First, try to find the picture using search engines. Enter your query and then select the search settings tab. If there is no picture with the required size, then you can fit it to the frame yourself. There are ways. The first is that you first create a document with the desired size and then change the image. The second is the opposite - open the picture and change the size. There is essentially no difference: it all depends on your preferences and goals. The examples will be shown in Adobe Photoshop, but you can also use other graphic editors.

First way. Click "File" - "New..." or the key combination Ctrl+N. A window with settings will appear in front of you. Specify the width, height and required color resolution parameters there. Then open the image you like in the browser, right-click and select “Copy image”. Then return to the program and press Ctrl+V.

The picture will appear in the graphic editor window. Then click “Edit” - “Free Transform” or the combination Ctrl + T. Key points will appear, with the help of which you can adjust the picture to the size of the working window. As soon as you get the desired result (by the way, you can go beyond the boundaries of the work area), click “File” - “Save as ...” or the key combination Ctrl + S.

Second way. You need to first go to your computer, then click “File” - “Open ...” (or the Ctrl + O combination) and select the desired image. Then select “Image” - “Image size...” or press the combination Alt+Ctrl+I. Uncheck “Maintain proportions” and specify the desired size. Then press OK.

• width - 450 pixels;
• height - within 300 pixels;
• resolution - 72 pixels.

Hello. Welcome, Timur Mustaev. I'm glad to see you on my blog. Today I want to touch on a painful topic, how to change the size of a picture in Photoshop. Every day people face this problem and do not know how to do it using the existing Photoshop program in their location.

Today I will tell you everything in detail with attached screenshots, which will allow you to quickly understand how and what to do.

I will show screenshots using Photoshop CS6. If you have a different version, that's okay, the set of tools and tab layout are the same in all versions.

Let's start in order.

First of all, let's open the program itself. We load into it the image that needs to be resized. Uploading a photo is very easy File > Open. In the tab that opens, select the image we need and press the button Open.

I uploaded a photo taken with my camera, weighing 5.5 MB. Photo 4608x3072 pixels (39x26 cm) at a resolution of 300 pixels/inch.

How can I see the size and resolution of a photo? It's very simple. Let's go Image > Image size.

In the window that appears, we can see all the information about the photo and here we can change it.

Typically an image is measured in pixels and varies Width And Height dimensions (under number 1 ). But you can also change Width And Height in the size of the printed copy (number 2 ).

It is advisable not to uncheck the boxes (number 3 ). Only one value should be changed, or Width, or Height, the second value will decrease proportionally.

What do the symbols under the number mean? 4 ? This means that the photo will change in proportions, changing one value, the second changes automatically, according to what is checked - Scale Styles. If you uncheck this box, the scale will disappear and, accordingly, the symbols under the sign will disappear 4 .

As for the resolution. You can set it to 72 Pixels/inch, which is quite enough.

• Firstly, this will affect the size of the photo.
• Secondly, it will not affect the quality.

For example, I need to reduce my photo to a width of no more than 1200 pixels. I can easily change the settings.

Just remember, first we change the resolution, set it to 72 Pixels/inch, and then enter Width 1200 Pixels and press the button OK. Thus, we will see that our photograph has changed.

After which another window will appear where you need to specify the saving details. I set the picture quality 10 , and, as you can see, after saving my volume will be 413 KB. If this is too much for you, you can reduce the quality a little more, for example. set it to 8, thereby reducing the weight accordingly. But just don’t get carried away, otherwise you’ll end up with a very poor quality photo.

That's it. You received a reduced-size and smaller image.

In fact, proportionally enlarging an image (or reducing it) is exactly what everyone needs. With this approach, you simply enlarge all parts and elements of the picture in equal proportions. That is, you will not have any stretching, blurriness, “flattening” and so on. Very convenient.

But in Photoshop, maintaining proportions? Let's try to understand the algorithm of actions. It doesn't matter which version you have installed - new or older. All manipulations are mainly performed using keyboard shortcuts. And they are the same in all “assemblies”.

Proportional change

The first scenario is scaling using You can use this method both to change parts of the image and for the entire picture as a whole.

First you need to select everything that you will scale. For example, the whole picture. Press Ctrl + A. Now look at what happened - a frame has appeared around the edges. Grab any corner with the mouse cursor (it will be marked with a square), and then hold down the Shift button. What's next? Just "pull" the corner of the image. Up - to increase (if you grabbed the top corner) and down to decrease elements. While holding Shift, a proportional change will occur. So the problems are solved. Now we know how to resize an image in Photoshop (or some elements) while maintaining the proportions. But that's not all there is to know about scaling.

Parameters to help

For example, you can maintain all proportions using image parameters. With them you can very quickly figure out how to resize an image in Photoshop. But what should you do to realize your idea?

To begin, open the desired image in the program. Only then will it be possible to think about the next steps. How to resize an image in Photoshop CS6 or any other version using parameters? Look on the top (not the side) that says "Image". Now click on the "Image Size" function there.

A small window with parameters will appear in front of you. A very good way to adjust an image to certain numbers. To maintain the proportions in all this, just check the corresponding menu item, which is written at the bottom of the window. It’s called: “Keep Proportions”. True, this scenario is often used only by professionals, as well as by users who need to literally “adjust” the image to certain parameters. To get to the “Image Size” menu, just press Alt + Ctrl + l simultaneously in Photoshop. After this, a small window with settings will open in front of you. We are already familiar with them. We change the numbers in the fields (in pixels or any other values, depending on your needs), check the box next to “save proportions,” and then click on “Ok.” That's it. Now look at the result. It will be exactly the same as in the previous version. Remember the combination Alt + Ctrl + l. It may still be useful to you. Moreover, this approach reduces image processing time.

Scaling

To be fair, there are other ways to resize an image. We have already studied proportional methods. What's next? Now it’s worth figuring out how to resize an image in Photoshop without this feature. If you have perfectly mastered the options we discussed above, then everything else will seem like a mere trifle to you. After all, regular scaling (arbitrary) is easier than proportional scaling.

To resize a picture in any form, simply select the image (Ctrl + A), then “grab” different corners along the edges. The required places will be marked with a translucent square. Are you ready? You just need to stretch the image using such “markers”.

If during the work you suddenly want to maintain the proportions, then hold down “Shift” before you “release” the square by which you stretched the picture. Proportional scaling will occur. Otherwise, you will “stretch” the image in any shape.

Partially

But what if you need to change the size of some element? As already said, you must first select it. How? There are several options for the development of events.

The first is to use a curly selection. On the tools, find the square drawn with dashes, and then select the selection method. Now use the mouse to “draw” a figure over the area that needs to be separated. That's it.

The second approach is to use a lasso. This tool is also found on the toolbar. The usual "lasso" helps to select a particular area in any form. Magnetic - “snaps” the selection points to the darkest areas in the area where you hovered the cursor. And polygonal - selects entire polygons of the image. The most commonly used is the “magnetic” option. Once selected, you can use any of the described methods to resize the element.

Results

So, today we introduced you to ways to select areas of an image, as well as resizing a picture in Photoshop. As you can see, this is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. The main thing to remember is that proportionality in the program is activated using the Shift key. It will come in handy to you more than once.
