannot adjust it, since the volume icon is not displayed.

In fact, this is normal for Windows OS, and the next time you boot, the volume icon should be in its place. But you definitely shouldn’t restart your computer because of such a trifle!

P.S. By the fact that such a situation is the norm for Windows, we mean that this happens quite often, and not that this fact is normal.

In most cases, the following steps help

1) Check if the volume display is turned on.

For unknown reasons, this setting sometimes gets lost and the volume display turns off.

a) Right-click in an empty space in the tray area (next to the clock and language bar), and go to properties.

b) Or open the Control Panel, go to the “Notification Area Icons” section (icon mode), and click on the “Turn system icons on or off” link.

Make sure the volume is turned up. If the volume is “Off”, turn it on by setting it to “On” and press Ok.

2) Restart Windows Explorer.

You can restart Explorer immediately without completing the first step.

To restart Explorer, open the Task Manager (“ctrl + shift + Esc”), go to the “Processes” tab, find and end the “explorer.exe” process. Next, click “File\new task (run...)”, write explorer and click Ok.

For the convenience of restarting Windows Explorer, you can create a special file; for information on how to create such a file, read the article Restarting Windows Explorer.

After the above steps, the volume icon should return to its place.

The volume icon has disappeared from the taskbar

Windows 7 users often encounter a problem where the volume icon on the taskbar disappears. What to do in this case and how to fix the problem?

How to return the volume icon in windows 7?

On the taskbar, click on the arrow to gain access to all active applications on the system and select “Customize”.

Look for the “volume” icon and select “Show icon and notification”.

If the volume icon was not in the list, click “Turn system icons on or off.”

Turn on the volume and save the result.

Now look again in the list to see if there is a sign about displaying the volume icon on the taskbar.

If this method does not help, then you need to restart the explorer. To do this, click Ctrl+Alt+Del and launch the task manager. Go to the “Processes” tab.

Now click end explorer.exe process.

After the explorer is closed, click “File” and select “New task (Run)”.

Enter “explorer.exe” and click “OK”. The volume icon should appear.

Therefore, if you have lost the volume icon on the taskbar and you do not know how to get it back, then these steps should help solve this problem.

The volume icon has disappeared

Why does the volume icon disappear on the taskbar in windows 7, you ask?

I can’t give a specific answer, because firstly, I’m not a professional, and secondly, I think there can be quite a lot of reasons, from operating system malfunctions and virus infections to conflicts between drivers and software.

But today’s article will not talk about the reasons for the disappearance of the volume control from the Taskbar, but about ways to return it to its place, because somehow you need to adjust the volume when listening to music or watching movies through headphones :)!

After all, many users are accustomed to controlling the volume level through this control.

Today I will introduce you to several ways to solve this problem, at least one of which should help.

1ST METHOD - RESET THE CONDUCTOR

We repeat all the steps from the instructions “Disappearing Desktop in Windows 7” and if it doesn’t help, move on to the second method.

2ND METHOD - CUSTOMIZING ICONS AND NOTIFICATIONS

Click on the arrow next to the notification area on the Taskbar and, if there is no volume control on the panel, click the “Customize…” link in the window

We check whether the behavior “Show icon and notifications” is selected opposite the volume icon and if it is selected, but the icon does not appear, then click on the link “Turn on or off system icons”

Turn the switch to the “On” position opposite the “Volume” system icon and click on the “OK” button

If this did not lead us to the desired result, then we move on to the third option.

3rd METHOD - LOCAL GROUP POLICY EDITOR

In the search field of the Start button menu, look for “gpedit.msc” and run it

Go to “User Configuration” - “Administrative Templates” - “Start Menu and Taskbar” and run “Hide Volume Control Icon”

Put a checkmark on “Disable”, then “Apply” and “OK”

Reboot the computer and if that doesn’t help, go to the fourth method

4TH METHOD - EDITING THE REGISTRY

In the search field of the Start button menu, look for “regedit.exe” and run it

Go to the path “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\LocalSettings\Software\Microsoft\windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify”

and delete the registry entries: “IconStreams” and “PastIconsStream”

Today we will talk about the volume icon, or rather about a problem that any user may have - the volume icon may disappear from the taskbar. Errors happen in almost every program or operating system, so I will try to help you fix this problem.

Use the volume icon to increase or decrease the volume of your speakers, microphone, system sounds; find out which playback devices are currently enabled; test the performance of the sound card. But most often, users use this icon to adjust the volume of the sound, so it is very important.

Let's look at four ways to solve this problem, and at least one of them will get rid of the problem with the missing volume icon from the taskbar

First way

If you have not lost the volume icon from the taskbar, then try looking for it in hidden icons. Just open the hidden icons view - you may have accidentally moved it there.

Second way

This method will be the most commonplace - restart your computer. There may be some kind of glitch in the operating system, and a simple reboot can fix it. If the problem is not solved, then the following method will certainly help.

Third way

This opens Control Panel and an area for you to select the icons and notifications that appear or can appear on your taskbar. At the bottom of this window we find the command “ Enable or disable system icons" and click on it.

Now you will see a list of system icons that can be displayed on the taskbar: , network, power (if you have a laptop or netbook), support center and. It is the last icon that we need to return back.

As you can see in the image above, opposite the volume, the behavior is set to “Off”. Accordingly, we need to change it to “On”.

After that, click “OK” and the window with these settings can be closed, and the sound icon should appear on your taskbar.

Fourth method

I decided to write this method, because something might happen that all the previous ones will not help. It consists of resetting icon settings. Go back to the icons and notifications settings and now instead of the “Turn system icons on or off” command, click on “Restore default icon behavior”.

But to be honest, this last method is the least helpful for this problem.

By the way, all of the above methods are equally effective for both the Windows XP and Windows 7 operating systems.
