Hello friends. This time I decided to write about a document format that we have been using for a very long time, but some people haven’t even thought about finding out what kind of format it is – PDF.

Let's imagine a situation where you spent a long time and persistently typing a document in Word. The version is not particularly important; you could write text in Word 2003 or 2007, or 360 (Office on Windows 10). Then you naturally saved the document and sent it, for example, to a friend. He opens it through some other text editor, and now there are a lot of them. For example, it could be LibreOffice or OpenOffice. What is the result? Text may appear completely differently in another editor, and sometimes with an ugly design style.

From the above, the following follows: a document opened in different text editors will look different. Of course, the author is not to blame for this, and neither is the friend or colleague to whom you forwarded the document. So what should we do then?

• Printing a document on paper. It is not always a reasonable decision if the document has more than a dozen sheets or the person to whom the document should be transferred lives in another city or country;
• Sending information by fax. Sometimes this may not be possible due to the lack of a fax machine on the other side;
• Save a document to another format, such as PDF.

What is PDF?

In short, the PDF format is a universal format for many text editors and operating systems. In other words, you can open a file of this format on any device and editor that supports it. There are also special programs for viewing PDF. The most popular viewers are Adobe Reader and Foxit Reader.

• The text of the document cannot be edited, but you can use special tools for this;
• If you do decide to edit the PDF file, it probably won't have the fonts you want to use, so you'll have to embed them;

But does everyone need a monster with a fairly large volume and relatively slow launch? Most likely, not everyone, since the majority of users only need to read the document and nothing more. Therefore, it is worth paying attention to small free programs that are fast.

Lightweight and fast, Foxit Reader is the most successful competitor to Adobe Reader, which allows you to add annotations to documents, but at the same time does not allow you to edit the files.

A compact and fairly fast program that consumes a minimum of system resources. It can work on any operating system and is distinguished by the presence of a portable version that can be run from a flash drive. It also works correctly when scaling black and white images, which distinguishes Sumatra from most similar software solutions.
