Settings in mozilla. Tweaking the Mozilla Firefox browser to improve performance

Mozilla Firefox is one of the most popular browsers in the world. A fifth of Internet users around the world choose this program to use as a browser. The browser was created in 2004 and short terms won a large number of fans. The developers of this program try to protect Internet users as much as possible by adding hundreds and thousands of add-ons that help with work and just entertainment.

IN top line you will find Zoom and a pop-up menu next to it. Open it and select the page width. Everything should be fine now. Incorrect printing is caused by scale inconsistency, which can be changed to, for example, 150%, causing the content to be enlarged and its standard page will be blocked. So, if an unwanted printed text format is affecting you, make sure you have a suitable one set value scales. Why, however, shouldn't some fancy fad hurt your browser, especially when it's free?

The main features of the browser are:

    Browser stability and security.

Ability to install add-ons that are easy to use huge amount.

The ability to download files, while pausing and resuming the download.

Checking for updates, both the browser itself and its add-ons, which is very convenient; you don’t have to worry about the relevance of the version.

Changing the color and design means only the top menus, panels and bottom panel in the form background image. Moreover, before choosing any scheme, you can review it first preview V live. Automatic web page updates.

Here we can help you with additional options browser. The advantage of the application is its ability to individually refresh each panel at different intervals, allowing you to have complete control over all pages viewed. However, you should be careful when writing letters, blogs or posts on discussion forums.

The built-in JavaScript editor, with testing capabilities, is useful for web editors and programmers.

Integration with many popular antivirus programs.

A huge plus of the job of this browser is its stability.

Mozilla Firefox has a lot more useful features, in which it differs from other browsers, if you still decide to use this program in your work, then it will become an indispensable assistant for you.

Removing unnecessary frills through about:config

An unexpected page refresh can easily set you up for work. Fortunately, we know exactly where the error occurred. This subscription list or summary of online information sources is part of a sidebar that is connected to provide more reading space if needed on the screen. The problem is that the navigation control button is located next to the slider, making it easy to press. In fact, you wouldn't even notice this button because it's almost invisible until you place your mouse pointer over it.

Browser installation

So, we weighed all the pros and cons of the Firefox robot and decided to use it as our main browser. In order to install this program You need to download it first. Let’s go to the website http://www.mozilla.org and in the window that opens, click the “Download for free” button.

Let's save the installation file and run it on our computer.

Clicking on it removes the navigation bar with just a navigation button that allows you to temporarily view your subscriptions. If you want the navigation bar to return, simply move your cursor to horizontal line, completely hidden in the left edge of the screen, and click on it. A navigation bar will appear.

Here brief description and a possible solution. It may be included by registers for such purposes. This change will only take effect after a restart. Additional security enhancements have been provided by enhanced protection for authentication. If this is a problem, you can disable it.

In the window that opens, we will be greeted by the installation wizard, click “Next”.

The next window will ask us to select the installation type, select “Typical” and click “Next”.

After selecting the installation type, we will be shown the browser installation path and asked to make the browser the main one; to do this, check the box next to “Use Firefox as my default web browser.”

We will open the address in your web browser. If not, it refuses to negotiate and is already on the web server, or rather the application as it persists. This service ticket will be sent in response to the web server. This method can be disabled in settings, but is enabled by default.

It is recommended to set the settings for the user. There is one line for each address, enter the address in the name and enter the number of the zone in which we want to enter the address. You can also find information about where the zones are located in the register. We can also enable intranet sites in the same location: Enable all sites that bypass the proxy, Intranet sites. Enable all network paths and intranet sites. Include all local sites not listed in other zones.

Having fulfilled all the requirements, click the “Update” button and wait for the installation to complete.

Browser settings

Having installed the browser, launch it and move on to configuration. To do this, go to the “Tools” tab in the browser menu, and select “Settings” from the drop-down menu.

The feature is usually enabled, but you need to configure the addresses for which it is used. After confirming that configuration changes can be dangerous, we see individual parameters configurations. Enter the variable we want to change into the filter.

Now we enter text string. More commas can be separated by a comma. There are many of them, user configurations are located under the user profile. Click right click mouse on the desktop and select “New - File”. We choose a method that is sufficient to create. Specify the source path for the shared file and the destination.

The menu that launches will allow you to configure all components of the browser to make working with it as convenient as possible. Let's look at all the tabs in detail and make the settings we need.

Basic Tab

This tab will allow you to change the browser’s “Home Page”, as well as configure the launch of the initial page. On the same tab we can change the location of browser downloads, while specifying to issue a save request.

This can be solved by using product level targeting. We still have the open file creation properties, go to the General tab. Here is the element level targeting, check and click on Targeting. Through new element enter the parameter we want to compare. In this case, the file is created here. This is very large group technologies and services. The default browser is launched whenever any application tries to display a web page. Open new tabs instead of new ones: This option controls the opening of links from other applications or web pages in a new tab or window. If the page author has defined the dimensions of the new window, because some pages may only display correctly when specified size windows. This option is available if you have previously disabled the warning about closing multiple tabs. Select them again to enable warnings to prevent you from accidentally closing the entire window, not just the selected tab. This option is available if you have previously turned off the warning that appears when you have too many tabs open at once. Select them again to enable warnings to prevent your system from accidentally slowing down when loading multiple pages. This allows you to significantly speed up the browser startup time when restoring large quantity kart. When you open a link in a new tab, navigate to it automatically: when you middle-click on a link, landing page will automatically open in a new tab. Check this box to set and load the page in a new, fully visible tab. Selecting this option will display a separate preview for each open tab. This frees up computer resources for other applications, allowing them to run faster. This field is checked by default, but this option is not available to everyone GPUs. Using multiple content processes allows you to further improve productivity and reduce the impact of process failures. You can change this setting if the multiprocessing option is enabled. We recommend setting the maximum to 4, but you can change the value to 4.

"Tabs" tab

The menu of this bookmark allows you to perform operations with our browser tabs. You can do this by checking the boxes next to the items that you will need in the robot.

"Content" tab

As you might guess from the name of the bookmark, in this window we can configure the display of Internet pages in our browser. By checking the box next to “Block pop-ups”, we will get rid of annoying ads, but if we still need to open a pop-up page, we can easily add it to the exclusion list. In this window you can also set the fonts and colors of the pages displayed, as well as set your preferred display language.

The issue concerns the default application selection mechanism. We select this either at the installation stage or during the first launch. The system does not require any additional confirmation from us, so the mechanism is very simple, although it may lead to some abuse third party developers software Applications continue to display their message, but after selecting it, the system displays additional window, allowing us to choose the default application and tips that we are currently using.

For example, when the installation completes, the browser displays a message asking you to open a window immediately. After installation, the user will see a message telling him that he should go to system settings, and then change the selected application manually. To do this, launch the Start menu and select Settings for the new Control Panel. In it we go to the “System” category and then select the “Default Applications” section from the list on the left. Only in this place we can select programs that serve to check maps, play music, view photos and websites.

The menu of this tab allows you to configure the integration interaction different applications to the browser. Having selected an application, open the drop-down list and configure the action that this software product should perform.

When you click on current program other applications available on your computer are displayed. You have to admit that the settings are very unintuitive, because no Not experienced user who has a choice - there is no simple graphical representation about what is under the name selected in at the moment program hides a list of alternatives.

Interestingly, default programs can still be selected from the classic Control Panel. Here there is more control over the application, because we do not select a program for a specific application, but extensions supported by specific applications.

It is not yet known why the corporation still offers two completely different panels different functionality, but order is definitely not introduced. Both teams decided that their applications would automatically open new panel controls when the user wants to change the default program. So much is done, but the rest is left in the hands of the user. The developers believe that the solution is far from ideal, and they will work to improve it. The corporation, on the one hand, invites you to develop programs for your system, on the other hand, strongly prefers your applications and services.

Now, in times of the ubiquitous Internet, every computer owner can literally download any available browser in just a couple of clicks - a program for working with resources global network. Although everyone has a similar software product there is a whole army of fans; Firefox can be distinguished from the Mozilla community. Among others, this browser stands out for its lack of tracking modules (for which Chrome from Google is especially famous) and humane requirements for computing resources. To make working with the program convenient, Firefox must be configured. This will allow you to adjust the browser exactly to your requirements.

Two possibilities

Setting up Firefox can be done in two ways: regular means, accessible to each user, as well as by making direct changes to the configuration file. Although the second method (hidden Firefox settings) is more universal, as it allows you to get full control over configuring the program, beginners should use it with caution. Inadvertent changes may lead to reverse effect- slowdowns, crashes, etc. To start, you need to type about:config in the address bar. But setting up Firefox using standard tools is completely safe: it is impossible to seriously disrupt the operation of the program, and a relatively small number of points makes it easy to restore previous state browser.

Basic Firefox setup

We have already indicated that each user must customize the program for themselves, so there is no need to blindly follow the recommendations given. So, the setup begins by launching the application and clicking on the orange one (in Stable and Beta versions) Firefox button located in the upper left corner of the program window. Next in the list you need to find “Settings” and go to the tab of the same name. The “Launch” block allows you to specify the page that will be displayed when the browser is turned on. When installing the Speed Dial extension, the corresponding home page, will usually be inserted automatically. Don’t ignore the ability to specify a folder for downloading files: this will eliminate the need to search with Explorer every time the right path. For some users this may be the desktop, for others it may be special folder on disk. In the “Content” tab, you need to activate the blocking; this will save you when visiting some sites. Here, opposite “Font and colors”, you should click “Advanced” and set the encoding to Unicode (UTF-8).

The “Privacy” tab contains the ability to include a special combination of characters in the data packets sent by the browser, which informs the site being visited that the user does not want (or vice versa) a log file with his actions to be created. At the same time, Internet resources are not required to follow this requirement. By at least, Bye. But if you disable saving in the “History” block, then all information about the session (visited pages, data entered in forms and cookies) will be destroyed after closing the application. In fact this is an analogue private mode. Useful when working on someone else's computer. The items in the “Protection” tab are designed to protect the user’s safety on the Internet. You should not disable them (except for the “Master Password”, this is at your discretion). The "Advanced" tab makes it possible to make the browser the main one ("System - Default"). In the “View sites” block, all the checkboxes must be checked: this makes working with sites more convenient. The “Data Selection” item is intended to support developers: in case of failures, the data is transferred to the Firefox servers, where they are analyzed and measures are taken to eliminate errors in future versions. There are usually no special issues with the “Updates” tab: failure, manual and automatic modes. But in “Network - Settings” you can register ports and addresses when working through a proxy server (local or network).

Recovery

Sometimes you need to save Firefox settings. For example, when reinstalling the system. This is very easy to do using MozBackup. After launching, you need to select Firefox from the list, specify the backup mode and where to save the profile. When restoring, select restore.

Below is the best fine-grained configuration of settings using about:config for an experienced user Mozilla browser Firefox, which has been actively using this functional browser for several years. He tried various settings through about mozilla, but in the end I settled on the option described below.

The settings from the list about mozilla via config, which most users, including experienced ones, do not know about, are very important for the operation of the Firefox browser.

Seven minutes of time, and having completed simple settings Firefox standard (default) configuration, under my strict guidance, you can significantly increase the speed of web surfing. And that’s not all - fine sorting by importance, as well as others useful actions will make working in Mozilla more convenient not only for you, but also for the system as a whole. Am I interested in you?! Then read on about our new config to discover the most comfortable work for yourself!

To start working with parameters that cannot be adjusted through the regular settings panel, you need to open the address bar, type about:config and press the Enter key.

Next, a message will pop up stating that changing these settings (config) can worsen the performance of the browser and then the manufacturers will not bear any guarantee for the performance of their brainchild. Just, for God's sake, don't be scared! Click on the button below and then enter the function you are interested in through the search box browser.sessionhistory.max_total_viewers and follow further instructions.

RAM

Now the function we are considering affects the amount of RAM allocated for website pages. This setting affects whether, when returning “Back” to Firefox, you will have to wait for the page to load from the network again, or whether it will be loaded at lightning speed through your browser’s cache. At first glance, it may seem that it is clear that quickly navigating through previously visited web pages using the Forward-Back buttons is better and you need to set the appropriate value in the settings...

However, when high-speed Internet, which, fortunately, many already have, the transition will occur equally quickly, but the memory savings by disabling page caching will be very noticeable. To disable the function, double-click on the found setting and change standard value"-1" to "0". There is another method to change the value of a function through about:config - you need to right-click and click “Change” in the menu that opens.

Removing unnecessary frills through about:config

Note. The above settings have been tested on Firefox versions 41.0.

Conclusion

Adjustments to each of the 7 Firefox parameters were accompanied by a description of what this or that selected function affects, so you made all the settings or most of them consciously, and not unconsciously. But if something went wrong or you decide to return standard settings, then don't worry. To return your Firefox settings to normal, select Reset from the menu.

Hello, dear readers of the blog site. Today will be the third article about browsers. A little earlier, we already managed to talk about the advantages and disadvantages of a newcomer in the field of browser development - .

The share of these browsers in the RuNet market is quite large, but there is another representative of this galaxy, which is not inferior to them in popularity not only in RuNet, but also in the world. I'm talking about Mozilla Firefox.

In RuNet, the popularity of Mazila is comparable to the popularity of Opera, and approximately 30% of the total number of all Internet users access the network through this browser. But it is still popular in the world (about the same 30%), although it is inferior, and Google Chrome is already close to it, which over the several years of its existence has demonstrated an amazing increase in popularity.

Each of these browsers has its own features, and today we will try to look at everything that makes Firefox so popular and that can be useful for a webmaster when working on his website.

History of Mozilla Firefox and its features

Let's start, according to tradition, by saying - and it will always be completely free from here(big green “Download for free” button at the top right of the page). By the way, in 2008 this program set a record that was included in the Guinness Book of Records. In that memorable year new version was downloaded more than eight million times in the first 24 hours.

In general, Firefox traces its history back to the oldest graphical (non-text) browser on earth - Mosaic. The first versions of which were born back in 1994 and became something of a sensation. For the first time, Internet users were able to view graphic images on the web pages they open.

Then Mosaic was renamed to the well-known Netscape Navigator, and then its name was changed a little more and it became Netscape Communicator.

In 1998, Netscape was acquired by a large American IT corporation and further work over the browser and other software was created non-profit organization Mozilla, under the auspices of which it was planned to release and develop open source software standards source code(this term was previously used as the working name for Netscape Navigator).

The Mozilla Organization was financed mainly by the same company Netscape and already under the wing of this organization the first version of Firefox was released. Its engine was completely written from scratch and it was on its basis that subsequent versions of the Netscape browser (starting with the sixth) were released.

After some time, the roads of two Firefox browsers and Netscape went their separate ways (around 2003), leaving the latter to retire and the former to become one of the most popular Internet browsers in the world.

Firefox itself traces its history back to 2004 (although in 2002 it already existed, but was called Phoenix, and in 2003 it was renamed Firebird and only in 2004 it finally adopted its familiar name) and until recently its main competitor was IE, because the latter is built in by default into the most popular operating system of all times and peoples.

But in 2011, Mazila first felt serious competition from a newcomer called Google Chrome. And according to some data, the share of these browsers in the world is now approximately the same.

In general, the situation in the Internet browser market is now quite tense and competition is intensifying. This probably plays into our hands ordinary users, because it forces developers to look for more and more new features that increase convenience and attract attention specifically to their brainchild. However, all new products are very quickly implemented by competitors, so none of the developers can rest on their laurels.

By the way, I recently read that in order for Mozilla Firefox to use . as the default search, the company of the same name paid the developers a billion dollars. It is good, however, to be a non-profit organization, because the income is impressive.

Well, that’s understandable - Firefox’s share is still huge and Google, most likely, will not go wrong. Even our domestic ones search engines they are trying to create their own browsers based on Chromium in order to bind users to them. Vivid examples can serve .

Our hero, after all by and large, does not currently have any serious innovative or different features from other analogues. He has everything required set features, but nothing more. However, its popularity, in my opinion, lies not in the basic capabilities, but in what can be added to it with the help of extensions.

Not so long ago, Mazila Firefox was almost the only browser that supported the installation of full-fledged extensions. It was initially focused on this and that is why the developers decided not to overload the main core with all possible features. I decided to discuss this in a separate publication.

However, the ease of connecting and developing extensions for it also has reverse side- the interface itself works somewhat slower and consumes more computer resources than its closest competitors (Chrome also consumes resources, but it works very quickly and, most importantly, very reliably - each has its own process).

Mozilla's lately gives the impression of a certain monstrosity, especially against the backdrop of the fast and ascetic Chrome. However, it is still much more convenient to work with extensions in it, which, in my opinion, allows it to still remain among the leaders.

When changing the operating system or the entire computer, you can, of course, use the function of synchronizing your bookmarks, passwords and history using the tool described just above, and successfully restore everything on the new operating system. But God protects the best, so it wouldn’t hurt to do backup copy folders with your profile in Mozilla Firefox. You can open this profile folder in the following way.

From the top menu, select “Help” - “Information for solving problems” and click on the button opposite the “Profile folder” field:

If synchronization does not work out, you can always copy this folder to her rightful place and get exactly the same settings, saved passwords and bookmarks in Mazil that you had before the move.

As I already said, Opera is my browser for surfing and it is its features that I am especially accustomed to. It has such a thing as an express panel, which contains previews of the sites I most frequently visit. At first, I really missed the same feature in the “fire fox”, because it was not implemented in it by default.

For example, Opera and Chrome have a built-in ability to synchronize bookmarks and other personal data made in the browser with the server in order to then be able to access your browser bookmarks from any computer in the world. This opportunity certainly convenient and necessary (for example, when the operating system crashes).

But Mozilla Firefox did not provide such an option by default until the spring of 2011. However, this did not mean that she was not there. It is enough to install the extension and bookmark synchronization becomes possible in your favorite browser (if it is one for you).

Those. The idea put forward by the developer is very rational - everyone will be able to choose the add-ons they need and assemble their own set with only the functions they need. Another thing is that not everyone uses extensions (they still need to be found, installed and configured) and not everyone even knows about them. Therefore, this approach, in my opinion, has both positive and negative sides.

Also noteworthy is the increased rate of appearance of new versions of the fire fox last year. In the spring, the long-awaited Firefox 4.0 was released, which replaced version 3.6 released at the beginning of 2010. In total, more than a year passed between updates. Well, the latest current version of Firefox bears the proud number 23.0.1.

Either this is an attempt to follow the example of version numbering from the main competitor in the person of Google Chrome, or the developers really started to move, feeling that such a monster as Chrome with its innovations, speed and other little things was breathing in their backs.

There is also a mobile version, which can also be downloaded from the official website. Obviously, due to very close contacts between Google and the Mozilla Foundation, the mobile version is focused specifically on Android - the super popular mobile and tablet platform from the same Google.

Of course, Android rules, but not all mobile phones work on it. And the popularity of Opera Mobile or Mini, it seems to me, is a big hindrance mobile version Mazily become popular. Well, for me there is nothing on the iPad better than Google Chrome is almost a complete analogue of the desktop version, but very fast.

Good luck to you! See you soon on the pages of the blog site

The number of his fans in our country (and throughout the world) is more than 30 percent of the total Internet audience. Why is he so in demand? First of all, because until recently it was almost the only one that supported the installation of full extensions. There is, however, a small minus here. Due to the work of these same extensions and the ease of connecting them, it functions slightly slower than its closest competitors.

What features does the Mozilla Firefox browser have?

There are many of them, and one of them is the ability to save entered passwords. There is nothing new here, except that if you forget the password to a particular web page, you can always see it. To do this, you will need to go to the “Settings” section, the “Protection” tab, select “Passwords”, click on the “Saved Passwords” button and the “Display Passwords” button.

The next option is to open new tabs instead of new windows. In order to drag tabs, just grab them with the mouse. If you often type texts, add content to a website, or comment on posts, then “Spell Check” will be a useful feature for you. Those who like updates should open the “Add-ons” tab and the “Get add-ons” section, then click on “Show all”. What will you see as a result? Various wallpapers that will help you change appearance your browser, as well as add-ons that add various functions to the browser.

Mozilla Firefox browser settings

How to enter settings? Very simple - in top menu Open “Tools”, then select “Settings”.

If you want, for example, to specify the path for saving files, then in this case you will need to enter the settings and go to the “Basic” section, and then select the folder in which you want to save the files.

As you can see, I have created for this purpose separate folder called “DOWNLOADED” on drive D, which is very convenient. I placed a shortcut to this folder on the desktop, so you can always quickly find the downloaded file without any problems.

If you want to clear your history (cache, cookies, browsing history), open “Settings”, “Advanced” section. Next - the “Network” tab, the “Cached Web Content” section, then “Clear Now”.

You can also clear your recent history, including the history of visits, downloads, searches, form data, cookies, website settings, by selecting the “Privacy” tab in the settings and at the bottom “Delete your recent history.” In the drop-down menu, select what exactly you want to delete.

By the way, I wrote about how to hide the IP address using the Mozilla browser settings in .

In general, the process of setting up the Mozilla Firefox browser is the same as for any other browser. To save the changes you will need to click on the OK button. You can find the main options in Settings. For example, again on the “Basic” tab, you can set what will open when you launch the “red fox” - a home page or another web page.

The “Customize” key is necessary to install the desired extensions in . You can not only configure, but also delete and disable them.

By going to “Content”, you can experiment with the color and font of pages, and change the language.

If you care about the security of your computer, then be sure to visit the “Protection” tab and set warnings and blocks about visiting malicious sites. Saved passwords, as mentioned above, can be found here.

If you want to synchronize, then go to the “Synchronization” tab of the same name. All your home settings will be available to you when you log in through your own mailbox, but on someone else's PC.

The ones listed above are not all the features and settings that the Mozilla Firefox browser has. I suggest you familiarize yourself with them - as the process is quite interesting. Read also the article about the new operating system for mobile devices (smartphones and tablets).

Mozilla Firefox is one of the popular browsers today. Takes second or third place (depending on who compiled the rating 🙂). However, it doesn't matter. The important thing is that the “fiery fox” has a whole series advantages, and one of them is fine tuning.

Thanks to this, you can easily customize the browser for yourself: install beautiful theme and extensions, add necessary buttons. Moreover, the setup is completed in literally 5 minutes. To make this task easier for you, let's look at how to configure Mozilla Firefox and make it more convenient.

When you launch the browser, it will look like this:

The first thing that catches your eye is the absence of a bookmarks bar under the address bar (as in Chrome, for example). It's there, but it's hidden by default. To display it:

The second nuance that you may have noticed is that the “Journal” button is located in the menu. If you click it, a small window will appear on the right with a list of previously visited sites. In order not to go into the menu every time, you can move the “Journal” icon to the main panel. To do this, click LMB on the icon and move it, for example, here:

Now, to view a list of previously visited sites, just click on this icon. This is very helpful when you accidentally closed the desired tab– it can be restored in literally 2 clicks.

By the way, the house icon ( home page) can be moved to the left - to where it should be.

Customizing the browser for yourself

The appearance of Firefox has been slightly customized, now let's look at the main parameters of the browser. To do this, open the menu again and go to “Settings”.

  1. Click the Set as Default button to make Mozilla your primary browser.
  2. In the "At startup" line, select last point“Show windows last opened.” This is necessary so that after closing the browser, it will remember your tabs and load them again when you launch it again.
  3. In the "Downloads" field, it is recommended to select "Always prompt me to save files." As a result, when downloading files, the browser will ask each time where to save them.
  4. In the “Tabs” field, check the “Open new tabs instead of new windows” checkbox.

When entering a request in address bar The selected search engine will automatically open - Yandex or Google.

Installing extensions

The next step is to install new extensions. The Mozilla browser is known for supporting a huge number of add-ons, and it would be stupid not to use them. To install them, open the menu and go to “Add-ons”.

Scroll down the page and click on the "View more add-ons" button.

Will open new tab, where you can install what you need - for example:

  • Visual bookmarks from Yandex;
  • Easy Screenshot (for quick creation screenshots);
  • Gmail Notifier (for notification of new letters received by e-mail).

In general, the choice here is huge, so you can easily customize Mozilla Firefox for yourself.

Data synchronization

And the last thing it is advisable to do is start personal account and link your data (i.e. set up data synchronization). As a result, you will be able to access all bookmarks, passwords, add-ons on any PC, laptop or smartphone. To do this, you just need to log into your account.
