Microsoft security essentials antivirus Russian version. Free programs for Windows download for free

Microsoft SecurityEssentials- free antivirus from Microsoft. Anyone with Windows can download and use it.

In this article, we will review the free antivirus program Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE). Microsoft claims that this is an innovative antivirus with maximum protection. Now we will try to find out what MSE is and what it is eaten with.
Minimum system requirements:

  • Processor 500 MHz.
  • RAM - 256 MB.
  • Hard disk space - 200 MB.
  • Operating system (OS): Windows XP (SP2-SP3); VISTA (SP1-SP2); 7; 8.

Each OS version and each bit size (32 and 64 bit) has its own download link. It weighs a little. Installation will take you literally 3 minutes. You just need to follow the installer's instructions.
The main thing is that you have a licensed operating system. Because MSE itself has a built-in OS check for license availability (it doesn’t check anymore).
As of today, we will be reviewing Microsoft Security Essentials version 4.6.305.0. (the last one at the moment).
The program interface is very concise, simple and convenient.
All the necessary buttons are immediately visible.

Microsoft Security Essentials Update
Since the program is free, you will not have any problems with updating. The antivirus is updated automatically.
Antivirus functionality
In the description of the antivirus, Microsoft offers us the following functions:

  • The latest threat scanning system
  • Connecting with Explorer and Firewall
  • Innovative network analysis system.

Many have probably asked the question: why only Explorer? This is truly a very thoughtless decision on Microsoft's part. Integration only with Exporer calls into question the security of users of other browsers, which, in fact, no longer guarantees complete protection for you. Integration with a firewall does not give anything, as experienced users have already noticed more than once.
Further in my review, I wanted to conduct several tests in order to show the main characteristics of MSE using an example.
First, let's check out the vaunted threat and virus analysis system.
To do this, download the virus assembly 17_Viruses_for_Ant. This is an archive with 17999 viruses. This is a fairly new build and all the viruses in it are combat-ready and ready to harm your computer.
In theory, the antivirus should stop us at the loading stage, but this does not happen!
We successfully download an archive with viruses without disabling the antivirus.
There are no reports of viruses. MSE doesn't respond at all.
Now let's check our archive for viruses.

Check result

As we can see, Microsoft Security Essentials found only 15,819 viruses out of 17,999. The quality of the scan is 87% - this is a very bad indicator.
The antivirus turned out to be completely unprepared for such a check.
Now you need to check the speed of MSE scanning and how much this scan loads the system.

We carried out the test on a 4-core Intel I5 HP pavilion G6 with 6 GB of RAM. We carried out a “full” scan of drive C, which is most susceptible to virus attacks. Disk C has a capacity of 100 GB. The check took us about an hour. During this time, more than 1 million files were checked.
Therefore, we can say that MSE has a very good scanning speed of 29 MB/sec. Peak maximum resource utilization:
CPU - 28%
Memory - 1.5 GB.
After the tests, we can say that Microsoft Security Essentials is a free antivirus for ordinary users with a simple and user-friendly design, self-updating and quick scanning.
But this antivirus cannot guarantee us reliable operation. The quality of its quick check leaves much to be desired. Considering that the antivirus is free, then you cannot demand good protection from it, since there are many paid and serious products for these purposes.
MSE also most recently failed an audit by the independent research institute Av-Test. This is a test of anti-virus programs, after successful completion of which a certificate of quality is issued.
Almost all known paid and free antiviruses were able to pass this test, except MSE.
When evaluating this antivirus, you can give it a solid 5 out of 10 points.
For a good interface and fast, convenient operation.

Download antivirus Microsoft Security Essentials 32-bit

Free download of the Microsoft Security Essentials x32 and x64 antivirus package is recommended for advanced protection against all known viruses, Internet worms, Trojans, keyloggers, various spyware, adware and malware, as well as unauthorized access without exception. The latest version of the antivirus program from Microsoft is a modern, up-to-date and high-quality software product, consisting of a set of utilities that provides comprehensive protection of the computer system and supports updating virus databases.

Each user of the site https://site has the opportunity to download a free antivirus for Microsoft Windows Security Essentials for free without registration and SMS to his home personal computer from this page of the site. On a PC at home you can make a maximum of MSE installations, in a small enterprise - up to ten, in the state. organizations, enterprises and educational institutions - cannot be used.

Microsoft has once again updated the latest version of the free MSE antivirus for modern versions of the Windows operating system. In cases where a well-known brand is preferred and free software is also needed, you can download the latest version of Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows Vista, 7, 8, 10 for free to your computer without registration and SMS. Since April 2014, when support for Win XP was discontinued, the latest versions of MSE on the expash do not work; this antivirus tool is not available on the outdated system. Over the many years of its existence, the antivirus program from Microsoft has earned positive reviews and comments from tens of millions of users after many years of use in various available modes for scanning, protecting and saving information.

Technologies, engine, capabilities

Microsoft's free antivirus is based on the same technologies as the commercial antivirus for large companies - Forefront Client Security. There are much more similarities than differences: the interface, principles of operation, anti-virus databases and, most importantly, the Malware Protection Engine. MSE lacks only convenient system management. The advantages of a free antivirus product include the following:

  • Highly protects your PC
  • works quickly without burdening the system,
  • distributed freely
  • has no restrictions on the period of use,
  • easy to install and use,
  • has a multilingual interface,
  • is updated automatically,
  • runs as a background process,
  • protects online,
  • it searches for infected files itself,
  • remembers scanning exceptions,
  • checks archived files,
  • creates a system restore point,
  • allows you to schedule an inspection,
  • has high performance,
  • not demanding on resources,
  • integrated with Windows firewall,
  • protects against net exploits,
  • detects web threats,
  • recovers files from the cloud.

Three types of PC scans are available to the user: express, selective and full. A quick scan takes from 10 to 30 minutes, and a full scan will last about an hour, depending on the speed of your computer. It scans both internal and external computer drives, USB, Flash and other drives connected to the computer. Continuous protection in the background is reliable and up-to-date thanks to regular updates of anti-virus databases against new infections and threats, published three times a day on MicrosoftUpdate and Security Portal. All downloaded files and emails with attachments must be scanned. If desired, the user can schedule checks for the future. The anti-virus log stores events that occur while the anti-virus is running.

MSE: fast performance and effective protection

The operation of the MSE utility package has a minimal impact on computer performance. Scanning uses only a few megabytes of RAM. In the settings you can set the desired value for the degree of CPU load. The improved interface makes protecting your computer easy and simple. In most situations, Microsoft Antivirus automatically neutralizes malicious attacks without human intervention. In all cases where enhanced basic security, high speed, integration with the Windows firewall and browser are needed, it makes sense to download free Security Essentials antivirus for Microsoft Windows 32-bit and 64-bit from this page of the site https://site without registration.

Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Defender

The history of antiviruses produced by Microsoft began at the beginning of the 21st century. AntiSpyware software was developed by specialists from GIANT Comp. Soft. Inc., which Microsoft acquired in late 2004. The first antivirus program, Microsoft Anti Spyware, appeared on January 6, 2005. AntiSpyware was designed to remove, quarantine, and prevent malware and spyware from running. On October 24, 2006, the final release was released with the new name Win Defender, which was supplied in the Windows XP, Server 2003, Vista, 7 and 8 operating systems.

Windows Defender served faithfully for about three years and was further developed. On September 29, 2009, Microsoft introduced a package of free MSE antivirus programs. Starting with Windows 8, the functionality of Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Defender is de-unique. MSE also replaced the commercial Windows Live OneCare product. Today, many users, not knowing how to enable Windows Defender, prefer to download Microsoft Security Essentials for free with Win 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista 32 or 64-bit. Both of these software products, MSE and WD, run in parallel and do not conflict and will not conflict in the future.

You can successfully install MSE only on a system that has successfully passed the Windows OS authentication, the so-called validation. During installation, the Microsoft package checks Windows for validity. In case of illegal or incorrect use, the license of the antivirus product assumes that the operating system will be blocked.

Not long ago, a false antivirus package called Security Essentials 2010 was distributed on the Internet, and then Microsoft Security Essentials 2011 and several programs that looked similar to MSE. This fake malware prevented popular programs from launching and functioning normally, effectively locking up the infected computer. Microsoft's Legal Department has been successful in combating counterfeiters, but caution should still be exercised when downloading MSE. Taking the utmost precaution, we recommend that you safely download Microsoft Security Essentials to your computer using the link from the office. Microsoft website, making sure that the domain Microsoft dot com is present in the address bar of your browser. The size of the installation file, depending on the version of Windows, ranges from 11 to 14 MB; about 150 MB of free disk space is required.

Despite the fairly solid system requirements, Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) does not abuse memory resources, and also does not heavily load the processor and does not make you wait long when loading the operating system.

Updating anti-virus databases is available only to owners of licensed operating systems. After its installation, MSE immediately checks to see if automatic system updates are disabled. If so, it will turn it on itself and begin updating the signatures. After this, you can select the scan type or set the frequency of scans. Also, according to the state of the computer, one of 3 colors will be assigned: red means high danger, yellow – there are threats, green – everything is clean.

As for the quality of heuristic analysis and detection of current viruses, everything is very subjective. Compared to other well-known antiviruses, MSE was released relatively recently, so you shouldn’t expect developers to respond super quickly to the appearance of a new network worm or hard-to-detect malware. This can only be done by large antivirus companies with a powerful laboratory that have been working in the computer security market for a long time.

It's not often that Microsoft pleases users with free products. Anyone can try the new antivirus. However, not everyone will be satisfied with the level of protection that the creators of Windows offer us. This is especially true for system administrators. But overall, MSE's performance is at an acceptable level, considering the fact that it is a completely free security tool. Remember that no modern antivirus can provide 100% protection.

Description
Microsoft Security Essentials is a free antivirus for basic protection of your computer against viruses, Internet worms, Trojans, and spyware. Enhanced security, maximum performance, integration with Windows firewall. There is no registration required to use the MSE package, there is no trial period, there are no restrictions on the period of use - just download and install.

Works on most modern computers. Microsoft Security Essentials runs on Windows Vista (Gold, Service Pack 1, or Service Pack 2) and Windows 7. It uses any of the two most popular browsers: Windows Internet Explorer (from version 6.0) or Mozilla Firefox (from version 2.0 ). Supports XP mode, integrated into top versions of Windows 7. It is also compatible with UAC - a trigger for changes in the system.

Does not require high performance. MSE works smoothly on most computers. Windows Vista or Windows 7 requires a CPU with a clock speed of 1 gigahertz or higher, as well as RAM of 1 gigabyte. You also need 140 megabytes of free space (partly for the kernel, the rest for anti-virus databases). As well as a monitor with a resolution of 800x600 or more.

Protects against most viruses. According to tests by a leading expert group (av-test.org), Microsoft Security Essentials protects against 98.4% of all viruses. This level is comparable to paid competitors. Moreover, MSE is absolutely free for all owners of licensed copies of Windows. In addition, in terms of scanning speed, Security Essentials showed results comparable to other paid antiviruses.

Does not stop when infected with rootkits. According to most independent tests, Microsoft Security Essentials reliably protects against rootkits, programs that modify the system kernel. So, in test conditions that were as close as possible to real ones, Microsoft Security Essentials removed 25 rootkits out of 25. That is, the level of protection is 100%

To protect the Windows 7 operating system, you can use an antivirus from Microsoft, called Microsoft Security Essentials.

The name of the antivirus “Microsoft Security Essentials Windows 7”, consisting of 4 English words, is not easy to remember, so below we will also call it “Microsoft Antivirus for Windows 7”.

You can install it from the Internet for free from the official Microsoft website if Windows 7 on your computer is licensed. This antivirus is available for both 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7 operating systems.

Information from the official Microsoft website about the antivirus:

Use Microsoft Security Essentials to protect your computer from viruses, spyware, and other malware. This antivirus provides real-time computer protection. It is suitable for use at home and small businesses.

Microsoft Security Essentials comes free*. It's simple to install and easy to use. It works quietly and efficiently in the background without distracting you or forcing you to update.

* Internet access charges may apply during download.

The appearance of the Microsoft Security Essentials program window is almost identical to the appearance of the Windows Defender program window created for the Windows 8 operating system. Windows Defender 8 was described in this article. And these antiviruses work in a similar way.

Unlike Windows 8, where the Windows Defender Service is a full-fledged antivirus, in the Windows 7 operating system the similar Windows 7 Defender is not a full replacement for antivirus software in real time (at the time of access).

For Windows 7, a full-fledged antivirus is the additionally installed Microsoft Security Essentials program, which can be downloaded for free from the official website using the link above. Moreover, after installing Microsoft Anti-Virus for Windows 7, Windows Defender is automatically disabled, transferring its functions to the installed anti-virus program.

If you decide to use Microsoft Antivirus for Windows 7, then other antivirus programs, if they were installed on your PC, should be disabled or completely removed from the computer. Otherwise, antiviruses will conflict with each other, perceiving each other, perhaps even as an infected virus program.

Setting up Microsoft Antivirus for Windows 7

Performed on the “Parameters” tab (number 1 in Fig. 1). On this tab you can configure the following options:

1. Option " Scheduled check"(number 2 in Fig. 1) allows you to configure the settings for automatically scanning your computer using Microsoft Anti-Virus for Windows 7.

  • Automatic scanning of your computer using this anti-virus program can be configured for a given day of the week, for a given time, and for the type of scan (quick, full or special).
  • It also requires that you automatically search for and install updates for virus and spyware definitions.
  • The maximum load on the PC's central processor for the duration of the scan is also set.

Rice. 1. Setting up a scheduled scan for Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows 7

Setting up a scheduled scan (number 3 in Fig. 1) allows you to automatically run a scan of your computer for the presence (absence) of viruses and spyware, regardless of whether the PC user himself remembers this or not. Of course, for the automatic check to work, the computer must be turned on and booted at the specified time. This is the only prerequisite for the program to scan the PC without user intervention.

The checkbox next to the inscription “Check for the latest versions of virus and spyware definitions before the scheduled scan” (number 4 in Fig. 1) allows you to perform automatic updates of the antivirus program in order to obtain the latest versions of virus and spyware definitions from the Windows Update Center. The latest versions of definitions are a guarantee that the antivirus will not miss and neutralize the latest versions of viruses and spyware.

If you have a fast PC, then to speed up the computer scan, you can use up to 80% of the PC processor power while checking the computer for the presence (absence) of viruses and spyware, as shown by number 6 in Fig. 1. For slower (older) computers, it is better to set no more than 30-50% if you intend to work on it when checking the computer.

The option of using 80% of the processor power on weak PCs is suitable if, during a scheduled scan, you refuse to do any other work on the computer until it is completed. Also for this purpose (launching Microsoft Anti-Virus for Windows 7 only on a PC on which no work is being done), you can check the box next to “Run a scheduled scan only when the computer is turned on but not in use” (number 5 in Fig. 1).

2. Option " Default Actions"(yellow number 1 in Fig. 2) allows you to configure Microsoft Antivirus for Windows 7 to take action if threats of various levels are detected.

Rice. 2. Configuring default actions of Microsoft Anti-Virus for Windows 7

For threats of the “Critical” level (that is, very dangerous, number 2 in Fig. 2), options are provided

  • "Recommended Action"
  • "Delete" and
  • "Quarantine".

“Delete” means permanently removing a detected infected file from your computer.

“Quarantine” means automatically placing an identified dangerous (infected) file in a special place on the computer in the so-called “quarantine”, where in the future this file will be available only to the Microsoft Antivirus for Windows 7 program.

For threats of the “High” level (number 3 in Fig. 2), there are also 3 options described above.

And for threats of the “Medium” and “Low” levels (numbers 4 and 5 in Fig. 2), in addition to the 3 options described above, there is also a 4th option “Allow”, which means permission to save the detected presumably infected file unchanged. But it is better not to do this, and, again, for all threat levels it is preferable to set the first default action option: “Recommended action”.

3. Option " Real-time protection"(number 6 in Fig. 2) allows you to turn PC protection on or off in real time, that is, directly during operation. Enabling real-time protection is a mode of constant monitoring of everything that happens on the computer in order to prevent viruses or spyware from entering the computer. It is recommended to set this option to “Enable real-time protection (recommended).” In this mode, if any attempts are made to penetrate a PC by malicious programs, the user will be immediately notified, and the suspicious file will be deleted or isolated.

4. Option " Excluded files or locations"(number 7 in Fig. 2) allows you to set exceptions for certain files or folders that should not be scanned by Microsoft Anti-Virus for Windows 7.

It is recommended not to set any exceptions, otherwise Microsoft Anti-Virus for Windows 7 will not monitor the situation in excluded files or in excluded folders. There is a real danger of “letting” viruses or programs onto your computer.

5. Option " Excluded File Types"(number 8 in Fig. 2) allows you to exclude files with certain predefined ones from being scanned for viruses and spyware, for example.xls, .xlsx, .jpeg, etc. This same Microsoft Anti-Virus for Windows 7 is allowed not to scan files with the extensions listed in the restrictions. It is also not recommended to do these restrictions on your PC, as this can also lead to your computer becoming infected with viruses or spyware.

6. Option " Excluded Processes"(number 9 in Fig. 2) allows you to exclude processes of the Windows 7 operating system so that they are also not subject to control and scanning by Microsoft Anti-Virus for Windows 7. And here it is not recommended to set any exceptions; the exceptions page should be empty so as not to “catch” a virus or spyware.

7. In the option " Details"(number 10 in Fig. 2), it is advisable to check the boxes only next to the inscriptions:

  • “Scan archived files”, which will allow Microsoft Anti-Virus for Windows 7 to unpack archives, select files in them and scan them for possible infection with viruses or spyware.
  • “Scan removable media”, which for Microsoft Anti-Virus for Windows 7 means the need to scan files and folders not only on the built-in internal drives of the PC, but also on external drives, flash drives and other storage media connected to the PC. This improves your computer's protection by preventing viruses and spyware from entering your computer through external hard drives, flash drives, memory cards, etc.
  • “Delete quarantined files after 3 months”, which allows you not to store infected files on your computer for longer than 3 months. If during this time no decisions are made regarding these infected files identified by Microsoft Antivirus for Windows 7, the files will be automatically destroyed without further possibility of their recovery.
  • “Automatically send sample files if further analysis is required” so that the company can take appropriate action to improve the protection of Windows computers.

8, In opia " MAPS"(number 11 in Fig. 2) sets the level of participation of the user's computer in the MAPS service. This service is designed to send information to Microsoft about detected unwanted programs. This allows Microsoft to respond more quickly to possible new viruses and spyware and speeds up the development of anti-virus programs and applications. It is recommended to set a “Basic Participation Level”.
