Why is the wifi icon on android lit gray and not blue. Gray Wi-Fi icon, Google Play Market does not work on Android

After buying their first Android device, a new user will immediately try to access the Internet using their device. But - it wasn’t there - many people have problems with the correct choice of Wi-Fi settings, and this cannot be done right away. In this article, I will explain the whole process of setting up Wi-Fi on Android in as much detail as possible.

Suppose you already have an active Wi-Fi network that you have organized at home (you will need a special device for this - a router) and you plan to connect a device running Android 4.0 and higher to this wireless network. The whole process is described as detailed as possible, every step, even the smallest one, will be explained to the smallest detail.

  • So, first you need to turn on the Wi-Fi signal receiver on your device. This is done in the regular system menu: "Menu" -> "Settings" -> "Wireless networks" -> "Wi-Fi". You can also turn on Wi-Fi using the standard widget, if you placed it on your desktop earlier.

  • Immediately after turning on Wi-Fi in the system settings, you will see a list of networks available for connection on your screen. Choose any. If you created a secure network during the router settings, then after selecting it, the Android system will prompt you to enter the password in a special window. I must say that most often, with standard Wi-Fi network parameters, further steps are simply not required! But if you have any problems, move on.
  • Then you need to carry out the most interesting and, perhaps, the most difficult thing - setting up a Wi-Fi connection. To access the network settings, you need to hold its name for a few seconds, and then select "Change settings"

  • After that, Android will show you the Wi-Fi settings panel itself. To manually set parameters such as IP address, gateway and DNS server addresses, you need to check the box "Advanced"

  • Enter in the fields indicated above exactly the data that your Internet connection provider provided to you. If the network administrator is not you, then it is advisable to contact an experienced specialist who will help you properly configure the router so that it "distributes" the Internet to all connected devices. I also note that Android has a function to automatically detect all network parameters - DHCP. It is better for an inexperienced user to use it, and in case of any problems, already look for a solution in the advanced settings

  • After all the manipulations, you can make a short press on the line with the name of the network to view the settings that you have set. Also in the window that appears, other network parameters are available - bandwidth and signal strength indicator.
  • By the way, be sure to pay attention to the Wi-Fi connection icon in the system status bar. If everything is configured correctly, then it will light up not in gray, but in blue. This is very important, otherwise you will not be able to access the Internet from the device.

That's all. In fact, the process of setting up Wi-Fi on Android is very simple and requires only a little concentration and perseverance. Setting Wi-Fi settings on an Android phone is no different than the process described above for tablets. Good luck to you!

Question from user

Good afternoon.

Tell me what can be done - I often have a yellow exclamation mark on my laptop that Wi-Fi without access to the Internet.

After a while, it disappears, but constantly waiting for the network is already annoying. I'm thinking of buying a cable to connect the laptop to the router directly (but then there will be no mobility) ...

Alexandra.

Good day everyone.

The described problem with accessing the Internet via Wi-Fi is not so uncommon (I think that most Wi-Fi users have encountered it more than once, and will still encounter it ...). It occurs for many reasons, and I will analyze the most basic of them in this article (so to speak, I will give recommendations for restoring the network). So...

How to restore Internet access via Wi-Fi

The appearance of the error is shown in the screenshot below - in the tray on the Wi-Fi icon, a yellow exclamation mark lights up, if you move the mouse pointer to it, you will see a characteristic message. Also, often users find out that something is wrong with the network when they try to open some web page - and instead they see a message in the browser that the resource is not available (and so with all sites).

Error example: when you hover over the Wi-Fi icon, Windows reports that the connection without access to the Internet...

Now for the decision...

Try restarting your router and laptop

Oh ... For many problems with the computer, it is recommended to restart it. And this time is no exception. (this error often occurs after the computer wakes up from sleep mode (hibernation). The fact is that after waking up from hibernation, Windows "thinks" that it is working with the old IP address, but the router has already given it a new one - and in as a result of such a reticence, there are connection problems) ...

To reboot the router, you can use the special button on the device case, or simply disconnect its power supply from the network for a while.

I note that with many connection problems, such a forced reboot helps to quickly restore the network to working capacity...

Important!

By the way, I highly recommend checking whether there is Internet on other devices using this Wi-Fi network - on a tablet, phone, etc. This will help to understand whether the problem is in a laptop (with Windows), or a problem with a router or provider.

Run troubleshooting

In Windows (at least in 10) there is a very sensible network diagnostic, which many underestimate. Meanwhile, by running it, you can correct the lion's share of errors, and, at least approximately, find out "where to dig" ...

And so, right-click on the Wi-Fi connection icon and select (see screenshot below).

Next, the wizard will start: it will automatically check all the parameters, correct errors, restart the adapter (if necessary), and at the end of its work it will give you a message: that everything is in order and I have repaired the network, or indicate some problem.

For example, in my case, the diagnostic result is "DNS server is not responding". A similar error occurs, most often, when there are problems with your Internet provider, or there is a break in the communication channel. For example, if you cut the network cable in the entrance (or just remove the Internet cable from your router) - you will see the same error ...

Remarque!

The article will tell you what to do if the DNS servers do not respond (Internet failure and sites do not open) -

Check that your network cable is OK

This advice follows from the previous point. First, take a look at the router itself: if everything is in order with it, one way or another, the LEDs should light up and blink on it (try disconnecting the internet cable from the router and then reconnecting it - the number of LEDs on / blinking should change, provided that everything is in order with the network cable) .

In addition, look at the Internet cable from your PC to the entrance area. It is not uncommon for pets to gnaw through the cable or local "ghouls" to cut the cable at the entrance.

Is there a problem with the ISP?

Many users are in no hurry to call the provider, meanwhile, at the other end they can very quickly tell you if everything is in order (which means you can quickly figure out whether it is worth continuing to look for problems at home).

By the way, problems on the side of the provider are not so rare. You can find out about large cliffs on the provider's forums (or official websites. By the way, in these cases it is difficult to get through to him - they usually hang up there).

Also, the provider can change the settings, forgetting to notify you (or you ignored the notification).

Try to register DNS Google or Yandex. Check your network connection settings.

Often, when the Internet is not available due to a failure of DNS servers (in this case, most often, applications such as Skype, torrents, etc. work, but pages do not open in the browser).

In this case, try to register a DNS server from Google or Yandex. Their stability will be higher than the DNS of many providers in our country, which means that access to the Internet will be more stable...

To register DNS, you need to open the properties of the wireless connection. I'll take it in order...

First you need to open the list of all network connections on the PC. For this you need:

  • press Win + R;
  • enter ncpa.cpl ;
  • press Enter.

How to view network connections in Windows 7/8/10

By the way, you may have more than one connection (as in my case), but several (need to select the wireless option if the English name is "Wireless...") .

Then open properties "IP version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" . See screenshot below.

Next, you need to move one slider to the "Obtain an IP address automatically" mode (check this network connection setting!); set the other, related to DNS, to the "Use the following "DNS server" addresses" mode - and register DNS from Google 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (or from Yandex 77.88.8.8). See the screenshot below.

Save your settings and check if the network is working.

Check your router settings

Wi-Fi without an Internet connection is often due to a failure of the router settings. Or, alternatively, your ISP may have changed the settings required to access the network. For example, not so long ago I myself encountered the fact that my provider changed the login for accessing the Internet via the PPPoE protocol (The sad thing is that no one notified about this... Therefore, in the previous steps, I recommended asking the provider if everything is in order...) .

In general, setting up a router is a separate and large topic. Therefore, in this step I will provide a couple of links to my articles on this topic. I recommend to take a look.

How to connect and configure a new Wi-Fi router yourself - instructions with pictures -

How to enter the router settings, and what to do if the settings do not open -

Check your network without antivirus and firewall

Well, the last thing I recommend is to disable the antivirus and firewall for a while. This, of course, happens infrequently, but still - it happens that for security purposes and concern for the user, they block the network (especially, Norton IS antivirus used to do this when setting the maximum protection level. Apparently, they limited the user from everything where it was hypothetically possible to pick up an infected file).

Most modern antiviruses can be disabled through their tray icon. For example, with Avast antivirus - this is done simply: just select the item "Managing Avast Screens" - and then specify the time for which the antivirus will be disabled. Everything is simple and fast...

To disable the built-in firewall in Windows, first go to control Panel . Next, you need to open the section " System and safety" , then "Windows Defender Firewall" (see screenshot below).

Then click on the menu on the left "Turn firewall on or off ...".

Set all sliders to mode and save the settings.

After checking and configuring the Wi-Fi connection, it is recommended to enable both the antivirus and the firewall (and adjust them accordingly if they were the cause of unstable Wi-Fi. For example, you can reduce the security level from the maximum to the average that they provide) .

Additions on the topic are welcome (constructive criticism too).

Hello! We have already sorted out all the possible problems (and their solution) associated with connecting an iPhone or iPad to Wi-Fi -. But the fact is that in that article general problems were considered, and today I want to talk about one specific case. And this case, it should be noted, is very interesting.

So, recently I received a letter with a question of approximately the following content: “Good day! This morning, my iPhone was unable to connect to Wi-Fi. The thing is that when I went into the settings, I tried to turn on Wi-Fi, but nothing worked out for me - the slider did not move. For some reason, it is shown in gray and cannot be activated. Please tell me what to do?"

But really, some strange “glitch” of iOS - there is a Wi-Fi button, but it is not pressed. Or not "glitch"? Let's figure it out, let's go!

In fact, the problem can be both software and hardware. And of course, first you need to rule out crashes in the iOS system. To do this, perform the following steps:

  1. Hard reboot - for different models it is done differently ().
  2. Reset network settings. To do this, open "Settings - General - Reset - Reset network settings".
  3. If there is a jailbreak, then . Since some of its tweaks can affect the performance of the Wi-Fi connection.
  4. Are you using beta firmware? Remember that with her - do it.
  5. Back up and restore iPhone or iPad firmware via iTunes (to be sure,). See if the Wi-Fi icon activates on a completely "clean" (without your data) device.

Did all these manipulations, but the problem did not disappear? Unfortunately, in this case, the gray color of the button most likely indicates a malfunction of the Wi-Fi module.

By the way, indirectly this fact can confirm the impossibility of turning on Bluetooth - its icon will also be inactive.

How to find out more precisely? Open "Settings - General - About this device" and look at the line Wi-Fi address.

And now what to do - how to do the right thing?

  • . If yes, then feel free to take it to warranty repair - let them sort it out themselves.
  • Service expired? Unfortunately, replacing and soldering a module is not the easiest operation - it cannot be done at home, without special skills and equipment. Therefore, you need to visit the service center. But there is good news - the cost of such a procedure is not very high. Although everything is known in comparison ....

And finally, I would like to note one point.

On the Internet, as a way to deal with idle Wi-Fi, you can find such advice - put it in the freezer or heat the device. Say, then the soldering will fall into place and everything will work.

I don’t know if you want to check this method or not, but you need to remember the disadvantages of such a solution:

  1. It rarely helps.
  2. The effect lasts, as a rule, not for long - after a while the Wi-Fi connection icon will again become gray and inactive.
  3. You can easily overheat (overcool) the device and break something else - the motherboard, display, all kinds of controllers, modules, etc.

Therefore, in my opinion, this manipulation is an extremely dubious decision.

Although, if you are going to throw the device away anyway (since you simply don’t need it with a disabled Wi-Fi button), then you can try. But only at your own peril and risk, because the consequences can be unpredictable. I repeat, visiting the service center will be a much more correct action.

P.S. After reading the article, did it become at least a little clearer? Like, hit social media buttons, get +50% Wi-Fi signal strength!

P.S.S. Still have questions, want to share a problem or some alternative solution? Welcome to the comments!

In rare cases, the Wi-Fi network setting on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch may be greyed out or greyed out. If you go to the Settings –> Wi-Fi menu, the toggle switch will be turned off without the possibility of activating a wireless connection.

If this happens, the iOS device does not allow you to use the Wi-Fi interface. In iOS 7.1, the message "Wi-Fi is not available" may appear in Control Center. How to solve an annoying problem? First of all, check that the Airplane Mode toggle switch is in the “Off” position by going to the main section of the iPhone and iPad. Thereafter:

1. Install the latest version of iOS

The first thing to do in such a situation is to check that the current version of the operating system is installed on the device. With each update, Apple eliminates system errors, makes the OS more stable. After upgrading to the latest OS, the problem may resolve itself. Go to Settings –> General –> Update. Here you should see the message "Latest software installed". If your device does not have Internet access, connect your gadget to your computer and check for updates in iTunes.

2. Do a hard reset

To solve the problem with an inactive Wi-Fi indicator, a hard reset of the device will help, as a result of which temporary data is reset. To make a Hard Reset, you need to simultaneously press and hold the top "Power" button and the "Home" button. You need to hold them together until the Apple logo appears on the display.

3. Reset network settings

In a situation where the Wi-Fi setting is displayed in gray, resetting the network settings may result. The operation is quite simple and it can be done on the gadget itself. Follow the procedure in the Reset section in the iOS main menu. To do this, go to Settings –> General –> Reset –> Reset network settings. This will reset all network settings, including information about connected Bluetooth devices, Wi-Fi passwords, as well as VPN and APN settings.

4. iOS Full Recovery

If resetting network settings did not help, you need to perform an operation to return the iPhone and iPad to its original state - reset the operating system. You can clean up your mobile device through iTunes or using the OS itself. In the latter case, you need to go to the menu Settings -\u003e General -\u003e Reset. Various options are available here for "zeroing" the system. You can find out more about this.

5. Repair

If none of the above methods helped, it is probably a hardware failure. Most likely, the problem is with the Wi-Fi module itself. To determine the specific problem, you should contact Apple representatives for support and service or the nearest service center, where specialists will diagnose and repair the device.

Often there is such a problem when, after successfully connecting to a Wi-Fi network, the connection icon on an Android smartphone or tablet is gray. And it should be blue.

Everything seems to be in order, but the gray icon means that you need to sign in to your Google Play account. After entering personal data (login and password) in your Google account, an error appears about the inability to connect to the server. And on a phone or tablet, Google Play is needed to download a program or game.

Users note that when they try to connect the tablet to a Wi-Fi network, a gray icon appears. Then the user tries to log in to Google Play, enters the username and password in the previously created Google account, but the system displays a message about the impossibility of logging in. Some click next. This opens the Wi-Fi connection settings page. There you can see that the Wi-Fi signal strength icon is gray instead of blue. At the same time, all sites open normally in the browser, but Google Play does not work.

I read somewhere that this kind of problem sometimes occurs due to incorrect time and date settings. It seems to be such a trifle. Decided to clarify for myself. I go into the settings and see that the time is shown correctly, but the date is not. The year is set correctly, but the date and month are incorrect. After I changed this data to the current date, the Wi-Fi icon turned blue and Google Play worked. For some android users, problems with logging into the Google Play Store occur after installing the Freedom application. Therefore, delete it if you haven't already done so.

What should I do if the Wi-Fi icon is gray on my phone or tablet and I can't access Google Play?

The time and date settings may vary depending on the Android OS version and the manufacturer of your device. However, in any case, the date and time is set in the settings. Enter the panel where the clock, battery charge, and other information are located. Choose "Settings". Then go to the "Date and time" tab and check the settings. Be sure to set the correct date and time, including the time zone. After setting the correct settings, the icon turns blue. I immediately opened Google Play and downloaded a few games.

This is a simple solution to an unusual problem.
