How to make a TV tuner from an old TV. How is it possible to make a full-fledged TV from a computer monitor

The question of the advisability of using TVs as monitors arises against the background of a steady trend of reducing the cost of the first and improving the quality of the image and the size of the diagonal. Let's try to find the answer to it.

I must say that in addition to its main purpose - broadcasting television programs, modern televisions are used as multimedia players (a screen in a home theater), as well as devices that display images from game consoles. And models with support for SmartTV can generally be an alternative to a computer. And all this is good, is the TV capable of providing full-fledged work with text files, graphic images or video editing?

The bulk of TV models does not imply a prolonged presence of a person in front of their screen. A picture characterized by extreme brightness, contrast and saturation is tiring on the eyes. And the presence of all kinds of uluchshayers, the purpose of which is to make the image as realistic as possible when viewed from a considerable distance, leads to a deterioration in the clarity of the text on the display. In addition, the presence of embellished color rendition, and besides, the narrowness of the coverage of sRGB color spaces, not to mention AdobeRGB, does not allow video and photo editors to work correctly.

Of course, the whole aspect of the capabilities of TVs opens up if you are watching movies on the Internet or active gaming. This statement especially applies to TVs with a large screen diagonal, which significantly increases the realism of everything that happens on the screen. The strengths and weaknesses of TVs when used as monitors for a computer are discussed below.

Positive sides

1 - The absolute trump cards of TVs include their cost, taking into account the size of the screen diagonal. The purchase of a TV will allow you to significantly save money, since its cost is significantly lower than that of monitors with similar dimensions.

2 - TVs have special operating modes that allow, for example, to dynamically highlight dark scenes when watching movies or playing games. Actually, this technology was first used on televisions, and only much later it began to be used on monitors.

3 - The large screen allows you to comfortably work with small details, which is important when editing video. Many videographers have to use two monitors for this, which are installed very close to each other. And of course it is much easier when all the same can be done on one TV with a large diagonal.

4 - An important advantage of a large television screen is the presence of the effect of immersion in the depths of what is happening, regardless of whether you are watching a very interesting film, or an action scene appears in a computer game.

Negative sides

1 - TVs with IPS-matrix have an increased level of contrast, and this inevitably leads to the fact that there is a loss of detail in black shades. This is especially striking if the screen is located at a great distance.

2 - For embellished pictures on TVs, saturation is too high, and this has a negative effect on the ability to perceive colors and does not allow work in photo editors to be performed in the correct mode.

3 - The TV does not provide such clarity as on the monitor if you are surfing the Internet, or you are working with texts. As a rule, this is the fault of the system designed to process images in order to embellish them. On some models it is possible to solve this problem by disabling text anti-aliasing.

4 - If the model with a large screen is installed at a close distance, then on the screen you can see the individual pixels that are components of any image. For this reason, for TVs with a diagonal of more than 32 ″, it is recommended not to use a screen resolution lower than FullHD (1920 × 1080).

5 - If I work for a long time using the TV screen, my eyes get very tired. To a large extent, this is also facilitated by the need to constantly shift the gaze to the left and right on the surface of the large screen, and even more tiring is the movement of the eyes up and down.

6 - A large number of TVs have a picture lag (Input Lag). Intzut lag (not to be confused with the time required for the response of the matrix) is the length of time it takes for the TV to display the signal sent to it on the screen. Simply put, with each action taken, there will be a delay by the value of Input Lag, which can last from 30 ms to 150. While watching a TV show or a movie, this function is practically invisible. The majority of modern TVs have special modes, the use of which can significantly reduce the size of the output delay. In addition, today there are models, such as the Sony KDL-32WD603, in which it was possible to reduce this effect to a minimum level, due to which there is almost no effect on the perception of the picture.

In what ways can you connect a TV to a computer

Connecting a TV to a computer can be done using one of the three main interfaces: VGA (D-Sub), DVI and HDMI. And if with the help of the latter it is possible to broadcast in FullHD quality, then the use of the first two is recommended only when it is not possible to carry out other pairing scenarios.
1 - Connection using the VGA connector. The main interface that allows you to connect a monitor to a computer is the analog VGA port. And therefore, if a decision is made to use a TV as a device with which information will be output, it is quite possible to use this connector. However, it should be remembered that you should not wait for the maximum resolution of the transmitted picture at the FullHD level, so it will be equal to 1600x1200 pixels. In addition, you will have to additionally use a cable with "tulips" (RGA) or "minijack" (3.5 Jack) for sound transmission.

2 - Connection via the DVI interface. Most computer video cards have a DVI port - an upgraded version of the VGA interface. It can be in three forms:

An analog version of DVI-A, which is almost impossible to find, since it is distinguished by low image quality, which is due to the need to convert it into an analog digital signal.

The digital version of DVI-D is perhaps the most widespread type with high signal quality. Two-channel subspecies Dual Link provides a resolution of 2560x1600 pixels at a frequency of 60 Hz, and a single-channel Single Link - 1920x1200 pixels, a frequency of 60 Hz.

The combined version of DVI-I consists of one digital and one analog transmission channel (Single Link). It can also consist of two digital and one analog channels (Dual Link), which work independently of each other. In cases where this port is not among the TV connectors, if it is available on the computer's video card, you can use special DVI-VGA or DVI-HDMI adapters.

3 - HDMI connection. This port is considered the most optimal when the TV is connected to a computer. With its help, it is possible to transmit video with a high resolution level (up to 3840x2160 pixels) and multichannel audio using one cable. Often in the interfaces of TVs there are two to three HDMI-connectors, which makes it possible to simultaneously connect multiple devices. Today, the disadvantages of HDMI connection include a limited cable length (no more than 10 m) and a rather high price.
The disadvantage of connecting with DVI and VGA cables is that the connectors are screwed. And this means that in the event that someone accidentally touches these cables with his foot, damage to both the TV and the video card of the computer occurs.

When planning the purchase of a TV, for its use as a monitor, you need to clearly understand what scenarios it will be intended for in the first place. So if you plan to actively work with office applications and browsing on the Internet, then you can limit yourself to a 32-inch TV. But for gaming or watching videos with maximum immersion, you should choose models with a diagonal in the range from 36 ″ to 50.

It turns out to be not such a difficult task. To make a monitor or TV from an old tablet or laptop, it is enough to buy an inexpensive additional device (scaler) and possibly a cable for connection. Below in the video everything is described in detail. Was surprised. I thought a lot.

Well, just a full-fledged TV, do it yourself.

It will probably be useful. Review of universal scalers.

And this is if you come across a faulty monitor with a “blinking indicator” defect. Not everything is lost. The matrix can definitely be used. And repairing the power supply is also not difficult. Can be restored.

Hello everyone. Recently, very often you can see articles and videos about alterations of old matrices from laptops, killed monitors to full-fledged TVs. This alteration will be discussed in this article, but before that, a little background.

About a year ago, they brought me a monitor for repair, in which the backlight power wire caught fire. The matrix itself was not damaged, but part of the organic glass, which serves as a diffusing lens, burned out. Also, 2 backlight lamps burst and the inverter itself burned out. Having announced the price of the repair to the owner, he decided not to repair it. After a while, I bought this monitor for spare parts.

After a few months, I decided to try to restore this monitor using the minimum budget. Since a beautiful picture could not be expected, instead of CCFL lamps, I installed a regular LED strip on 12 volts, having previously selected the brightest on the radio market. To implement the backlight on, I used a field-effect transistor, which supplied power to the LEDs, having received a backlight turn-on signal from the main board. I will describe below how this is done. The monitor started working, and at the same time I was very pleased with the picture quality. If you look closely, you could see small covenants from above, but they did not bother me.

So the monitor worked for several months, exactly until the moment when I needed another TV, not a large diagonal. To accomplish this task, I decided to use a universal scaler (monitor controller).

What is needed to convert a monitor to a TV?

For the alteration, we need:

Choosing a scaler

In fact, there are a huge variety of scalers, but I will consider only those that are suitable specifically for converting a monitor into a TV. These boards are called universal for a reason, since they support almost all matrix models that exist. After reading various articles about these boards, I found out that 3 universal scalers are most suitable for the implementation of my task.

Monitor backlight

The backlight of the monitor can be done in 2 ways: using lamps or Led LEDs. To determine the type of backlight, you need to disassemble the monitor and get to the matrix.

After disassembling, pay attention to which wires come out from the side of the matrix. If the connectors are of the same type as in the picture below, then you have a backlight on lamps, the so-called backlight.

CCFL backlight

In this case, you need to order an inverter for CCFL lamps.

The number of lamp connectors determines how many channels an inverter is needed. Typically, monitors use 4-lamp inverters. If you want to remake the matrix from a laptop, then only one lamp is used there, and an inverter needs an appropriate one.

If there are no such wires, and there is a 6-pin connector at the bottom of the monitor, then you are using Led backlight. Then a Led inverter is needed.

Led inverter

If no wires from the matrix come out, and one loop is connected, then you do not need an inverter, it is already on the matrix board itself.

Choosing a loop from the scaler to the monitor

The choice of a loop must be taken very seriously, since the performance of the entire system depends on it. I did not buy a loop, but I changed the old one using the datasheet, you can buy a ready-made one. What to choose, decide for yourself, I will describe both methods.

To determine the type of loop, go to the site http://www.panelook.com, and enter the name of our matrix in the search bar. You can see the name itself on the sticker located on the back of the matrix.

sticker on the matrix. Model CLAA170EA 07Q

After that, we get all the necessary information, which we also have to choose the firmware.

Matrix information.

Let's take a closer look.
Diagonal Size: The size of our matrix. In our case, 17 inches.
Pixel Format: Expansion of the screen. Key information for choosing a scaler firmware. In my case, 1280 (RGB) × 1024
Interface Type: This is our ribbon cable connector. For my matrix, I need a 30-pin loop, the LVDS bus must have 2 channels at 8-bit. I will post links to popular loops at the end of the article. I will remake this train from the old one, I will describe the process later.
Power Supply: The supply voltage of the matrix. In my case, it is 5 volts.
Light Source: Here is all the information about the backlight. CCFL means a 4-lamp backlight is used, so an inverter needs to be matched. Above, I have described how to choose a suitable inverter without using this site.

Power Supply

The power supply needs 12 volts. Its power depends on the diagonal of the monitor, should be at least 4 amperes. If there is not enough space in the monitor case, then it is better to buy an external power supply, but I will use a tablet-type power supply, which I will install in the monitor case.

The process of converting a monitor to a TV

Since my monitor is not the first freshness, I chose a scaler without the support of all the bells and whistles, that is LA.MV29.P. If you choose any other scaler, their connections are identical, you will simply use the appropriate firmware.

Delivery took only 15 days. The kit includes the board itself, a remote control and an IR receiver. True, I got the remote control with Chinese inscriptions, but in the links all scalers will be with an English-language keyboard.

I will remake the monitor LG Latron 17 inches

The first step was to disassemble the monitor and remove all the insides.

Removed all the boards, along with the metal casing

After disassembling, I started looking for the most convenient place to install the scaler. Since I have an old-style monitor, and there is a lot of free space in it, the board fits freely there along with the power supply. I installed the board in the upper part of the monitor, and made holes for the scaler outputs with a soldering iron.

Scaler installation site

It turned out something like this.

In order not to forget, I immediately set the matrix power jumper to the 5 volt position. You choose the position based on the datasheet on your matrix, or use the panelook.com website by looking at the value in the Power Supply field.

Jumper that determines the matrix supply voltage

Next, I started connecting buttons. The buttons are very easy to connect. On the old keyboard panel, I removed all the extra resistors, jumpers, and left only the buttons. Further, one end of all the buttons was soldered with a conductor to each other, and connected to the GND terminal (to the ground "-"), and to the second brought the wires out of the board. Which button will be responsible for what on the old board, decide for yourself. I have only 5 buttons on the panel, so I donated the OK button.

Pins GRN and RED indicate the state of the LED. This is done for two color LEDs with 3 legs. One leg connects to ground "-", the second and third legs connect to GRN and RED. I didn't have such an LED, so I connected only the red LED, which lights up when the TV is in standby mode, and goes out when the TV turns on.

According to the IR receiver, there should be no problems, everything is described in the picture.

I did not find the connector, I just soldered the wires to the pins.

Thus laid the wires

As I said earlier, I used my own train. It plugged into the scaler connector normally, but had a completely different pinout. To avoid confusion, I removed all the wires from the connector by pressing the corresponding tab on the contact.

The process of removing wires from the connector

Scaler pinout

I took the matrix pinout from the datasheet. This is how it looks.

Pinout matrix CLAA170EA07Q

The connection turns out to be, as it were, inverse, on one side of the matrix Vcc these are pins 28,29,30, from the matrix side it is 1,2,3.
Please note that on the signals coming out of the scaler, the letter “ T "(transfer), and on the matrix R (received).

For example, we connect the signal from the scaler TXO1- to the pin of the matrix RXO1-, if it's simpler, just don't look at the first letter.

Connector set.

When I finished with this, I proceeded to connect the backlight. Since my backlight is not standard, but already converted, I had to use it as a key, which would turn on the backlight when a signal from the scaler was sent. Who cares about how I connected the transistor, see the diagram below.

NPN field connection as a key

In your case, you just need to connect the inverter to the connector, and everything will work.

Designation of pins for the monitor backlight

Consequences of the previous breakdown of the monitor, traces of a burnt wire on the backlight

Having collected everything to the heap, it remains only to flash the scaler.

Scaler firmware

The choice of firmware must be taken seriously, because if you do not choose the correct firmware, then you can reflash the scaler again only through the programmer.

Let's consider the choice of firmware for the CLAA170EA 07Q matrix.

Matrix information.

We get the following information: 2 channels, 8 bits, extension 1280 x 1024, power supply 5 volts. After downloading the firmware, we are looking for a similar one among the files.

Choice of firmware.

In the file, select the desired extension, bits and matrix supply voltage. We go into this folder and see the file that needs to be unzipped and put in the root of the flash drive.

We connect the USB flash drive to the scaller and supply power to the board. The LED on the panel should start blinking. We are waiting for the LED to stop blinking, after which the TV can be turned on from the remote control or button.

The firmware is located here:

  1. For a tuner with T2, the seller sends the firmware to the cut after purchase. He sent me this: Z. VST.3463.A

After the firmware, I immediately went into the language settings, and set the Russian language. Next, I started auto search.

Auto search for channels.

Scaler channels are excellent. I ordered the speakers later, so I temporarily glued those that were at hand to the thermal glue.

If you have an older or more modern unnecessary LCD monitor, then you can turn it into a full-fledged TV. Or maybe you want to save money on buying a TV for the kitchen, car or garage? This possibility exists, let's consider it.

There are enough methods of using a monitor in the form of a TV. You can make a TV out of a monitor using a set-top box, or add money and connect a mini-computer to an old display. Although there is a more specific way.

How to make a TV out of a monitor - selecting a v56 controller board

Many LCD screens have input and output capability and are called LVDS. When you remove the back panel from the display and get to the inner parts, you will see that the connectors are arranged on a separate board. This board is connected to other parts by a flexible cable similar to IDE for PC drives.

When upgrading the monitor for this interface, you will need to buy a v56 controller expansion card that has an integrated video signal decoder. It is sold in many online stores and on Aliexpress. The decoder provides the ability to display a simple (and if you have a more advanced board, even digital) TV without the use of third-party devices and a PC. This is an important advantage, because we are examining the question of how to make a TV out of a monitor without a computer.

TTX board:

  1. Frequency range - from 48.25 to 863.25 MHz.
  2. Color configuration - SECAM / PAL / NTSC.
  3. Sound configuration - B / G, NICAM / A2, D / K, l, M / N, BTSC.
  4. Number of channels - 200.
  5. Video signal resolution format (HDMI, VGA) - 1920-1080 60 Hz.
  6. Video resolution - 480i, 480p, 576i, 576p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p.
  7. Sound amplifier - 2 - 2.3 W (40) 1 HD + N< 10%-1 KHz.
  8. Power supply - 12 Volts.
Input connectors:
  1. Power supply - 12 volts.
  2. VGA input.
  3. HDMI connector.
  4. Stereo audio and video connector.
  5. Sound connector when using TV as a PC screen.
  6. Headphone out.
  7. USB connector (for firmware updates).
  8. Connector for cable TV or antenna.
In fact, a simple solution ends here: the purchased board and display must be taken to an audio-video equipment service workshop. A few days after the upgrade, you will have a TV. You just need to put it on and connect the cable or antenna. But, if your hands are growing out of the right place, then you can install the board into the monitor yourself. Below we will see how to do this.
  • See How To Make On 2 TVs

How do I know if the board is right for my LCD?

Go to panelook.com. Find your matrix model number there and find out the exact resolution and connection method for your LCD panel. Also, when buying a board, give this information to the seller, he will send you a board with firmware for your model.

How to make a TV out of a monitor with your own hands - step by step installation

First you need to dismantle the back cover of the monitor. Find the right board and remove it - disconnect it from the loop.

Note! It is necessary to remove it very carefully: the train may become unusable even from a strong bend.

Simultaneously with dismantling, you can find the marking of the matrix, find the firmware for it and find information about the voltage.

In the future, you need to connect a new board. There are 2 ways: find a suitable ribbon cable in a Chinese store, or solder it. The second way is long, painful, but for those who know how to solder and have a soldering iron, it is quite possible and much more profitable. But the pinout, sadly, must be selected for a specific model separately.

Then it will be necessary to solve the problem with the completion of the case. The new board will be larger, as it will have a built-in decoder to receive a TV signal. Among other things, you will need to create additional holes in the back cover to access the new connectors.

Further, when you finish the installation, you need to determine the voltage that will pass through the board to the matrix, and adjust it using a jumper (read the annotation for the purchased accessory). Electricity for the board comes from an external power source. It will take 12 volts - just such a voltage is needed for the display to work. Also, if you want, you can turn on the power from the board and get rid of unnecessary wires.

The board purchased for the purpose of upgrading, in most cases, contains an infrared sensor in the kit, as well as a remote control. In the most budgetary modifications, you will need to pay attention to the output of the receiver to the front panel of the device. The receiver can be connected to more expensive cards using an external port, as was previously done on old PCI TV tuners. This solution does not need additional holes and can be placed wherever it is convenient.

Then, after going through all the installation steps, you need to check the resulting TV for operability and make the settings, following the instructions.

So we figured out the question: how to make a TV using a monitor. Despite the probable difficulties with dismantling, installation and adjustment, this transformation of the display is fully expedient. Most have old, idle 17- and 19-inch monitors. The cost of such used screens is quite low, and the picture quality is often not particularly worse than a new TV. This is a perfect option for, for example, a small room, kitchen or summer cottage for a small cost - $ 12-50, depending on the functionality and configuration.
  • Schematic diagram
Video on how to make a TV out of a monitor with your own hands:

The monitor is like a TV and vice versa - these devices are interchangeable.

Before you start exploring the process of converting a display to a TV, take a look at the source material. In principle, is it possible to make a full-fledged TV out of a computer monitor? If the display is not too old, chances are that it already has a built-in decoder for getting a TV picture. In this case, you're in luck, and the whole transformation won't take much time or money. It's another matter if there is no such tuner. We'll have to look for the appropriate board.

It is not easy to install it yourself, it is better to turn to professionals, since in case of an unsuccessful attempt, you simply have to throw out the display.

The work on installing a new board is not so expensive - in the range of 1,000-1,500 rubles, and after that the monitor will become a real TV. So, before embarking on a radical transformation of the device with your own hands, assess your opportunities and risks.

Important information for deciding whether to rework your monitor

What is the difference between a monitor and a TV? Why, in general, do you need to redo something, because both devices have a video signal, does it require any additional settings? Yes, it does, and the monitor and TV really have differences:

  • TVs have a wider range of sizes;
  • to view the picture, you need to be near the monitor, while TV can be watched at a decent distance;

The monitor has a higher resolution and supports more formats than a TV.

  • displays have only advanced frame scan;
  • monitors do not have remote control capabilities.

And one more important difference: monitors are cheaper than TVs. So you can save a lot if, for example, you have an old display and no TV for a summer residence. But for such a rework, you need to know some details of the device and the principles of the display.

What you need to know about sound

Modern monitors may have built-in speakers for sound reproduction, but they tend to be too weak. Such sound for watching TV programs is unlikely to suit you, so you need to consider connecting external audio playback devices. And again we return to the starting point - the release date of the monitor. The relatively recent models have a speaker outlet. Connecting sound in this case is very simple - you just need to insert the outputs of the equipment into the corresponding connectors. No. 4. Connectors are marked in different colors, usually white and red

All that remains is to adjust the playback volume. Instead of speakers, you can use headphones if that's convenient for you. For displays that do not have an output for speakers, you will have to connect the sound in a roundabout way - through an additional board or TV-box to the monitor.

Specificity of the video signal

The main difference between displaying a picture on a monitor and a TV is in the screen resolution. In the display, the pixels are smaller, the resolution is higher. For this reason, it is more difficult to adjust the image and record the program. Why is TV quality better than a monitor in terms of image quality?

The first reason is in the matrix. On a TV, it is adapted so that the image is clearer at different viewing angles. In monitors, the matrix is much more primitive. Her task is to bring the picture to the person sitting directly opposite.

The second reason is that there is no interference suppressor in the monitor. In principle, they do not exist in a computer video signal, but in a television signal, even digital, they are. And finally, the third reason is the lack of brightness control on most display models. There are, of course, exceptions, but they are expensive, and hardly anyone seriously thinks about how to use such a monitor as a TV.

What are the external TV tuners for the monitor?

Tuners for receiving a TV signal are built-in and external. If you are going to make a TV instead of a monitor, you will most likely need an external tuner. This fixture connects to a wall outlet, antenna and display. External tuners are divided into two types.

ViewIts features

A small device slightly larger than a standard USB stick. Such a gadget is connected to a laptop or PC via a USB connector. The tuner comes with software. All such devices have an MPEG encoder for decoding a signal in DVD format. Through such a tuner, you can digitize analog video from a VCR and receive a radio signal in FM format. Such devices are not cheap, the quality of the TV signal on them leaves much to be desired.

This device, the size of a man's wallet, connects directly to the monitor and does not require a system unit to operate. With its help, you can watch programs in full screen or part of it, while continuing to use the computer. This device will not provide an opportunity to record a program like a USB tuner, but it does have connectors for connecting a game console or DVD player. Another significant advantage of the standalone tuner is the remote control.

It turns out that a standalone tuner is able to turn a monitor into a full-fledged TV. With it, you can select a different screen scale: 4: 3 or 16: 9.

ADVICE!

There is a huge selection of TV tuners on sale now. Do not rush to make a purchase, carefully study the capabilities of the model and its compatibility with your monitor.

Choosing and connecting a TV tuner for your computer

The most affordable way to make a TV out of a computer monitor is to connect an external tuner to it. Let's figure out how to choose it correctly and connect it correctly.

How to choose a digital TV receiver and monitor converter

How to choose the right TV tuner to make a TV out of a computer monitor? The first is to match it to the broadcast standard. For a monitor, it is better to take DVB-T, it is not so modern, but it will certainly suit you. Second, if you want to view movies downloaded from torrents on the Internet through the set-top box, you need it to support avi and (or) mkv formats with AC-3 sound support.

For a country TV, there is no need to install a satellite dish. You can completely limit yourself to the simplest Chinese option. It will be quite worthy to receive a decimeter signal. In places with reliable reception, you can completely do with a homemade wire antenna. About the nuances of choosing a converter in this small video.

How to connect a TV tuner to use your monitor as a TV

To connect a TV tuner to a computer screen, you need to additionally purchase a special cable, an antenna cable and the antenna itself. In addition, there should be two sockets in the area where the tuner is located: for it and the display. Accordingly, the antenna is connected to the tuner through the antenna cable, and the device itself to the monitor through the digital cable.

Standalone tuners have integrated speakers, but they are weak. Better to connect an external acoustic device - speakers. And if possible, then a subwoofer. Don't expect a tandem display and an HD picture tuner, but otherwise everything will work just fine, especially if you have an LCD monitor. For a summer residence or kitchen, it will do quite well.

In front of such a "TV" you need to sit directly opposite so as not to lose the picture, and you need to watch programs in the light. In dim light, the image will become too flat.

NOTE!

Standalone tuners may have a VGA input, and not all displays have one.

How can you remake a monitor to make a TV out of it without a computer

The success of the whole business depends on the quality of the source material. So before starting a direct conversation about how to make a monitor from a TV with your own hands, we note that the easiest way is to work with products of Korean origin. The displays from Samsung are the most picky in this regard. In second place are LG and Sony. The rest of the monitors are more capricious in the alteration.

To power the speakers, connect them to the USB port on the tuner.

The rest of the settings are the same as on the CRT monitor.

And if on the contrary, a TV instead of a monitor

The temptation to put, instead of a conventional display, a TV with a large diagonal is very great. Imagine how gorgeous modern toys will look with a detailed picture on such an area. And one more curious observation: if you take TVs with a small diagonal, then they are more expensive than monitors of the same size. But with a large diagonal, for some reason, the opposite is true - the price of a 27-inch display is comparable to a 32-inch TV. So, of course, in this case it is more interesting to take TV.

Fundamentally: which is better TV or monitor for a computer

Here the question immediately arises: what if suddenly you no longer need a large screen for games? Well, in this case, the TV can be used for its intended purpose, but the display will have to be completed or altered. It so happens that the TV as a monitor for a computer is universal.

If you are considering TV for toys, then pay attention to the 4K models.

Diagonals from 49 will be simply luxurious in this role. For advanced gamers, it's hard to imagine anything better. Unmatched sensations and full immersion in virtual reality are provided to you. If you are a fan of tanks, try at least once on the 60-inch diagonal, just remember to return to the real world.

For those who work with graphics and photo editors, we can recommend Korean models with PLS matrices with a diagonal of 49 and a panel at 120 Hz. They are distinguished by excellent color reproduction.

How to combine TV and PC

Now consider,. The first step is to select the appropriate cable for connecting your PC. There are three types of video output in computers:

  • HDMI- to connect high standard picture and sound;
  • DVI- for transmission of images in digital mode;
  • VGA- for transferring images in analog quality.

In our case, it is best to use HDMI, you will get the best image quality. The main thing is to have a similar connector on TV.

How to connect a processor to a TV:

  • install the appropriate cable to the PC and TV connectors;
  • select the signal source - HDMI in the TV menu;
  • configure the computer for video signal transmission - to do this, press the "Display" key on or select the "Multiple displays" tab and the "Projector" function in the screen properties menu;
  • adjust the TV screen resolution if necessary.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION!

If you have an HDMI input on your TV but not on your PC, you can use a dedicated adapter. But in this case, the TV must be disconnected from the power supply before connecting.

What's the bottom line? A TV and a monitor are interchangeable things. To redesign the display, you can use an external TV tuner and, and in order to use the TV as a monitor, just an HDMI cable.
