HP laptop won't turn on

Brought to the laptopHP Pavilion 15 - n055sr diagnosed as "dead" or " won't turn on"And indeed, when connecting it to the network (with or without a battery), the laptop did not react at all to the power button. The solution turned out to be quite unexpected (and is suitable not only for HP laptops, but also for other brands), but first things first. ..

The client claimed that he handled the laptop carefully, did not spill anything on it, did not hit it, and in general it turned off normally after work and did not turn on again...

As usual, we carried out standard diagnostics And visual inspection motherboard for flooding and mechanical damage. The cooling system also turned out to be normal and was quite clean. On laptop overheating It clearly doesn’t look like it, we thought, and decided that perhaps the reason for everything was a failure of the BIOS microprogram (firmware).

Resetting BIOS firmware on a laptop HP Pavilion G6 15 - n055sr can only be done by disassembling it completely, unlike, for example, where everything is much simpler (you can read about how the BIOS is reset on the company’s laptops Packard Bell). After disassembling the laptop, remove it from the motherboard BIOS battery for 10-15 minutes, and without wasting time, let’s go drink coffee...)

After 10-15 minutes, we insert the battery back, connect the cable from the laptop charging connector to the board and we see this picture, the charging indicator, which was not initially on, came on:

Next, press the power button and, lo and behold! , the laptop turned on, although it was disassembled, but it worked fine. The job is done, we thought, and assembled the laptop completely... connected charger and laptop HP Pavilion 15 won't turn on again!!! AND power indicator Same doesn't light up! In general, everything is as before...

The solution came somehow by itself... we started disassembling the laptop, removed the keyboard, disconnected the remaining cables and “for good luck” connected the power, and the power indicator again lit up with a magical light.

Then everything turned out to be very simple, using the method serial connection all loops and devices (Wi-Fi adapter, memory, hard drive) it was discovered that the laptop does not turn on with the keyboard connected!!!

To determine what exactly the reason is: in the keyboard controller on the motherboard or in the keyboard itself, the easiest way is to connect a known-good keyboard of exactly the same model (look at the part number on back side keyboard, our number on the keyboard was like this:719853-251 ) and check the operation of the laptop, but not everyone has a spare laptop keyboard on hand! And we didn’t have it. Therefore we use another universal method keyboard checks.

1. Disconnect the keyboard from the laptop:

2. Take the multimeter and switch it to resistance measurement mode in the megaohm (MOhm) range:

3. Then, one by one, check the resistance between the contacts of the keyboard cable. First between the first and second contacts, then between the first and third, between 1m and 4m, 1m and 5m and so on until last contact. Then we put one multimeter probe on the second contact of the cable, and the second probe on the third contact of the cable and also check the short circuit between 2m and all other contacts of the cable. We carry out this procedure with all contacts.

As a result, we got a resistance of about 30kOhm between 3 and 4, 3 and 5, 3 and 6 (and in several other cases), which clearly indicates keyboard malfunction. It was either flooded or has some internal hidden defects. Given way to check the health of the keyboard applicable to keyboards from almost any laptop manufacturer (LENOVO, ACER, SAMSUNG, TOSHIBA, etc.)

After keyboard replacement laptop HP Pavilion G6 15 - n055sr started to turn on and work normally. After several hours of testing in different modes We verified that the laptop was in working order with the new keyboard.

It is worth noting that diagnostics and testing to identify a laptop malfunction in the case when the laptop does not turn on / does not start should begin with the sequential disconnection of all devices and modules connected to it. What to do if the HP G62 laptop does not turn on

To find out why the HP G62 laptop does not turn on, you need to inspect the internal components of the device. First of all, the battery, then the cable, connectors and, of course, the power supply. If there are no obvious signs of malfunction, it is necessary to obtain data on the voltage at the output of the external unit. The voltmeter showed zero - the device is inoperative and the power supply will have to be repaired. You can also use a spare battery for testing (if available). Otherwise, it is better to turn to professionals, who are the employees of our

To make sure that the power supply system is working, we first carry out an express check:

  1. The wizard disconnects the power supply connectors from the MP, video card, hard drive, cooler.
  2. Then he closes (with tweezers/clip) the wires on the widest connector (green or black wire).
  3. If the power button is lit, the fans inside the power supply have not started - the power supply is faulty, which means it will be subject to a more thorough check and repair. The cost of services is indicated in the section

The reason that the HP G62 laptop does not turn on with the button may be:

  1. Malfunction of the motherboard (main symptom: the laptop does not turn on, the indicators are on);
  2. Overheating of BGA chips, connectors;
  3. Failure of the battery or power circuit;
  4. Burnt out processor;
  5. Errors in reading RAM;
  6. Non-working matrix or its connection cable

Whichever option turns out to be correct, our specialists will solve the problem and extend the life of your laptop!

Common HP laptop models that are repaired in our service center with this problem

  • ~ repair cost 1500 rub.
  • ~ repair cost 3200 rub.
  • ~ repair cost 1400 rub.
  • ~ repair cost 1000 rub.

When and why should you come to an HP service center?

Repairing the motherboard yourself may lead to further big problems. If handled carelessly, it is easy to damage the processor (for example, if you touch its legs with your fingers). The MP problem may be hidden in a “collapsed” connector (socket) of the power connector. This is difficult for the untrained eye to understand, but not for our employees.

In order to change the BGA or resolder the power connectors you need to use professional IR soldering station (we have all the necessary equipment!)

A “breakdown” of the power circuits can be caused by voltage surges, the use of low-quality or universal power supplies without current protection, a malfunction of the battery, or mechanical impacts (shocks, falls).

To eliminate such damage, our technician will restore all connections, thereby ensuring the functionality of the power circuit elements.

The main “symptom” of a problem with the HP processor is that the laptop does not turn on (precursors: heating, periodic rebooting). You can check whether this is true by removing the cooling system and inspecting the crystal and the sticker underneath it. If it has darkened, the conclusion is clear!

Don't mess with your PC hardware yourself, trust the experience of the people at our center!

To understand that the problem is in the display, you will have to connect the laptop to an external screen through one of DVI connectors, VGA or HDMI (no difference). If a picture appears on the monitor upon startup, but the laptop screen does not turn on, then it is the laptop that has failed. Isn't there such a possibility? Come, we will look, check, fix.

When is memory replacement required on a laptop and how is it diagnosed?

Lead RAM When it becomes unusable, it’s very simple (which most often becomes the cause of the problem called “the laptop won’t turn on”) - fill the keyboard with some liquid. Even if this didn’t happen, it’s still worth checking the OP.

This usually happens as follows: the technician, disconnecting from the network and removing the battery, opens the memory compartment (after removing the bolt and “pulling out” special latches. The removed strip is inspected for oxides or blackened tracks. If the result is positive, it is replaced with a similar model, parameters which is no different from those that my native had.
