Setting up the Apple clock. How to use the Walkie Talkie app on Apple Watch

Contains a new feature – fall detection. The feature is enabled by default if you are over 65 years old. If a fall leaves you unable to move for more than a minute, the watch will call emergency services and send messages to your emergency contacts. Below we'll show you how to enable and use fall detection.

More about the feature

“Fall detection is a feature we hope you never need. But it’s still nice to know that it’s there,” said Jeff Williams at the Gather round presentation in September of this year.

Key points:

  • Apple Watch Series 4 recognizes falls and monitors your condition after them.
  • If the user is 65+ years old, the feature is enabled by default.
  • The function is activated when the watch's sensors detect a strong fall.
  • The watch activates a sound as well as a notification on the display.
  • If you don't close the notification, the watch will call emergency services.

Apple describes the feature best:

Featuring new accelerometer and gyroscopeApple Watch Series4 can detect falls. If the Apple Watch Series 4 you're wearing detects a large, hard fall, it will provide a haptic alert, play a sound, and display an alert. You can contact emergency services or dismiss the alert by clicking “There was a fall, but everything is fine” or “No fall.”

Requirements for the function to work:

Here's what you'll need to use the new feature:

  • Apple Watch Series 4 and later.
  • watchOS 5 and later.
  • Active "Wrist Detection" function.

Fall detection on the new Apple Watch uses a new, more sensitive accelerometer and gyroscope, so the feature is exclusive to the Series 4. For example, it can detect twice the dynamic range.

Thanks to the new Apple S4 Accelerated Chip, Series 4 can capture motion information up to 8 times faster than older models. Data from the sensors is processed by machine learning algorithms, the trajectory of your wrist is analyzed and it is calculated whether there was a fall.

How to enable Fall Detection onApple Watch

1) Open the application Apple Watch on your iPhone.

2) Select a tab My watch.

3) Select Emergency call -SOS.

4) Fall detection.

Now you need to add your age (if you haven’t entered it before), as well as edit your Medical Card and add emergency contacts to whom your location will be sent after a fall.

5) Open the application Health on your iPhone.

6) Select a tab Medical card.

7) Click Change, if you already have a Medical card, or Create.

8) Enter your date of birth so that the watch knows your age. Also fill out other information.

8) Now click green plus and select contact, which you want to add as an emergency. Also indicate what kind of relationship you have with him.

You can add multiple emergency contacts, but you cannot add an emergency number as a regular contact. To delete an emergency contact, press the red minus sign and select Delete.

To make your medical record available on the lock screen, turn on the On a locked screen. In an emergency situation, these medical records will be useful to people who want to help.

9) Click Ready to save changes.

Also make sure you have Wrist Detection enabled, which is required for Fall Detection to work.

10) Open Settings on the watch itself or in the iPhone app.

11) Select Basic.

12) Click on the switch next to Wrist recognition.

Wrist recognition automatically locks your watch when you're not wearing it to protect your sensitive data.

How to use Fall Detection onApple Watch

Here's what the watch will do after it detects a fall:

  • Providing a tactile signal.
  • Play a sound signal.
  • Display a warning.

On the alert you will be able to choose three options:

  • Emergency call -SOS: Call emergency services, send messages to emergency contacts, and record a fall in the Health app.
  • There was a fall, but everything is fine: The watch will understand that you are fine, but will add a record of the fall to the Health application.
  • There was no fall: The watch will realize that it has detected motion incorrectly.

Over time, the fall detection algorithm will only improve.

If you want to call emergency services, swipe the slider Emergency call – SOS on notice. The watch will call an ambulance. The watch will not automatically call the service if you are able to move, and will wait until you press the notification yourself.

If the watch does not detect your movement within 60 seconds, the following will happen:

  • CountdownSOS: 15-second countdown to call emergency services.
  • Tactile signal: You will feel a tactile signal for 15 seconds.
  • Sound signal: A loud buzzer is activated to attract the attention of those nearby.
  • Emergency call: When the countdown ends, emergency services will be automatically called. In addition, messages will be sent to your emergency contacts with your location and information that you have fallen and emergency services have been called.

When the watch starts an emergency call, you can Cancel. If the call is already in progress, but you do not need help, it will be possible Complete. If your wrist detection is disabled, emergency services will not be called automatically.

False alarms

Fall Detection is not perfect. According to Apple, the more active you are, the more often the feature will not work correctly.

Apple WatchNot all falls are detected. The more physically active you are, the more likely Fall Detection will be triggered by a high-impact movement that could be detected as a fall.

Apple designed the feature so that it could only detect severe falls. In the video below you can see proof that the function cannot be activated by falling on a soft surface.

The Wall Street Journal wrote the best review of the Series 4. Not only did she test out the smartwatch's various features, but she also hired a professional Hollywood stuntman to test out Fall Detection.

In this article we will tell you how to properly set up your Apple Watch, as well as how to start using it.

Navigation

Apple Watch is almost a full-fledged computer that is always on your wrist. This watch will show you the latest data, where it is needed and when it is relevant. Moreover, the device allows you to instantly connect with loved ones and perform common tasks in a few seconds.

If you have just purchased such a gadget, then at first you may experience some difficulties in working with it, so a guide has been specially prepared, from turning it on to installing applications.

How to set up Apple Watch?

Stage 1: Full charge

After unboxing your brand new Apple Watch, you first need to fully charge it. Even if they have at least a little charge, you won’t be able to fully use the functionality. To do this, you will first have to completely “feed” the device.

Stage 2. Sync with iPhone

  • When you turn it on, first of all, select a language.
  • Next, you will have to wait for some time until the automatic setup takes place.
  • Now open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, which is installed as standard in the latest versions of iOS.
  • The watch will display beautiful patterns that form a figure, and the camera on the iPhone will turn on.
  • You've probably scanned QR codes more than once. This process is almost no different. If for some reason you cannot use the camera, you can pair it using a six-digit code.

Stage 3. Selecting a working hand

  • Now decide for yourself which hand you will wear the device on and accept the terms and conditions for using the services.
  • Next, register using your Apple ID.

Alerts for installation from Siri, Location Service and Diagnostics, which will come with the iPhone, will appear. If Location Service is enabled on your smartphone, it will also be enabled on your watch.

Step 4. Security setup

  • Your Apple Watch will be prompted to enter a six-digit passcode to unlock the device.
  • Next, you will be asked if you want to remove the lock from your smartphone as well.
  • If you press "No", then the watch will remain accessible for the entire time until you remove it from your wrist.
  • If you agree, the lock will be removed only when the smartphone is active, and in other cases you will have to enter a password.

Stage 5. Waiting

Now you will have to wait a bit until all the data is synchronized. You can track your progress using the indicator that glows around the Apple icon. It is worth saying that even when you are shown that the operation is completed, it will still continue for some time.

Stage 6. Setting up the dial

To adjust the watch face, hold the watch wheel until the watch face shrinks. This will mean that everything was done correctly.

Scroll through the images until you find the one you like best. Tap on it to select. If you want to change the setting, select “Customize” below. Now the dial will be enlarged, but will already have an outline and several dots at the top.

The main screen allows you to change parameters such as color. To open more screens to customize, swipe sideways.

For each, you can change settings by scrolling the wheel. By the way, sometimes you need to click on it. That is, working with the clock is carried out by pressing at different intensities and scrolling.

Stage 7. Dive into settings

The Apple Watch, just like the iPhone, has many settings. Some can be done directly through the menu of the gadget itself. The parameters are divided into groups. Check them all out because there's a lot of good stuff in there. The Sound&Haptics item requires special attention, since the volume of notification playback is adjusted here.

By the way, it is better to make the vibration maximum. If this is not enough for you, you can adjust "Prominent Haptics"(Noticeable vibration) which causes the watch to vibrate until you receive any action.

Step 8: Set up Apple Pay

This option is activated by double-clicking the main button, but the system will not immediately work with cards. First you need to set up payments. To do this, open Passbook & ApplePay on your iPhone. Here, there is a function “Mirror My iPhone”, which allows you to become accessible to all bank accounts from the iPhone on the watch.

If you need to pay, double-click on the main button. But the payment will only take place if the watch is on your hand and if your smartphone is unlocked via Touch ID. Thus, no stranger will be able to use your watch to make payments.

Step 9: Setting up activity trackers

Apple has several health apps, but the one that stands out is the Activity App. It constantly tracks several parameters: steps taken, exercises performed and time spent standing. At the same time, the watch will always notify you that you have been sitting for a long time and need to take a walk.

But without activating the Activity App, this will not be available.

On the display, look for the function icon - three circles are drawn on it. If you enter your own body data into the Health app, it can also be tracked from the Apple Watch.

Step 10: Setting up notifications

As a rule, the watch receives absolutely all notifications received on the iPhone.

If you don't need this, open Settings. For each program, you will have to open a new screen to turn off notifications. If there are too many programs, the process will take a little longer.

Step 11. Setting up the music

There are several things that the watch can do without an iPhone, and these include playing music.

In order for your Apple Watch to start playing music, you need to sync it with iTunes or any other application on your iPhone. Just activate synchronization in both programs - Apple Watch and the player.

Step 12. Contact settings

All contacts on the iPhone are synchronized by default.

To open them, press the side button of the device and turn the wheel. In addition, you can immediately make your own list with your favorite numbers.

How to use Apple Watch correctly?

Turn on with a twist of the wrist

To increase battery life, the watch screen turns off quickly. In general, it should always be activated when you raise your wrist and turn off when you lower it. Or if the clock is inactive for several seconds.

Turning on the display at a certain time will take some getting used to, but there is another way. The backlight can be turned on by touching the screen.

In this case, they will burn for 70 seconds. Launch the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and change the backlight time to 70 seconds.

Digital Crown

This wheel is used in different ways. With a single click you can:

  • Turn on screen
  • Switch between home screen and watch face

Smart watches from Apple are becoming more and more popular. For the most part, it was possible to achieve such demand thanks to the enormous functionality of these devices. Most new Apple Watch owners cannot figure out the settings on their own, so for them we have prepared this short review, in which we will understand in detail how to use the Apple Watch.

The watch is designed with only two physical buttons, but they allow you to use all the many functions to their fullest potential. The top button resembles the wheel that winds a mechanical watch, but it is a digital crown. Using it you can, for example, enlarge any image on the display.

This crown will also display the device on the home screen, where you can see icons of all installed applications. Just click on it once and you can start selecting widgets. By holding the crown, you can call Siri; for the same purpose, use the voice command Hey Siri, whichever is more convenient for you.

Double-clicking on the treasured key will take you to the watch screen, or vice versa, open the last used application. Each owner can get universal access to the Apple Watch; they will have to use the same crown and press it three times.

To see the list of contacts, just activate the power button once, it is immediately under the crown. Also, by holding this key, you can turn off the device or turn it on. You can activate Apple Pay by double-clicking on the power button, although this is only useful for those owners who are holders of a plastic card from one of the American banks.

Synchronization with an iPhone will take you very little time; for this, the Apple Watch program must be installed on your smartphone. To establish pairing, scan the patterns that appear on the watch screen after the camera is automatically activated on the iPhone. If this method is inconvenient for you or the camera is faulty, you can synchronize by entering a six-digit code.

Once your devices are synced, go through the Apple ID sign-up process. Accept the terms of the license agreement and click "ok", after which you will be prompted to download some applications. All suggested applications should be installed, as they are specifically designed for the Apple Watch to unlock all its capabilities.

In principle, this data is quite enough for any novice smartwatch user, however, their management and configuration are of course not limited to this; in fact, there are much more possibilities.

In the box with the Apple Watch Series 3, we found a meager gentleman's set: an induction charging tablet, a 1 A plug, a silicone strap with one additional clasp of a different length, and documentation.

Modifications

Apple Watch Series 3 with eSIM support, as well as Hermès and Edition modifications, unfortunately, are not presented in Russia. This means that we don’t sell variations with sapphire glass, steel or ceramic cases either.

What you can choose: one of two sizes (38 mm and 42 mm), one of four colors of the silicone strap (smoky, pink, gray and black), depending on which one of three colors of the aluminum case will be offered (silver, gold and “ gray space").

There is also a modification of Nike+ for athletes and fans of the brand of the same name - with thematic design of dials and special mesh straps.

There is no difference in specifications depending on size. The difference in price is small - relative to the cost of the watch itself. Therefore, here you should be guided only by personal preferences. I have an Apple Watch with a case length of 38 mm, and I really like it, I don’t feel disadvantaged, I don’t want a “full-length” version.

Frame

The only controversial point is the choice of a specific Apple Watch model. At the moment, models of the first and third series are officially on sale. If you need a remote control for iOS devices, an activity tracker, and a workout tracker, the Apple Watch Series 1 is enough. If it is waterproof and tracks swim laps in the pool, listens to music without a smartphone, and has hardware reserves for the future, it is better to choose the Apple Watch Series 3.

Apple Watch Series 3 is the latest generation of smartwatches from the Cupertino tech giant. Unlike their predecessors, they are equipped with a stand-alone LTE module that works via a built-in eSIM (not yet supported in Russia), thanks to which they can be used even without a smartphone. But it will still be required to activate the device.

To turn it on, press and hold the “long” (not round!) side button until the manufacturer’s logo appears on the display.

If after 10-15 seconds of holding the long side button the screen does not flash and the device does not turn on, make sure that it is sufficiently charged. Connect the “charger” and leave it for 30 minutes. After that, you can try to turn on the device again.

For the initial setup, you will also need a smartphone updated to the latest version of iOS, with Bluetooth turned on and an active Internet connection (via a mobile network or Wi-Fi).

In order to initially set up your smartwatch, you will need an iPhone with Internet access. How to connect these two devices:

  1. Turn them on;
  2. Bring your watch to your iPhone. Wait a while until a message appears on the phone screen prompting you to use your smartphone to make settings. Click “Next” there. If it doesn't appear, check Bluetooth - it should be turned on. You can also open the corresponding application and click the “Create a pair” button;
  3. After this, a special animation will appear on the watch screen, and the smartphone will turn on the camera through which it will recognize it. Place the companion device's display in the center of the viewfinder as shown in the tips. If automatic recognition does not occur, click the “Create a pair manually” button. The wizard will demonstrate instructions for pairing devices;
  4. Choose which hand you plan to wear the watch on;
  5. Agree to all terms of use;
  6. Enter your Apple ID password.

When initially activated, the smartwatch copies the settings profile from the connected smartphone. That is, if Wi-Fi, GPS, Siri, etc. are enabled on the iPhone, they are automatically activated on the companion device. Wireless network passwords will also be transferred along with the rest of your data.

You can enable WiFi on Apple Watch 3, as well as disable it or configure other settings directly in the corresponding window of the initial setup wizard.

In the Initial Setup Wizard you can also:

  • Set a login password. It will be activated when this accessory is removed from your hand;
  • Set up a branded payment service;
  • Install applications from the AppStore.

During the initial setup process, various usage tips will be shown on the smartphone screen.

The program for tracking physical indicators is called “Activity” and is pre-installed watchOS software, that is, it is ready to work immediately after the initial setup.

Instructions on how to enable or disable activity tracking are shown directly in the initial setup wizard on your smartphone. There are also hints in the application itself.

The donut chart interface displays the following metrics:

  • The number of calories burned during movement (the “Mobility” parameter);
  • Total duration of movements (parameter “Exercises”);
  • The number of hours in the current day in each of which you moved for at least 1 minute (the “Warm-up” parameter).

To view detailed information about each parameter, you need to swipe up on the screen with pie charts.

The “Exercise” and “Warm-up” parameters are not configurable. “Mobility” can be changed with a strong tap on any screen - after this, a screen will open with settings for the number of calories that need to be burned to achieve the daily goal.

Reminders about the need to “walk” are configured in the control application on the smartphone, in the “My Watch” - “Activity” tab.

No way. This model, like the previous ones, is not equipped with a built-in blood pressure monitor and therefore cannot measure blood pressure.

To measure your pulse, you need to launch the “Pulse” program from the application menu. In addition, the device constantly analyzes heart rate when the “Training” mode is active, as well as 3 minutes after its completion.

When you first open the Pulse program, the application will offer to enable notifications about increased heart rate in the absence of physical activity. If necessary, this function can be activated.

To measure heart rate, photoplethysmography technology is used, i.e. The pulse is analyzed by the degree of light transmission of blood in the vessels under the skin.

As a result, the quality of heart rate measurement may vary depending on how the photocells adhere to the skin, skin color, the user's health status, and other factors. The exact value may differ by several beats per minute from the measured one, either up or down.

There are no built-in tools for monitoring the quality and phases of sleep in this companion device. Therefore, for tracking, it is recommended to use third-party software that can be downloaded from the AppStore - such as Sleep++, AutoSleep, Sleep Better, Sleep Tracker, etc.

How to track sleep on Apple Watch 3 using third-party software

The operating principle of various third-party software is approximately the same. Required:

  1. Install the desired sleep tracker from the AppStore;
  2. Open the sleep tracker and start tracking mode.

To use the watch as a smart alarm clock, you will also need to install third-party software that supports this function. For example, Sleep++ or similar from the above list.

In order for the proprietary payment service to work, you will need to set a password code. This is described in the instructions for initial device setup. In addition, right in the same menu you can link the card with which you plan to pay for purchases.

To configure the service, if this item was skipped in the initial setup menu, you will need:

  1. Open the Watch application on your smartphone;
  2. Open the “My Watch” tab;
  3. Open the “Wallet and Apple Pay” item;
  4. If you don't have a passcode set on your watch, the app will prompt you to set it right now. Do it;
  5. Click "Add card";
  6. Select a card from among those already linked - or enter the details of a new one;
  7. Enter the card security code;
  8. Click “Next” and wait for information from the issuing bank;
  9. Click Next.

That's it, the branded payment service will work.

To pay in a store, you will need to quickly press the side button on the watch twice and then bring it face down to the terminal. When activated they will vibrate slightly.

If the transaction size exceeds 1000 rubles, you will have to enter the PIN code of the linked card at the terminal to pay.

The watch can only unlock Mac computers and laptops that run macOS High Sierra and support wireless Bluetooth connectivity. In addition, all company devices must be associated with one account. To set up unlocking you need to do the following:

  1. On a computer or laptop, open the “Settings” application, select “Protection and Security”, then “General”;
  2. Check the box next to “Unlock Mac with Watch”;
  3. Enter your account password;
  4. Confirm.

All. Now the computer will unlock automatically.

To charge, you must use the included wireless charger. It is enough to connect it to the network and place the back of the watch on its active surface. The charger is equipped with special magnets that automatically align it.

You can also use AirPower wireless charging.

You can use more than just a household network for charging. The power cable can also be connected to the USB ports of a computer, laptop, external battery (“power bank”) or any similar charger.

Software updates (watchOS) are performed via a linked iPhone smartphone. Instructions:

  1. Set the watch to charge. You cannot remove the charger until the update is complete;
  2. Make sure they are more than 50% charged;
  3. Open the Watch application on your smartphone, in it - the “My Watch” tab;
  4. Select “Basic”, then “Software Update”;
  5. Download the update. If necessary, you will need to enter a password for your account;
  6. The update will be installed automatically;
  7. The update may take time to install. Wait for it to finish. The corresponding indicator will report this.

You can remove the watch from charging only after the update is complete.

No you can not. Apple Watch does not work with Android phones. There is no third-party app that emulates the corresponding iOS software.

However, the user community is looking for another way to connect these two devices. But for now, the answer to the question “Does Apple Watch work with Android” is no, it doesn’t.

First, make sure it's a Watch and not an iWatch or something like that.

How to check Apple Watch upon purchase:

  1. Carry out a visual inspection. Make sure that the case is free of any connectors, including slots for SIM cards or memory cards, charging connectors, etc.;
  2. Turn on your device. Make sure it actually turns on;
  3. Try connecting to your smartphone. If during the initial setup the device prompted you to enter your account information, you can enter it. The main thing is that there is no “Activate Watch” screen.

GPS does not turn off. You can turn it off on your phone, then the number of geolocation requests will decrease slightly.

If your Apple Watch won't charge, you can try the following:

  1. Make sure the power supply is plugged into an outlet and that there is current. Try a different outlet;
  2. Make sure the wireless charger is in contact with the watch and the magnets are aligned. Try reconnecting. Try turning the charger over;
  3. Make sure that the chargers (including the wireless module, cable and power supply) are original and included in the package;
  4. The charger must not have any shipping film on either side;
  5. The charger and watch must be clean;
  6. Try to force restart your watch. Press and hold the round and side buttons for 10 seconds. After rebooting, put it on charge again;
  7. Try a different cable, a different power supply, a different wireless charger.

If they still do not charge, take them to a service center.

The easiest way to reset is to remotely delete all personal data via iCloud:

  1. On your computer, open icloud.com;
  2. Log in to your account;
  3. Select “Find iPhone”;
  4. Select your watch from the available devices;
  5. Click "Erase" and then select "Next" until the process is completed;
  6. Also click the “Delete” button (icon with a cross) next to the name of the watch.

Through the application it is a little more difficult. More details about this will be written later in this manual in Russian (in the section “How to break up a couple”).

In order to reset the watch (to perform the so-called “Apple Watch Restore”), the iPhone associated with it must be connected to the Internet via mobile or Wi-Fi.

The third generation companion device (Apple Watch series 3) has limited support for the Qi wireless charging standard, so may be compatible with some chargers. Try placing the back of it against a Qi-enabled active charger for a few seconds. If charging works, this device can be used.

Before you can sell your watch, you will need to remove your own credentials from it. How to unlink Apple iWatch from Apple ID:

  1. Open the control application on your phone;
  2. Open the “My Watch” tab;
  3. Open the “Information” menu (indicated by the i symbol in the circle next to the name of the watch);
  4. Select “Break pair”;
  5. If you are using a tariff plan, click “Delete tariff”;
  6. Enter your account password;
  7. Confirm your desire to break up the couple.

Unlinking also resets to factory settings.

This may be due to the following:

  • The smartphone to which the smartwatch is connected is currently in use. Then notifications are displayed on it;
  • The watch has a screen lock or Do Not Disturb mode active. Unlock or disable this mode through Control Center;
  • The watch is disconnected from the phone. This is indicated in the Control Center with a special icon. Turn on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on your phone, and on your watch, first activate Airplane mode and then turn it off.

To unlock your watch, tap the screen or briefly press any button, and then enter the passcode you set earlier.

The watches use special straps with a proprietary fastening. It will not work to use a standard spring one, common in analog devices. But to change the strap, it is enough to remove the old one and install a new one in its place until a characteristic click appears.

  1. Turn the clock face down;
  2. Press the strap release button (located next to the strap);
  3. While holding the release button, slide the strap to the side.

To turn off your watch, press and hold the side button until the “Off” slider appears, then slide it.
