How to fix the top button on iPhone 4. The power button on iPhone does not work

Apple periodically releases new versions of the iPhone. But users, due to habits or simply lack of time, use smartphones for quite a long time. It is human nature to get used to some everyday things, and it is not convenient to part with the established rhythm. This happens with fairly durable iPhones.

Despite such durability, problems still occur. Various types of mechanical breakdowns simply knock you out of the established operating mode. One of these problems is the breaking of buttons or one button.

Let's look at troubleshooting using a specific example - this is a self-repair of the iPhone 4s power button. Let's start by trying to find out the cause of the breakdown. The problem in question with the Power button occurs for various reasons. This, and factory defects in iPhone 4s components, mechanical damage, shock, wear and tear after the device has been in use for a long time. Users often contact the service center on this issue, due to the design of the power key and the fragility of the mechanism of the associated elements. These are spring contacts and a cable that make our power button work. The fact is that in the complete set of the device, namely the elements that activate it, there is a black plastic part resembling a tubercle. This element is fragile and breaks if dropped or otherwise subjected to mechanical impact not intended for the device. In this case, the fragile element of the iPhone button breaks off or crumbles. Of course, if it is absent, the button will no longer function.

Solving the problem with the Power button yourself

Before you start working on your iPhone 4s, consider whether you can carefully and accurately follow iPhone repair recommendations. When repairing this key yourself, you need to know that the cause of the breakdown is a small black plastic element resembling a tubercle. If it is missing, it must be returned to its place, secured with glue. It is located on the train. In order to keep the part original for the device and, if the cable itself is not damaged, you can replace it with similar Chinese components. You can carefully dismantle the fragile element from the cheap version of the cable to the original one. But, if there is a fault on the cable, you will have to replace it entirely. To do this, you can use Chinese components for the iPhone in online stores, for example: AliExpress. Or solve the problem using the services of specialists by contacting a service center. But there is another option for troubleshooting this kind of problem.

Assistive Touch

Apple developers, as if anticipating problems associated with the fragile Power button, added the Assistive Touch function to Settings. After activating this function, a sensitive key will appear on the iPhone screen, which will be a temporary solution to the problem in question. This key is also a lock button at the time of its operation. To enable this function, go to “Settings”, then “General” and “Universal Access”. And there the Assistive Touch function will become available for activation. But unfortunately, this option is only acceptable for a while, until Power can be repaired using one of the described methods.

Troubleshooting

You are not the first, nor will you be the last user whose buttons on an iPhone do not work, regardless of the model. Moreover, different buttons can break - lock (on) or volume (+/-).

What is the reason why iPhone buttons do not work? It’s unlikely that anyone will tell you a definite answer. This may be due to the smartphone falling and hitting one of these buttons. Breakage can also occur due to pressing the button too hard, or due to the use of low-quality components during assembly. In general, anything is possible.

We decided to get to the bottom of the truth and show through practical experience how you can fix the lock button yourself. Read about it below.

Why is the iPhone power button not working?

The answer to this question lies inside the smartphone and is associated with the physiology of its device. The button itself (on the end of the iPhone) cannot break, since it is a piece of iron. Underneath there is a cable with small spring contacts; they are the ones that fail.

The top picture shows a spring contact with a tiny black plastic “pump” in the middle. This little pimp is the root of all troubles. The thing is that over time (as a result of strong pressure or blows) this small black tubercle crumbles and falls off. And without it the button does not work.

That's the whole problem. Now the main thing is to deal with the repairs. It all depends on whether you are ready for the expense or want to repair the phone yourself.

Temporary solution to the problem of a broken iPhone button

There are many instructions on websites on the Internet that supposedly help you fix the iPhone power button. However, almost all of them are lies, since they talk about temporary replacement of the button thanks to a system program. Apple engineers apparently assumed in advance that users might have such a need. To do this, go to “Settings”, then “General”, then “Universal Access”, then AssistiveTouch. After selecting this item, a square button with many functions will appear on the smartphone screen.

The proposed menu has a locking function (category “Device”). Essentially, it functions as the iPhone's lock screen button.

This is the essence of the temporary button replacement, which many users successfully use. Of course, the button remains physically broken. To fix this, read on.

Repairing the iPhone lock screen button

As you remember, the reason for the button failure is a crumbled tubercle. There are 2 ways to fix the problem:

  • - Change the cable completely
  • - Repair the old cable

You can completely change the screen power button cable at a service center or yourself at home. If you have the right hands, and you have the necessary set of tools, then you can easily repair the button yourself and save money. The main thing is that you need to buy a new cable. By the way, this can be done directly on the Chinese website AliExpress.com.

Repairing the cable (and more specifically the spring contact of the button) consists of restoring the integrity of the small tubercle. You can use a blade to remove the bump from the Chinese train, and then glue it back into place in the original train. All work must be carried out very carefully and carefully so as not to damage tiny parts.

In this simple way you can repair the volume or power buttons on your iPhone screen. However, if you have never repaired anything in your life, it is better not to try, but to entrust the work to professionals.

Can't lock your device the usual way? There is no need to rush to throw away the gadget: most likely, the reason lies in the deformation or breakage of the cable. If you are wondering why the lock button on the iPhone 4, 4s does not work, try to remember what has happened to the “mobile phone” recently.

Experts identify the following reasons:

Solving the problem yourself
