New samsung monitor 32 9.

Once the 16:10 formats and 16: 9, which almost ousted it from the market, were not without reason called "widescreen" - against the background of monitors with an aspect ratio of 4: 3 and 5: 4, such models really seemed wide and made it possible to partially take advantage of the advantages of multi-monitor without resorting to to herself. They have even been called “cinematic,” although true widescreen formats in motion picture production imply aspect ratios of 2.35: 1 or even 2.39: 1.

Today it is not so difficult to find a monitor with a 21: 9 (2.3: 1) format - most often they have a resolution of 3440 × 1440 and allow you to watch movies in almost their native aspect ratio. But Samsung goes even further, because, as already mentioned, a widescreen monitor is not only a means of viewing film products, but also a convenient replacement for multi-monitor systems, which have their drawbacks: for example, when you change the resolution on one of the monitors, the windows located by the user inevitably shift themselves and do not always return to the place, which can cause inconvenience.

Samsung is currently developing panels and monitors with aspect ratios of 29: 9 and 32: 9 with resolutions of 3840 × 1200 and 3840 × 1080, respectively. Both models are planned to be made concave with a panel bending radius of 1800R, the diagonals of the new products will be rather big - 44 ″ and 49 ″, respectively. Most likely, the larger model is really intended for movie lovers and gamers - it is too large for a normal work monitor and the vertical resolution of 1080 is not liked by many professionals. It is known that it will be based on VA technology and will provide a contrast ratio of 5000: 1. The maximum frequency of the new panel will be 144 Hz, optional support for AMD and NVIDIA adaptive synchronization technologies is assumed. Mass production is slated for September 2017.

A panel with an aspect ratio of 29: 9 will have a diagonal of 44 ″, and now it is just a convenient replacement for two monitors with a resolution of 1920 × 1200, since it allows you to organize a workspace with the so beloved by professionals 1200 pixels high by 3840 pixels wide. The technology will be used in it the same, which guarantees excellent contrast, but also the presence of a color shift feature - depending on the angle from which the user looks, VA panels can "swallow" some of the dark shades. This is sometimes considered unacceptable when working with photo and video materials. This model will be available in 60 and 144 Hz versions, and mass production is expected at the same time. Finally, Samsung plans to include another model, but it is not very interesting - the display panel with a 40 ″ diagonal will have a resolution of only 1920 × 1080, and its contrast is lower, only 3000: 1. It clearly targets entry-level TVs and multimedia displays. The production of this model will begin earlier, in August 2017.

The gaming industry is becoming more and more popular and profitable, and manufacturers of hardware and peripherals are paying more attention to the release of devices aimed at gamers. Although, to tell the truth, most of these devices are not highly specialized, but can be used for any purpose. For example, take gaming monitors: now there are a lot of models that can boast not only ultra-high pixel response speed and refresh rate, but also excellent color reproduction. The times when TN matrices were used in gaming monitors and laptops are almost gone, and now the choice of monitors with IPS / PLS or VA matrices is really large. Diagonals are growing, curved models with different aspect ratios have appeared. And sometimes you come across really unique models, like the Samsung C49HG90, which we will talk about today and try to figure out why it is good and unique and for what advantages it is really worth buying. The monitor impresses with its appearance, but at first glance there are concerns about its usability, and in general, is it not too broad? In fact, all fears were not confirmed and in fact it is very convenient.

World's First 32: 9 Curved 49 '' Monitor

The Samsung C49HG90 is a first-of-its-kind 49-inch monitor with an ultra-wide 32: 9 aspect ratio and 3840x1080 resolution. Third-party manufacturers also have similar models and it is possible that in the future there will be more of them. Ultra-wide monitors are no longer a rarity, but these are mostly 21: 9 models, in this case the aspect ratio is 32: 9 which was not there before. We'll talk about how you can use all the useful space a little later. The monitor is curved, the radius of curvature is 1.8 m. The benefit of a curved screen in TVs is doubtful, because the distance to the screen and the position relative to it can vary significantly. With monitors, the situation is completely different: we always sit in front of the computer at a short distance, and in this case, the desired effect is really there. Moreover, with ultra-wide monitors, this is the best way out: the distance from the eyes to different points of the monitor and the viewing angle are almost the same, which is perceived much more pleasantly than with flat monitors, especially at such sizes.

Impressive appearance

Of course, one of the most important criteria for choosing a monitor is the picture quality, and in the case of gaming models, also the refresh rate and pixel response speed. But you have to spend many hours behind the monitor, so it should look nice and be constructively comfortable. The Samsung C49HG90 is fine with this. The monitor has a so-called "frameless" design: when turned off, the monitor looks like one large curved surface with a small insert at the bottom. Of course, when you turn on the frames are visible, but they are very small (especially considering the diagonal):

The monitor is very wide, 120 cm, which means it must be stable. The large metal stand does a great job with this:

You can adjust the monitor height, tilt and swivel angle of the monitor:

Nice bonuses - a folding headphone holder and Aura Lihtning lighting around the ring behind the monitor, which effectively illuminates the wall behind the monitor:

Very fast and high quality VA matrix

Previously, when releasing gaming monitors, manufacturers had to make sacrifices: only TN matrices could provide the required response speed and high refresh rate, but the image quality and viewing angles left much to be desired. Now there are IPS and VA matrices that are suitable for gaming models. The Samsung C49HG90 has a proprietary VA matrix with 144 Hz refresh rate, 1 ms response time and AMD FreeSync 2 frequency syncronization technology. Although at a maximum of 144 Hz, Nvidia GeForce owners have nothing to worry about, the picture is very smooth. If desired, the frequency can be reduced to 120 or 60 Hz during operation, for example. For 144 Hz, a monitor must be connected via DisplayPort, the maximum frequency via HDMI is 120 Hz.

VA-matrix is characterized by high-quality color reproduction, high maximum brightness, contrast and wide color gamut. The monitor has a very uniform backlighting, in contrast to a lot of curved models, which have highlights in the corners. The viewing angles of the monitor are maximum, the typical brightness is declared 350 cd / m2, measurements using a colorimeter showed that the indicator is close to the declared one and is 336.103 cd / m2, the calibration is of high quality: the color error ΔE does not exceed 6, although if you wish, you can easily rebuild more more precisely:

To protect the eyes at night, a corresponding mode with a blue filter is provided, which just produces the greatest strain on vision:

Quantum Dot technology and HDR support

The monitor uses Quantum Dot (QLED) technology. We discussed in detail what quantum dots are in. In general terms, between the LED backlight and the liquid crystal matrix, another layer is added with a liquid metal substance with quantum dots ranging in size from 3 to 7, which, under the action of the backlight, themselves become light sources. The color depends on the size of the quantum dots. This provides more brightness, saturation, wider color gamut, and higher contrast ratio.

The monitor supports High Dynamic Range (HDR), which makes the dark parts of the picture look even deeper, while the bright parts look brighter. The monitor matrix fully meets the necessary requirements for HDR support. But not everything is so simple: both the video card and the software must support HDR, and there must be appropriate content. Most modern games already support HDR, there is already a decent amount of video content on the network and it looks really great. Windows 10 already has native support and HDR is enabled in display settings:

Unique usability

Samsung C49HG90 in terms of its area and resolution is equivalent to two adjacent 27-inch FullHD, which significantly increases the usable area. Most modern games support the native resolution of 3840x1080, which together with the curved screen shape creates a truly great gaming experience and WOW effect. It is difficult to describe in words or screenshots, only to see it live. Interestingly, the size and width of the screen are just such that the whole picture falls into the viewing angle.

But such a screen is useful not only for games: you can comfortably work with two full-size windows that correspond to 27-inch FullHD monitors, or divide the screen into even more windows. Supports displaying images simultaneously from two sources. There are a lot of scenarios for efficient use of space: video editing, sound recording, when it is more comfortable to work with large working windows, at the same time with which plug-in settings are open or something else. Designing or editing photos is definitely more convenient to do in front of a large monitor. Plus web analytics, exchanges and other activities in which it is necessary to study large amounts of information from different sources:

The monitor is equipped with all the necessary connectors: there are DisplayPort, Mini DisplayPort and two HDMI 2.0 video inputs, a USB hub for 2 USB 3.0 ports, a microphone input and a headphone output. They are located on the back of the monitor and point downward. After connecting everything, the panel is closed with a decorative cover. The leg also has a recess for cable routing, so everything is comfortable and looks very neat. The kit contains all the necessary cables, so you don't have to run after them to the store.

Pre-calibrated game modes for different game genres

According to Samsung, the monitor was created in conjunction with a team of gamers, thanks to which it has ready-made game modes for different game genres with appropriate settings. They can be adjusted for yourself, as a result, this will help save time and not configure all the parameters every time you start the game. Plus there are sRGB, Cinema, Night and fully customizable modes. All of this is configurable with a single five-way joystick and OSD menu. There are three separate buttons for quick mode switching.

In the dry residue

The Samsung C49HG90 is a unique, memorable gaming monitor with a full complement of essential components and state-of-the-art technology to enjoy gaming and more. This is a curved monitor with a huge diagonal, excellent VA panel with a high refresh rate, minimal pixel response time, HDR support, Quantum Dot (QLED) technology and, as a result, excellent, bright and rich pictures. A large screen with an ultra-wide aspect ratio is good not only for games, it is also great for various work purposes: sound recording, video editing, analytical work with a bunch of different sources of information, design. Plus Samsung has not forgotten about the aesthetic component: it looks cool, causes a WOW effect and saggy jaws in others, while the design is very well thought out and it is convenient to use it as much as possible. But it is worth taking care of a large table: after all, the width of the monitor is 1.2 meters.

Easy Setting Box

The Easy Setting Box software makes working with two or more windows even easier.

Picture-by-Picture function

PBP: The Picture-by-Picture function allows you to display 2 different sources on one screen in high definition (the screen is divided in half).

Don't miss anything. Static contrast ratio 3000: 1

High static contrast provides deep blacks, comfortable text handling and vibrant colors in rich scenes.

Don't miss anything. Equalizer black

With a 20-stop black setting, the monitor can display crisp details in the darkest gaming moments, and high static contrast contributes to this.

Ergonomic design. Height adjustable stand

A sturdy stand designed specifically for gamers. It provides precise control over the position of the monitor screen. In addition, this design allows you to conveniently hang your headphones on specials. leg element if you do not need them at the moment.

Comfortable work

Eye Saver Mode reduces eye strain by reducing the brightness of the blue light.

conclusions

The Samsung C49HG90DMI monitor is a unique product. The manufacturer went on an insane, in a sense, experiment, which, from our point of view, was a success. Moreover, despite all the company's statements about the gaming orientation of the tested novelty, we at 4K-Monitor agreed that the hero of the review is an excellent monitor for any kind of activity, where a large workspace is an advantage, not a disadvantage. Moreover, many of the modern (not to mention old) games do not yet support / do not fully support this aspect ratio, and some of them (the ones that we checked) have problems. So do not rush to buy a new product if games for you are almost the only thing you do on a PC. After all, there are no worse options, the same 100 Hz UWQHD on IPS or * VA.

Of course, such a display requires a lot of space, but it won't be so difficult to find it, thanks to the special aspect ratio. The wide and not tall screen, thanks to the additional curvature (1800R - comfortable, no longer needed for such a diagonal) allows you to work comfortably, without thinking in an hour that there is a 49-inch giant in front of you. The used SVA-panel allows you to forget about the poor uniformity in black (we were really surprised by the high result) and the strong Glow-effect, and the applied QD-LED-backlight will allow you to enjoy rich colors (only professionals in color will not like this, but this is a solvable problem ).

The manufacturer made a fairly good factory setting (of course, this is not the declared level from the attached report), ensured the absence of visible artifacts on moving objects, competently adjusted the panel overclocking, which proved to be very good for a 144 Hz gaming monitor. This, of course, is not the level of modern TN + Film-models, but if not only speed is important to you, then the C49HG90DMI will be a couple of steps higher than any of them, however, and noticeably more expensive. Good luck making the right choice!

Disadvantages:

  • Optimization of many modern games for this format leaves much to be desired - it's scary to talk about very old ones ... - but this is probably a matter of the developers' time and desire, as well as the massive use of such monitors (which is unlikely to ever happen);
  • ShI-modulation at 360 Hz practically in the entire operating range of the backlight (~ 0-90%) - the eyes of some users will not say "thank you";
  • A high price - of course, because there are no competitors yet.

May not suit:

  • Not the highest rigidity of the structure and rocking of the case on the stand;
  • The monitor, in particular the stand used, requires a lot of free space on the desktop;
  • Lack of built-in speaker system and only two USB 3.0 ports;
  • Bold pixel like on 27-inch Full HD models;
  • The brightness in the Faster and Fastest matrix overclocking modes is blocked at a certain level (199-204 nits - very bright);
  • Black Crush effect, as on all * VA monitors;
  • Medium grayscale CG stability;
  • Potential color problems due to extended color gamut - use a color profile and CMS-enabled software;
  • The glow effect on the black field is clearly visible, despite the use of the * VA matrix.

Gryzhin Alexander aka = DEAD =

Some users are still confident in the widescreen status with an aspect ratio of 16: 9 or 21: 9. But it seems that one of the market leaders, the Korean Samsung, thinks very differently. And now the company is working on new VA panels for 32: 9 and 29: 9 monitors.

It clarifies that the VA panel under development by Samsung with an aspect ratio of 32: 9 will receive a 49 "diagonal, a resolution of 3840x1080 and will be characterized by a radius of curvature of 1800 mm and a static contrast ratio of 5000: 1. At the same time, it uses a 3-sided frameless design and a refresh rate of up to 144Hz Monitors with the new panel will get G-Sync or Freesync support.

As for the 29: 9 VA panel, it has a 44 "diagonal and a resolution of 3840x1200 pixels. It will have the same contrast and radius of curvature characteristics, and its refresh rate can range from 60 to 144 Hz. And of course we see no reason why it won't be able to get G-Sync / Freesync support.

Serial production of panels should begin in September 2017.
