iPhone 7 plus real size. Comparison of overall dimensions, screen sizes and diagonals of all iPhones of different models in centimeters

In today's article we will look at the main differences between the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus. In our table you will clearly see how these two models differ from each other.

Not long ago, the official presentation of new gadgets from Apple took place. It should be noted that the new iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus devices have received a whole list of innovations. And if externally they are not very different from their predecessors, then their internal contents have indeed undergone a number of improvements.

The most anticipated and striking change is the introduction of a waterproof case. Also among the new products is a unique new generation camera and the most powerful A10 processor. In addition, these two models are not only different from earlier versions, but also have significant differences relative to each other.

Comparison of iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in the table

Here we have presented only the differences between the models. We did not include the same characteristics so as not to confuse you.

Characteristics iPhone 7 Plus iPhone 7
Screen size 5.5" 4.7"
Screen resolution 1080x1920 750x1334
RAM 3 GB 2 GB
Length 158.2 mm 138.3 mm
Width 77.9 mm 67.1 mm

Digital zoom 10 X 5 X
Battery capacity 2,900 mAh 1,960 mAh
Talk time 21 o'clock 14 o'clock
Waiting time 2 weeks, 2 days 1 week, 3 days

Display and device sizes

There are no special surprises in the display size. The same widescreen display with a diagonal of 4.7 inches in the seventh version and a widescreen Retina HD display of 5.5 inches in the 7 Plus model. The resolution of such screens is 750X1334 pixels and 1920X1080 pixels, respectively. The increased display size in the iPhone 7 Plus model hints to its users about the overall increase in the size and weight of this device. The weight of the seventh version reaches 138 grams, while in the “plus” model this figure is 50 grams more and amounts to 188 grams.

Battery life

The increase in size of both gadgets indicates an increase in battery life. The developers from Apple themselves noted that the total battery life of the iPhone 7 has now increased by as much as two hours compared to the previous iPhone 6s.

However, this value is still significantly inferior to the operating time of the iPhone 7 Plus. The talk time in the seventh version is about 14 hours on a 3G network, while in the 7 Plus model this figure is increased to 21 hours. In standby mode, the operating time without the need for urgent recharging is about 10 and 16 days, respectively.

New generation camera

Perhaps the main difference between the two new products from Apple, which catches your eye upon first inspection, is their improved camera. Both models have an improved 12 MP iSight camera. The camera's f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilization allow you to get maximum results from photography. Both models also feature a True Tone Quad-LED flash. This is where the similarities end.

The new iPhone 7 Plus has a dual 12 megapixel camera. The lens of this camera is equipped with a lens with a focal length of 56 mm. This solution allows you to get a 2x optical zoom. This is clearly missing from the seventh version. Also, the iPhone 7 Plus has 10x digital zoom versus 5x in the iPhone 7.

Thanks to its unique lens, the “plus” version allows you to select the focus area. You also get the ability to create a blurred background effect in your photos. A special portrait mode will help you with this. However, it should be noted that this function is not yet available. The company's developers promise to release the necessary software that supports this function for the iPhone 7 Plus.

While surfing the Internet, I came across an interesting article, or rather even a note on the popular American website about smartphones Phonearena.com. The authors of the site made visual images of the new iPhone 7 smartphones next to competitors’ smartphones, which gives us the opportunity to find out the sizes of the devices using a clear example, and not just in numbers.

Many manufacturers pay attention not only to the contents of the smartphone, but also to the size. Let's not forget that smartphones are universal devices that we carry with us all the time. We hold it in our hands more often than anything else. And no matter what anyone says, size matters here. No one wants to carry a brick with them all the time, and given the different physiology of users’ hands, devices with a display that have too wide a body are not suitable for everyone.

In 2016, smartphones with frameless design began to appear more and more often, and the screen occupies more and more of the front area of the smartphone. Two different smartphones with the same display diagonal may have different sizes.

Below I have labeled the display diagonals, since comparing the sizes of the iPhone 7 with other diagonals is not entirely correct, but for clarity, comparing the sizes with competitors and predecessors is at least interesting.

As you can see above, the iPhone 7 is the same size as the iPhone 6S, although the battery capacity has been increased from 1715 mAh to 1960 mAh. The Galaxy S7, with a larger diagonal, looks not much larger than the iPhone 7, which is quite natural.

And as you can see from the comparison above, the iPhone 7 is still the lightest of all the models presented, but it also has the smallest display.

And, for example, if we compare the weight with the lighter Sony Xperia X Compact with a diagonal of 4.6 inches, then the Japanese weighs 2 grams less than the iPhone 7 (135 grams). And the Xperia X Compact is more compact in size, as evidenced by the name of the smartphone. Sony's little one becomes the most compact in this review.

As for the size of the iPhone 7 Plus, here we will compare it with larger competitors. In relation to the previous large models from Apple (6 Plus and 6S Plus), nothing much has changed in terms of dimensions. However, when compared with its competitors, the company from Cupertino did not do well here.

As you can see in the image below, the dimensions of the iPhone 7 Plus are far from the reference ones. With a diagonal of 5.5 inches, the iPhone 7 Plus is significantly inferior to the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, which, with a diagonal of 5.7 inches, is noticeably smaller than its competitor. However, Note 7 is smaller than any other smartphone in the high price category and with the same display diagonal. Bravo! What can I say?

The release of a new iPhone always comes with great excitement. It was just presented, and everyone has already started discussing new colors, the abandonment of the minijack and other innovations. Immediately there are experts saying that the device is not worth the money, fans declaring that they are ready to upgrade right now, and many other people.

Equipment

  • Smartphone
  • Lightning cable
  • Charger
  • EarPods with Lightning
  • Lightning to minijack adapter
  • SIM eject tool

Apple has changed the packaging technology in the new iPhones; now, to remove the packaging film from the box, you just need to pull a special tab. The top cover is now also a little easier to remove.

Among the innovations, it is worth highlighting EarPods with Lightning and a 3.5 mm adapter. Please note that the adapter wire is very thin, so I still recommend getting separate headphones with Lightning support or using the included headphones. I myself don’t really like EarPods, because when I wear them I can’t shake the (misleading) feeling that the headphones are about to fall out of my ears. Plus, they play “outside,” so if someone wearing these headphones listens to music at high volume, then you can find out everything about your neighbor’s musical preferences.

On the other hand, I see a lot of positive reviews about these headphones from ordinary users, it is clear that the owners like them. If we talk about the sound, it has become a little more voluminous, the difference compared to the previous generation is audible.

The last change is related to the headphone box. The plastic case was replaced with paper packaging, it looks simpler and is harder to open. However, for me, it would be better if the box was like this, but included an adapter, rather than a plastic case, but without an adapter.

Appearance, body materials

In the new iPhones, the plastic strips for the antennas have been changed; they are hidden at the ends, thanks to which the appearance of the models has become more neat.

Two new colors have appeared on sale: matte black and glossy “black onyx” (Jet Black). The latter is sold only in 128 and 256 GB versions. I tested the matte version, it looks great: strict, practical, and the antenna strips are practically invisible.

An important innovation that for some reason few people remember. The new iPhones slip much less in the hand, and this is very cool, because carrying the “6s” without cases was simply scary. The tactile sensations have also changed; if the previous versions were very smooth and because of this they slipped out, the new generation has become rougher and more velvety. The material is perceived differently, and it is also more practical.

The camera eye has changed a little, now it looks neater and doesn’t cling to your pants pockets if you wear your iPhone without a case.

The device is waterproof according to the IP67 standard. That is, you can drop it into water without any consequences. However, here I agree with Sergei Kuzmin, if the manufacturer guarantees water resistance, this does not mean that you need to swim with the phone every day, dip it in cola, splash it in a glass, etc.

Control elements

Apple decided to abandon the 3.5 mm headphone jack, and at the presentation they did not hesitate to use the phrase “we had the courage to do it.” We had a separate article from Eldar Murtazin, in which he talks in detail about the reasons for such a step.

This is not the first time that the company has rebuilt the industry to suit itself; let us recall, for example, the different SIM card standards that all manufacturers eventually came to, or a laptop with a single port - this idea was also repeated by other companies. So, I’m sure that the abandonment of 3.5 mm will be repeated by other vendors in their flagships. Someone will immediately remember that Apple were not the first in their decision, but that doesn’t matter. The important thing is how widespread this approach will become after its application in the iPhone.

Another change is the transition to a touch-sensitive Home button with haptic feedback. The same Force Touch technology is used as in the company's new MacBooks, but some reviewers wrote that the implementation in the iPhone is still worse.

For my part, I can note that the sensations from pressing are now different, but I cannot say that it has become worse - it has become different. Now, when you “press” a button, it feels as if not only it is being pressed, but the entire bottom panel. Moreover, depending on the choice of intensity, these sensations change greatly; the average level of return seems most natural to me.

The mechanism for removing the SIM card tray has changed slightly. Now when you insert a paperclip, it feels like it won't go in any further, and the tray itself is a little harder to pull out. This is due to the appearance of moisture resistance, as I understand, a special plug is used inside to prevent water from entering. By the way, when connecting the Lightning cable, you also feel that it is harder to insert.

The device has stereo speakers, although they are implemented in a slightly unusual way. The right speaker is in its place, and the left one also doubles as a conversation speaker. In terms of volume and spaciousness, the sound has improved, but it's still not portable speaker level, keep in mind.

Dimensions

I've been using an iPhone 6 as my main phone for almost two years. What does it mean? This means that during the time that I am not using test devices, the main SIM card is inserted into the iPhone. I'm used to its dimensions, and it's always very inconvenient for me to switch to devices with a larger diagonal. They are large in width or thickness and are uncomfortable to hold in your hands. I've tested a lot of smartphones over two years, and in my opinion, the iPhone 6 (and, accordingly, its later versions) has the ideal dimensions. It fits well in the hand, thin and light, and, unlike the SE, it is comfortable to type with two hands.

Screen

Despite the fact that formally the characteristics have not changed, I would like to draw your attention to two important features of the screen in the iPhone 7. Firstly, it has an expanded color gamut; in photographs this is manifested in the fact that the image looks more voluminous. Secondly, if you compare the screen head-on with the iPhone 7, then the “seven” display has more warm colors.

I strongly support Apple's reluctance to increase display resolution. This doesn’t make much sense, and it would be a lot of hassle. Just remember the transition to new resolutions in the sixth iPhones; some developers needed a whole year to update their programs. It is also important to note that the fonts in iOS are selected in such a way as to minimize the disadvantages of “low” resolution.

Another plus of Apple screens is the excellent performance of automatic brightness adjustment. These are the only devices on which I use this function.

operating system

The smartphone runs iOS 10, which we have already described in detail in a separate article.

In the video introduction to the smartphone, I said that the new unlocking system has become less convenient. You first need to turn on the smartphone screen, then hold your finger to unlock, and then press the Home button again. Commentators rightly noted that for more convenient unlocking, it is enough to hold your finger on the scanner literally half a second longer. But this is only required on older iPhones, since in the same “seven” the scanner works at lightning speed.

By the way, this new unlock works great in conjunction with the Raise to Wake function - when you take the smartphone in your hand, the screen automatically turns on, and then just touch your finger to unlock it.

I didn't really like the new messages. If earlier you could lower the window with a message down and then swipe up and that was enough to mark it as read, now you need to specifically go to the notification line.

Performance

I switched to the “seven” from an old iPhone 6, and for me the increase in performance and the difference in operating speed looked noticeable. Desktops scrolled smoother, applications launched faster, the browser worked faster. However, upon closer acquaintance with the device, one could notice jerky animations when minimizing applications or switching between them. I have seen similar complaints from colleagues from other publications. I believe that all this will be corrected in more recent releases of iOS 10 and the problem here is clearly a software one, because on the hardware side of the iPhone 7 everything is great.

As for toys and benchmarks, there are no complaints; after all, all games in the App Store are optimized to run as quickly as possible on iPhones.

I would like to talk separately about memory. Recently I was asked to help sell a couple of used iPhone 6 16 GB, and in the comments to the ad people asked how people survived with such a small memory capacity. Personally, this volume was enough for me: I rarely take photographs, I don’t play heavy games, and my media library fits perfectly into 3-4 GB. In this scenario, 16 GB was more than enough. However, I can only praise Apple's decision to double the memory capacity of all models. After all, videos are now shot in 4k, and live photos weigh quite a bit.

Regarding the clicking sound that some articles constantly talk about: if you put your ear close to the back cover, you will hear a quiet ticking, like a clockwork. If you move your smartphone one or two centimeters away from your ear, you can no longer hear it. In my opinion, the problem is overblown.

Autonomous operation

I had the new product in my hands for just a few days, but even this use was enough to understand that the iPhone 7 does not work much longer than previous generations. Accordingly, you can count on about three to four hours of screen time.

Camera

To describe the camera's capabilities, I asked Roman Belykh to look at photographs of the iPhone 7 in comparison with the iPhone 6; below is his comment:

“Front camera. Due to the higher resolution and the new module, the photographs during the day differ greatly, naturally, in favor of the Apple iPhone 7. Under insufficient lighting conditions, the difference is minimal, basically the 6 exaggerates the colors and slightly less details.

Main cameras. Surprisingly, during the day the iPhone 6 often takes better photographs: less sharpness, nicer colors (they are more accurate and more saturated). In normal lighting, the iPhone 6 is again better - oddly enough, but with fewer artifacts. At night, the Apple iPhone 7 is the leader due to its faster optics and optical stabilizer: it is possible to set a lower ISO value and a longer shutter speed. In addition, background blur is better on the iPhone 7, after all, f=1.8. In general, the result of the new product from Apple is somewhat disappointing when compared with the “old man” iPhone 6.”

I, unlike Roma, am not such a fan of photography, but in all iPhones I was captivated by the ease of getting a great shot: point and shoot - that’s it, a good photo is ready. Their cameras are great for untrained amateurs or just those who don't like to bother with taking pictures. It is logical that Apple worked on the weak point of the camera - shooting in the dark. Plus added optical stabilization and increased focusing speed. As for the difference in good lighting with the previous generation, I didn’t really notice it. Plus, some people like to enlarge photos by x4 and look at what’s going on with the detail, etc. It seems to me that the average consumer will not do this; it is important for him that the picture looks good on the smartphone screen and on the PC screen, and the iPhone 7 has no problems with this.

iPhone 6 iPhone 7

Wireless interfaces

The set of wireless interfaces has remained virtually unchanged: the latest Wi-Fi and Bluetooth technologies, fast GPS and NFC, working with Apple Pay.

Conclusion

I had no complaints about the quality of speech transmission; you and your interlocutor can hear each other perfectly.

  • iPhone 7 32 GB - 57,000 rubles
  • iPhone 7 128 GB - 66,000 rubles
  • iPhone 7 256 GB - 75,000 rubles

The device in black onyx color is available only in 128 and 256 GB variants.

I know that some of our visitors only read the conclusion, so once again let's briefly go over the main innovations of the iPhone 7:

  • Refusal of minijack and adapter included
  • New colors: matte black and black onyx
  • Changing the Home button, switching to a feedback sensor
  • The advent of stereo speakers
  • Expanded color gamut
  • Optical stabilization in camera
  • Changed design of antenna inserts
  • Waterproof according to IP67 standard
  • Double the memory capacity in all versions

I liked that Apple is working on the weak points of their smartphones. Judge for yourself: the minimum amount of memory was doubled, optical stabilization was added, the body materials were changed to more practical ones (Jet Black is still a different story), the antennas were hidden, and stereo speakers were added. From a business point of view, the abandonment of 3.5 mm for headphones looks like an excellent move, and the modified Home button is due to the desire to make it more reliable against moisture.

You'll definitely feel the difference if you upgrade to the 7 from the iPhone 6, and the move will be worth it. I don’t recommend rushing to 6s owners; you have an excellent device that can serve you well for at least another year.

Does size matter when it comes to smartphones? This issue has been actively discussed by consumers and gadget manufacturers for more than one year. While fans and opponents of big screens find more and more arguments in favor of one point of view or another, flagships are confidently conquering the market. The main event of 2016 in this area was the release of Apple’s new development – .

Apple, being a trendsetter in the production of smart phones since its founding, did not want to admit for a long time that the “giants” were doomed to success and continued to develop convenient “pocket” models. This is because Steve Jobs adhered to the point of view that the phone should fit in the hand and have “one-handed” control. Presenting the iPhone 4 with a 3.5-inch screen, which he himself considered ideal in size, he, with his characteristic humor, compared smartphones with large screens to Hummer SUVs. He was convinced that large phones would not be in demand because they looked comical and were inconvenient to use. “Nobody will buy big phones,” he said confidently.

Being true to the ideas of its creator, the company, even after his death, did not want to admit that “off-road” smartphones could also be of interest to someone, and only four years later did it introduce two new models with a diagonal of 4.7 and 5.5 inches. These were the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Compared to previous models, they really shocked everyone. The network immediately began to ironically call them “shovels” and at first, it seemed that Steve Jobs was right about their inadequacy. But very soon it became clear that users liked the “giants”. Even fragile girls with thin wrists chose the new model, noting that they like to hold large-sized gadgets in their hands. What can we say then about brutal men with big hands! They received the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus with a bang. In the first six months alone, 6 Plus occupied 40% of the entire phablet market. However, it still took time for users to get used to the impressive size of the phones.

The iPhone 7 did not create a revolution in this regard. Its parameters compared to the “old” six are very modest:

  • length - 138.3 ml,
  • width - 67.1 ml,
  • thickness - 7.1 ml.

The size changes are so slight that hardly anyone even noticed them. The fact that the body has become thinner by 1 millimeter and longer by 2 can only be seen if you put these two models side by side. For pragmatic Cupertino residents, such an approach is logical. Why change the parameters that users are already accustomed to and which allows you to place all the nodes necessary for the operation of the device.

The 4.7 diagonal really does provide a number of advantages that it would be foolish not to make the most of. Let's talk about some of them.

Advantages of a 4.7 diagonal screen

  • The first is the most obvious. The enlarged screen allows for more information and effective graphical presentation. The iPhone 7 has a special content presentation mode in which icons, fonts and other interface elements appear larger. You no longer have to hold the gadget to your eyes and squint to see small icons. What can we say about reading books or watching photos and videos! You will be able to read novels, watch TV series and take training courses while on the road or standing in line, without experiencing any discomfort at all. And your Facebook photo will look even better when enlarged.
  • The larger keyboard allows you to work more productively with text. Write SMS and emails, make notes in a notepad, work with documents on the way to a business meeting and forget about mistakes and typos.
  • iPhone 7 is a phone, a tablet, and a camera at the same time. You can make calls and exchange SMS, watch movies, listen to music and take high-quality photos. Moreover, unlike a bulky tablet, the seven has a convenient format. It fits in a small women's handbag, in a purse, in the side compartment of a backpack, and even in the inner pocket of a coat or raincoat.
  • Thanks to the impressive size of the iPhone 7, the desktop and most applications can work in landscape mode. Although not all users consider this an advantage. If you're annoyed by the landscape format, just change the settings.
  • One of the main arguments of critics of phablets is the fact that they cannot be used with one hand. To somehow reduce this inconvenience, Apple developers came up with an option that allows you to lower the interface to the middle of the display. If you cannot reach the icon at the top of the screen, and your other hand is occupied, double-click the Home button and all images will drop within reach. How often this function is used by users and how convenient it is is a moot point. If you bought a phablet, then you need to be prepared for the fact that you need both hands to fully use it. But for extreme cases, this feature can be useful.

Advantages of the new gadget

If you are planning to purchase a phone and tablet, don't rush! Perhaps, holding an iPhone 7 with a 4.7 diagonal in your hands, you will change your mind. After all, its characteristics allow you to completely take over the functionality of both of these devices. And besides the functional size there are many other advantages:

  • a powerful and economical processor, which, moreover, itself regulates the performance necessary to solve a particular task,
  • new stereo speakers and EarPods headphones with incredible sound levels,
  • with extended color range,
  • system ,
  • camera with optical stabilization,
  • lens for night photography,
  • selfie camera with increased color range and resolution,
  • LED flash that adapts to environmental conditions,
  • photo editing apps,
  • 3D Touch system,
  • RAM 2 gigabytes and the ability to select the external memory from the following options: 256, 128 or 32.
  • Chic fashionable colors in black tones.

It is clear that the iPhone 7 is the best model from the entire line of Apple smartphones. And some of the inconveniences associated with its large size are quite surmountable. For example, users are most often confused by the fact that, due to its impressive size and too smooth surface, the phone can appear out of hand. This problem can be solved if you purchase a suitable case. And then nothing will stop you from enjoying the latest achievements of modern technology!

The iPhone 7, measuring 4.7 inches diagonally, proves that more of a good thing is better. Make the most of life! Happy shopping.

The iPhone X is one of the most interesting phones released this decade. But not because it offers anything particularly innovative or new. It's interesting because it's the most radical iPhone redesign yet, tapping into a number of key industry trends and adding a level of polish that will appeal to Apple fans. What are the dimensions and weight of the iPhone X?

Of all the new Apple features in the new one, its appearance changes, and the phone's full-screen display is the largest. This is the largest screen the company has ever built on an iPhone in its 10-year history. And yet, the iPhone X itself is actually smaller than the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 7 Plus in terms of height and width.

The image of the iPhone X makes it clear how Apple did this. The Cupertino team stretched the top and bottom of the screen so that the display filled all the available space, which Apple called Super Retina Display. The designers even removed the home button you've used for years to navigate your phone and unlock with Touch-ID. In other words, they made the phone's screen bigger without making the iPhone X bigger.

iPhone 8 Plus vs iPhone 8 vs iPhone X dimensions and weight

Here's how the sizes of the iPhone X and iPhone 8 compare:

The iPhone X measures 143.6mm by 70.9mm and is 7.7mm thick.
-IPhone 8 size is 138.4 mm by 67.3 mm and has a thickness of 7.3 mm.
-The iPhone 8 Plus measures 158.4mm by 78.1mm and is 7.5mm thick.

So, as you can see, the iPhone 8 is smaller and thinner, but this is not significant.

Therefore, if your choice is based on the size and shape of the iPhone, then you can safely purchase any of the above proposed ones.

However, when it comes to weight, the difference is more significant.

iPhone X weighs 174 grams.
-IPhone 8 weighs 148 grams.
-IPhone 8 Plus weighs 202 grams.

As we can see, the iPhone 8 wins - with a difference of 26 grams. A teaspoon of sugar weighs approximately 4 grams, so that's about 6-7 spoons of sugar, which is enough for a very sweet cup of tea, but we doubt you'll care much about that.

So, if you are choosing an iPhone based on weight and size, then you can take any of the smartphones, because the difference is minimal. Another thing is the price.

If you really want a small iPhone, then there is another iPhone you might consider. iPhone SE is Apple's smallest iPhone:

The iPhone SE measures just 123.8mm by 58.6mm and is 7.6mm thick.
-It weighs 113 grams.
However, we recommend that you wait for the iPhone SE 2 to be released next year. (But this is not certain)

iPhone 8 and iPhone X display sizes, what are the differences?

The iPhone X and iPhone 8 are almost identical when it comes to size and weight, but there is one very big difference: screen size.

The iPhone X has a 5.8-inch Super Retina HD display.
-IPhone 8 has a 4.7-inch Retina HD display.
-IPhone 8 Plus has a 5.5-inch Retina HD display.
As we can see, the top ten is a clear favorite, however, this size is deceptive.

Thus, if you choose a smartphone based on screen size, choosing based on numbers will be the wrong decision. It all comes down to how much of your smartphone you're willing to sacrifice to get a bigger screen.

The iPhone 8 Plus has a large screen, but it's large and can be awkward to use.
The iPhone X has the longest screen with a notch at the top, but it's narrower than the iPhone 8

Based on this, we have no right to advise any of them to you. However, we think it's plausible that even though the iPhone X has a larger screen than the iPhone 8, the difference won't be as noticeable in use.
