Hp pavilion 15 notebook pc ram. Take advantage of convenient connectivity options

We have already noted that understanding the HP laptop classification system, finding at least some logic in the mysterious numbers and letters appearing in the model names is by no means a trivial task. Therefore, we will not guess what exactly is hidden behind the abbreviation "p159nr" and immediately get to the point. We only note that the HP Pavilion 15-p159nr laptop belongs to the category of inexpensive models of 15-inch laptops for the home. Interestingly, finding information about this model on the HP website is not so easy. That is, information about this laptop, but you can’t find it through the catalog of HP Pavilion series laptop models. Nevertheless, the HP Pavilion 15-p159nr has been on the Russian market for a long time.

Completion and packaging

The HP Pavilion 15-p159nr comes in a plain, rather nondescript cardboard box.

The delivery set is minimal. In addition to the laptop itself, a quick setup guide and a 65W (19.5V; 3.33A) power adapter are included.

The heart of the HP Pavilion 15-p159nr notebook is a dual-core processor. This processor has a nominal clock speed of 1.7 GHz, which can be boosted up to 2.7 GHz with Turbo Boost. Its L3 cache size is 3MB and power consumption is 15W.

The Intel Core i5-4210U processor has an integrated Intel HD Graphics 4400 graphics core that runs at a nominal frequency of 200 MHz and a maximum core frequency of 1 GHz (in Turbo Boost mode).

In addition to the processor graphics core, the laptop also has a discrete Nvidia GeForce 840M video card with 2 GB of DDR3 memory.

HP Pavilion 15-p159nr is equipped with 4 GB DDR3L-1600 RAM. Moreover, only one memory module is installed, so that the memory operates in single-channel mode. Note that in principle the laptop supports up to 16 GB of memory, and there are two SO-DIMM slots on the motherboard, however, it is very difficult to install another memory module in a free slot due to the design features of the laptop. The fact is that if you remove the bottom panel of the case, you will not be able to access the memory modules. To do this, you will also have to remove the motherboard itself, which is quite difficult.

The storage subsystem of this notebook includes a Seagate ST500LT012 2.5" Slim (7mm) 500GB HDD (WDC WD10SPCX-60HWST0).

The laptop also has an optical drive. In our case it was an HP DVDRW DU8A5SHL drive.

The communication capabilities of the notebook are determined by the presence of the Broadcom BCM43142 (802.11b/g/n) wireless network adapter. This wireless adapter also has a built-in Bluetooth 4.0 module.

In addition, the laptop also has a Realtek RTL8139 Ethernet network controller (10/100 Mbps). In general, American manufacturers (Dell, HP) have recently become fashionable to equip inexpensive laptops with Fast Ethernet controllers, rather than the usual Gigabit Ethernet.

The audio subsystem of the HP Pavilion 15-p159nr laptop is based on the Realtek ALC290 HDA codec, and two built-in speakers are used as acoustics. But the audio connector in the laptop is only one, but combined. That is, it can be used both for connecting headphones and for connecting a microphone.

The battery in this notebook is removable and has a capacity of 41.4 Wh (2620 mAh).

It remains to add that the laptop is equipped with a webcam with built-in microphone, which is located above the screen.

Appearance and ergonomics of the case

The body of the HP Pavilion 15-p159nr laptop is made of plastic. The outside color is silver.

The surface of the laptop lid is textured. Fingerprints do not remain on such a surface and it never looks dirty. The traditional HP logo is placed in the center of the laptop lid.

It should be noted that the lid of the laptop lacks rigidity. It bends and bends easily. And with such a deformation, characteristic spots appear on the screen.

The underside of the laptop case is exactly the same silver color as the lid, however, this surface is not textured. This is the usual painted in matte silver plastic. On the bottom surface of the case there are only ventilation grids.

The interior design of the laptop is no longer silver, but black. The surface framing the keyboard and touchpad is made of plastic, which is neither matte nor glossy. It's somewhere between matte and glossy. But the screen frame is made of classic matte plastic.

If we talk about the design flaws of the laptop case, then it is worth noting the sharp edge formed by the working surface and the beveled front end surface. When typing, this is inconvenient because this sharp edge rubs the palms and wrists.

In the upper left corner of the working surface is a single laptop power button. Above the keyboard there is a decorative grid of two speakers.

The keyboard on this laptop is black. But in detail about it, as well as about the touchpad, we will tell further.

The system for attaching the laptop screen to the body consists of two hinges located at the bottom of the screen. This mounting system allows you to deflect the screen itself relative to the plane of the keyboard at an angle of approximately 120 degrees.

The hinge loop has a fairly tight stroke, which allows you to fix the screen in any position.

On the left side of the case there are two USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI connector, an SD memory card slot, an RJ-45 connector, a ventilation grill for the radiator of the cooling system, and a connector for connecting the power adapter.

On the right side of the laptop case there is a USB 2.0 port connector, a combined minijack audio jack (headphones, microphone), a Kensington lock slot and an optical drive tray. In addition, there are also two miniature LED indicators (hard drive activity and power indicator).

Note that all three USB ports are the same color (black), but the USB 3.0 ports are located only on the left side of the case.

Disassembly capabilities

Despite the fact that the bottom panel of the HP Pavilion 15-p159nr notebook can be removed, access to all system components is not so easy. Removing the bottom panel of the case, you can only get to the HDD, wireless module and optical drive. But in order to gain access to the memory modules and the cooling system, you will also have to remove the motherboard, which is very difficult. That is, you can deliver another memory module to the laptop, but you have to tinker.

Input Devices

Keyboard

The HP Pavilion 15-p159nr series notebooks use an island-style keyboard with extended key spacing.

The main keys on the keyboard are 15×15 mm in size. The keys themselves are black, and the letters on them are white and clearly visible. The keyboard is not backlit, but there is a separate NumPad numeric keypad.

The keyboard is slightly recessed relative to the surface of its framing. Moreover, the surface under the keyboard is one with the front surface of the case, and holes are simply made in this surface for each key of the keyboard.

The base under the keyboard is quite rigid. That is, if the keyboard flexes when you press the keys, then it is very insignificant and only when you deliberately press it hard.

In terms of quality, we would rate such a keyboard as good, but not great. Of the pluses, one can note the fact that it is quite quiet and when typing, the keys do not make a clicking sound.

But the minus of the keyboard is that the keys are poorly spring-loaded and the fixation of pressing the key is practically not felt. In addition, the up and down keys are very narrow, which is inconvenient. These two keys take the place of one standard key.

The key layout on this keyboard is standard. The top row of keys traditionally has two functions: either traditional F1-F12, or laptop control functions. By default, the traditional F1-F12 keys work in combination with the Fn function key, and the laptop control keys work directly. However, this mode of operation can be switched in the BIOS.

touchpad

The HP Pavilion 15-p159nr laptop uses a clickpad with simulated keystrokes. The dimensions of the working area of this clickpad are 110×66 mm, which is quite enough for comfortable work.

The touch surface is slightly recessed and almost does not differ in color from the rest of the surface of the front of the case. The sensitivity of the touchpad is not satisfactory.

This clickpad supports the MultiTouch function and, of course, supports multi-touch gestures to control Windows 8.

In general, the clickpad is comfortable and deserves high marks.

Sound path

As already noted, the audio subsystem of the HP Pavilion 15-p159nr transformer laptop is based on the Realtek ALC290 NDA codec, and the laptop itself has two built-in speakers located at the rear of the case and brought up, under the screen.

According to subjective feelings, the acoustics in this laptop is not bad. The maximum volume level is quite sufficient, and when playing music tracks, the sound is rich and without rattling.

To evaluate the output sound path intended for connecting headphones or external acoustics, we resorted to instrumental testing using an external Creative E-MU 0204 USB sound card and the RightMark Audio Analyzer 6.3.0 utility. Testing was conducted for stereo mode, 24-bit/44.1 kHz.

According to the results of testing, the audio path in the HP Pavilion 15-p159nr laptop received a "Good" rating.

The full report with the results of testing in the RMAA 6.3.0 program is placed on a separate page, a brief report is given below.

Screen

The HP Pavilion 15-p159nr uses an AU Optronics AUO33ED TN panel with white LED backlighting. This matrix has a matte finish, and the diagonal size, as already noted, is 15.6 inches. The screen resolution is 1920×1080 pixels.

The matrix in this laptop does not flicker over the entire brightness range, that is, the screen brightness is controlled by changing the brightness level of the LED backlight.

According to our measurements, the maximum brightness level on a white background is 315 cd/m² and the minimum level is 9 cd/m². At the maximum brightness level, the gamma value is 2.69.

The HP Pavilion 15-p159nr LCD color gamut covers 76% sRGB and 55.5% Adobe RGB. The color gamut is 81.6% of sRGB and 56.2% of Adobe RGB. The result is pretty mediocre.

Such a narrow color gamut of the screen is explained, among other things, by not very high-quality light filters, which strongly mix the components of the primary colors to each other, which is reflected in the narrowing of the spectrum.

The color temperature of the HP Pavilion 15-p159nr's LCD screen also leaves much to be desired. So, at 100% white, it is approximately 6700 K, but with a decrease in the proportion of white, the color temperature increases. Moreover, in dark colors (when the proportion of white is less than 10%), our spectrophotometer can no longer measure the color temperature correctly.

The increase in the value of the color temperature in the transition from light to dark tones is due to the fact that in the dark areas on the gray scale the proportion of blue color increases greatly. In addition, the proportion of red is underestimated across the entire gray scale. In a word, the primary colors here are not balanced at all.

The color accuracy (delta E) of the HP Pavilion 15-p159nr laptop screen does not exceed 8 across the entire gray scale, which is an acceptable result.

If we talk about the viewing angles of the screen, then they leave much to be desired. When looking at the image at an angle horizontally and vertically, the color is distorted and the contrast drops sharply. In a word, the screen in this laptop is of poor quality.

Work under load and idle

In idle mode, as it should be, the processor frequency in the laptop is 800 MHz (naturally, we are talking about a balanced power consumption scheme), that is, there are no complaints about Intel SpeedStep technology. The processor temperature in this mode is approximately 40 °C.

When loading the processor with the Stress CPU test (AIDA64 Extreme Edition utility - system stability test), which uses integer calculations, the processor frequency is 2.4 GHz (recall that for the Intel Core i5-4210U processor, the maximum frequency in Intel Turbo Boost mode is 2 .7 GHz). The processor temperature in this boot mode increases to 55 °C.

When the processor is loaded with the Stress FPU test, which uses floating point calculations and heats up the processor to a greater extent, the maximum processor frequency drops to 2.2 GHz, and the temperature of its cores increases to 64 ° C.

In the mode of simultaneously loading the processor cores with the Stress FPU test, the graphics core of the processor and the graphics processor with the Stress GPU test, the frequency of the processor cores jumps from 1.2 to 2.3 GHz, and the temperature of its cores is approximately 67 °С.

Memory Subsystem and Storage Subsystem Performance

According to the AIDA64 Cache & Memory Benchmark utility, the write speed to memory is 11341 MB/s, and the read speed is 11242 MB/s. For DDR3-1600 memory (peak bandwidth 12800 MB/s) in single-channel mode, this is a typical result.

To measure HDD performance in an HP Pavilion 15-p159nr laptop, we used several utilities: ATTO Disk Benchmark, CrystalDiskMark and HD Tune Pro.

The ATTO Disk Benchmark utility determines the maximum sequential read and write speed at just under 100 MB / s, which is typical for modern 2.5-inch HDDs.

The CrystalDiskMark utility gives roughly the same results.

Here are the results of testing the RAID array with the HD Tune Pro utility:

Noise level

The noise level was measured in a special sound-absorbing chamber, and the sensitive microphone was positioned relative to the laptop in such a way as to simulate the typical position of the user's head. Notebook HP Pavilion 15-p159nr can be classified as average in terms of noise.

Based on our measurements, the noise level emitted by the notebook at idle is 25 dBA (with a background level of 16 dBA). This is a very low noise level, and it is simply impossible to distinguish it at the background level, that is, to “hear” the laptop in this mode.

In CPU stress mode using the AIDA64 utility, the noise level emitted by the laptop increases to 37 dBA. This is already quite a lot, and at this level of noise, the laptop will be heard even during the day in a typical office space.

Load scenarioNoise level
idle mode25 dBA
37 dBA

Battery life

We measured the ultrabook's offline operation time according to our method using the iXBT Battery Benchmark v.1.0 script. Recall that we measure battery life at a screen brightness of 100 cd/m². During testing, the power consumption mode was set to "Balanced", and the wireless module was turned off.

So, the test results are as follows:

Load scenarioWorking hours
Video viewing3 hours 54 minutes
Working with text and viewing photos6 hours 35 minutes

It must be stated that the battery life of this laptop is quite average. So it's not small, but it's not big either. The laptop is enough to watch a couple of movies offline or work with office applications for almost the entire working day.

Performance study

To evaluate the performance of the HP Pavilion 15-p159nr laptop, we used our methodology using the iXBT Application Benchmark 2015 and iXBT Game Benchmark 2015 benchmarks. For clarity, we also added to the table the results of testing a 15-inch Dell Inspiron 15 3548-8208 laptop with an Intel Core i5-5200U processor.

The results of testing in the iXBT Application Benchmark 2015 are shown in the table.

So, as you can see from the test results, the HP Pavilion 15-p159nr laptop is 20% inferior to our reference system based on the Intel Core i5-3317U processor in terms of integrated performance. But if we compare laptops Dell Inspiron 15 3548-8208 and HP Pavilion 15-p159nr, then their performance, despite different processors, is almost the same.

In general, the most weak point in the configuration of the HP Pavilion 15-p159nr laptop is the storage subsystem and insufficient RAM. And if, for example, we replace the HDD with an SSD, then the laptop will surpass our reference system in terms of integrated performance. Well, with HDD, the HP Pavilion 15-p159nr laptop occupies an intermediate position between entry-level and mid-level devices.

Now let's look at the test results in games. All gaming tests were performed at a resolution of 1920x1080 and using an Nvidia GeForce 840M GPU. The results of testing in games are shown in the table.

Gaming testMaximum qualityMinimum quality

As you can see from the test results, only with the game settings set to the minimum quality, there are two games that can be played comfortably (with a result of more than 40 FPS). That is, this is absolutely not a gaming solution and, by and large, the Nvidia GeForce 840M video card is not needed in this case, since it is of little use.

conclusions

So, let's summarize. Externally, the HP Pavilion 15-p159nr laptop looks very good. And if you consider that it costs 32 thousand rubles (at the time of the announcement of the article) and has a screen resolution of 1920 × 1080, then you immediately begin to look at this model more closely.

But in fact, everything is not as good as we would like. The screen, of course, has a resolution of 1920 × 1080, and moreover, it is matte, but the screen quality, alas, is so-so. Narrow color gamut, poorly balanced primaries, incorrect color temperature and poor viewing angles. That is the usual cheap TN-matrix.

There are complaints about the design of the laptop. So, the work surface and the front beveled end of the laptop form a sharp edge. It may look good, but from a practical point of view it is very inconvenient. In addition, the lid of the laptop does not have sufficient rigidity and is easily deformed.

Recall also that an independent laptop upgrade is associated with certain difficulties. You can change the HDD or Wi-Fi module, you can even change the optical drive, but getting to the memory slots is quite difficult.

As for the performance of the HP Pavilion 15-p159nr laptop, this is the case when the laptop can be classified as both an entry-level solution and a mid-range solution. That is, in terms of performance, the HP Pavilion 15-p159nr is just on the border between entry-level and mid-range.

If you change the HDD to an SSD and increase the amount of RAM, you can significantly increase the performance of this laptop. But no upgrade, of course, will make this model a gaming one. For games, this solution with an Nvidia GeForce 840M video card is not at all suitable.

The HP Pavilion is a solid "multimedia" laptop that leaves a pleasant impression, even though its relatively inexpensive modification, the HP Pavilion 15-n029sr, got into testing. The main components of this configuration are the AMD A10-5745M processor and AMD Radeon 8670M discrete video. Of course, the processor also has an integrated graphics core, which can be paired with an external one.

In addition, "under the hood" there are 8 GB of RAM and a 1 TB hard drive. Quite a worthy configuration that will cost not at all space money: in the post-Soviet space in retail for a laptop, they ask from 24 to 28 thousand rubles at the time of this writing (or 650-800 dollars, if you prefer conventional units).

⇡ Appearance

The design of the HP Pavilion 15 is generally boring - at least by today's standards. The overall picture is slightly enlivened only by the rear part of the case, which rises above the plane of the working surface, in which the connecting loops are “hidden”.

The surface of the lid is glossy. Fortunately, the manufacturer has made it silver instead of black, so fingerprints, dust and scratches on it are not too noticeable. The masking of small imperfections works especially well thanks to the texture of small white dots. On closer inspection, these dots look a little “cheap”, but once you take a step away from the laptop and appreciate its appearance from such a distance, the texture begins to add a certain charm to the laptop.

Inside - the kingdom of gloss. The workspace, the chiclet keyboard backing, and even the bezel around the display are all glossy. The work area also has a pattern of gray dots, similar to that used in the design of the lid. And here it also works: thanks to this trick, fingerprints are not striking. But the keyboard substrate and the frame are devoid of texture - and on these surfaces, the “fingers” stand out very much.

The laptop has a keyboard with an additional numeric keypad, which greatly facilitates the input of numerical information. There are almost no compressed letter keys, even the long-suffering [ё] has not been cut. In fact, only two arrow keys turned out to be narrowed in height - “up” and “down”. But still, there are misses: for example, the key turned out to be too short, so when blindly typing, the finger continually falls on. With very strong pressure on any of the center keys, the base of the keyboard flexes slightly. However, with normal typing, the lack of rigidity of the keyboard block is almost not manifested. In general, the keyboard turned out to be pleasant - the key travel is of medium hardness, the actuation moment is felt clearly, and the noise when pressed is low.

The touchpad is slightly recessed inside the case and dotted with embossed dots that make it easy to determine its boundaries by touch. The manipulator keys are dedicated, which is good in itself. In additional pluses, you can write down their large size. But a very hard move and a loud click when triggered pulls on a solid minus.

The left side of the laptop is the most loaded. There is a power supply socket, supplemented by an indicator, a slot for a security lock, an Ethernet port, a ventilation grill, an HDMI port, a pair of USB 3.0, and a memory card reader.

On the right side surface, at first glance, there is more than enough free space, but this impression is misleading, because the optical drive takes up a lot of space. There is also a USB 2.0 port, a combo audio jack for connecting headphones and a microphone, and indicators for power and access to the drive. Installing LEDs on the side has already become a good tradition for HP laptops, because with such an arrangement, the LEDs do not distract from work, but if necessary, they are perfectly visible even with the lid closed.

The front side of the case is empty. At the back, only the connecting loops and the battery are visible.

Above the keyboard is a pair of speakers, as well as a power button with an integrated light indicator in the form of an icon, in fact, power. A webcam is installed on the top edge of the display, as well as a pair of microphones.

The bottom of the laptop is flat, it is made of standard black plastic with a rough surface. On the one hand, it collects fingerprints very actively, which are not easy to clean off. On the other hand, this is not at all the part of the laptop that someone will admire.

In terms of upgrade options, the user has access to only one bay, which contains two slots for SO-DIMM memory modules and a slot for a half-height Mini Card form factor wireless adapter. The body rests on four massive legs. Thanks to the use of the right material and the successful shape of the legs, the laptop tenaciously clings to glass and lacquered countertops, and it is not so easy to move it on a regular office table. In general, the probability of pulling the HP Pavilion 15 off the table by catching on the cable connected to it is low.

Among the striking examples of devices for which such characteristics are typical is the HP Pavilion 15. This laptop, according to many modern IT specialists, is universal, sufficiently productive, and easy to use. Thanks to what characteristics does it become possible for the device to meet the indicated criteria? What is the specific design and structure of the hardware components of this laptop?

Model Features

The HP Pavilion 15 is actually a series of devices, but the differences between them come down mainly to regional specifications. Therefore, laptops with different indexes are quite acceptable, one way or another, to consider as one and the same device.

Model HP Pavilion 15 is positioned as an inexpensive device. It is equipped with a 15-inch matte screen that supports a fairly high resolution - 1920 x 1080 pixels. The laptop in question is characterized as a sufficiently productive device. Let's study the features of hardware components that directly affect the speed of the device in more detail.

The HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC comes with Windows 8.1 64-bit. Let us now study the specifics of the noted hardware components of the device in more detail.

Processor Features

As we noted above, the laptop processor - Intel Core i5 - operates at a nominal frequency of 1.7 GHz, but if necessary, this can be increased to 2.7 GHz. This mode of operation of the main microcircuit of the device has an important advantage - at lower frequencies, the chip heats up less, as a result of which the cooling system operates with a lower noise level. The specified processor performance of 2.7 GHz at full load ensures that the notebook is compatible with popular 3D games, graphics applications, and core Windows programs.

RAM Features

The HP Pavilion 15 has 4 GB of DDR3L RAM. It is noteworthy that the RAM is installed in the device in the form of 1 module. In total, the laptop supports up to 16 GB of RAM. It can be noted that there are SO-DIMM connectors on the motherboard of the device, which makes it possible to install RAM modules compatible with this standard. True, as some IT specialists and users note, it is not easy to install the appropriate microcircuits due to the design of the device - to solve this problem, you need to remove the motherboard.

Appearance

Notebook HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC has a plastic case. Its outer part is silvery. The lid of the laptop has a textured surface. Thanks to this, it becomes quite resistant to pollution. The inner surface of the laptop - under the lid - is black. The screen frame is made of matte plastic. The power button of the device is located at the top of the main working surface of the laptop on the left. Built-in speakers are installed directly above the keyboard. The laptop screen can tilt up to about 120 degrees. According to users, the lid of the device changes its angle with noticeable resistance, so that it can be fixed in any position within the supported tilt angles.

On the left side of the device case there are 2 USB 3.0 slots, an HDMI cable connector, SD and RJ-45 slots, a radiator grill, and a power cord connector. On the right side there is a USB 2.0 slot, a connector for connecting audio devices, and an optical drive. Nearby are LEDs that detect the activity of the hard drive and signal that the laptop is powered on.

Features of disassembling the device

In some cases, the user may need to disassemble the HP Pavilion 15 laptop, for example, in order to install additional RAM modules or replace certain hardware components. This procedure in the case of the device in question has some features. So, for example, if you remove the bottom panel from the laptop, you can access the hard drive, Wi-Fi module, and also the optical drive. RAM chips, in particular, will not be available in this case, as well as, for example, the cooling system of the device. As we noted above, the HP Pavilion 15 motherboard may require a temporary uninstallation to replace memory modules. This procedure is very laborious and can take a long time. However, for an experienced specialist, its implementation is not a problem.

For the user, it can be significant not only how to disassemble the HP Pavilion 15, but also how compatible the new hardware components installed in the laptop can be with those already installed. In particular, with regard to the keyboard of the device - in some cases, models adapted for some modifications are not suitable for other versions of the device. This may be due to different cables, as well as a different location of the attachment points.

Keyboard and touchpad

A feature of the laptop model under consideration is the presence of a keyboard with an increased distance between the buttons. They have a size of 15 x 15 mm. The color of the keys is black, the letters are white. The keyboard is not equipped with a backlight, however, according to many users, there is usually no urgent need for it. There is a separate block NumPad. There are traditional F1-F12, which can be used in combination with the Fn button. If necessary, through the HP Pavilion 15 BIOS, you can additionally configure the device's keyboard.

The touchpad installed on the laptop has a size of 110 x 66 mm. It implements an imitation of clicking on the mouse buttons. Users and IT-specialists characterize the touchpad of the laptop in question as sufficiently sensitive and comfortable to use. It can be noted that the corresponding hardware component supports the Multitouch mode, as well as gestures adapted to control the Windows 8 operating system.

Sound

The main hardware component of the device responsible for sound reproduction is the Realtek ALC290 audio card. The laptop is equipped with two speakers, which are located in the back of the case. Users and experts characterize the sound reproduced by the laptop as sufficiently rich and loud. It can be noted that the device showed good results in terms of the function under consideration during testing with the RightMark Audio Analyzer program in version 6.3.0.

Display

The HP Pavilion 15 Notebook is equipped with a display that uses a TN type matrix with LED backlighting based on white elements. According to users and IT-specialists, the screen functions without failures, it is sufficiently bright - 315 cd / sq. m. The gamma index is 2.69 at maximum display brightness. The color gamut is about 81.6% of sRGB. The color temperature of the display is about 6700 K. With a decrease in the intensity of white reproduction, the corresponding figure increases. The color accuracy of the laptop display is about 8 in correlation with the gray scale.

HDD

As we noted above, the device in question is equipped with a 500 GB hard drive. It will be useful to consider how productive the hard drive installed in the HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC is. Users and experts have used solutions such as ATTO Disk Benchmark, HD Tune Pro, and CrystalDiskMark to test the relevant performance of the device. Using this set of software, you can carry out a comprehensive measurement of the performance of the considered hardware component.

So, the first utility mentioned above is designed to determine the maximum speed of the hard drive. Its use showed that the corresponding hardware component of the laptop is capable of writing and reading data at a speed slightly below 100 Mb / s. Using the CrystalDiskMark program, as noted by IT specialists, is accompanied by the same results of testing the performance of the hard drive installed in the device in question.

Offline work

The battery installed in the HP Pavilion 15 laptop is capable of providing a sufficiently long battery life of the device. If the device operates in video playback mode, then the battery lasts for about 4 hours.

If the laptop is used for word processing, then the corresponding figure can be about 6 hours and 40 minutes. IT-specialists characterize these indicators as quite consistent with the results of laptops in the price segment to which the device in question belongs.

Performance

Let's now examine the key performance indicators of the device in question. Modern laptops are most often tested in two ways - using synthetic tests, as well as in the process of running computer games. Regarding both methods of identifying laptop performance indicators, when using popular benchmark programs, as well as common games, the device shows results that are approximately in the middle between those produced by budget devices, as well as those that belong to the average price range. Thus, we can talk about the versatility of the HP Pavilion 15. The characteristics of the device make it possible to use it as a tool for solving everyday user tasks or for gaming purposes, unless, of course, we are talking about the need to run the latest “heavy” games on a laptop.

Summary

So, what conclusions can we draw by examining the main features of the laptop?

Among the unconditional positive aspects of the device:

  • high-performance processor;
  • sufficiently capacious battery;
  • high-tech sound subsystem;
  • productive graphics chip;
  • high screen resolution;
  • support for basic communication standards;
  • convenient and functional touchpad;
  • good performance in both games and applications.

Among the shortcomings of the laptop:

  • outdated screen matrix manufacturing technology - TN, which predetermines very average color gamut and small viewing angles;
  • the difficulty of accessing some hardware components, in particular RAM, for the purpose of replacement or diagnostics.

Thus, if the user does not plan to run modern games on the laptop that require particularly high performance from the video card, then it is quite possible to purchase an HP Pavilion 15 laptop. custom tasks and run undemanding games.

Previously, gaming laptops could easily be distinguished from other devices by the thickness of the case and the howl of the cooling system. Today's realities make it possible to complete a good "stuffing" in some budget model and put it on the counter at a quite democratic price.

Let's try to figure out how things are with the Pavilion series from a well-known brand using the example of a very remarkable gadget - HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC-Gaming. Consider the main characteristics of the model and the features of the device, taking into account the opinions of experts and reviews of ordinary laptop owners.

Design

The color difference is a very important thing for gadgets of this kind, so there were no external differentiations between the "civilian and sports" models of the brand. Black as night case with a matte finish is crowned with a slightly prominent company logo. The HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC-Gaming workspace features a stylish bright green backlight.

As for the appearance, body materials and overall dimensions, in this regard, the laptop is very good. If we compare it with a similar fellow of the same segment GL552JX from Asus, we will see that the latter is much thicker, heavier and made of some dubious material. While the HP Pavilion 15 PC-Gaming has a tactilely pleasant to the touch case, which is difficult to leave fingerprints. In addition, the cover looks solid and securely fixed in any position convenient for the user.

Of course, a 135-degree opening is not the most outstanding value, so using the device on the road is not very convenient: the screen looks straight into your chest, and the viewing angles are not enough for normal work from your knees.

Interfaces

As for the connectors and interfaces, there is nothing to complain about - everything is there and is in its place, so you can connect almost any peripheral. Unlike conventional models from this line, the HP Pavilion 15 Notebook with the “gaming” prefix is equipped with an optical drive on the left side.

And the point here is not even that such an accessory is generally unnecessary today, just the ventilation grill has moved from the left side to the right, and now when you play, your brush is constantly blown over by a stream of hot air. The owners' reviews are full of phrases of indignation about this: a solid brand made such a serious design mistake in an expensive model.

Access to the inside of the laptop

As for upgrading the HP Pavilion 15 (the characteristics of the model allow it), this is a rather troublesome undertaking. A removable battery is, of course, a pleasant moment, but in order to put another hard drive or add RAM sticks, you have to disassemble the entire bottom of the device, unscrewing numerous screws. And this is not all the nuances, then you will need to pry off the keyboard, turn the gadget face down several times and listen to the latches.

This occupation is far from for the faint of heart, especially since behind all these difficult procedures there is a risk of damage to the case and internal components. Users raised this problem of upgrading the device more than once in their reviews, scolding the company's engineers for such a serious “protection” on the HP Pavilion 15.

Display

The screen specifications are good, but for the standard models of the series, and they are clearly not suitable for the gaming version. The laptop is equipped with an already middle-aged matrix, which is equipped with budget gadgets - AU Optronics. Its technical capabilities were outdated last year.

The output image is not bright enough, with glossy highlights and mediocre color reproduction. A very modest screen resolution of 1366 by 768 pixels also suffers from poor viewing angles. By and large, the manufacturer transferred the display from a laptop worth 20,000 rubles to a gadget with a powerful “stuffing”, but already 4 times more expensive. As a result, it turned out to be a high-performance, but inferior HP Pavilion 15. Reviews from the owners have repeatedly noted this deplorable moment with an outdated matrix, so the company recently released a variable model with Full HD-scan, where graphic characteristics were noticeably improved. The screen at the same time for some reason remained the same glossy, but the rest of the problematic moments were excluded.

Sound

Hewlett-Packard recently changed its main supplier of laptop audio systems. Previously, Beats Audio was a partner, and today the venerable Bang & Olufsen has taken its place.

It would seem that this is the solution to many problems, but the specific slots for acoustics and the B&O brand badge do not impress as it should for this level. Of course, the speakers are trying with might and main: the sound is loud, without cacophonies, but only with some kind of toxic admixture. The only way out in this case is to uncheck the “B&O Play” function, which is set by default, and enjoy, albeit not so loud, but high-quality sound without any extremes.

As for working with the headset, the HP Pavilion 15 has no problems here: everything is clear, on a level and without extraneous noise. Judging by user reviews, most of them prefer to connect external audio systems (even the same B & O) or use high-quality headphones.

Input Devices

Notebook HP Pavilion 15 is equipped with a very sensible keyboard and the same competent touchpad. There were no critical problems with management: you quickly get used to the working area, and after a few minutes it becomes like a native.

During operation, the keys do not slip, and the matte finish protects them from fingerprints and dust. Judging by the reviews, the click cannot be called truly gaming, but the clarity is still impressive. The green backlight looks very nice, especially at night. The only omission of the manufacturer is the lack of its adjustment.

Among the minor shortcomings of the HP Pavilion 15, one can note the lack of a touchpad disable function (it is very difficult to play in stealth mode) and it is not clear why the keys F1-F12 have been converted for multimedia tasks.

The touchpad can be called average in sensitivity: it is impossible to single out any serious disadvantages, but it is still far from the level of MacBooks and Ultrabooks.

Performance

Notebook HP Pavilion 15 is equipped with a modern processor from "Intel" of the latest generation - Core i7. There is clearly not enough RAM on board - only 8 GB, so it's better to take care of buying another bar right away.

As for the graphics component, the HP Pavilion 15 pleasantly surprises. The powerful GTX 950M chip with 4 GB of GDDR3 memory makes itself felt: all modern games run without any brakes at maximum settings. Many owners in their reviews correctly notice that it is better to have GDDR5 memory with 2 GB than GDDR3 with four, but for a matrix with such a resolution, the screen will be too much. By and large, it turns out that the “stuffing” is working with might and main, and the picture, due to the outdated matrix, simply cannot fully realize itself.

If you are lucky enough to become the owner of an improved display with Full HD-scan, then the graphics settings will already need to be reset to medium in order to comfortably play.

The Winchester cannot boast of anything special - an ordinary fast SSD-class disk with typical characteristics.

Games in 1366 x 768 resolution at high settings (FPS):

  • The Witcher 32 - 32.
  • Crysis 3 - 64.
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 - 41.
  • "GTA 5" - 61.

Offline work

Long battery life when watching high-definition video is one of the main marketing ploys at presentations of such devices. If we compare our respondent with the closest competitors in the face of GL552JX from Asus and V-Nitro from Acer, then a 40% increase in time without a network is an excellent result. Such an enviable autonomy was achieved due to the introduction of hardware acceleration in a new generation of "Intel" processors, which cannot but rejoice.

Naturally, in the case of games, this figure is noticeably smaller, and ranges from 8-10% growth. The difference between 1 hour 30 minutes (full CPU usage) and 1:15 may seem ridiculous to many, but nevertheless, the fact is that the gaming Pavilion is ahead of its competitors in terms of battery life.

As for the opinions of the owners of the device, judging by the reviews, users did not notice a tangible difference, especially since they run serious games on a network cord, and this indicator is far from critical for real gamers.

Estimated price - from 70 to 90 thousand rubles.
