Methods for determining a laptop model. Finding out the laptop model: ten available ways

This short note will be devoted to an interesting situation when you do not know how to find out your laptop model. I think that more advanced laptop users usually remember this data, although I can say for sure that some forget this information and, by the way, I am no exception. And if you are still a beginner, then this article is for you.

To find out what model your laptop is, just look at the front of the laptop, which is located just above the keyboard and at the top or bottom of the display. In the screenshots below you can clearly see where you can see this data using the example of Dell and Lenovo laptops:

It is very rare, but you can still find it when the model is written on the right side at the very bottom of the laptop, for example, like on eMachines and Acer laptops.

If the model is not written on the front of the laptop, then turn the laptop upside down and do a detailed inspection of it from below. There are usually several stickers stuck there, including the one with the name. The model can be written in different ways:

  • Using the word MODEL, and then the number itself.
  • Using the abbreviation MB, and then the number itself.
  • Simple writing of the number, without auxiliary words.

For example, below I showed 2 laptops: Samsung and Fujitsu.

However, what is written here is not always entirely correct, I mean that the model is not fully described. To make sure, we type in the manufacturer’s brand and the model itself into Google and check. There you can find the most reliable information.

Battery

Sometimes laptop manufacturers may hide this data a little deeper, such as on or under the battery.

Information for those who have not removed the battery. Turn the laptop over and find the latches that hold the battery. Usually there are 2 of them, but there are exceptions when there is only one. Then move them apart and the battery will rise on its own.

Now you can check for the data you need. Most often you can find it on the battery itself, but also look under it (on the laptop).

Let's try to find out the model using standard Windows tools

Now let's consider the option of how to find out the laptop model through the command line. Go to the “Start” menu, type cmd in the search bar or use the hot keys “Win” + “R”, type cmd and press “Enter”. A window should have appeared with white English inscriptions on a black background. We write the following line here: wmic csproduct get name and press Enter again. The model you are using will appear on the screen, for example “Asus X52J”.

As an option I can also suggest one more thing. Go to the “Start” menu - “Control Panel” (look at the upper right corner of the window, at the “View” item, set the value to “Small icons” there - select “System”). Here everything will be described in detail: the model, the manufacturer, and everything in general, but not everyone will have this information displayed. You can open this window using an alternative method: “Start”, “Computer”, but on the last item we click not with the left mouse button, but with the right one. Select “Properties” from the drop-down list.

HP Notebook:

BIOS

Now let's talk about how to find out the laptop model directly when you start it. You probably already guessed that we are now interested in the BIOS. We go into it, look for the tab responsible for displaying this information, look, remember, done!

Everest

Of course, I can't mention the additional software, for example I really like Everest. The utility displays the most detailed characteristics of all components of your computer, including, of course, the laptop model. How can I watch it? After starting the program, select “Computer” on the left side of the window and go to “Summary Information”.

In the “Motherboard” section there is an item of the same name opposite which will say what you were looking for.

In this article, I have not considered all the methods on how to find out the model of a laptop, however, I think that the above methods are enough for everyone. Thank you all for your attention, come again ;).

Many users are faced with the need to determine the exact characteristics of the hardware on their own laptops. This raises the question: “How to determine the laptop model?” The situation is relevant in the following cases:

  • installing drivers - for new programs, viewing advanced sites with complex graphics, updating games;
  • earnings - the Rublik program works when the laptop is turned on, bringing income to the owner, however, you need to know the characteristics of the video card;
  • repair – service workers call customers asking for clarification of information when the information is not specified (incorrect), wasting time.

Most manufacturers of computer equipment practice their own product lines, and within each of them there is a division into series. Within each series, as a rule, there are several modifications. Thus, the “filling” of laptops of different models differs in configuration, the series already differ in appearance, the lines have fundamental differences in purpose.

Determining the model by manufacturer

Acer produces several products under different brands (Packard Bell, eMachines). The brand and all information are located above the barcode of the label, the catalog number is located below the barcode. In Toshiba laptops, repair services are interested in the top two positions (model, catalog number, respectively). On Dell laptops, the serial number is traditionally located under the barcode; if there is a second model label, its number is indicated separately on it.

Software method

I recommend this method to all owners who need to know how to determine the exact laptop model for service/repair organizations. The exact characteristics of the hardware will also help you avoid making mistakes with drivers. The CPU-Z program is deservedly considered the most popular, allowing you to find out information by section:

  • video card - volume, technical process, name, type, chip frequency
  • RAM – number of channels, frequency, volume, type
  • motherboard – interface, Bios version, chipset, model, manufacturer
  • processor - detailed information

The program is free, supported by hot keys, works under Windows and Android. The Everest program not only displays similar information, but also tests any laptop systems, evaluates speed, performance, and helps configure the laptop in detail.

The simplest way to obtain information is the utility built into the Windows OS. To do this, you need to perform the following sequence of actions:

  • go to “Start”, we are interested in the bottom line with a blinking cursor
  • enter cmd, press Enter
  • in the new window enter wmic csproduct get name, confirm with Enter

The information is displayed in the same window and has the appearance shown in the photo.

These are the main ways to determine a laptop model; the choice of a specific option depends on the individual needs of the user. They are all simple, take 5–10 minutes, and eliminate mistakes.

Many users, no matter how long they have had their computer in use, are unable to name the exact name of its model. And, in principle, they can easily do without it. However, there are situations when you need to indicate the exact name of your device. For example, when manually downloading drivers from the manufacturer’s website, where each specific model has its own set. Or when contacting technical support.

This article will discuss how to find out the model name of an Asus laptop. Despite this, all of the methods described below are suitable for computers from other manufacturers. Whatever brand your device is, there is a lot of information associated with it that is easy to get confused: motherboard model, unique ID, and so on. Everything is far from so simple, so this article can help everyone, even self-confident users.

Asus, not including it

There are two common methods:

  1. You can find out the laptop model from the package of papers supplied with the device. It includes an instruction manual, as well as a receipt document from the store. However, it happens that the manual only indicates the model range (the name of the laptop series), and not the number of a specific device.
  2. How to find out what model of Asus laptop? In case the model range is not enough for you, you can always refer to the special factory sticker, which is usually located on the bottom of the laptop and on the box. It contains the following data: laptop and motherboard model, barcode and serial number. See the name of the device after the word MODEL. Please note that the third, fourth and fifth characters from the name are not taken into account.

How to find out the Asus laptop model from the operating system?

It’s okay if the packaging documentation is lost or the label is damaged in some way. All information can be easily obtained directly from the operating system. To do this, we will tell you how to find out the Asus laptop model through the command line. To do this, open the parameter entry line. You can open it via START/Run. Or in Windows 10, type “Run” in the search, which is located at the bottom (you can also hold down R). Then type cmd - this will open the command prompt. In it, enter the command wmic csproduct get name, then press the Enter key. The next line will display a message with the name of your device.

It is not necessary to use the command bar. There is another way to find out the device model: open “Run” and insert the dxdiag command in the input line. The Diagnostic Tool window appears. It will open immediately on the tab you need - “System”. Your laptop model will be listed in the “Computer Model” section.

You can find out comprehensive information on the laptop, including the name of the device model, by following the following path: START/Control Panel/System and Security/System. Or right-click on the “My Computer” icon and select “Properties”. In the tenth version of Windows, again, you can use the search. To do this, simply enter in the line: “System”.

How to find out the model name using third-party programs

In addition to finding out the Asus laptop model, you can get a lot of useful information about your computer by using third-party programs. For example, using To do this, open the folder with the program and run the file with the extension .exe. There may be two of them at once, but any one will do. In the program window that opens, follow the following path: Menu/Computer/DMI/System. In the system properties at the bottom of the window, the manufacturer, device model name, serial number and unique ID will be indicated.

Another way

You can also find out which Asus laptop model through Bios. This method will be needed in a situation where the packaging documentation is lost, the label is damaged and you cannot log in to the system due to some error. You need to contact support, but you do not know the name of the device.

First, let's talk about how to get into the BIOS. The methods may differ depending on the device model, but there’s nothing wrong with that: there aren’t that many options. Try pressing the Esc key when loading the manufacturer's logo. A black screen should appear, where you need to find a line with the text Enter to setup... Instead of an ellipsis, a key or combination of buttons will be indicated that must be pressed to enter the BIOS. This inscription can be at the top of the screen, at the end of the text, or at the very bottom. If pressing the Esc key didn't do anything, try one of these options the next time you boot: F2, Ctrl + F2, or Del. So, you went to BIOS. You can find out the name of your device in the Main tab or, in some cases, by pressing the F12 key.

A short article that will help you find out the model of your (or someone else’s) laptop or netbook. In this case, you don’t even have to look for its box or documentation (although this is also an option). This may seem trivial or uninteresting to some, or questions may arise like “How can you not know the laptop model” or “Who do you have to be to not find out such simple information”, but in reality there are situations when you need to determine the laptop model, but there seems to be nowhere to look. In general, I won’t linger for long and will get straight to the point.

1) We look at the sticker on the case itself where the keyboard is. It may be ridiculous, but sometimes people forget about it and don’t watch it. Banal inattention.
A similar sticker can also be on the monitor.

2) As I wrote above, look at the laptop/netbook box. Sellers often stick price tags on it indicating the model and characteristics. Manufacturers can also draw this on the box themselves.
You can also look at the documents, but they most often provide one documentation for the entire series, so the chance to find out the model is unlikely.

3) We turn the laptop over and look at what’s on the bottom. Most often, the information we need is there.

4) We remove the battery. Often you can also see the laptop model under it:

5) Let's find out using standard Microsoft tools,

To do this, open and enter the following command:
wmic csproduct get name

The result should be like this:

6) We will also use standard Windows tools. The method is suitable for Windows 7 and 8.

Right-click on My Computer, select Properties and look:

7) Using the program AIDA 64(former Everest) You can also look at the laptop model.

This program was created to view all information about the computer and system. It used to be free (when Everest was still there), but now it has become paid. Probably it became too popular and the producers decided to make money on it...
But she has a trial period of 30 days to “enjoy” all the delights of the program. but we generally need it for a couple of minutes, so we download it from, or even better, immediately from and watch it.

8) Using the program Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit You can also find out the laptop model. It is free, but does not have support for the Russian language, and besides, the size is 3 times smaller than the previous one from point 7.

We download, install, launch and receive a detailed report with a lot of data. But we only need one “System Model” block

That's all I have. I think 8 ways to look and find out the laptop model will be enough for you.

Every user always faces the question of the model of his laptop. The reasons can be different: you need new software, you need to competently ask for advice on computer forums, or you need to take the device in for repair. To find out the exact laptop model, there are several simple ways.

The PC system code is contained in:

Information in the instructions

If you do not have access to your PC, or it is broken and you are afraid to touch it, then the best solution is to look for the name of your device in the instructions or on the box. The product system code is located directly on the front of the box or on the back of it, in the product description. If you are unable to find it, you should get all the documentation for your device and look there.

There is no need to look for the PC system code in the operating instructions - they review the entire product line at once, and the only thing you can extract from there is the product brand. You need to pay attention to the warranty card and other similar papers, where the full name of the model is indicated several times at once, all the nuances are included, the installed operating system, and so on. This paper will be useful if you try to return the device under warranty - do not throw it away.

If the first method did not help you, you do not have a box with instructions, feel free to move on to the next step.

Front panel

If the laptop is left without documents, Modern laptops have a line on the front panel - the name and brand of the product. If you need the exact system code of the product, then this method will not work - only the general name of the model is indicated here, without a description of modifications, assembly versions, or year of manufacture.

Photo: laptop model sticker on the panel

The required line can be above the screen, below it, next to the touchpad, near the hot keys. Inspect all these places, and if you still cannot find the name of your device.

Looking under the battery

The last “manual” way to determine the model is to remove the battery. If you have never done this, carefully turn the device over and place it on a stable surface. Inspect the panel: at the top or bottom edge you will find a rectangular piece separated from the rest by a small cutout.

Pay attention to nearby buttons and levers - there should be signs nearby explaining the sequence of their presses. Push and pull them and then carefully remove the battery. Under it you will find many different icons and inscriptions, look among them.

This option will work in almost every case, unless the inscriptions are erased. In this case, the only option left is to look in the internal software.

Sometimes the name is contained in the factory stickers present on the bottom of the device. Inspect them, these decals rarely rub off due to the durability of the stickers. Sometimes, although very rarely, the stickers themselves come off. If this happens, you did not find any designations, you will have to find the device name through the laptop itself, or rather in the information contained in the system files.

How to find out your laptop model via the command line

The fastest way to find out the name of a laptop model is to enter the corresponding inscription in the command line.

To do this, you will need to do the following sequence of clicks:

If you need to find out not only the name of the device, but also its other characteristics and parameters, you need to use third-party software.

Programs

The Internet contains a huge number of utilities in order to find out a complete summary of the characteristics of your PC. Let's look at some of them:

EVEREST- one of the most common and convenient in this category, it shows all the properties of the PC, including installed software and drivers. EVEREST is paid, weight 10.6 MB.

CPU-z is a small utility that shows a summary of your device, the main advantages are fast scanning, fast installation and fast downloading. Of the minuses, it displays only basic information on the screen, without software and without drivers. CPU-z is free, weight 1.5 MB.

HWMonitor is a free utility that reads information about a PC. It is capable of reading data from sensors located on ventilation systems, the processor, etc. This allows the user to know the voltage, temperature of the main parts of the device. HWMonitor is free, weighs 1.1 MB.

SiSoftware Sandra Lite- a free utility for viewing information about a PC, the main feature of which is the ability to diagnose drivers and search for errors in hardware. SiSoftware Sandra Lite is quite large, 66 MB, but is distributed free of charge.

As you can see, the choice is quite wide. From this list, select the program you like and install. Next, we will look at several of the most powerful programs in more detail.

Among them:

  • popular Everest;
  • new AIDA64;

Video: system information

Popular Everest

The Everest utility is available in two versions: Home and Ultimate edition. It can not only show the computer system code and the exact characteristics of all its components, but also help configure your device for the best operation.

If you see an error when opening the program, just run it as an administrator, this will solve all the problems.

To find out the device name, do the following chain of actions:

The full version includes additional modules such as system monitoring functions (visual indicators of the most important information about your computer), performance tests and other features. This version costs 1410 rubles, there is a free demo version. The utility is the most complete and widespread among many users. The PC information it provides goes on for hundreds of pages. More than enough for the average user.

The disadvantages include the difficulty of working with the latest systems, problems with installation on Windows 7 and 8. This is due to the cessation of support for the program from the developers. If you were unable to start the program, proceed to the next step.

New AIDA64

Another powerful utility is AIDA64, which is Everest updated for modern systems and computers. It costs money, but you can use a free demo that works for 30 days. The interface is identical to the previous program, so you will not have any additional difficulties.

To find out the name of your computer, just click the same sequence as in Everest - Computer → DMI → System → the line you need is located at the bottom of the window that opens. The advantages of this program compared to the higher one are that it works with modern systems and is supported by its developers.

Belarc Analysis complex

The latest utility is the Belarc Analysis complex, which, like the previous ones, will help you find out not only the full name of your device, but can also serve you well in diagnostics.

Once launched, it will automatically scan your computer and display all information about your device. You can find the name in the “System Model” section, which is located at the top of the window.

Details in BIOS

If your computer does not load the operating system, and you do not find any inscriptions on its surface, do not despair. The system loading screen will help you. For some models, the name is written when turned on - look at the inscriptions that appear when loading. If there is nothing there, you will have to enable the BIOS.

Different computers use different buttons to enter the BIOS. When you turn on the PC, you will see inscriptions at the bottom - pay attention to the signs F1, F12, delete, F8. Check the inscription following these keys - choose the one next to which there are the words BOOT, BIOS. Press the appropriate key on the keyboard. This needs to be done when the window with the inscriptions is on; when the Windows logo appears, it is too late to do this.

There are a variety of BIOS versions available on PCs. But in each of them there is the name of the device. It can be either on the very first screen or on other tabs - click on the top inscriptions. Be careful! If you feel like you're doing something wrong, reboot.

Remember, this method is the most difficult and the most dangerous for the device. Use it as a last resort when others have not helped.

We hope these methods helped you. An effective method is best written down on a piece of paper and saved - who knows when you will need the system code of your computer. If you couldn’t find out anything, you can try going to computer forums, posting a photo of your device there - specialists will determine the code of your device. You will have to wait at least several hours for their response.
