How did ASUS start? ASUS brand history

Probably, there is no or almost no such person who has never heard the name of Asus. This brand produces a lot of all kinds of products, such as smartphones, laptops, routers, modems, monitors, motherboards and much, much more. However, few people know about the history of this huge corporation and how it all began. Well, we need to fix this. Further in the article, we will talk about how the brand was born, in what year it appeared, which manufacturing country Asus belongs to and go through some of the company's products.

Story

The company takes its start in 1989. At that time, the computer industry was at the very center of development, and almost every day new companies appeared in the world that sought to take their place under the sun. Asus was formed in the Chinese Republic of Taipei, or, as it is also called, Taiwan. Despite the fact that the Republic of China, Taiwan is still an independent state recognized throughout the world. But now is not about that.

At that time, everything that was produced from under the wing of the Middle Kingdom was regarded very skeptically, and Chinese products were not very successful. Nevertheless, in 1989, on April 1, 4 young people from the well-known company Acer decided to establish their own corporation in one of the apartments. And they called it Asus, or to be more precise, Asustek Computer Inc. "Asus" is a part of the word from PegASUS, which means "Pegasus - a horse with wings."

The main goal of the company at that time was to consult third-party manufacturers in Taiwan on the production of motherboards for computers. Unfortunately, the idea failed, and no one even wanted to listen to the guys. All local firms were quite satisfied that they were fulfilling orders from other more well-known manufacturers. Then, in the same year, the founders decided to take a rather bold step - to release their motherboard for the newly minted Intel 80486 processor at that time. It was this step that led the future computer giant to success.

The motherboard was created only according to the available information about the processor and based on personal knowledge and experience. It took not so much time for everything, and in the same 1989, the finished board was sent to the Intel technical laboratory.

Experts highly appreciated the finished work and recognized Asus as masters of their craft. From that moment on, close cooperation between the two companies began, which allowed Asus to receive not only world recognition, but also turn from an ordinary company into a huge corporation.

Country of origin Asus

As already mentioned at the very beginning, the country in which the company's products are manufactured is Taiwan. Actually, this is the place where the history of the corporation began. And although on the packaging or some stickers on Asus products, the manufacturing country of Asus is indicated as China, that is, Made in China, all the main production centers are concentrated here.

In addition, Asus works very closely with third-party manufacturers who also release their product. Such partners include Foxconn, Quanta Computer, Pegatron. And although the products come from under the wing of third-party production, whose factories are located in a slightly different place, the country of origin of Asus is still Taiwan, and China will be indicated on the packaging.

There are also rumors that the company has several factories in Mexico and the Czech Republic. But, at least, there has not yet been a single motherboard, monitor or smartphone, on the packaging of which Mexico or the Czech Republic would be listed as the manufacturing country of Asus.

Products

Asus has a very wide range of products. Under the named brand, laptops, smartphones, motherboards, video cards, tablets, monitors, network equipment, peripherals and much more are produced. The list is extensive, and the list can be long. The most popular, of course, are motherboards, laptops, especially the ROG gaming series, video cards and, more recently, smartphones.

Company smartphones

Asus has a separate line of smartphones called the ZenPhone. There are quite a lot of models here, and all of them are very competently located in different price categories, which allows the user to choose the most suitable option for him. Buying an Asus phone, a person receives a high-quality and well-made device that provides maximum functionality and ease of use.

laptops

Laptops that come out from under the wing of Asustek Computer Inc are always in great demand among consumers. It's about the same principle as smartphones. There are budget models, there are mid-range models and, of course, expensive options. Laptops of the ROG (Republic Of Gamers) gaming line stand apart. These models cost a lot of money, but the buyer gets the filling at the appropriate price.

As a rule, ROG laptops are made of very high quality materials and high-end hardware, for example, Intel's Core i7 processors and Nvidia's GTX 1050-1070 graphics card. Such a combination, even for a desktop computer, will cost a pretty penny, but here we offer a compact and stylish laptop that you can take with you anywhere and use it for all sorts of tasks.

Motherboards and video cards

Motherboards and video cards are especially popular with Asus. The main distinguishing feature of this product is excellent workmanship. The highest quality components are used for them, including capacitors, transistors, terristors, microcircuits, etc.

Both motherboards and video cards from Asus have repeatedly won awards at various exhibitions, and also set various world records. All of this can be read separately.

Other products

In addition to Asus phones and computer equipment, the company is also engaged in the production of monitors, peripherals, network devices, game controllers, etc. Of course, at some points, Asus still has a lot to master, but even these products are in great demand. Monitors from the company give a gorgeous picture and have excellent color reproduction. Keyboards and mice also provide comfortable work. There is nothing to say about gaming peripherals at all, since they have excellent quality and are considered one of the best in the world.

Be that as it may, you can love Asus, you can be treated indifferently, but you cannot deny its huge contribution to the development of computer technology, the IT sphere and equipment. What can you wish for a company? Great success, even more quality products and slightly lower prices.

By historical standards, ASUS is a baby - its history begins in the recent 1989. That is, even I am older than this company by several years;)

Actually, we rewind just before 1989. You don’t really surprise anyone with a computer, but the interest in them is colossal - there is nothing surprising in the fact that many people wanted to make money in this area. This was also facilitated by IBM, which shortly before that made the architecture of its computers open - it turns out that anyone could make computers or components for them. Yes, yes, already at that time, Taiwan was literally teeming with all kinds of electronics companies.

It is now that we are calm about the Maid in Rank nameplates, but then such production was not very appreciated, which means that it did not give everyone the opportunity to enter the world market. Even the largest "computer" companies from Taiwan were faced with a problem in the face of the policy of Intel Corporation, which sent out product samples only to its partners, who had proven themselves during a long collaboration. The samples coming to Taiwan (half a year or a year after the announcement) were already of much less value - with this approach, it was almost impossible to compete with Western producers.

But, as you know, China is full of people, so it didn’t take long to look for four enthusiasts even at that time. They were former employees of the company ... Acer :) Known by name as Wayne Hsieh, T.H. Tung, MT Liao and Ted Hsu(To make the pronunciation easier, the names are written in the official English transcription). Having good experience in a promising field, they decided to establish their own company, ASUS, in a small apartment. Where does this name come from? Everything is just like the world. There was a desire to be closer to the top of the alphabet chain, so from the original word " Pegasus"(Ancient Greek Πήγασος," Pegasus "- a symbol of success and rebirth in Greek mythology.) decided to leave only the last 4 letters. By adding a few pathetic words, " ASUS TeK Computer Incorporated”- this is the name that is considered correct and complete.

So. Initially, the newly minted "pegasi" planned to consult other companies on the production of motherboards. But things did not go uphill with this business - cunning Taiwanese from other companies were quite satisfied with fulfilling third-party orders for boards and components, so there was simply no talk of creating and implementing something innovative. Things did not go well with the production of their own chipsets - there was not enough production capacity and an appropriate test base, for example. As a result, it was decided to retrain in a more “light” business sector - the hand-made creation of motherboards.

It was still 1989 in the yard - by this time Intel had released its 486 processor (Intel 80486) - without thinking twice, ASUS decided to take a bold step, namely ... to develop a motherboard for a new processor, based only on their own experience and having only publicly available information about the new CPU. Even more surprising is that they succeeded - the "mother" was released quite quickly (in the same 1989) and just as quickly sent to the local Intel test lab. The board was duly appreciated by experts, after which ASUS began to be regarded as good specialists, which became the key to a long and fruitful cooperation. American processors and Taiwanese "mothers" literally healed soul to soul - ASUS began to receive rich information support from Intel, thanks to which its reputation and income crept up. It can be said that since then the doors to the world market have opened for the company and finally there was a serious reason to officially register ASUS, which was done on April 2, 1990.

The company had many slogans, here are just a few of them: heart of technology», « Rock Solid», « Inspiring Innovation - Persistent Perfection».

For several years, ASUS was, as it is now fashionable to say, a "young, dynamically developing company" - new boards appeared, production volumes grew, and the staff increased proportionally. Many technologies were developed, many of which later became the de facto standard.

In 1994, the position of executive director comes Johnny Shea(Jonney Shih), who at one time offered to create an independent company; By the way, Johnny Shea is still working in the company, being its president. Pretty soon, under his leadership, ASUS became the world leader in terms of quality and quantity of boards produced - thanks to a creative approach to market problems, the company succeeded in producing motherboards in almost all segments.

Due to the fact that the company produced products mainly in the middle and high price ranges, ASUS's position at the beginning of the new millennium in the motherboard market was shaken. The reason for this was the aggressive pricing policy of competing companies. ECS and foxconn who sold their devices at lower prices. To meet demand in the low price segment, ASUS established a subsidiary ASRock, which over the next couple of years made it possible to catch up. Already by 2005, ASUS regained the title of the largest manufacturer of motherboards - even then they were used in every third computer. A little later, ASUS took up the production of other devices - for example, video cards and optical drives.

It is clear that such activities could not go unnoticed by other companies, so the number of partners continued to grow every year. For example, cooperation with Hewlett Packard led to the appearance in the company's products of servers assembled to order; and since 2001, servers have been produced under their own brand.

When it became too crowded and just tired of sitting in the tower of a cramped computer case (even a server one), the company decided to grow not only up, but also in breadth - this is how products began to appear in many new areas, which later got the name " 3C strategy(which can be "deciphered as "Computers, Communications, Consumer electronics.")

For example, in 1997, the first laptop appeared under the ASUS brand - after a certain success of such a debut, the company decided to keep up with other manufacturers, but, on the contrary, placed a special emphasis on a new category of consumer devices, after which new laptop models began to appear like mushrooms after rain.

An interesting fact is that several laptops became companions of one team of climbers during the conquest of Chomolungma, including models ASUS U5, S6(both in leather and bamboo case finishes), W7 and U1. Upon reaching the base camp at an altitude of 5000 meters, only ASUS laptops continued to work. Other laptops were unable to even boot due to extremely low ambient temperatures. Thanks to the efforts of the leader of the climbing team, Captain Wang Yongfong, the ASUS U5 laptop reached Mount Everest (height 8848.43 m). The mountaineer took this laptop with him as a symbol of harmony between clean technologies and nature - thus, ASUS laptops were the first in the world to conquer the Top of the World. Speaking of Everest. In 2008, over 24 million ASUS motherboards were sold around the world - if they are stacked on top of each other, the height of the resulting tower will be 600 times higher than the highest mountain on Earth. The first ASUS laptops ( S200N and Lamborghini) have visited both the south and north poles.

Also, ASUS laptops were the first to go into space - during the 600-day orbital mission of the Mir space station.

Because ASUS has succeeded in the release of motherboards, the company had the means to further develop the business. In this regard, the year 2005 turned out to be especially fruitful - it all started with the creation of a product concept " Republic of Gamers”, designed primarily for players and enthusiasts. The ROG series still produces the most high-tech products, which, by the way, can rightly be considered fashionable - their price is very even;)

Motherboard pioneered ASUS Crosshair, and the most powerful product of this series today is rightfully the motherboard ASUS Rampage III Extreme, which works with Intel Core i7 processors on socket 1366.

In January of the same year, the company announced cooperation with the notorious Italian company Lamborghini, after which the fruit of joint work was presented the fruit of joint work was presented - laptops of the series VX. This is another fashion series, which has recently been replenished with seventh generation devices - apparently, the fruitful duet is not going to stop there.

A year later, on June 5, 2007, at Computex, ASUS and Intel presented to the general public a new series of ultra-compact laptops, which later formed a new class of devices, netbooks. The first representative of the new series was a netbook ASUS EeePC 701(running under the control of the Intel Celeron M processor), the appearance of which seriously made us think about the future of all other laptop manufacturers - I think it's not worth talking about the growth rate of the popularity of netbooks.

= Easy to play, easy to learn; easy to work.
Along with the launch of netbooks, in the same year the company began developing new devices for itself - communicators under its own brand. Although in fairness it should be noted that the company began producing mobile phones back in 2003.

On January 3, 2008, the company underwent a major reorganization, which resulted in three separate industrial groups:

ASUS TeK Computer, which began to produce all products (motherboards, laptops, smartphones, monitors, servers and communication equipment, multimedia devices and consumer electronics) exclusively under its own brand.

Pegatron Technology, under the brand of which ready-made computers, cases and other devices are produced. In the name of this unit, one can involuntarily notice the beginnings of the same Pegasus.

Unihan Technology Responsible for contract manufacturing of computer components. Clients include leading original equipment manufacturers (OEDs), distributors, active resellers (VARs) and system integrators in over 50 countries.

From recent events - in 2009, ASUS, together with the navigation "monster" Garmin organized another duo, the main goal of which is to release devices under the brand name Nuviphone, which are smartphones with a full-fledged navigation component. Most recently, the duo released a new model, GarminASUS A50, running the Android OS - I will review this new product next year, but for now I will use it to learn more about the pros and cons.

Since its inception in 1989, the company has gone from unknown "pegasus" to a large international corporation ASUSTeK Computer Inc., which now employs more than 100,000 people in offices scattered around the world.
To date, ASUS products are among the best-selling in the field of mobile technology and computers. Among Taiwanese manufacturers, ASUS ranks first in terms of product quality, and in the near future it is going to take first place in the whole world. Well, the most interesting, perhaps, is yet to come.

With coming!

There are many companies on the world market that produce gadgets, computer equipment and household appliances. Among them there are those that began their history in the 30-40s of the last century. These are already whole concerns, which, in addition to production, have many subsidiaries. But there are firms that appeared at the end of the last century, and now they have become leaders in their field. One of these was the Asus company, whose manufacturing country is Taiwan.

Start

Of course, the firm does not have such a huge history as its counterparts: HP, Aser, Sony and Lenovo. However, it has come a long way to present itself on the world market with a quality and reliable product.

For the first time, the company became known in 1989. Back then, Asus (Taiwan) was founded by four enthusiasts who ran away from another big-name company, Aser. Naturally, they already had experience working with electronics, and therefore it was decided to organize their own mini-concern in a small apartment.

Name

Asus, whose country of origin is Taiwan, got its name from the animal. It turned out that it was based on "Pegasus", which symbolized not only success and rebirth, but also translated from Greek as "stormy current".

As you know: "Whatever you call a boat, so it will float." The same thing happened with pegASUS. If the first few months they only advised other companies on the development of motherboards. After some time, they realized that they could create a “mother” on their own. Moreover, the most surprising thing was that they successfully released it in the very first year of its foundation. This allowed them to open the door to the global market and officially become a company in 1990.

Leader

Four years later, Johnny Shih, who is currently the president of the company, came to the post of executive director. It was he who pushed the company to the world leadership in the manufacture of motherboards. Over time, Johnny Shih managed to not only keep the company afloat, but also help it capture other segments of the global electronics market.

Development

In 1997, Asus models appeared. A little later, it was decided to release communicators under its own name. That was also quite a significant step in the development of the company. Although it is worth noting that the ASUS mobile phone, although it was first released in 2003, still became known only in the last couple of years.

The company then underwent a reorganization. As a result, the concern turned into three separate groups. The first, ASUSTeK Computer, worked on motherboards, laptops, smartphones, monitors, and other components. But Pegatron Technology, under its own name, began to give the world ready-made computers, as well as cases for them and devices.

Unihan Technology is the third group that has worked on the contract manufacturing of PC components. It has become a working platform for cooperation with distributors, resellers, integrators and original equipment manufacturers.

motherboards

The Asus company, whose manufacturing country is Taiwan, initially specialized in the manufacture of motherboards. Now it is the largest manufacturer in this segment. Its share in the world market is more than 40%. Statistics show that at the moment, almost every third PC is equipped with an Asus motherboard.

For four years now, the company has been the most expensive brand in Taiwan, in addition, the best manufacturer of motherboards. For all the time in this segment, a huge number of innovations have been implemented that have not been registered anywhere before.

So there was a revolutionary 16-phase power supply scheme. Thanks to her, it was possible to significantly reduce energy consumption. The result is a "mother" that not only consumes less energy, but also generates some heat. Both the first and second indicators do not affect excellent performance in any way.

A special EPU function was created, which is the controller of the parameters of the main components of the PC: video card, RAM, chipset, hard drive, cooler and processor. But Express Gate is working on the fact that literally 5 seconds after turning on the PC, the user already has access to the network.

laptops

Also, Asus, whose country of origin is Taiwan, eventually began to work on laptops. Moreover, many of them have become not just a quality product, some have become a leader in a certain segment. We are talking about which, although they cost sky-high money, are still the most powerful and reliable machines.

The company has released more than 20 series of these devices. Among them are ZENBOOK UX, which are the thinnest and most attractive laptops. This series is quite expensive and is perfect for business people. But ASUS X is responsible for multimedia, especially suitable for cinephiles and music lovers.

But it has become a very multifunctional series. There are budget models with an attractive design, there are also devices for businessmen, as well as quite powerful laptops. ASUS G is the line that marked the beginning of the gaming "boom". Thanks to the models of this series, every fan of computer games will be able to plunge into the virtual world with pleasure.

Gadgets

Well, among other things, over the past few years, the company has been able to introduce very powerful and high-quality smartphones. Asus (manufacturer - Taiwan) has developed a whole series of very successful and good devices called ZenFone.

There are several branches in this line: here are camera phones, and large displays, powerful processors and simply beautiful models.

The ASUS phone is not just a great gadget, it, above all, continues the tradition of quality from the company. Each model is assembled from strong materials, there are more budget models, which, even though they were assembled from plastic, are still quite durable. There are also very cool metal cases, which, among other things, are real technical giants of the market.

The company also boasts that last summer it released the first smartphone powered by the most powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor. This honor was awarded to the excellent modified ZenFone 3 Deluxe model. Apart from this, the gadget is practically on the global market. And all thanks to 6 GB of RAM and as much as 256 GB of internal memory.

Of course, ASUS cannot be called the undisputed leader in everything. It produces the best models of motherboards, but their smartphones are too expensive, so they are less popular than similar Chinese models. The company's laptops are also beyond praise, but there are companies that specialize in the manufacture of these devices. Naturally, Asus cannot compete with them. But it is worth remembering that many of the experienced concerns have been on the market for more than 40-50 years, but the Taiwanese company has been operating for almost 28 years and has achieved very cool results during this time.

However, not all of these firms can boast of strong growth and a significant number of buyers of their products. In today's digital age, there are a huge number of different electronics manufacturers. All this was beyond the power of the newly formed company.

ASUS was split into parent company ASUSTeK and subsidiaries Pegatron and Unihan. The first brick in the founding of Asus was laid back in 1989. Full name ASUSTeK Computer Inc. The history of education is quite original.

At the moment, Asus produces laptops, motherboards, as well as components and cooperates with companies such as Sony, Alienware, HP, Compaq. For more than 20 years, Asus has been committed to consumer excellence and excellence.

Laptops with wide functionality and great price from ASUS. The ASUS K series is easy to use for daily use. Representatives of this line are equipped with everything you need to work on the Internet and to support basic office applications.

Asus (Chinese: 華碩電腦) is a Taiwan-based company that produces a variety of computer equipment (both components and finished products). In 2015, it is planned to resume their production. In the second half of 2010, Asus also began placing orders with the factories of Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) and Quanta Computer.

The market capitalization of the company as of mid-October 2007 was $10.66 billion. In 2011, the company employed about 19,000 employees. The company's net profit exceeds $565 million. The following January, the company began working with Lamborghini on the VX series. In March 2006 ASUS began to cooperate with Samsung and Founder. The name of the company was born from the Greek word "Pegasus", which means "turbulent current".

The moment the company appeared was marked by hard times for the entire Taiwanese IT industry. Naturally, the company did not limit itself to the simple production of stamped products and began to develop its own "motherboard".

Asus is a company of which country?

The role of quality control was taken over by the world famous company Intel. They liked the Asus product. This became the starting point of the company. After recognizing its achievements, Asus received a contract to work with Intel and, as a result, was able to enter the global marketplace. But it was only the first step into the world. The company's management decided to expand the range of manufactured goods.

asus whose production?

Asus has added Hewlett-Packard to its business partners. In 2000, the first Asus laptop was introduced to the world. This was another big step towards success. It still manufactures laptops, boards, smartphones, multimedia, consumer electronics, servers, and more.

And Unihan is engaged in the fact that it produces computer components for other companies. All achievements are instantly transferred to production and reach the mass consumer. The work of Asus is aimed at meeting the needs of everyone.

Until now, there is no doubt about the serious attitude of the company's management. The company's specialists pay special attention not only to the latest developments and achievements in the field of electronics, but also invariably keep a high bar in relation to the quality of workmanship. With its products, the company once again confirmed that the pursuit of excellence is one of the main tasks of its specialists.

Asus is Chinese. It is known that ASUSTeK Computer Inc. manufactures and sells more motherboards than any other company in the world. In total, the Taiwanese giant sells more than 30 million products. In January 2008, the company went through a restructuring.
