Iphone 8 price comparison. Comparison of iPhone models

The first batch of iPhone X sold out in a matter of minutes, even in the Russian Apple Store. You don't have to wait for the next devices until the 10th of December. At the same time, iPhone 8 will go to its future owner within one working day.

You can endlessly compare technical characteristics and lick your lips at delicious pictures. But there are several reasons to buy now. And about the same amount for the iPhone 8. Let's figure it out and decide.

4 reasons to buy an iPhone X

1. This is the first iPhone with new experiences in 4 years

Even iOS 11 in the iPhone X is different. With the introduction of Face ID and the absence of the familiar Home button, Apple has added a bunch of gestures that you will have to use every day.

I really want to “touch” it all (well, with the exception of the scratched ends). I hope that the new chips will work like clockwork.

2. Finally, an OLED display for the entire body

It’s true, almost frameless smartphones were sold by everyone except Apple. The situation was similar when, among its five-inch competitors, Apple proudly released the iPhone 5S, citing the fact that “tablet phones” were terribly inconvenient. Well, well.

Now there is a holiday on our street, the iPhone X has a huge OLED screen that occupies almost the entire area of the front panel. No iPhone has ever shown such a bright and juicy picture.

3. It's better than Plus in terms of ease of use.

Put a larger screen than the Plus into a smaller body? A dream that unexpectedly came true. It is no longer necessary to carry a smartphone in a separate shovel or bag. Owners of 5.5-inch iPhones have something to think about.

And although the Safe Area in both models is not very different, the potential of the new product is enormous. Yes, there are still voids and controversial issues in the interface, but I believe that in future versions of iOS the space will be used even more effectively.

4. If you don’t like it, sell it for the same money (or more)

Do you know the most important feature of Apple's scarce flagships? Everyone wants them. You can test iPhone X and sell it in a month for almost the same money. And then buy an eight. The main thing is not to drop the flagship; the back panel is on sale for the price of the iPhone 6S.

By the way, are there any lucky people here who will receive a smartphone in early November? Think about it for a couple of days, if the new product is not accepted, there will be people who want to buy an iPhone X. Even more expensive than on the Apple website. This situation will only last for the first month or two, so you shouldn’t delay castling.

4 reasons to buy iPhone 8

1. It costs adequate money - from 56,990 rubles.

iPhone 8 is much more affordable. The 64 GB version is sold for 56,990 rubles and you don’t have to wait a couple of months for it. Even the top-end Plus does not exceed the unaffordable 80K for a smartphone.

Moreover, for the average user (like me) the minimum 64 gigabytes is enough. Family photos can be stored in iCloud, and iOS 11 can automatically download unused apps. After all these manipulations, my iPhone “lost weight” to 12 gigabytes.

2. Almost all iPhone 7 accessories fit iPhone 8

Most cases from its predecessors will fit on the iPhone 8. Tight cases and bumpers go by. But the fleet of docking stations, stands and car holders most likely will not need to be updated at all. Perhaps the only plus of the ill-fated rolling design.

Under ten, you will have to buy a new set of accessories, and at exorbitant prices. A premium device, after all. It’s cheaper to “dress up” eights, and there’s also a chance of buying an iPhone 7 accessory at a big discount.

3. The hardware costs the same as in X

The iPhone 8 and X are almost identical inside. The processor, wireless charging, auxiliary modules, amount of RAM - everything is identical. Except that the iPhone X lasts two hours longer than the 8, but less than the 8 Plus.

Of course, a 3D scanner and an OLED display cannot be found in the iPhone 8, but all the basic capabilities correspond to the flagship. That is, the eight will give the owner the same three years without brakes with all the new iOS.

4. There's still a Home button and Touch ID

I personally know several people for whom gesture control is an overwhelming task. What should they do with the iPhone X, which has no other option? The Home button is an integral element of Apple smartphones, how can we do without it?

With Touch ID the same problem, the smartphone often unlocks without looking, with one finger. This trick won’t work with ten, but in the iPhone 8 the fingerprint scanner is where it should be, right on the Home button.

So which iPhone should you choose?

Honestly? I'm not sure anymore. On the one hand, iPhone X - for once completely different smartphone from Apple. But how convenient is it? In addition, such an “untested” new product may have childhood sores that you don’t want to endure after shelling out 80 thousand rubles.

Due to the really high price of the iPhone X (from RUB 79,990), most Apple fans who want to upgrade to a new iPhone model choose between two more affordable models. What is the difference between iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus and which smartphone should you choose? In this material, we compared the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus and examined in detail all the differences between the smartphones.

Related articles:

Like all previous 4.7- and 5.5-inch Apple smartphones, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are basically the same. The smartphones feature identical durable glass and stainless steel bodies, the same six-core A11 Bionic processor, support for wireless charging, and many other new key features. That's why we decided not to waste your time by comparing every single feature of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, but rather focus on the differences. Here they are.

Differences between iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus

1. Dimensions

Let's start with the most obvious - the dimensions of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, which differ significantly.

Dimensions and weight of iPhone 8:

  • Length: 138.4 mm.
  • Width: 67.3 mm.
  • Thickness: 7.3 mm.
  • Weight: 148 g.

Dimensions and weight of iPhone 8 Plus:

  • Length: 158.4 mm.
  • Width: 78.1 mm.
  • Thickness: 7.5 mm.
  • Weight: 202 g

The iPhone 8 Plus is not only larger in width and length compared to the iPhone 8. All dimensions of the “eight” with the Plus prefix are larger. And if the thickness of the iPhone 8 Plus is greater than that of the iPhone 8 by only an insignificant 0.2 mm, then the weight differs much more noticeably. iPhone 8 Plus is 54 grams heavier than its “little brother”. Of course, the difference cannot be called too serious, but when directly comparing smartphones, it is felt.

2. Display diagonal and resolution

The second obvious difference between the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus is the display diagonals and their characteristics. iPhone 8 has a 4.7-inch display, iPhone 8 Plus has a 5.5-inch display. Both smartphones have Retina HD displays - liquid crystal with an IPS matrix.

The differences between the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus displays don't end there. The iPhone 8 screen resolution is 1334 x 750 pixels, pixel density is 326 ppi. The display resolution of the iPhone 8 Plus is 1920 x 1080 pixels, the pixel density is higher - 401 ppi. There is also a difference in the contrast of the displays. For the iPhone 8 screen it is 1400:1, for the iPhone 8 Plus it is 1300:1. Moreover, the brightness of both displays is the same - 625 cd/m2.

All other display characteristics of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are identical. Both feature support for True Tone color temperature adaptation technology (first introduced in the iPhone 8/8 Plus) and 3D Touch, wide color gamut (P3), dual-domain pixels for wider viewing angles and an excellent oleophobic coating.

3. Cameras

The main technological difference between the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus is their cameras. The 4.7-inch iPhone 8 is equipped with a 12-megapixel camera with ƒ/1.8 aperture and support for optical image stabilization. At this time, the 5.5-inch iPhone 8 Plus has a dual camera with a wide-angle and telephoto lens - the resolution of each module is 12 megapixels. The aperture of the wide-angle lens is ƒ/1.8, the telephoto lens is ƒ/2.8.

The significant difference between the cameras of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus is not only the presence of an additional lens in the latter. Thanks to the collaboration of two cameras, iPhone 8 Plus has support for:

  • 2x optical zoom,
  • tenfold digital zoom,
  • unique “Portrait” mode,
  • portrait lighting.

First introduced in iPhone 7 Plus, Portrait mode lets you create photos with a depth-of-field effect. In such photographs, the subject remains in focus, and the background is beautifully and naturally blurred. Before Apple introduced support for depth-of-field photography in its dual-camera iPhones, only DSLR cameras could take them without software processing.

Portrait Lighting is the latest development from Apple, exclusive to the iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. The feature gives you the ability to use daylight, studio, contour or stage lighting with one tap when shooting in Portrait mode.

The iPhone 8, due to the lack of a dual camera, does not have all these features.

As for shooting video, the shooting resolution of both smartphones is the same. Both iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus can record video with the following resolutions:

  • 4K at 24, 30 or 60 fps,
  • 1080p at 30 or 60 fps,
  • 720p at 30 fps.

The only significant difference between smartphone cameras when shooting is that the iPhone 8 Plus can use optical zoom and six times digital zoom while recording.

The front cameras of smartphones are the same.

4. Battery

Another major difference between the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus is battery life. The 5.5-inch iPhone Plus has much larger dimensions, and with it there is space under the case for installing a more capacious battery.

Talk time:

  • iPhone 8 - up to 14 hours.
  • iPhone 8 Plus - up to 21 hours.

Internet surfing time:

  • iPhone 8 - up to 12 hours.
  • iPhone 8 Plus - up to 13 hours.

Operating time in video playback mode:

  • iPhone 8 - up to 13 hours.
  • iPhone 8 Plus - up to 14 hours.

Operating time in audio playback mode:

  • iPhone 8 - up to 40 hours.
  • iPhone 8 Plus - up to 60 hours.

Both the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus support wireless and fast charging.

5. Price

And, of course, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus differ in price. The 5.5-inch iPhone 8 Plus is a more technically advanced smartphone, which is why it has a higher price. The cost of iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus in Russia is as follows:

  • iPhone 8 64 GB - RUB 56,990.
  • iPhone 8 256 GB - RUB 68,990.
  • iPhone 8 Plus 64 GB - RUB 64,990.
  • iPhone 8 Plus 256 GB - RUB 76,990.

The price difference between iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus is 8 thousand rubles.

iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus - what to choose

“Which should I buy - iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus?” - there is no definite answer to this question. It all depends on the preferences of each individual person and his financial capabilities. Given the various criteria, the answers are quite obvious. Do you want a more compact smartphone that always has somewhere to put it? Your choice is iPhone 8. Do you want a smartphone with the best camera? iPhone 8 Plus, no doubt. Don't want to charge your smartphone every day? The capacious battery of the iPhone 8 Plus will allow you to do this.

When new Apple devices are released, we always receive more questions than answers. This time, people are thinking about comparing iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 PLUS smartphones, because they need to choose something.

This is exactly what we will do today, we will understand the difference between these gadgets and try to decide which is better. It will be very interesting.

What is the difference between iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 PLUS?

This time Apple repeated the practice of last year and we again received two models with the same index. Only now we skipped 7S and went straight to number 8.

The situation has not changed much and the picture will be almost identical. However, there are some features that you need to be aware of.

Let's try to figure out the most important differences between the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 PLUS:

As in the previous generation, the main difference concerns the camera, only now we also get a new mode called Portrait Lighting.

It is still in beta testing and its main task is the function of changing lighting using software capabilities. It’s still a little damp, but even in this form it looks very impressive.

This again implies that photo processing requires more RAM. So the larger version is again ahead of the smaller one by a whole gigabyte.

Which is better: iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 PLUS?

The good thing about Apple's logic is that it generally cares about all types of customers and tries to please everyone. That’s why we see such a large assortment in the Apple Store today.

If you are wondering which iPhone is better: 8 or 8 PLUS, then you will find a very simple and logical answer - each of them is designed for a different type of buyer.

Let's go through the points for which they want to buy these models:

  • Wireless and fast charging. If you buy a special station and adapter, you get a miracle that should have appeared four years ago. There is support for the Qi wireless standard and the ability to charge the gadget from 0 to 50 percent in 30 minutes.
  • Glass design. If there are no changes at the front, then at the back we have a glass cover. This was able to kill two birds with one stone: it refreshed the old design a little and made it possible to implement wireless charging.
  • Colors. There are only three colors: Silver, Space Gray and Gold. Gold and silver look especially unusual.
  • Speakers. Both gadgets have a nice feature that many competitors lack: stereo speakers. Compared to last year, it is now 25 percent more powerful.
  • True Tone. Now you can worry less about your eyes, because now they will get a little less tired thanks to True Tone technology, which allows you to adjust the white balance depending on the type of lighting.
  • CPU. Such a processor gives you capabilities that you can only dream of. The A11 Bionic has as many as six cores and the test results are simply impressive.
  • ARKit. Both models have the ability to use augmented reality and now the world of games should change a little. We also receive pleasant bonuses in everyday life.
  • Bluetooth 5.0. Not many people have noticed, but the Bluetooth standard is now 5.0, which shows a commitment to the future. Apple knows how to feel these moments.

It was not for nothing that I recalled the features of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 PLUS. Each item is present in both models and this suggests that the differences between the models are simply minimal, the phones are simply designed for different buyers.

What to choose: iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 PLUS?

When it comes to making a choice, you begin to calculate in your head all the pros and cons of using one model or another, and in our case, it’s the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 PLUS.

I will try to help you with this, because sometimes someone else’s opinion can play a key role and you will see those moments that you didn’t even think about.

My answer falls into two obvious parts. Read carefully and it will help you make your choice:

I can add that the PLUS model is worth taking only if you understand all its advantages. Otherwise, the iPhone 8 will be enough to perform all the basic tasks and even more.

Conclusion

I hope you liked my comparison of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 PLUS smartphones. I think it will be much easier to make a choice once you know the differences and which is better.

I can also say that you should not take out a loan for an iPhone. If you have enough money for a certain model, then we take it and don’t regret it. Every year, the iPhone becomes longer in use.

Taking the same iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 PLUS, you won’t feel too much that your phone is behind modern standards.

Here we will compare iPhone X and iPhone 8, and you can make your choice. On September 12, 2017, at its presentation, Apple announced three new iPhones: iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X (read as iPhone 10). Apple ditched the iPhone 7S and jumped straight to the iPhone 8, which in itself is unusual, but the surprises don't stop here.

The iPhone X (or iPhone 10) is a special holiday device designed to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the iPhone line, and it's a radical departure from previous models.

I think one of the most obvious differences between the iPhone X and the iPhone 8 is the design. Over the past years, Apple has not had any design innovations. We were convinced of this by seeing the iPhone 7, because the appearance was virtually the same as the iPhone 6. Fortunately, this year everything is a little different, but mainly only for the iPhone X.

Like the Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG V30, the iPhone X's screen is as close to the outside as possible, right to the edges. It's a striking, futuristic design that's much more attractive than previous versions of the iPhone. But the biggest design oddity that turns off a huge number of users is the cutout at the top that drops down onto the screen. It houses many sensors and a front camera.

Both of the latest iPhones have glass on the back. Which we think will look good, but probably won't be durable.

Every new iPhone is water-resistant with the same IP67 rating as before, but the iconic round home button that sat below the display on every iPhone is happily missing from the iPhone X. This means Touch ID is now only available on iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. Instead, the iPhone X uses the new Face ID feature. This face scanning technology is similar to the Notes face recognition on the iPhone 8, but you'll be able to use it to authorize iTunes purchases and unlock your phone.

Specifications

We've put the specs of each of Apple's latest devices on paper so you can decide for yourself which one is the most worthy upgrade. In the characteristics below, you can compare iPhone X and iPhone 8 on all the technical advantages of these smartphones. For a more detailed analysis, read the article below.

iPhone X and iPhone 8 comparison – Dimensions

iPhone X: 143.6×70.9×7.7mm, 179 grams.
iPhone 8: 138.4×67.3×7.3mm, 148 grams.

The iPhone X has had a pretty major redesign compared to recent iPhone models, including the newest iPhone 8. Despite the larger screen inches, the iPhone X is only slightly taller than the iPhone 8, and it's unlikely to be wider or thicker. It's also only 17 percent heavier, proving why removing the top and bottom bezels on the iPhone X is quite difficult.

Overall, the iPhone X made the iPhone 8 obsolete. Speaking of which, on the iPhone X's larger screen, its display has a large "notch" at the top for Face ID (more on this in the performance section), which makes viewing full-screen photos and videos appear a little odd.

But where the situation seems more familiar is when you compare the back ends of the iPhone X and iPhone 8. Both devices have a glass back that allows the addition of wireless charging and is a first for an iPhone.

It is also IP67 water and dust resistant, allowing you to fully submerge up to 1 meter in water for 30 minutes.
In terms of colors offered, the iPhone X will be available in space gray and silver, while the iPhone 8 is available in three options: gold, silver and black.

iPhone X and iPhone 8 comparison – Display

iPhone X: 5.8in Super Retina (2436x1125, 458ppi) OLED display.
iPhone 8: 4.7in Retina (750×1334, 326ppi) LED-backlit IPS LCD display.

The iPhone X's screen is significantly larger than the iPhone 8's, but the decision to switch to OLED screen technology should offer users much greater contrast. Than on the iPhone 8, which boasts the same IPS LCD display as in previous generations.

iPhone X's increased resolution and pixel density are also the highest ever seen on an iPhone. With a huge resolution of 2436x1125 and 458ppi, which makes the iPhone 8's 750x1334 326ppi a bit poor compared to the iPhone X.

However, the iPhone 8 at least uses Apple's TrueTone technology, which balances out ambient light for greater accuracy. Also high dynamic range (HDR) content, both of which are featured on the iPhone X.

iPhone X and iPhone 8 comparison – Hardware and memory

iPhone X: A11 Bionic CPU, 3 GB RAM, 64 GB or 256 GB storage.
iPhone 8: A11 Bionic CPU, 3 GB RAM, 64 GB or 256 GB storage.

Both the iPhone X and iPhone 8 are powered by Apple's new A11 Bionic processor, which is paired with Apple GPU. This six-core processor is divided into two low-performance cores and four high-performance cores. Moreover, regular cores are 25% faster than the previous A10 chip, and high-performance cores are 75% faster than the A10 SoC.

(iPhone X and iPhone 8 comparison, it’s a pity that there is no 128 gigabytes, since for me 256 is a lot)

In terms of memory, the iPhone X holds 3GB of RAM, while the iPhone 8 only packs 2GB of RAM. Although both devices have a choice of 64GB or 256GB of onboard storage.

iPhone X and iPhone 8 comparison – Software

iPhone X: iOS 11.
iPhone 8: iOS 11.

Both the iPhone X and iPhone 8 will ship running iOS 11, bringing some pretty neat features. There's no way to make an iPhone X vs iPhone 8 comparison here, since - powered by the same chip - the software needs to offer the same experience on both devices.

However, the iPhone X will debut, with some features only available on the high-priced flagship. Such as Face ID and new gestures for home navigation and multitasking, as well as portrait lighting and battery modes.

iPhone X and iPhone 8 comparison – Cameras

iPhone X: Dual 12MP (f/1.8 and f/2.4) with OIS, 7MP front panel.
iPhone 8: Single 12MP (f/1.8, 28mm) with OIS, 7MP front.

The iPhone X offers a dual-camera setup similar to the one that debuted on the iPhone 7 Plus. However, the two 12-megapixel sensors have been upgraded and can now shoot 4K video at up to 60fps and 1080p video at 240fps.

The iPhone 8 doesn't even come close in comparison, as it only boasts a single 12-megapixel f/1.8 rear camera.
Elsewhere, however, the iPhone X and iPhone 8 comparison are identical, with a 7-megapixel front panel with an f/2.2 aperture and no OIS.

iPhone X and iPhone 8 comparison – Battery

iPhone X: 21 hours of quoted talk time, fast charging, wireless charging.
iPhone 8: 19 hours talk time, fast charging, wireless charging.

For all its internal improvements, when the iPhone 8 was a disappointment, and because of its unchanged capacity. Apple is stuck with the iPhone 6, iPhone 6S and iPhone 7, all of which have similar staying power, and history is repeating itself as Apple admits there wasn't much improvement between the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8.

As for the iPhone X, Apple remains firm about the size of the battery inside, but said it will improve by two hours over the iPhone 7 and you'll get 21 hours of talk time.

iPhone X and iPhone 8 comparison – Display quality

There is one more thing worth saying. This is the display on the iPhone X - an OLED screen that Apple calls a Super Retina display.

The iPhone X display has a TrueTone resolution of 2436 x 1125 pixels and 458 ppi, with a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1.
-Display iPhone 8 offers a Retina display, a resolution of 1334x750 pixels at 326 ppi and a contrast ratio of 1400:1.
-The iPhone 8 Plus display is a Retina display, with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels at 401 ppi and a 1300:1 contrast ratio.

Statistics show that the quality of the iPhone X will be far superior to that of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

(iPhone X and iPhone 8 comparison, the full quality cannot be conveyed in photographs)

By the way, when Apple first started selling Retina Displays, it explained that it chose the name Retina because it was the number of pixels the eye could see. So based on Apple's own marketing, you may not be able to perceive more pixels per inch.

Missing Home Button

There is one huge difference between the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. It is the completely missing Home button. Seriously, she's just not there, anywhere!

The trade-off for getting a larger screen on the iPhone 8 is rolling back the Home button. Yes, the Home Button trademark, which may have been part of the iPhone's design as the wheel on the iPod, is gone.

(iPhone X compared to iPhone 8 does not have a Home button)

Removing the Home button means Apple needs to make some changes to the iPhone interface. So if you want to buy an iPhone X, you'll have to learn a new way to navigate the interface. You may adapt to this quickly, or you may end up disappointed. It depends on how willing you are to embrace change and intuitively learn a new way to interact with your iPhone.

There is another change as a result of the lack of a Home button. Touch ID is Apple's fingerprint recognition system to keep your phone secure so only you can unlock it. It allowed you to pay for purchases using Apple Pay. now it has been replaced by Face ID.

iPhone X and iPhone 8 comparison, winner: iPhone 8 (Depends on Face ID)

Face ID vs Touch ID

We're a little sad about the loss of Touch ID on the iPhone X. We liked the ease of use. Loved being able to unlock our phone just by pressing the Home button, and we loved using our iPhone to pay for things in stores. But... No matter how funny it may sound, with Face ID you unlock your phone by looking at it.

There is a lot of concern online about how reliable Face ID will be, how secure it will be, and how it will be implemented.

Showing Apple on stage during their presentation didn't provide enough information to convince people of its reliability. For now, Face ID is failing, although Apple says it's down to a misconfiguration.

In terms of whether someone can hack your phone using Face ID, Apple says Face ID is more secure than Touch ID (unless you have an identical twin intent on reading your iMessages).

Until the iPhone X, which will be available for purchase after November, we won't see how Face ID will work in practice.

When we can use Face ID, we may be shocked by it. But for now, we'd say there's nothing wrong with Touch ID on the iPhone 8 and Plus.

iPhone X and iPhone 8 comparison – Price

We missed , which is a new feature for the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and iPhone X. We're not sure how important this feature is, but if that's what's appealing to you, it's worth highlighting that this feature is available on both iPhone 8 and iPhone X. and iPhone X, so you don't have to choose between them.

Buy now with discount.

Today we will compare iPhone 8 plus and iPhone X. Which one is better to choose?? And will we understand whether the iPhone 10 is worth the money they are asking for it, or should owners of older devices pay attention to the 8? It seems that the answer is obvious, if not for one huge “but”...

Price

We live in a world where the most budget-friendly Apple smartphone from the latest line costs around 60,000 rubles. Doesn't this confuse you? For most buyers, this price tag is somewhere on the verge of good and evil. If we talk about the Tenth model, then its price starts from 80,000 rubles and reaches 92,000 for the top model. This order of price tags literally borders on common sense.

Most users of the basic model will be enough for their eyes, but the price difference between iPhone 10 and 8 plus very significant. And if you look at the gray market, the situation there is absolutely terrifying.

Background

Don’t also forget that the Ten is the first device in the new format. Remember the Four, Five, Six - these smartphones had many problems that greatly shortened their lifespan. But the S versions, where bugs were corrected, became standards and role models for phones from other manufacturers.

Let's just take a quick look at them. The 4S made voice assistants popular. Or the 5S, which showed the world a fingerprint scanner for the first time. Subsequently, it was he who set a new quality standard for most modern smartphones. And the Eight is exactly such a device. It essentially became the logical conclusion of the 6th series, having absorbed all the best.

Following this logic, maybe the iPhone X will break this tradition? Most likely not. Indeed, despite its external attractiveness, many inaccuracies and shortcomings are already visible. However, there is another opinion on this matter.

iPhone 10 is Apple's first smartphone without the S prefix, which is truly of the highest quality. Minimum defect. Everything works great.

Screen

It turns out that the iPhone X display is not as large as it might initially seem. The display diagonal was stated to be about 5.8 inches, but in the end it turns out that the amount of displayed content is almost comparable to an 8+ screen. And in horizontal mode the image is even slightly smaller. This is probably the first time in the history of Apple when the stated diagonal simply does not correspond to reality.

At this moment you feel that you have been deceived somewhere, because Apple is only playing with numbers, not facts.

In addition, the OLED screen of the Ten can hardly be called the best on the market among flagships. The maximum brightness of the smartphone is almost two times lower than that of competitors in its class. There is a high probability that the restriction was made artificially. But does this radically change the situation? No.

In the end, what do we get? Difference between iPhone X and iPhone 8 plus in terms of display - minimal, and in some respects the newer flagship is inferior to the Eight

Face ID vs Touch ID

There are also several questions about Face ID technology. At first you will think that they will be concerned about the speed of work, but there are no serious problems here. But in general, questions arise precisely about the appropriateness of its use. Now let's explain what the point is. We are willing to bet that, for example, two twins, and there are quite a few of them in the world, the technology will not be able to distinguish. This is not always possible even for a human, let alone an ordinary camera.

But Touch ID copes with the task of preserving the integrity of the phone with a bang! Because despite the similarity of identical twins, each person's fingerprints are unique.

Therefore, the claim that Face ID is more reliable than its predecessor seems unfounded.

Users experience a number of irritations that the phone is now constantly looking at the owner. This makes it no longer possible to control the screen unlocking process. Now, as soon as the screen lights up, Ten begins to look for someone’s face in order to unlock it. As a result, this situation can greatly impact battery life. Including if Face ID notices someone else’s face, or the flagship seems to have noticed it, then the owner will have to enter a password. Yes, yes, 10 does not provide the ability to re-read. By the way, for this reason an incident arose during the September presentation.

It is also worth remembering that to unlock the innovative sensor you need to see both eyes. If you close your eyes, which quite often happens in the sun or when you turn on the phone in the dark, then it may not recognize you, which means you must enter the password again.

New gestures

Also in the Ten there are several new gestures that regular owners will have to get used to. Perhaps, due to negative feedback, they may be modified with the new update, but now, for example, applications are minimized by moving from the bottom edge of the display. Previously, this was how the control center was called up, which has now been moved to the upper right corner. And moving between applications occurs using a half-folding gesture or right and left along the bottom edge of the screen. It would seem, why change? Perhaps this is intuitive? No, not intuitively. After all, owners of early models are accustomed to:

  • the notification center is at the top;
  • the control center is on the contrary from below;
  • multitasking is activated by double-clicking the Home button.

Now everything is turned upside down. If you have previously used other phone models from Apple, this will create a number of problems, but if this is your first device, then it will not bring any special problems.

The information content of the status bar is extremely limited. This fact makes the Ten owners feel the most. After all, why do we need to know the signal strength when we don’t see more important indicators:

  • battery percentage;
  • is the alarm clock turned on?
  • does screen orientation lock work, etc.

All this can be found out, but only if you additionally call the control center. But why then was it necessary to shove a bunch of uninformative pictograms here? Perhaps this will be fixed in the future, but there is not much hope for this.

Why should you buy the iPhone 8 Plus?

There are absolutely adequate reasons for this:

  1. The first reason has to do with cost. The fact is that 8 plus for 256 GB, and this is the maximum version, will cost the same, and maybe even a little cheaper, than Ten for 64 GB. Real retail, official prices.
  2. For content consumption, the old 16:9 screen aspect ratio with a diagonal of 5.5 inches still seems much cooler than the iPhone 10. Yes, the Ten is more convenient in terms of size, because the flagship fits in the hand and at the same time it has a rather large screen. But on the old format display it is still more convenient to consume content.
  3. Technically, the 8+ is not at all behind the tenth model: the same processor, the same GB of RAM. Yes, its second camera does not have the same stabilization as the 10. But is this so critical? Otherwise, the old form factor is more familiar.

Yes, the Tenth model does not have a “Home” key and the manufacturer offers new interface control logic, but these are not the features that are worth paying for, given the economic situation and average wages. But here everyone decides for himself.

Results

If we sum up all of the above, a strange feeling arises. On the one hand, you are diligently looking for serious advantages in the anniversary iPhone in order to sincerely admire this flagship. But, on the other hand, the more you understand its functionality, the more minor shortcomings catch your eye.

It seems that the Eight did not deserve the first number, but then the Ten does not live up to the revolution. Plus, this is accompanied by an inadequate price, at least in Russia, and this can play a cruel joke on the company.

Personally, in our comparison of iPhone X and 8 plus, the latter wins, because there are no complaints about it, except perhaps for a slightly boring design. But if you do not change iPhones every year, then this will not be a big problem, but, on the contrary, you will appreciate all its positive aspects.
