WARNING: Before you begin the cloning process, we recommend that you read these instructions carefully.

Operating system compatibility
– Microsoft Windows® 7 (32/64-bit)
– Microsoft Windows® 8 / 8.1 (32/64-bit)
– Microsoft Windows® 10 (32/64-bit)

Supported file systems
– FAT16 / FAT32 / exFAT / NTFS

Hardware Requirements
– For desktop computers:
1. SATA or IDE port

3. SATA to SATA cable
4. SATA power cable
5. 3.5" mounting bracket and screws
6. Phillips screwdriver

– For laptop computers:
1.USB 2.0/3.0 ports
2. Transcend hard disk and solid state drive
3. USB-SATA cable or adapter

If the capacity of the new SSD is less than the capacity of your current hard drive:

Example A:
The capacity of the new SSD is 128 GB, the capacity of the current hard drive is 160 GB, the size of the partition where the OS (C:) is installed is 20 GB.
In this configuration, the function will only clone the partition where the operating system is installed. Other hard disk partitions must be backed up manually.

Example B:
The capacity of the new SSD is 128 GB, the current HDD is 160 GB, the partition where the OS (C:) is installed is 150 GB, of which 140 GB is data.
The clone function cannot work in this configuration.
For cloning to succeed, the amount of data on the hard disk partition where the operating system is installed must not exceed the capacity of the solid state drive.

Example B:
The capacity of the new SSD is 128 GB, the current HDD is 160 GB, the partition where the OS (C:) is installed is 150 GB, of which 100 GB is data.
The clone function will copy 100 GB of data from the current hard drive to the new SSD. After performing this operation, the remaining space on the new SSD may not be enough to back up other files from the hard disk. In this case, to copy larger files, it is recommended to purchase a larger SSD.

If the capacity of your new SSD is equal to or greater than your current hard drive:

The Transcend System Clone function will clone the entire drive (all partitions) to a new SSD. In addition, the clone function allows you to expand the volume of the disk (Extend Disk) so that it takes up all the free space of the new SSD.

To start cloning, follow these steps:

Note: Do not disconnect the current drive from the computer until the cloning process is completed.

STEP 1: Connect your new SSD to your computer

If you are unable to find a solution to your problem in this guide and are having difficulty using the SSD Scope software or Transcend SSD, please visit the USBDev Portal User Support site - http://www..php .

Transcend Information Inc is a Taiwanese manufacturer of computer equipment and peripherals, information storage and recording devices, multimedia devices and other small things. The manufacturer claims a lifetime warranty on the goods. This refers to the period from the moment of sale to the removal of the product from the production line.

Transcend hard drives have proven to be excellent in the market and have repeatedly shown themselves well, compared with competitors in various tests. It is on the basis of this information that the material below is provided, which describes the most common malfunctions of Transcend hard drives and offers options for recovering information and resuscitating the hard drive.

The most common and simplest failure of your device is a logical failure. It is expressed in damage to the file system of the drive. It is quite difficult to notice the error, since the BIOS detects the hard drive, checking for errors does not show anything. Only an incorrect termination occurs when working with programs that access the file system.

The solution is pretty simple! You can easily restore the Transcend disk and information manually without contacting specialized service centers:

Scan the hard drive using special software and recover data based on the scan results

It is important to restore the directory structure of the file system

The next misfortune for you may be a breakdown of the electronic board. The failure of electronic circuits and hard disk elements is the most typical problem for all hard drives, which is caused by a network failure or static.

To determine the breakdown, you should pay attention to:

The hard drive does not spin up when the power is on

During visual inspection, you can notice burnt areas and damaged elements on the hard drive board

In this case, the task is more difficult for the buyer, since the breakdown cannot be eliminated by simple intervention. And you need to send the disk to a special service center for the restoration of equipment. This is affected by the design of the hard drive board - it is unique for each model. And sometimes it happens, even for a specialist, it is difficult to find similar elements to replace faulty elements. It is already worth worrying when this process takes a long time. This task may be impossible for a service center employee and you will not be able to recover the information.

Another type of failure of your disk may be a compromised system service data integrity. To understand the problem, it is worth delving into the insides of the hard drive. This is a complex system, which consists of interconnected elements (processor, RAM, ROM), which is a small computer. The hard drive processor runs its own operating system, which is called microcode or a utility program. It consists of modules that are responsible for the functioning of the disk, and can have an ambiguous effect on performance.

The problem is difficult, but you can determine by paying your attention to such points:

When you turn on the power, the hard drive spins up without any problems

BIOS accurately determines the model and amount of space

Check for disk surface failure fails

In this case, it is possible to restore the Transcend disk and the information stored on it. But this will require specialized software that will restore the operation of the firmware modules. The reason that caused such a problem is a breakdown in the block of magnetic heads caused by self-intervention.

Transcend's removable drives are used by a very large number of users around the world. No wonder, because these flash drives are quite inexpensive, and serve for a long time. But sometimes some kind of misfortune happens to them - the information disappears due to damage to the drive.

This can happen for various reasons. Some flash drives fail due to the fact that someone dropped them, others simply because they are already old. In any case, every user who has a removable media from Transcend should know how to recover data on it if they are lost.

There are proprietary utilities that allow you to very quickly recover data from Transcend USB drives. But there are programs that are designed for all flash drives, but they work especially well with Transcend products. In addition, the standard Windows data recovery method often helps with flash drives from this company.

Method 1: RecoveRx

This utility allows you to recover data from flash drives and protect them with a password. It also allows you to format drives from Transcend. Suitable for absolutely all removable media from Transcend and is proprietary software for this product. To use RecoveRx for data recovery, follow these steps:

Method 2: JetFlash Online Recovery

This is another proprietary utility from Transcend. Its use looks very simple.

Method 3: JetDrive Toolbox

Interestingly, the developers position this tool as software for Apple computers, but it also works very well on Windows. To restore using JetDrive Toolbox, follow these steps:

JetDrive Toolbox actually works exactly the same as RecoveRx. The difference is that there are a lot more tools here.

Method 4: Transcend Autoformat

If none of the above standard recovery utilities help, you can use Transcend Autoformat. True, in this case, the flash drive will be formatted immediately, that is, there will be no chance to extract any data from it. But it will be restored and ready to go.

Using Transcend Autoformat is extremely simple.

  1. and run it.
  2. At the top, select the letter of your storage medium. Below, indicate its type - SD, MMC or CF (just check the box next to the desired type).
  3. Click on the button " Format" to start the formatting process.

Method 5: D-Soft Flash Doctor

This program is famous for the fact that it works at a low level. Judging by user reviews, it is very effective for Transcend flash drives. Removable media repair using is performed as follows:

If repair using all the above methods does not help restore the media, you can use the standard Windows recovery tool.

Method 6: Windows Recovery Tool

Judging by the reviews, these 6 methods are the most optimal in the case of a damaged Transcend flash drive. Less efficient in this case is the EzRecover program. How to use it, read on our website. You can also use the programs and. If none of these methods help, it's best to just buy a new removable media and use it.

Restore the system partition using LiveCD

If it is not possible to connect a hard drive with a lost or damaged system partition to another computer, you can restore such a partition by starting the computer using LiveCD, an alternative portable version of the operating system. For this:

  • Find and download the LiveCD that suits you to a CD/DVD or USB stick.
  • Connect the LiveCD to your computer and turn it on. The computer will automatically boot from the LiveCD.
  • Copy the files from the system partition to another storage medium.

Step 3: SMART Transcend External Drive Settings

Major hard drive manufacturers include S.M.A.R.T. to your hard drives. S.M.A.R.T. analyzes many mechanical attributes. The analysis of many of them makes it possible to fix the incorrect operation of the disk until the moment of its complete failure, as well as the reason for its failure.

But even though S.M.A.R.T. allows you to identify future problems, most of them cannot be prevented. So S.M.A.R.T. is a technology that often serves as a warning that a drive is about to fail. S.M.A.R.T. values cannot be fixed, and there is no need to waste time on it.

Each hard drive manufacturer sets a threshold for a particular operation. Under normal circumstances, this threshold is never exceeded. Otherwise, we run into an error.

There are 256 values, each of which has its own ID. Some errors and limit values are critical. They don't have a solution. The only solution is to replace the hard drive as soon as such an error is detected.

Critical SMART errors have no way to fix them. If you do not replace the hard drive, then the error window will appear again and again. The only justified action in this case would be to save data from still available disk sectors. If the error warning comes true, the disk will become inaccessible to any of the programs. Therefore, it is necessary to take steps to save your data.

Step 4: Restore the File System of the Transcend External Drive

If the file system of the Transcend external drive cannot be determined, format the device.

File system of Transcend external drive is detected as RAW

Sometimes the operating system cannot determine the structure of the file system (for example, FAT or NTFS). If you look at the properties of such a device, then its file system will be defined as RAW. In this case, Windows prompts you to format the drive.

There are utilities that specialize in RAW disk recovery, but we recommend choosing a universal solution - Hetman Partition Recovery. This function is included in it as an additional one, you only need to launch the program and run the analysis of such a disk.

Run CHKDSK command

In some cases, the file system of a Transcend external drive can be restored using the command CHKDSK.

  1. Run command line on behalf of administrator.
  2. Enter command “chkdsk D: /f”(instead of D: - enter the letter of the desired drive) and press ENTER.
  3. After running the command, the process of checking and fixing errors on the disk or device will start, this can return the file system to working capacity.

Step 5: Partition the Transcend external drive with the diskpart command

If a USB flash drive, memory card, or any other type of storage media is not working properly, cleaning the disk and its partitions using the “Clean” command and the Diskpart tool can be one way to solve problems. This tool will fix errors if the device cannot be formatted or its size is determined incorrectly.

  1. Run command line on behalf of administrator.
  2. Run command DISKPART.
  3. Display a list of drives with the command LIST DISK and determine the disk number to be restored.
  4. Select the required disk: SELECT DISK#(instead of # - enter the disk number).
  5. Run command CLEAN.
  6. Create a partition on the cleaned disk and format it with the desired file system.

Step 6: Find bad sectors and errors, defragment

Scan the drive for errors and bad sectors and fix them

Run a scan of all hard disk partitions and try to fix any errors found. For this:

  • Open folder "This computer".
  • Right-click on the drive with the error.
  • Select Properties / Service / Verify(In chapter Checking the disk for errors).

As a result of scanning, errors found on the disk can be corrected.

  • Open folder "This computer" and right click on the drive.
  • Select Properties / Service / Optimize(In chapter Disk optimization and defragmentation).
  • Select the drive you want to optimize and click Optimize.

Step 7: Transcend External Drive Repair

There are several solutions for backing up data:

  1. Built-in operating system applications. Microsoft Windows provides data backup methods that involve storing files and data on external or built-in storage media. All modern versions of Windows already include the ability to back up essential files or the entire hard drive if necessary. The features provided by Windows are complete and stand-alone, and are designed to ensure that you do not need to use third-party services or programs.
  2. Copying data manually. You can always use the old proven way to back up data - manually copying data to an external storage medium. This is long, but if you work with a small amount of data, this solution may be quite acceptable for you.
  3. Online services. Recently, the most modern way of backing up data has become increasingly popular - these are numerous online services. Companies that provide online backup of your files. A small background application installed on the computer creates copies of the necessary data and saves them on a remote server. However, the volumes provided by such companies for storing your files in the free version do not allow them to be used as a comprehensive solution. Often the space offered for backing up data does not exceed 10 GB, so there is no need to talk about creating a backup copy of the entire hard drive. Such services are rather aimed at backing up a separate number of files.
  4. Create a disk image. This is the most complete data backup solution for advanced users. This method involves the use of a third-party program to create an image of the entire disk, which can be deployed if necessary on another storage medium. With this solution, you can in a short period of time access all the data that was on the disk at the time of its backup: documents, programs and media files.

We receive quite a lot of requests to recover data from a Transcend hard drive. It must be said right away that there are no such hard drives! Transcend is very well known. It is one of the largest manufacturers of a wide range of flash drives: ordinary computer flash drives, memory cards for cameras in formats from microSD to Compact Flash. But this company does not produce hard drives themselves. In principle, there is nothing wrong with this. We'll explain why below.

How a Transcend external hard drive is made.

Frame

Let's say a few words about the design of this drive. Structurally HDD Transcend performed quite well. The plastic container for the hard drive is placed in a rubber case. Compared to external HDDs from other manufacturers, such as Western Digital (WD) or Seagate (ST), which have a conventional plastic outer case, it is very firmly held in the hands, practically eliminating slipping. The rubberized body does not slip on the table, significantly reducing the risk of falling during work. Inside the plastic container there is another rubber gasket, which is located between the container and the hard drive itself.

Transcend hard drive inside

The external case shown in the photo can be easily disassembled and removing the hard drive from it is not a big problem.

Inside the case there is a USB / SATA controller board and a regular 2.5 "HDD. The volumes can be very different, depending on the buyer's desire. The presence of an S-ATA connector allows you to carry out a full diagnostics of the drive and communicate with it using technological commands. According to our statistics, more often all inside is a Samsung HDD.In most cases, data recovery from hard drives of this manufacturer is successful.
