How to fix the router on the wall without drilling. Wall holder for modem

It's no secret that today a router is installed in almost every apartment where it is possible to access the Internet. After all, this wonderful device, forever relieved users of the need to connect any device to common network through wires. The router makes it possible to access the Internet anywhere in the apartment, from any gadget. However, routers have one drawback - in different places At home, the quality of the received signal is sometimes very different. This article will look at several simple tips about where to install wifi router in the apartment in such a way that it receives the signal well and provides comfort access to the World Wide Web.

Where should you not put a router?

First of all, consider the places where you do not need to install a router. First of all, near radiotelephones, microwaves, and also where there is wireless equipment operating at frequencies of 2.4 or about 5 GHz. The thing is that the wi-fi router operates at the same frequency indicators as these devices, and therefore strong interference. Also, the places where you cannot install a wifi router are mirrors, as they reflect the signal. It would not hurt to limit the number of devices that stand next to the router - this will eliminate most of the interference. And finally, it is not allowed to install a router behind a wall, especially if it is a carrier. Its thickness will make the use of the router almost impossible, since the signal will be completely absorbed by the wall.

Where in the apartment to install a Wi-Fi router?

  1. Most the best place, where you can install a router in an apartment - this is a wall. And the higher the router is located, the better. At the same time, it is not necessary to look for tall objects to the apartment, since most routers have loops on the back for mounting them on the wall.
  2. The best signal will be when the antennas are in a vertical position. You can try to repeatedly change their position until the signal is improved as much as possible.
  3. If the router is used where one device is used to work with it, then it is better to install the router next to it. You can also connect using twisted pair. In this case, interference will be almost completely eliminated.

Summing up this article, I would like to note that when installing a router, you should not be afraid to experiment, and if you have any difficulties, you can call a specialist who can set up the signal the best way, or read about where it is better to install a router in an apartment on the Internet.

Practice

To ensure optimal signal reception in all rooms of your apartment (from 1 to 3 rooms) and adjacent rooms, follow a simple rule: the fewer walls between the router and your gadget, the better. If you think about how to achieve such a result, you will quickly guess that very often optimal location to place the router is hallway or corridor(although the plans now, of course, are different).

Respectively, It is NOT recommended to place a Wi-Fi router:

  • In places with limited space - niches, behind cabinets, sofas, on a bookcase shelf, etc.;
  • Below - on the floor, under the table and so on;
  • Next to the appliances there is a TV, a refrigerator, a computer, a microwave, a home wireless telephone. Maintain a distance of at least 1-2 meters;
  • Near radiators and in any other places where the air temperature exceeds 40 degrees - otherwise the router will heat up and will not be able to cool down;

More helpful advice- install a router as high as possible, ideally hang it on the wall or put it on a shelf at a height of at least 2 meters. This is how you get the perfect coverage. WiFi networks in the apartment.

By the way, place the router as far away from yourself as possible… enough good for your health:). After all, even today, scientists and doctors have not come to a final conclusion about whether wireless Internet is harmful to the body. But the facts that make you at least think about it have already been collected quite enough. For example, at one time the so-called. "Copenhagen" experiment Danish schoolgirls. In 2013, five girls germinated plant seeds for 12 days exposed to Wi-Fi radiation and without it. As a result, the seeds in the six trays that stood in the isolated room grew normally, while their "buddies" standing next to Wi-Fi routers, could not grow. And a few sprouts turned brown and withered! And in 2010, Dutch scientists tested for WiFi influences trees. After three months exposure wifi signal ash trees "participated" in the study began to show signs of radiation sickness("lead" reflection on the leaves)!

Where to hide the router without losing internet speed? Our tips will definitely help you find the best place for this device.

Looking for the best place for a router

  • When installing the router, pay attention to the fact that there is enough space around it. free space for wires. It will be frustrating if you find the perfect place for the router, and then you can not connect a new cable to it.
  • It is especially important to choose the right environment: the place of installation should be neither hot nor cold. You should also avoid places with high humidity and dust, which can significantly shorten the life of the device. If you don't know what conditions your router can withstand, take a look at the user manual.
  • The router should be located closer to the center of the apartment. Try to place the device near the laid cable networks to avoid additional costs for the wiring of a new cable network.

Hiding a router without signal loss

  • If you want to hide it, it is important that it is in the middle of the area that you want to cover with a WLAN signal. Incorrect receiver placement can result in reduced speed wireless connection or even loss of signal.
  • Do not place WLAN routers in close proximity to heaters, refrigerators, etc. household appliances, as this may interfere with the distribution of .
  • It is very important that you can easily get close to the router. You will probably sometimes need to turn off, turn on or simply restart the device - and it is better to do this without global permutations.
  • Here are some practical ideas on how to hide your router. The first and easiest is to mount it on a mount in an inconspicuous place on the wall. Similarly, it can be attached to reverse side desk. If you have a multi-level ceiling with revision holes at home, try hiding it there.

How to put a router in your apartment? On the one hand, the question is simple, but at the same time it is necessary to take into account many very important points.

Proper installation of the router in a one-story house

Indeed, with its simplicity, this is a responsible task, because the quality of the network around the house or apartment will depend on it.

Proper installation of the router in a 2-story house

In order to achieve best quality network, it is necessary to place the router so that the coverage is optimal.

The principle of operation of the router

Proper installation of the router

Before you start installing it, you need to decide whether you will use it exclusively for wireless connection, or it will be connected to it by wire desktop computer. How many wires will be connected to it will depend on your decision.

WAN and LAN connection routerIn order to achieve the best coverage, the router should be installed as high as possible. This is due to the physics of radio wave propagation.

Proper Router Installation

The ideal place is the outer wall of the corridor, or a tall cabinet, which also stands in the corridor. Why a corridor? Firstly, it is through the front door that the Internet cable from your provider enters. Installing the router around front door, you will deprive yourself of the need to pull the cable throughout the apartment.

The right installation option for an apartment

The second advantage of installing a router in this location is the best signal propagation. The fact is that the corridor is located almost in the middle of the living space, so it is from the corridor that the waves will optimally spread throughout the apartment. Thirdly, safety.

Are Wi-Fi Waves Harmful?

Many scientists and doctors say that wifi waves very harmful to human health. They can affect the functioning of the heart and nervous system. The most unfavorable place for installing a router is a bedroom or a hall where we conduct the largest number free time. To trust it or not is the business of each of us, but it won't hurt to play it safe once again.

Benefits of installing a router at a height

Why is it worth installing a router at a height? Everything is simple here. It is from a height that radio waves will evenly spread throughout the apartment. It is worth saying that it is rather difficult to correctly position the router, because walls affect the quality of the network - conductivity depends on what material they are made of.

Interference in the path of the radio signal

Houseplants, and even an aquarium, can also serve as an obstacle. Another mistake many people make is installing a router on system unit or a table. Of course, this is not a ban, but the quality of the network may noticeably deteriorate.

Operating frequencies

The frequency of the router also affects the quality of the network. As you know, there are now operating frequencies - 2.4 and 5 GHz. There is a huge difference between them. Most data transmission standards operate at a frequency of 2.4 GHz. General application this standard makes the channel busy, so that all kinds of interference can appear. Given frequency It is also characterized by the fact that its range is significantly lower than that of routers that operate at a frequency of 5 GHz.

The presence of radiotelephones and microwave equipment in a house or apartment can also affect a lower frequency. From this we can draw a certain conclusion. If you need to cover a large area with a radio signal, then it is better to choose a router that operates at a frequency of 5 GHz. Thanks to the fact that this moment there is not much equipment that operates on this frequency, the air becomes less crowded, so that interference is practically eliminated.

Same for quality wireless network given frequency range telephones and other equipment cannot affect. A significant disadvantage of this technology is the high cost of equipment, so many people use WiFi routers operating at a frequency of 2.4 GHz.

Signal amplification and serious installation errors

What to do if you need to cover a large area with a wireless network, but you do not intend to pay big money for equipment? There is an exit. In the shops computer technology there are special devices called repeaters.

Their peculiarity lies in the fact that there is no need to connect any wires to it. All you need to do is turn it on electrical outlet where a wireless network is still available.

The principle of the repeater

The repeater will receive this signal and amplify it. Thanks to this device, you can provide wireless internet the back room of your house, or the local area.

Pets and heating appliances

If you have pets, then in this case you should be just as careful. It is better to install the router in a place where a cat, dog or parrot cannot reach. Here's the thing. As we all know, almost all animals love to play, and at the same time, they bite everything that gets in their teeth. Such games may end up with your pet may:

  • gnaw through the power cord;
  • Damage the incoming Internet cable;
  • Damage the router itself.

There is nothing wrong with this, but this trouble can bring you certain problems in the event that you urgently need access to the Internet. parrots are also common cause lack of Internet, tk. they can also gnaw through one or another wire.

Another big mistake when installing a router is their location near heating appliances. It uses various parts that are soldered to printed circuit board. If overheated, these parts may fail. Another cause of breakdown from overheating can be soldering of the radio component. If your device is under warranty, then if the workers service center determine that it broke for your reason, you will repair at your own expense.

Another nuance of choosing a router for the home. You need to know what receiving frequency your laptop, smartphone or tablet is working on. If they receiving frequency is 2.4 GHz, then buying a router operating at a frequency of 5 GHz is a waste of money. In another case, it may be that receiving equipment can operate at a frequency of 5 GHz, and transmitting - 2.4 GHz. AT this case, they are compatible, so you will have no trouble creating your home wireless network.

Attention! Do not install the router near a cordless telephone or microwave oven, because the signal quality will be unstable and “dead zones” may appear in your apartment or house.

An easy-to-make homemade wall-mounted modem holder that allows you to improve the operation of the modem and make it more convenient.

Recently, I decided to hang my modem on the wall, which before that was on my computer desk.

Due to the peculiarity of the modem's shape (narrow and elongated in height), it stood rather unstable on the table and could easily topple over from accidental grazing. At the same time, on the back of this modem, there are eyelets made specifically for hanging on the wall.

So I decided to hang it on the wall higher, because it will be more convenient and safer, and it will be better for the reliable operation of the Wi-Fi wireless network.

However, it turned out that when the modem is hanging on the wall, it is very inconvenient to turn it on and off, since the corresponding button is located at the bottom of the rear panel, and the gap between the wall and the rear panel is not very large. In addition, it turned out that in this position, the modem also heats up much more (apparently due to the proximity of the wall).

As a result, I decided to make a special canopy or holder that could be mounted on the wall, and already hang the modem on it.

For this I needed the following supplies:

Materials and fasteners:
A piece of board 2 cm thick, 12 cm wide, and about 20 cm long.
Two screws 3x15 mm.

Instruments:
Drawing and measuring tools (pencil, tape measure and square).
Electric jigsaw with a file for a figured cut.
Electric drill-driver.
Drill for metal with a diameter of 2.5 mm.
Drill for metal with a diameter of 4 mm.
Spade drill for wood with a diameter of 16 mm.
Spherical cutter for wood.
Semicircular chisel.
Screwdriver with PZ2 bit.
Sandpaper.

Manufacturing process

First, I marked out the plank and especially the future cutout under back panel modem, which contains ports for connecting cables, as well as a power button.

In general, it should be noted that such a holder is best made from thick plywood, it will be much stronger and more reliable. But at that moment I did not find a piece of thick plywood and decided to make a holder from a piece of board.
After marking, I sawed the workpiece with a jigsaw and carefully processed it with sandpaper.

Then I drilled two through holes with a diameter of 4 mm in the workpiece, for screws, for attaching the holder to the wall.

These holes were countersunk with a spherical wood cutter to countersink the screw heads.

After that, I drilled two more blind holes with a diameter of 2.5 mm, for the subsequent screwing of small screws into them, on which the modem will actually be hung.

Then, I drilled three more holes with a diameter of 16 mm, for better ventilation and heat dissipation.

And between these holes and the end sides of the holder, I cut channels for air circulation with a chisel.

For this, I also used a wide chisel with a straight blade.

After that, I screwed in the screws for hanging the modem with a screwdriver.

And lightly processed the holder protective coating, although this was not particularly necessary.

And this is how I got a ready-made holder for the modem!

And here is his back view.

And this is how the modem is hung on it.

Well, after that, I just had to screw the holder to the wall with two screws.

And put a modem on it.

As a result, using a modem on such a holder has become much more convenient. Now you can easily reach the power button with your finger.

In addition, in this position, you can even connect and disconnect cables to the ports located on the back of the modem without even removing the modem from the wall.
Naturally, the ventilation of the modem has also improved, so it does not get so hot anymore.

Well, that's all for me! For now, everyone has more necessary and useful homemade products!
