Engineering menu in Xiaomi phones. Disable background data transfer in applications

Generally speaking, the engineering menu can be called up by simply dialing the “magic number” in the dialer of your smartphone. But on a tablet without a GSM module, this path may be somewhat crooked. It’s much more fun to use a special application to enter the engineering menu - and I have such an application for you:

Using this application, which is only 7.22 KB in size, you can always launch the built-in engineering menu on your smartphone or tablet built on an MTK processor (MT6573, MT6577, MT6589, MTK8127 and others) without entering a special code in the dialer, simply by tapping on icon. Unzip the ZIP file, upload the resulting EnMode.apk to your phone and install. The shortcut (icon) will not be posted on the desktop - it will appear in the list of installed programs.

The engineering menu itself looks like these pages:

Well, now look what benefits we can get from this:

Disable MTKLogger monitoring and increase battery life.

Probably, some have already seen a folder called mtklog in the Android system drive. Many people probably don’t know why it is needed. So, this technical folder is intended for collecting logs (reports) about the operation of applications and recording application errors on devices with an MTK processor. It is of no use to most users, and it (the folder) can be safely deleted, but bad luck - some time passes, and it appears again (and over time it can grow to significant sizes if it is not deleted periodically).

The reason is that the MTKLogger system process is running, which constantly monitors the operation of applications and writes logs. But you won’t be able to remove it through standard process management tools. What should I do?

1. Go to the engineering menu
2. Swipe sideways to the Log and Debugging tab and select MTKLogger there
3. In the window that opens, in the upper right corner (under the clock), click the settings button
4. In the settings window that opens, turn off the switches in the following items: MobileLog, ModemLog, NetworkLog
5. Exit (the settings are saved automatically).

That's it. The mtklog folder can be deleted and it will no longer appear. Reboot the device - and the MTKLogger process will no longer be in the system.

You can return everything back the same way.

Lower the speaker volume to minimum volume.

Quite often on Androids the minimum volume level is set to a very high level. The first division of the regulator - and the device is already making a very noticeable noise. This is especially true in toys - when you don’t want to turn off the sound completely, and the minimum volume is too loud for those around you.

In particular, this is exactly the situation on the Chuwi VX8 tablet. But there is a way out:

1. Go to the engineering menu
2. Swipe sideways to the Hardware Testing tab and select Audio there
3. Next, select LoudSpeaker Mode
4. In the window that opens, select: Type >> Media
5. After this, just below we see a list of 15 Levels and points for manually entering Value and Max Vol levels.

Let me explain: 15 Levels are our 15 volume levels, when we adjust the volume with buttons. And at each of these steps there is its own volume Value, which we will now begin to change at each step (stage) of volume. Paragraph Max Vol. don't touch for we will not need it.

6. First, let's decide what volume do we need maximum. If the current maximum volume suits you quite well (Level 14), then we will not change the value higher (or lower). If this volume does not suit you, increase the level manually, entering a number 10-15 higher (or lower) than the current one and press the Set (save) button. If we feel that the speaker is starting to “strain” and wheeze at maximum, we lower the current level a few points lower. As soon as we have found the ideal option for the maximum volume, we stop at this value and think about how to evenly register other volume levels in a decrease from the maximum.

It’s actually simple: open the calculator, enter the number 14th Level of our maximum volume and divide this number by 15 (15 levels). We get results! For example, in my Chuwi VX8 the maximum volume is 195 at Level 14 (this is the factory value - it is quite enough). Divide this number by 15 and get the result exactly 13.

Level 14 | 195 - 0 = 195 (the value I selected as the maximum volume)
13th level | 195 - 13 = 182 (we enter this resulting value into the 13th level)
12th level | 182 - 13 = 169 (entered into level 12)
11th level | 169 - 13 = 156 (enter in level 11)
10 level | 156 - 13 = 143 (entered into level 10)
09 level | 143 - 13 = 130 (enter in 09 level)
08 level | 130 - 13 = 117 (enter in 08 level)
07 level | 117 - 13 = 104 (enter in 07 level)
06 level | 104 - 13 = 91 (enter in 06 level)
05 level | 91 - 13 = 78 (enter in 05 level)
04 level | 78 - 13 = 65 (enter in 04 level)
03 level | 65 - 13 = 52 (enter in 03 level)
02 level | 52 - 13 = 39 (enter in 02 level)
01 level | 39 - 13 = 26 (enter in 01 level)
00 level | here you can simply put 10 without calculations...

At each level (after changing it), do not forget to click on saving its new volume level value (Set button)

7. After the above manipulations, we obtain a uniform step volume from maximum to minimum.

Try it - if it seems uncomfortable, you can adjust it again. For example, you can try to dance at the minimum comfortable volume for Level 01 - and from there evenly divide the rest of the range to the maximum.

Manufacturers of Android smartphones implement and use the engineering menu to test devices. It contains all kinds of tests and device settings that are not available to ordinary users. However, today, knowing the USSD command or downloading the application from PlayMarket, anyone can go to the engineering menu.

Why do you need a hidden engineering menu in Android?

Engineering Menu (Engineering Mode) is essentially a hidden application that developers use to test and set the optimal parameters of a mobile phone or tablet. Specialists check the operation of the sensors and, if necessary, make adjustments to the functioning of system components.

When working with the Android technical menu, be careful - changing some functions leads to malfunctions of the device.

How to enter the menu

To open the menu installed by the manufacturer, activate the dial pad on your smartphone and enter one of the USSD commands presented in the table. After entering the command, the numbers will disappear from the screen, and a menu will open instead.

In the dial pad, enter a combination of numbers and symbols to enter the menu

Video: how to work in Engineer Mode

If the code does not work and you cannot launch the service menu using the standard method, use third-party applications - you can download them on PlayMarket. Recommended programs - “Launch the MTK engineering menu”, Mobileuncle Tools, Shortcut Master.

The manufacturer menu does not work on some device models with Android 4.2 JellyBean (x.x.1, x.x.2), as well as on Android 5.1 Lollipop. The menu is also invalid when the Cyanogen Mod firmware is installed. In Android 4.4.2, when you reboot, changes made in the application are reset.

“Launch the MTK engineering menu”

The application allows you to open and configure the engineering menu without typing digital commands. Works correctly on MediaTek processors (MT6577, MT6589, etc.) and Android systems 2.x, 3.x, 4.x, 5.x. According to user reviews, the program successfully performs its functions, but after rebooting the smartphone, the settings made using the application are reset.

Mobileuncle Tools program

The functionality of the application is similar to the previous one, but, in addition to accessing the engineering menu, the user has the opportunity to view information about the screen, sensor and device memory, as well as update the firmware, restore the IMEI number and improve GPS. For stable operation, root rights are required.

To enter the engineering menu, select Engineer Mode

Shortcut Master utility

The Shortcut Master program is designed to work with shortcuts and system applications: creating, searching, deleting. It does not have a direct function for entering the engineering menu. But with its help you can view the list of secret commands operating on your device. And by clicking on the name of the command, you will see a drop-down menu in which there will be an item “execute”. Convenient and does not require unnecessary actions.

In the program, call up the additional menu and select Secret code explorer to see a list of codes

Root rights to access the engineering menu

To get to the service menu on some versions of Android, the user must have superuser rights (root). You can obtain rights using specialized applications: Farmaroot, UniversalAndRoot, Romaster SU and others. To get Root access to your device using Farmaroot:

  1. Install and run the program. Link to Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farmaapps.filemanager&hl=ru.
  2. If the application supports installing root rights on your device, then on the screen you will see a list of possible actions, among them - “Get root”. Select this item.
  3. Choose one of the preset root methods.
  4. The program will begin installation.
  5. At the end of the procedure, you will see a message about the successful installation of root access.

Battery: Disable unused frequencies

Smartphones quickly drain battery life running applications, maintaining cellular communications, and network connections. Using the engineering menu you can increase the battery life.

Modern devices scan several GSM frequencies - 900/1800 MHz and 850/1900 MHz. In Russia there is a 900/1800 MHz pair, which means there is no need to scan the network at other frequencies. The radio signal for the second pair can be turned off, which will significantly save the charge level.

In Engineer Mode, open Band Mode. Disable unused frequencies by unchecking the corresponding items - PCS1900 and GSM850. If the device supports two SIM cards, open the SIM1 and SIM2 items one by one and perform the indicated steps in each. Press the SET button to save the settings.

Disabled frequencies save battery power

If your smartphone and SIM card operate in 3G networks, disable the networks that are not used in Russia: WCDMA-PCS 1900, WCDMA-800, WCDMA-CLR-850. Press the SET button again.

You can enable scanning of disabled networks by returning to the same menu and checking the boxes.

Camera: photo and video settings

By default, Android devices save pictures in JPEG format. Meanwhile, photographers prefer to shoot and process material in RAW to gain more editing options. The technical menu allows you to select the desired image format.

Find Camera in the menu and select Capture Type. Set the photo format to RAW and press SET. Also in the Camera menu you can increase the size of pictures, set the ISO value, enable shooting in HDR for higher photo detail, and set the frame rate for videos. After changing each parameter, remember to press SET to save the settings.

Recovery Mode

Recovery Mode is an analogue of Bios on a computer, it allows you to manage the device without logging into the Android system. Recovery mode features:

  • resetting settings to standard;
  • firmware update;
  • access to root rights;
  • creating a backup copy of the OS;
  • removal of personal data from the system.

In Recovery Mode, do not perform an action if you are not sure what it will lead to. Some commands may harm the device and system.

If the settings are not saved

Users who have access to the technical menu complain that the parameters changed in it are not activated or are reset when the device is restarted.

To activate the settings after changing parameters, tap on the SET button at the bottom of the screen. If the parameters are reset after rebooting the device, try accessing the technical menu not through the application, but using a digital command.

After setting the settings, do not forget to press the SET button

Service codes for Android devices

In addition to the technical menu, secret USSD codes - combinations of numbers and symbols, which the user types by typing to perform an action, allow you to control the functionality of Android smartphones. Secret codes for different devices are given in the table.

Many devices running the Android OS are additionally equipped with a special environment - the engineering menu. With its help, the user has the opportunity to test all the sensors and modules of the mobile device, as well as adjust certain parameters of the gadget for more comfortable use. In Samsung phones, Engineering Mode is hidden in the system by default. And in different models, entering it is performed differently. And the functionality of this area may also differ. Let's look at how to enter the engineering menu on the Samsung Galaxy A5, Galaxy S6, J3 and other smartphones from the Galaxy line.

Where to find the engineering menu on Samsung Galaxy

The main purpose of Engineering Mode is to fully test mobile devices at the final stage of their production. This environment was originally developed for debuggers on smartphones and tablets, but today anyone can use it. The main thing is to know how to open technical mode on Galax.

You can enter the engineering menu using a special combination (USSD code), which is written in the dial panel. However, these commands may differ in different phone models:

  • in Samsung J7 and J1 the actual combination is *#*#0011#;
  • for Samsung Galaxy A5, Galaxy S5, Galaxy S6, the dial *#*#8255#*#* or *#*#197328640#*#* is suitable;
  • on Samsung Galaxy A3 the code is *#*#9646633#*#*;
  • for Samsung Galaxy S3 – *#*#0#*#*;
  • in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge – *#*#8255#*#* or *#*#4636#*#*.

On other devices from the Galaxy line, you can use the service combinations *#*#4636#*#*, *#*#8255#*#* or *#*#3646633#*#*.

If you can’t open the engineering menu using the above commands, you can resort to one of the programs developed specifically for this purpose (EngineerMode, Mobileuncle Tools, Shortcut Master, etc.). To start the technical mode, just install and run one of the utilities. After this, you will automatically enter Engineering Mode.

All applications for opening the engineering menu only work with MTK processors (MT6573, MT6577, MT6589, etc.) and some Exyon chips. For phones equipped with a Qualcomm CPU (for example, Samsung Galaxy A5), such software will be useless.

Main features of the engineering menu on Samsung Galaxy

Having figured out how to enter the engineering menu on Samsung, let's look at its main features. A full-fledged Engineering Mode for MTK chips is equipped with a large number of tools with which you can perform a complete diagnosis and fine-tune the Samsung in many parameters.

However, many smartphones have a stripped-down version of the technical mode, which somewhat reduces its functionality. And in mobile devices based on a Qualcomm processor, through the engineering menu you can only view information about some modules and perform small tests of the main elements of the phone (display, modem, SIM cards and battery).

On the Samsung Galaxy A5 and Galaxy S6, the main sections of the engineering menu are:

  1. Telephony;
  2. Wireless interfaces (Connectivity);
  3. Testing mode (Hardware Testing).

In the Telephony tab, the user has the opportunity to:

The Connectivity section is intended for diagnosing and configuring Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and FM wireless modules. It is not recommended to change anything here, as this may lead to failure of the smartphone.

The most popular tab in the engineering menu is Hardware Testing. This is where you can test the performance of the processor, battery, speakers, camera, display and GPS module. This area allows you to perform a complete diagnosis of Samsung during its purchase and identify possible malfunctions of the product.

Almost all phones experience software glitches, the source of which may be in the firmware. To identify them and determine the type of failure, there is a special service menu through which you can test each module in the phone and identify the essence of the problem.

In this article, we will tell you what the xiaomi engineering menu is, login methods, as well as the main functions that may be useful to you.

What is the engineering menu and main functions

These are hidden smartphone settings aimed at testing and correcting errors. These settings are not available in the regular menu, because... inexperienced users can mess up the correctly set parameters, after which the phone may stop ringing, the connection may be lost, etc. Therefore, be very careful not to harm the system.

The engineering menu on the xiaomi redmi 3 phone performs the following functions:

  • Setting the sound in the main speaker;
  • Setting the sound in the conversational speaker;
  • Microphone settings;
  • Setting up networks;
  • Camera setup;
  • Testing GPS operation;
  • IMEI repair;
  • Ability to optimize the system for less battery consumption.

These are not all functions, but rather the main ones that are in greatest demand.

How to enter the engineering menu

Let's look at ways to enter the engineering menu using the example of Xiaomi Redmi note 3 pro. There are only two standard methods. The third option is through applications, which is worth using if standard methods do not work.

Through settings

Note that this method is universal; it is also suitable for Xiaomi redmi 3s. So, let's go to the smartphone settings. Scroll down and tap on “About phone”. We look for the line “Kernel version” and slowly click on it three times. Perhaps the message “You only have to press two more times” will appear at the bottom. In the same way, slowly press two more times.

The “secret settings” look like this (depending on the phone, the view may differ slightly):

Using a special code

Open the dialer and dial the code *#*#6484#*#*. The same thing will appear as above in the screenshot. This code should be suitable for all Xiaomi devices. If nothing happens when you dial this combination, you should try the following codes: *#*#3646633#*#* or *#*#4636#*#*.

On some other models, the engineering menu looks like this:

If you can’t open the engineering menu

If Xiaomi redmi note 3 pro does not enter the engineering menu, then you should use alternative login methods, namely special software. Let's look at two programs that will help you: MTK Engineering and MobileUncle Tools. You can find many more similar applications on your own.

MTK Engineering is a fast and convenient program, it looks like this:

In the Android Testing section there are Android settings, namely:

  • Phone information;
  • Battery information;
  • Usage statistics;
  • Wi-Fi information.

We need the MTK Engineer Mode item - this is the engineering menu itself. The appearance may be slightly different, but the essence will not change.

MobileUncle Tools is a more powerful program than the previous one, in that it additionally allows you to perform many other operations with the system, however, only for devices with MTK processors, which are not found in all Xiaomi devices.

To get started, you need to click “Engineering Mode” and then select “Engineering Menu (MTK)”. It is worth adding that this program requires root rights. Currently, this program has been removed from the Play Market, but it is not difficult to find on the Internet. Since this application is developed by a Chinese author, you may encounter an English or Chinese version.

Conclusion and translation of functions

Finally, we would like to caution you to be careful with your many system settings. If you need to repair or check any module in your phone, you should not immediately change the parameters of the engineering menu yourself; it is better to first look for instructions on our website or on the Internet specifically for your case. For convenience, we have translated all functions (the Xiaomi Redmi Three smartphone was taken as an example).
