How to distribute internet from Samsung A3. How to distribute Wi-Fi from your phone to your laptop and not get into big money

In this short instruction I will show you how you can share the Internet via Wi-Fi from a Samsung phone. I had the opportunity to write instructions using the example of a Samsung Galaxy J5 smartphone, with the new Android 7.0 Nougat system already installed. The same as on Samsung Galaxy S8 and other models. I think this article will be relevant for a long time and will be useful to many. In fact, setting up the Hotspot and tethering feature on Android 7.0 is very simple, just like on other versions and devices. But many users still have questions about this function.

We will distribute mobile Internet via Wi-Fi network to other devices. It will be possible to connect other smartphones, laptops, TVs and other devices. We will have a Samsung phone as a router. In the “Access point and modem” settings you can also distribute the Internet via Bluetooth and even via a USB cable. Via Bluetooth is not very relevant now, but via cable it might come in handy. For example, if you need Internet on a desktop computer that does not have . You can use your phone as a wired modem to access the Internet through your mobile operator.

Pay attention! Since we will be distributing mobile Internet, I advise you to clarify the terms of your tariff plan. What is your megabyte limit and what is the fee over the limit. Devices connected to the hotspot may siphon all traffic and additional charges may apply.

Some operators block the distribution of the Internet to other devices. Therefore, there is an option that it may not be possible to share the Internet.

Let's start setting up the access point.

Internet distribution via Wi-Fi from a Samsung phone

Open the top curtain. If your mobile Internet is disabled, then turn on "Mobile data" and go to settings. In settings, open the "Connections" section.

Next, open the “Access point and modem” section. We turn on Wi-Fi distribution with the switch opposite the “Mobile access point” item. The status "Enabled" should appear. If you have Wi-Fi turned on, the phone will prompt you to turn it off.

If you noticed, there is an option to activate Bluetooth modem and USB modem.

Our Samsung already distributes a Wi-Fi network to which we can connect our devices. By default, the smartphone itself sets the network name (AndroidAP) and password. To view and change them, as well as view the list of connected devices, just click on the “Mobile access point” item itself.

The network name and password can be changed if desired. Just click on them and change. The password must be at least 8 characters long and the network name must be in English letters.

I connected my Windows 10 laptop to the Wi-Fi network provided by the Samsung Galaxy J5. The device immediately appeared in the list of connected devices. If you click on it, you can see some information, or change the device name.

In my case, the Internet on my laptop via a Samsung smartphone worked immediately and without problems. In the screenshots above, you probably noticed that I only get 2G (EDGE). Of course, using such Internet on a computer is not very pleasant. But now there is very good 3G/4G coverage, and everything flies there. Even if you distribute the Internet to several devices at the same time.

If you plan to use the mobile hotspot function somewhere outdoors, then I advise you to take a power bank with you, since mobile Internet paired with an access point will very quickly drain the battery of your smartphone. I also advise you to disable this function when you do not need it. Well, keep an eye on your traffic consumption and the terms of your tariff plan. So as not to receive a “terrible” bill for mobile Internet later.

Leave all questions and suggestions in the comments. Best wishes!

Constant improvement in the quality of coverage of 3G and 4G networks allows you to comfortably watch videos and quickly load pages not only on the screen of a smartphone or tablet, but also on a laptop or phone. This is convenient, allowing you to get rid of Wi-Fi networks, and the unlimited or conditionally unlimited traffic tariff plans offered by operators often allow you to completely abandon the landline Internet. At the same time, the issue of distribution to a laptop or personal computer remains relevant, which can be solved quite quickly by switching the Android phone to modem mode. This will provide high-quality and convenient Internet on the road, in a park, in a cafe or other establishment, allowing you to solve some work issues or just have a good rest. This option is very convenient for students, leaders and managers, allowing them to use time more efficiently.

How to enable WiFi distribution on Android

Most modern smartphones or tablets work under this mobile system. The OS shell may differ slightly depending on the brand of the gadget, but the principle of operation is similar, so it is enough to consider setting up the distribution of Internet access using a Samsung phone. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Go to your phone's settings and click on the "Network connections" field, where the "Other networks" or "More" section is located.
  • Open the “Modem and Access Point” menu (it may also be called “Modem Mode”) and launch “Portable Access Point”, confirming the action if necessary. Please note that at this moment the smartphone or tablet’s access to the Internet via Wi-Fi is disabled, since the adapter starts working in router mode, so pay attention to this if you have limited mobile traffic.

How to connect to a Wi-Fi network distributed from Android

By default, a smartphone or tablet distributes the Internet on a network called AndroidAP. To connect on a laptop or other gadget, simply select it and enter the password, which can be seen in the network settings. At the same time, in places with large crowds of people, several Android gadgets distributing the Internet can be active at the same time. To make identification easier, we recommend renaming the name of the wireless network and entering a new password in advance. By default, it is generated automatically and is very difficult to remember, which is logical, given the security issues, but you can set your own, which will be easier to remember and pass it on to your loved ones.

After successfully connecting to the network, a message about this will appear on the screen of the Android smartphone from which the Internet is distributed. If this happened unauthorized, then simply turn off the modem mode or mobile data transfer, turn on Wi-Fi access on your smartphone. In this case, access is automatically terminated and the outsider loses connection. You also need to change the active password in the settings, which will also need to be adjusted on your computer, laptop or other terminal device.

What to do if your PC or laptop can't connect via Wi-Fi

If the end device that you want to connect to the Internet via a phone with the Android operating system does not have an adapter for accessing a wireless network, then the above instructions are meaningless. As a rule, we are talking about personal computers connected to the Internet using a wire, and laptops with a faulty adapter. In this case, there are two options to solve the problem:

  • installation of an external adapter, after connecting which the above instructions are followed (it easily connects to a standard connector and does not take up much space);
  • using a different connection type.

Android OS includes alternative tools for connecting with other devices. We are talking about a Bluetooth modem and a USB modem. In the first case, an appropriate adapter is required on the terminal device, after installing which it is enough to follow the instructions mentioned above.

If you want to share the Internet via Bluetooth, then perform the following operations:

  • activate mobile internet on your Android if necessary;
  • open the settings and go to the “Other networks” or “More” section;
  • In the “Modem mode” item, select the “Bluetooth modem” item.

Now all that remains is to connect both devices by searching and adding a new device via Bluetooth. To do this, make your smartphone “visible” and activate the discovery process from your personal computer. Once completed, a passcode will appear on the phone screen and you will be prompted to pair. Then all you have to do is go to the “Devices and Printers” settings on your computer, where you can right-click on the phone icon and activate the connection via an access point. If everything is in order, then you will have access to the Internet, but its speed will be low and highly dependent on the distance of both devices from each other.

A more profitable alternative would be to connect the Internet via USB, since this option guarantees higher speed access to the World Wide Web. To connect using this method, do the following:

  • activate mobile data transfer on your phone;
  • in the network settings, activate the “USB modem” mode;
  • connect your phone to your PC or laptop via USB;
  • In the settings on your PC (laptop), find the local network connection in the list and launch it by right-clicking.

Instead of a conclusion

Of the above methods of distributing the Internet from a mobile phone, the most convenient is the use of Wi-Fi mode. It provides the following benefits:

  • high access speed;
  • the ability to simultaneously connect several users to a smartphone.

In parallel, Wi-Fi, due to its sufficiently large coverage area, allows you to choose the optimal place in an apartment or house where the mobile signal will be maximum, and this is a necessary condition for comfortable access to the Internet due to good speed. In country houses, it is additionally recommended to install repeaters, which will amplify the signal throughout the entire room and will be very inexpensive.

It’s not difficult to distribute wifi from an Android phone, for example, Yota or Samsung, to a computer to get Internet.

This technology is so widespread that you would think that no matter where you go, you will have access to free internet.

But even if this technology is very popular, it is far from universally available.

You may find yourself in situations where you need access to the Internet, but cannot find any WiFi network nearby.

If you encounter this problem, you can use your Android smartphone 5.1, 6.1 or another version with 3G to connect and provide access to the Internet without using cables.

This guide describes the steps required to share the Internet via wifi from an Android phone or smartphone to a computer, laptop or other devices.

This is done by creating a wireless wifi access point on a tablet, smartphone or phone if it supports this interface.

How and when to use a wifi hotspot on an android phone

The number of possible options is large and usually all mobile networks offering mobile communication services also offer the Internet.

Creating an access point allows you to share the data transmission channel from your Android smartphone via Wi-Fi, so that other devices can connect to the Internet through the smartphone.

Of course, sharing your phone's connection may come with some additional costs.
