St. Petersburg company SPB Software releases a launcher for any model! It was a small revolution, but it remained unnoticed - the CPCs were too unpopular. It was then that I first became acquainted with this program. And in 2012, after many years with different communicators, I purchased my first tablet and, at the same time, on on an ongoing basis The hero of the review also moved in with me.
In 2011, Yandex bought SPB Software. The market was already dominated by a completely different OS with a green robot and candy names for its versions. And the program has undergone a number of significant changes, it has been ported, and has become more ergonomic and organic. But it had one drawback - it was paid. It would seem like a small thing - 100 rubles, but you couldn’t call it a fly in the ointment - more like a scoop, so big, huge. And Yandex did what the manufacturer should have done long ago - made it free. But the boom didn't happen. But in my humble opinion, he should have. And I will try to tell you why exactly.
Purpose
The Yandex.Shell application is designed to replace the stock desktop with a “new generation” user interface.
I don’t know what was in the “old generation”, and in general, generations among launchers are a discovery for me, but I know for sure that such a meager description does not give any idea about the program. Yandex.Shell is actually a combine designed to combine into one organic, convenient and functional interface basic functions of a smartphone. It allows the user to place the most important information for him in a convenient form and receive current news on topics of interest.

The application actually consists of a launcher, a phone book with a contact editor, a calculator widget, notes, a news aggregator, a TV program schedule, a block quick control enabling/disabling functions and other various little things.
At the same time, the size of the application is more than modest - 26 MB, but in memory, during operation, it can reach up to 70 MB.
So, the launcher (desktop shell). This component is the base, a kind of foundation, for all other functions. Represents an almost unlimited set of desktops. The only limitation is a minimum of three. Well, that's how I wanted it. Shortcuts to any applications, widgets, contact shortcuts, indicators, widgets and panels from Yandex can be located on desktops. Any widget can be forced to size modified by stretching borders - in 2 seconds you will turn a 2 by 2 widget into a full screen one. Or vice versa. Moreover, most modern applications can shrink or expand the displayed information and you only need to select the size you need.
Dockbar represents fixed panel of 5 labels on transparent background. Moreover, when the corresponding option is activated, all placed labels are automatically converted to monochrome. There is only one panel, there is no option to add several more.
Shortcuts can be placed in folders on the desktop. Moreover, the folder looks either like a folder or like a widget.
You can do the same with applications in the menu. There is also a Hidden folder, which is visible only in edit mode.
Install a program that hides and encrypts photos, and so that no one guesses, hide its label in Hidden. Paranoia.
There are no transition effects between tables. It depends on you, but I like it - access speeds up by a fraction of a second, but this is exactly the time during which I have time to start getting nervous... But there is unique phenomenon- carousel.
A pinch on the desktop switches the launcher into a quick and effective switching mode; here you can visually select new panels and add desktops.
When loading the desktop at any time, I did not notice any lags in transitions, including on a rather weak phone - Prestigio 3540.

They can be roughly divided into categories:
Informational - everything is clear here, updated cinema posters, by tapping on a film we get its description and the schedule of all cinemas in your city with information about them. You can immediately call and order a ticket or go to the website.
News is a Yandex news collector window for the channels you have chosen.
Personal. Birthdays are amazing!
If in in the usual form- this is just a recording with a photo, then when expanded we get a simply amazing picture. At least I like it. Information is pulled from the phone book automatically.
Useful: Weather. You probably went to the Yandex website with questions about the weather, and saw the weather from Yandex - everything is the same here. You receive a short weather forecast for any city for 5 days.
When you tap on the widget, you go to advanced mode with full information. Made conveniently and simply.
The calendar is just a date and a list for today, nothing extra: “Yeah, today is the third, make a report. Soooo, we’ll move it to the 4th, no, to the 7th.” Well, something like that.
Call log - last incoming/outgoing call. I can no longer imagine using a phone without this. No joke. Very often there are situations when you “rejected” a call - it immediately appears on the widget, and calling it is just a tap!
Either you missed the call, or you are calling back - I have not found any analogues. The widget is very simple, but harmonious and convenient, without unnecessary tricks and bells and whistles.
Messages - last message. Or, in expanded form, chaos of all messages, ordered like atoms after the Big Bang... I don’t use it, I don’t recommend it, I don’t like it...
Quick function switches - here they are called "Indicators" for short. Why is this and what do they indicate? No idea.
But they are convenient - either a separate switch or a block of them with a plug-in search field can be installed.
Almost any switches can be selected using a long tap. The usefulness of the function is doubtful for me - starting from Android 4.1, all switches are in the “curtain”, but if anyone uses it, the widget is implemented competently and conveniently. Like. If only “Messages” were the same.
Favorite contacts - a regular folder with favorite contacts. Don't want to get into phone book- Your right. Open the folder - call mom.
Useless.
Photo of the day - well, why do I need to see my gallery in a 1 by 4 widget? Photos are small, practical value tends to zero. Absolute. -273.15 Celsius. Although, maybe I’m just never an esthete.
Moon phases. Now, unlike me, my wife believes that the usefulness of this widget has no analogues! Well, you need to cut your hair for the growing one, prepare soup for the waning one, and plant gladioli only on the 23rd lunar day, when the Sun is in the constellation Aries from the side of Cassiopeia. For me, this is a widget for gardeners and ritual dances. But again, he is beautiful! Very! More precisely, not the widget itself, but what comes out after you point your finger at it.
World time - selected cities. Basically, there was a period in my life when, being in the second zone, I communicated with the 8th and 4th. Convenient, but everyday life I personally don't need it. Although the widget is convenient: city - time.
Yandex panels
Panels are the same as widgets, only on the entire screen.
Unlike widgets, they are all beautiful. Briefly about each (only so that you can imagine the functionality of the program).
Weather. Beautiful, animated and informative. Changes in times of day and snowflakes, wind direction and strength, humidity and pressure (and, just as important, whether the needle rises or falls), forecast for morning, lunch, evening, night for four days. Smart guys Yandex...
Calendar. Monthly calendar with big date Today and events for the week. Probably useful.
Photos. Best photos from Yandex.Photos or Flickr. The photo can be downloaded and used as wallpaper. That's all. No, I'm definitely not an esthete.
Time. An alarm clock that displays the lunar day and moon phase.
The main charm is that the clock can be chosen from 50 options (although all are analog, but all are very well drawn).

The calculator is simply a calculator with large, easy-to-use buttons. Here it is right on your desktop.
News, Poster, Program - I will describe everything in one. They work, are updated, everything is convenient, with pictures. When you tap, automatically go to the Network to view detailed information.
Notes. This has been my main notes app for a long time.
Elementary addition directly from the desktop without going to any program, choice of color for notes, any number of category screens, the possibility of any arrangement of stickers (including overlapping) - what else is needed? Nothing for me. I almost forgot - there is a backup.

Quick navigation across desktops is carried out using the slider located in the center of the bottom of the screen. At the same time, a three-dimensional carousel appears, which allows you to quickly switch between available desktops. You can edit, delete and add desktops.
In order to invoke the mode of adding or removing desktops, you need to click on the central button located at the bottom of the screen, and then click on the lower right button.
