Scrambled digital terrestrial television channels. How to set up digital television on your TV

To receive a modern digital signal on an analog TV, you need an antenna and, called a digital receiver or decoder. There are certain requirements for both the antenna and the set-top box, by observing which you can get a modern, high-quality picture and the same sound.

Prefix

There is no need to rush into purchasing this device if digital television broadcasting has not yet been organized in your area. It’s worth waiting until work starts to test the decoder right in the store. A receiver is a compact electronic device that receives a signal from an antenna, then converts it and sends it to a television receiver. When buying a set-top box, first of all, inquire about its compliance with Russian requirements for the CETV network; the device must be optimized for the DVB-T2 broadcast standard, support MPEG4 video signal and Multiple-PLP mode.

But this is only the minimum set: if you expect to accept paid programs, then you need conditional access (in the form of a CAM module), and if you plan to record programs, then the device must have a USB port. It would be useful for the set-top box to receive channels broadcast in HD mode, i.e. high definition. Additional features of the set-top box include the presence of a received signal strength indicator, which helps determine the most optimal antenna position.

Antenna

This may be absent altogether if reception is carried out in close proximity to a powerful television transmitter. But this option is not available to all citizens, so an antenna is still necessary. If you live in relative proximity to a TV tower, you can use a regular indoor antenna: if your TV confidently received an analog signal, then it will also receive a digital signal well. The main requirement for an outdoor antenna is reliable reception in the UHF (UHF) range. Owners of a private house can install an antenna-receiving device on the roof; residents of multi-story city buildings can use a balcony or try to achieve reliable reception by mounting the antenna on the wall or even the ceiling.

If you live in areas of poor TV signal reception, you must install an external antenna on a mast, for which it is recommended to use a metal pipe with a diameter of at least 4 cm (do not forget about grounding). Its height is determined by the remoteness of the television tower and the terrain. The use of television amplifiers that also operate in analogue broadcasting also gives good results.

Digital television broadcasting is deployed almost throughout the country - in most regions it is carried out in the DVB-T2 standard, and only in a few, where broadcasting began in 2008-2011, the DVB-T standard is still used. But in the very near future there will be a change in the standard in these regions.

A standard is a standard, but what does the transition of broadcasting to a digital format mean for an ordinary person? The most important thing is a huge leap in the quality of reception and the variety of television programs. This may seem strange to a resident of a large city, but less than a third of the Russian population can watch more than two terrestrial television channels in analogue format. Reception of one digital television package allows you to immediately increase the number of received programs to 10, and later to 20-30 with the ability to receive high-definition television.

What can you watch? Multiplexes

Multiplex is a package of television and radio channels broadcast by one transmitter. The entire multiplex usually occupies the bandwidth of one television frequency channel, but contains up to ten television programs and several radio stations. As a rule, the data stream of a multiplex contains a program guide for each television channel.

As of December 2013, two multiplexes have been approved in Russia - RTRS-1 and RTRS-2 (the first and second multiplex, respectively). The first multiplex is mandatory for broadcasting in all types of digital terrestrial, cable and satellite television throughout Russia. The composition of packages (multiplexes) is presented below:

"RTRS-1" (first multiplex)

  • "Channel One"
  • "Russia 1"
  • "Match TV"
  • "NTV"
  • "Channel Five"
  • "Russia K"
  • "Russia 24"
  • "Carousel"
  • "Public Television of Russia"
  • "TV Center"
  • radio "Radio Russia"
  • radio "Mayak"
  • radio "Vesti FM"

"RTRS-2" (second multiplex)

  • "REN TV"
  • "SAVED"
  • "STS"
  • "Home"
  • "TV3"
  • "Friday"
  • "Star"
  • "World"
  • "TNT"
  • "Muz-TV"

What equipment is needed to receive digital TV?

You need to understand that switching to digital may require purchasing additional equipment or a new TV. Everything is very similar to the launch of color TV broadcasting: the black-and-white TV continued to receive a “color signal,” but it could no longer display color on its screen. And if you wanted to see a color “picture,” you had to buy a color TV.

Digital television is broadcast in the UHF range and in most cases does not require replacing the receiving antenna. Let's look at the necessary steps, depending on the existing antenna:

MV antenna

The antenna will need to be replaced with a UHF band antenna. The best choice would be to purchase an antenna optimized for digital television reception.

UHF antenna

No antenna replacement required. The antenna is already optimal for receiving digital TV.

All-wave antenna

No antenna replacement required. This antenna has the ability to receive digital TV.

The above is true for both outdoor antennas and indoor ones - if your indoor antenna confidently “catch” analogue UHF channels, then digital television will be received without problems.

The issue with the TV itself is somewhat more complicated and variable: the country has a huge fleet of TV receivers of completely different ages and capabilities. Moreover, the age of the TV is not always decisive for the ability to receive digital television in the DVB-T2 format. Below are the most typical situations:

Modern LCD (LCD, LED) TV equipped with a built-in DVB-T2 module

To receive digital TV in the DVB-T2 standard, it is necessary and sufficient to enable this function in the TV menu. After this, it will switch to receiving digital multiplexes (packages).

Modern LCD (LCD, LED) TV, equipped with or without a built-in DVB-T module

Such a TV will not be able to independently receive broadcasts in DVB-T2 format. Even if such a TV has a module for receiving a digital signal of DVB-T, DVB-C or DVB-S standards. To watch digital TV, you will need to purchase a digital receiver (receiver), which can be connected via HDMI, RCA or SCART connectors on your TV. In this case, the antenna switches from the TV to the digital receiver.

Previous generation TV equipped with RCA or SCART connectors

To watch digital TV, you will need to purchase a digital receiver (receiver), which can be connected via the RCA or SCART connectors of your TV. In this case, the antenna switches from the TV to the digital receiver.

Previous generation TV with only an antenna connector

Unfortunately, there is no way to watch digital programs on such a TV. You will have to replace it with a modern LCD TV; the most optimal would be to have a built-in module for receiving a digital signal of the DVB-T2 standard.

The installation of a TV antenna, available to all TV viewers, allows you to receive digital television in Moscow; broadcasting is carried out in the dvb-t2 standard. The analogue broadcast system is becoming a thing of the past and will be completely switched off in the near future. The reason for this is the improvement of radio frequency technologies. If previously no more than 18 programs were broadcast from the Ostankino tower, then in 2016 there are already 30. The channels operate digitally and are grouped in groups of 10 on one frequency, this package is called “Multiplex”.

  1. First multiplex Ostankino TVK 30, frequency 546 MHz
  2. Second multiplex Ostankino TVK 24, frequency 498 MHz
  3. Test third multiplex Ostankino TVK 34, frequency 578 MHz

For local repeaters, broadcast parameters may differ. The Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation provides for the widespread launch of twenty federal, free channels. You will find towers under construction and operating in the Moscow region in the right block of the current page.

Advantages of terrestrial digital television

Maintenance free

A television installed in compliance with all rules will serve for a long time without service maintenance.

A large number of TVs can be connected to one antenna when the cable is laid in series.

Digital Quality

Image without interference and distortion with the DVB-T2 digital transmission system and high-definition support.

No monthly fee

Free television shows all federal channels, 20 programs have been officially launched and 10 are in test mode.

Reception of digital television in Moscow is possible on any televisions, with the difference that for older models you will need a dvb-t2 receiver. This is a small set-top box with a separate remote control through which it is controlled. The signal from the antenna is supplied to the receiver, and you can connect it to the TV using a “tulips” or “scart” cord. How to set up the receiver is described in the user manual. In new types of flat TV panels, the tuner is already built-in, look for dvb-t2 in the characteristics and try to find digital channels. If it doesn’t work, check the cable connection and find out if you have regular cable TV in your home.

The main part of the equipment set is the antenna; the quality of terrestrial television reception depends on its power. For Moscow, an antenna with an average gain is usually sufficient. In some cases, a more powerful option is required. This happens when a country cottage, private house or cottage is located in a lowland and surrounded by tall trees. The distance to the tower also plays an important role. Installation is desirable in the highest part of the house; installation is carried out on a small bracket or steel mast. The price of the work will vary depending on the complexity; the exact cost is calculated by the master according to the standard price list, taking into account current discounts and promotions. The connection is made to the existing cabling using an amplifier and dividers. The master can arrive the very next day after receiving the order.

Digital terrestrial television

The main difference between digital terrestrial channels and analogue ones is the high quality of digital channels (no noise, interference and repetitions) and a clearer picture - high noise immunity. I install antennas on the window in houses, on the side opposite from the Ostankino Tower. The data transfer protocol is designed so that the reflected signal is received without unnecessary data and you see an excellent quality picture.

Digital television DVB-T2 is ideal for large LCD and plasma TVs.

The list of digital terrestrial television channels in Moscow now includes 20 channels.

HOW TO WATCH DIGITAL TERRESTRIAL CHANNELS?

To receive digital terrestrial channels in Moscow and the region, the TV must have a built-in digital tuner of the DVB-T2 standard (see technical specifications of the TV). Otherwise, you will have to buy an additional DVB-T2 receiver, which connects to any TV via HDMI or composite (tulips or scart) input.

Digital reception ethereal channels is carried out to an external UHF antenna. In your apartment building cable home network (Akado, OnLime, etc.), most likely these digital TV channels will be on other (cable) TV frequencies that do not coincide with the terrestrial frequencies given in the table. You need to start auto-search for channels.

If the distance from the transmitter (Ostankino TV tower in Moscow and Moscow region) to the TV is less than or about 20 km, then reception is possible with an indoor UHF antenna. Otherwise, you will have to use an external UHF antenna, possibly with an amplifier. It all depends on the installation height of your antenna and the distance to the TV tower. With a good outdoor UHF antenna with a low-noise amplifier, reception of digital terrestrial channels is possible at a distance of more than 80 km from the television tower.

TV- tuners are special devices that allow you to view cable or broadcast television on a personal computer. Currently, you can see many types of TV tuners on sale, but the setup for all of them is almost the same.

You will need

  • - TV tuner;
  • - driver;
  • - a program for viewing a TV signal.

Instructions

Select TV tuner. This stage is perhaps the most important in setting up the device. The fact is that not all TV tuners may be suitable for your computer, especially if they do not have their own video viewing program. There is a device with an internal board, connected through a free Ethernet port on the router, and connected to a USB or IEEE 1394 port on the computer. Determine which type is suitable for your PC or laptop. If necessary, purchase a special adapter.

Connect the TV tuner to your computer or laptop. This step depends on what type of device you purchased. If you doubt your actions, read the operating instructions that should come with the TV tuner. Check that the connectors are connected correctly.

Turn on your computer or laptop and insert the driver disk that came with the TV tuner into the drive. If there is no such disk, then you can download the necessary files on the Internet on the device manufacturer’s website. If you have the Windows 7 operating system installed, then in some cases it will prompt you to download the required updates.

Install software to watch TV channels. It is on the disc sold with the TV tuner. If you don’t have one, you can configure your device for Windows Media Center or download a suitable viewer on the Internet. In the first case, you need to check the compatibility of the TV signal transmitted by the TV tuner and received by Windows Media Center. You can find similar information on the website http://windows.microsoft.com/.

Connect the TV tuner to your cable TV or antenna. Launch the program to receive a TV signal and press the channel scan button. If you completed all the previous steps correctly, a list of television channels will appear. Otherwise, check that the TV tuner is connected correctly.
