Stickers for Windows 10. Sticky Notes for Windows - notes on your desktop

A monitor filled with sticky notes is a common sight for many users. If a person spends the lion's share of time in front of a computer, then it is quite natural that he places reminders right at his workplace. However, starting with Windows 10, such notes can be made directly on the PC using the standard built-in service. The Notes program on Windows 10 allows you to create an unlimited number of notes, edit them, format text, create lists or quick notes. This service is convenient and easy to use, but is in little demand due to the fact that it is practically unknown.

How to find the Notes service?

You can create a note on the Windows 10 desktop through the service by launching it through the “Start” button, which in the 10th version of the OS took on the appearance of the company logo. In the start menu you need to find the “Standard” category in the “Programs” subdirectory, where the “Notes” service will be. In later versions of Windows 10, the program changed its name to Sticky Notes and is now located in the root directory of the Start menu. In any case, when you click on the program icon, a yellow sticker will appear on the desktop; after filling it out, the number of notes can be multiplied and the information formatted.

Application functionality

The user can change the size and color of the sticker by dragging the edge of the note or selecting the corresponding item in the menu with the right mouse button. In later versions, Notes received a toolbar on the Windows 10 desktop that contains all the functions. But some users continue to use hotkeys because it's faster and easier. Some “Notes” hotkeys were adopted from Microsoft Office. So, for example, bold selection can be made by pressing Ctrl + B, italics - Ctrl + I. To create, you need to press Ctrl + Shift + L.

The sticker can be removed if it has already lost its relevance. After the stickers are deleted, the application must be restarted, otherwise the service will simply close. You can close the service using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + D. Notes on the Windows 10 desktop appeared only a few versions of the OS ago, but have already established themselves as a popular service, which is why their updates do not stop. The relatively simple and accessible program turned out to be very useful, so its functionality is expanding.

Analogues on the Internet

There are many variations of the Notes program available online. They often differ from the original by having more extensive customization and authoring functions, for example, grouping identical stickers into separate subcategories. Third-party services are limited by these innovations, which is why replacing a simple and understandable licensed copy with something new is counterproductive. Most analogues, to one degree or another, use the original Windows version as a basis. The names of the programs are also not very variable, most of them revolve around “stickers”, so they are not difficult to find.

Can sticky notes be used as an analogue to regular notes? Yes, quite, the service allows you to create reminders where a person works, that is, right on the computer. The user can sort, rank and customize them, which is difficult to do with ordinary notes; moreover, notes on a computer do not create a mess and chaos on a real desktop.

One of the best free e-sticker management systems available today. It has good tools for scheduling reminders, a convenient note manager, and supports not only text, but also graphic data types! In addition, the crowning feature of the program is the ability to exchange stickers with other users over the Internet!

The human brain is a unique system! It stores information about the entire life of an individual, but, at the same time, not all of it is accessible to our consciousness... The process of forgetting is responsible for the availability of certain knowledge. Moreover, we can forget everything: starting with memories of our childhood, and ending with: “What did I eat for breakfast today?” :).

Speaking seriously, few people can boast of excellent memory. In today's dynamic world, it is almost impossible to remember everything, so smart people began to come up with all sorts of tricks that allow them to remember important matters at the right time.

One of these inventions was stickers. A simple piece of paper, stuck in time, for example, on a computer monitor, can quite successfully combat “forgetfulness.”

However, regular stickers also have their drawbacks. So, for example, if there are too many of them, then sometimes it can be difficult to find exactly the record we need at the moment. And aesthetically they are not very acceptable. In addition, many of them, after removal, leave traces of glue on the surface (or even don’t want to come off at all :)).

And since stickers are very popular with ordinary people who often work with a PC, the large programming fraternity decided to implement their own version of virtual sticky notes! And today I will introduce you to one of these developments, which is simply called Stickies.

Comparison with a paid analogue

Stickies allows you to quickly create and conveniently manage many virtual stickers, the appearance and content of which you determine yourself! In its capabilities, Stickies is reminiscent of the popular paid utility Power Notes. A comparison of the possibilities is given in the table below:

As you can see, the free version can do everything the commercial version can do. And even more! Unlike its paid counterpart, Stickies can display not only formatted text in notes, but also graphics, and also allows you to exchange stickers with friends via the World Wide Web!

Installation and Russification of the program

To install Stickies, just download the archive with the program from our website and run the installer from it. Just one window will appear in which you can set all the presets:

From the options here, you can choose to install a special library to support hot keys, as well as install for all PC users or only for the administrator. Then everything is standard: the installation path and the ability to launch the program and get help on it after the installation process is completed. When all the options are set as required, click the “Install” button.

Upon completion of the installation (if you did not change the standard settings), the following windows will appear in front of us:

The topmost one (in the screenshot) is the installation status window. It can be closed by clicking the “Finish” button. Below you can see the help window for the program. Unfortunately, there is no Russian-language version, so if you are not very friendly with English, this window must also be closed.

The last window is actually an example of a program sticker, and is a greeting with links to the author’s website. The Stickies icon will also appear in the tray, but more on that. Now the main task is to force the program to change the interface to Russian.

To do this, open the downloaded archive again, find a folder in it called “RUSIFIER” and copy its contents to the folder in which the program is installed (by default: C:\Program Files\Stickies).

After this, just restart Stickies and we will get the Russian-language version of the interface. Similarly, the program can be translated into any of the languages available on the author’s website!

Program main menu interface

Now that Stickies has a Russian-language interface, I suggest taking a closer look at main menu programs. It can be called by right-clicking on the tray icon:

All functions here, as you can see, are divided into 4 (except for the exit button) sections. The first section contains items that allow you to create new notes, the second contains functions for displaying stickers, the third contains additional program features, and the fourth is dedicated to reference materials. We will return to the first section a little later, in the second everything is very clear, but I propose to consider the third now.

Program settings

Specifically, we should be interested in the “Options” item:

By activating this item, we will be taken to a window (see screenshot above), which contains all possible program settings. All Stickies options are divided into several tabs. I suggest briefly familiarizing yourself with the capabilities of each of them:

  1. General. This tab contains settings regarding the placement of new stickers on the screen, as well as their functionality. For example, here you can link the creation of new notes to certain coordinates, apply one of the possible actions when you double-click on the sticker title, and much more.
  2. Appearance. All possible settings regarding the styling of stickers are collected here. You can create up to 10 different note design styles with different colors and levels of transparency. In addition, it is possible to download additional skins from the Internet or even create your own using a special utility!
  3. Net. Allows you to enable Network support in the program to be able to exchange stickers with friends (disabled by default).
  4. Email. Here you can enable the program's support for mail protocols, through which you can also exchange notes (the function is also disabled by default).
  5. PDA. Provides the ability to configure the exchange of tasks between a computer and a PDA running Windows or a device based on Palm OS.
  6. Alarm clocks. Allows you to customize the functionality and sound design of alarms in Stickies.
  7. Hotkeys. Makes it possible to change some keyboard shortcuts to speed up work with certain program functions.
  8. Additionally. Here you will find the ability to add search engines to the program to quickly search for selected texts on the Internet, and you will also be able to configure logging of the application and some additional options. Of the latter, it is worth noting the “Link .sti and .ssk files to the program” item, which allows you to set the corresponding file associations in the registry (by default, Stickies does not make any changes to it).

That's all, actually, about the options - configure Stickies as you wish;).

Working with stickers

Now it's time for the fun part - actually creating the stickers! To do this, you need to either double-click with the left mouse button on the program icon in the tray, or select the “New note” item in the main menu (first item).

An empty window will appear in the form of a yellow sticker in which you can enter the desired text. By clicking on the text field of a note, we will call up the style change menu, with which you can change the appearance of entries, as well as set the highlighting of individual words and paragraphs (for example, create a list):

Also, if access to the Network is activated, you can create a search for selected text from here (for example, in Google).

In addition to changing the appearance of the text, in Stickies we can also change the appearance of the background of the note itself, as well as set the time or event for its display. To do this, use another context menu, which is called by right-clicking on the sticker title:

All items in this menu are divided into five sections. The first section contains functions for saving and printing notes. Moreover, you can save it either in a separate file or in a note manager (more on that below). The second section allows you to configure the conditions under which the sticker will be displayed.

At the same time, using the “Alarm Clock” you can set the exact time for the reminder to be displayed, the “Fall asleep on” function allows you to delay the display of a sticker for a certain period of time, and “Attach” gives us the opportunity to link the appearance of a note to the appearance of a specific window (for example, the launch of some program or opening a specific web page):

The third section of the menu allows you to block editing of a note, cancel the display of a sticker on top of all windows, or minimize the recording window to the title. The last two sections are responsible for the appearance of our reminder and allow you to set a title for the sticker.

When you activate a network and/or email connection, another section will appear in the menu, allowing you to send notes to friends.

Adding graphics to a note

By default, all notes created in Stickies are text, but you can also create stickers containing graphics. There are several ways to take this type of notes:

  1. Copy the desired picture to the clipboard (select it and press CTRL+C), and then in the main menu, click the “New note from clipboard” button.
  2. Create a regular empty sticker and press CTRL+SHIFT+K (activates an empty graphic area without the ability to return to text mode).
  3. In Options, set the default to create graphic notes. To do this, in the “General” tab, activate the “New notes are images” item.

By right-clicking on the workspace of this type of sticker, you will have access to graphic editing tools that will allow you to change or create the desired image from scratch.

Otherwise, working with graphic notes is similar to text mode.

Additional Stickies Tools

Now that we've covered the basic functionality of Stickies, it's time to look at additional tools. These include a notes manager and a contacts manager.

The note manager is called by activating the “Manage notes” item in the main program menu:

With its help, we can quickly search for the reminders we need, edit them, or set the display time. Also, by selecting the “Saved” item, we can first create a new category for stickers, and then the stickers themselves in the created section using the corresponding items in the “File” menu:

Also interesting: in the “Desktop” section (where all active notes are stored) we can enable two modes that are not available in the main sticker menu. This hides the note and goes into “ghost mode.” The latter allows you to still display the sticker on the screen, but at the same time makes it “transparent” to mouse clicks.

That is, if there is a shortcut under a note, a click on the note will be perceived as a click on this shortcut! Combined with the ability to make the sticker translucent, we get the perfect reminder that is always in front of your eyes, but does not interfere with your work with the computer!

The last feature we'll look at is the contact manager. It is convenient to use if you have activated and configured Network and/or email support in the options. The manager is called from the main menu of the program when you click on the “Friends” item:

In order to add a new contact, just click the “Add Friend” button and fill out a simple form containing the name and email address of the person you need. The contact manager allows you to sort friends by groups, as well as using separators. It also provides a quick send list of up to 10 contacts called Close Friends.

Advantages and disadvantages of the program

  • unlimited number of reminders on your desktop;
  • extensive options for customizing the ways and times of displaying notes;
  • the ability to change the appearance of stickers with support for skins;
  • convenient sticker manager;
  • ability to create graphic notes.
  • there is no way to set a password for mail;
  • Not very convenient to work in graphical mode.

Conclusions

After reviewing several apps for creating electronic stickers, I came to the conclusion that Stickies is the best of the free ones, and even one of the best of its kind, even in comparison with commercial counterparts! Rich options for customizing the appearance of notes, convenient functions for scheduling their display, and a function for sharing notes with friends are the main trump cards of the program.

Therefore, if you still buy paper stickers and stick them on your monitor so as not to forget about important things, then Stickies will allow you to forget about this thankless task and save you from constantly wasting money and nerves;).

For those who like to use stickers and other types of reminders in life, there is good news - you can also do this on the Windows desktop. Now, even if you turn on your computer for entertainment and games, stickers on your desktop will remind you of important matters. This is a type of sticker reminder that is characterized by its small size and bright color to attract people's visual attention. But compared to paper stickers, desktop stickers have a number of advantages, such as:

This application is from the creators of Windows and it comes bundled with the operating system. The application is designed to quickly and easily create reminders without special knowledge of the system for the average user. They look like real stickers pasted on a table or computer monitor. Stickers have been introduced since version 7 of Windows.

The very name of the reminders Sticky Notes appears already in version 10. In Windows 10, stickers have acquired new functions, but the principle of use remains the same. In previous versions, the application was simply called “Sticky Notes” and was available in the Microsoft store.

How to use Sticky Notes

  • In Windows 10, you can find it by opening the Start menu and scrolling through the list of installed applications.
  • A small piece of paper will open, resembling a piece of paper attached to the monitor.
  • At the top of the sheet there are buttons for managing the note.
  • In this sheet you can write down text that will remind you of an important matter or event.
  • To copy the text you wrote into notes, right-click and select the appropriate item from the context menu. In the same way, you can paste text from another program or text.

The "+" button in the left corner of the Sticky Notes app allows you to create a note. By selecting “…” on the right, you can set the background color of the future note by selecting the desired one from the list. You can install the sticker on any part of the monitor by simply dragging it with the mouse. You can also pin the reminder to the taskbar if you find this option more convenient.

Stickies – a program for creating notes

This program is one of the best of its kind and has remained so for a long time. It is a small window that can be resized and customized to suit your needs. Stickies can change the background color of stickers on the desktop, customize the font of notes, set background transparency, attach stickers to the right place on the monitor, etc. It also has a note management manager and search for them.

The program has several more convenient features, such as: support for multiple screens, user styles, using notes online and sending them by mail. One of the useful features is the ability to attach a note to a specific window. The next time you open such a window, the note will open along with it. Thus, you can attach a note to Internet pages and other similar text editors. But always make sure that the stickers are not under the programs, i.e. were on top of windows with a web page or Word files.

When creating a new sticker, you can attach a thematic image to it or draw it manually. But there is no way to draw or add graphics to the text part of the note. First you add graphics, and only then write the body of the note. You can download the sticker application from the link - http://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/stickies/download.html.

PNotes.net - convenient and intuitive sticker manager

The PNotes application is similar in function to the previous one and has almost the same capabilities for managing notes. This program is distributed in two versions - portable and with an installer. When adding graphics to a sticker, you should not upload large, high-resolution images; because of this, PNotes.net may freeze for a while and slow down until the image stops loading.

The application also has a number of special functions, one of them is the addition of a plugin to the program that allows you to use notes on your social networks. Or vice versa - upload your posts to notes on the Windows desktop.

How to use PNotes.net

  1. To download the application for creating stickers, follow the link -.
  2. Install it and run it.
  3. You won't have any difficulties managing and customizing stickers.
  4. In the window that opens, you will see a panel at the bottom with a standard set of buttons for text formatting, which many are familiar with from other text editors, such as Microsoft Word, etc.

Sticky Notes (Sticky Notes, Notes) is an application for creating notes on the Desktop, built into the Windows 10 operating system. In the Microsoft Sticky Notes program, it is very easy to create an entry for a reminder and make other short entries.

What is this Sticky Notes program? In Sticky Notes, a note is created on the Windows Desktop in a window that looks like a piece of paper taped to it. After launching the application, add stickers (stickers) to the Windows Desktop, which can be “pasted” anywhere on the monitor screen.

I think it's very practical to set reminders on your desktop. Small notes are great for writing down reminders or other useful information.

The ability to create notes is built into the Windows operating system, but for some reason this application is little known to most users. There are similar programs from third-party manufacturers, as well as browser extensions.

In the Windows 7 operating system, this application is located along the path: Start menu => All Programs => Accessories => Sticky Notes.

In the Windows 8.1 operating system, go to “Applications”, then go to “Accessories - Windows”. The application is called "Notes".

Starting with Windows 10 Anniversary Update, the app is called Sticky Notes. In Windows 10 1607, the program has been modernized, but the principle of operation remains the same. In previous versions of Windows 10, the program is called “Sticky Notes.” The application can be downloaded from the Windows Store.

In the Sticky Notes window, click on the “Menu” button (“…”), a window will open in which you can choose from six colors for the background of the notes.

Choose different background colors for your reminders. Distribute colored notes on the Windows Desktop in the right places.

For convenience, the application can be pinned to the taskbar.

Other Sticky Notes settings

The size of notes can be adjusted. Move your mouse cursor to the edge of the application window, and then increase or decrease the size of the window in width or height.

After entering the “Menu” (“…”), the “Options” button (“gear”) will appear in the lower left corner of the program window. The “Options” window will open, in which you can disable the “Enable details” and “Send application usage statistics” items.

After enabling the “Enable Details” settings item, the application connects to Bing and Cortana, and some “smart” actions are enabled in the notes.

How to Delete Sticky Notes

It's very easy to delete a note in Sticky Notes from your computer. To delete an entry, click the mouse in the window of the note that you want to delete, and then click on the “Delete note” button (“trash can”) in the application window, or press the keyboard shortcut “Ctrl” + “D” in the active application window. Agree to delete the entry from your PC.
