iOS 11 beta supported devices. HEIF encoding support

iOS 11 is out – you can update.

iOS 11 is the latest mobile operating system for iPhone and iPad, released on September 19, 2017. The final build of iOS 11 is numbered 15A372, exactly the same as the Golden Master version. The iOS 11 update brings a ton of new features, including a redesigned App Store, a redesigned Control Center, an improved Siri with a more human-like voice, and much more. iOS 11 supports all devices on which iOS 10 could be installed, except iPhone 5/5c and iPad 4. All new features of iOS 11 were discussed in this review article.

Quick jump:

Advice! The most common iOS 11 problems and how to solve them are described in this article.

Design

Before the official announcement of the iOS 11 update, there was a lot of speculation that Apple would seriously update the appearance of its mobile operating system. Unfortunately, a truly large-scale update did not happen. However, some elements of the iOS 11 interface have changed.

In iOS 11, Apple designers have moved to bolder fonts, particularly in headings. In almost all standard apps, the fonts have become darker and bolder, in the style of the iOS 10 version of the Music app.

Some applications, such as Phone and Calculator, have received much more noticeable improvements, which can even be called a full-fledged redesign.

It is noteworthy that many applications, for example, “Calendar” and “Reminders” remained completely unchanged.

Control room

iOS 11 has completely reimagined Control Center. The updated Control Center in iOS 11 is a single screen, instead of three separate ones offered in iOS 10. However, there was no return to the days of iOS 9 - the Control Center received a completely new look with round-shaped icons. The updated default menu includes two sections for adjusting network options, music controls, sliders for changing volume and brightness, as well as several small buttons for locking rotation, controlling Do Not Disturb and other settings.

In iOS 11, Control Center can be customized! Apple finally took pity on users and gave them this opportunity. In Control Center you can now install the necessary functions and applications, which will certainly make using your iPhone and iPad much more convenient.

Previously, the Control Center began to occupy only a small part of the screen when calling, but now it is located over its entire area. Thanks to this, the updated menu provides access to a noticeably wider range of functions, and users have the right to choose which ones.

In the settings of the iOS 11 update, a special section has appeared in which users can add various elements to the Control Center. You can add the following options:

  • Flashlight
  • Timer
  • Calculator
  • Camera
  • Universal Access
  • Alarm
  • Control Apple TV
  • "Do not disturb the driver"
  • Guided access
  • Home app
  • Low Power Mode
  • Notes
  • Screen Recording
  • Stopwatch
  • Text size
  • Voice notes
  • Wallet app

Along with new personalization settings, expanded 3D Touch gestures have appeared in the new Control Center. By pressing harder on most icons in the Control Center, the user will receive additional options. For example, by pressing hard on the Music application icon, not only playback controls will appear on the screen, but also information about the song being played, as well as auxiliary parameters.

When you hold down the flashlight icon, you can increase or decrease the light intensity.

When you hold down the brightness control icon, there is a convenient adjustment scale and a Night Shift button.

When you hold down the Notes application icon, you have the option to create a new note, list, photo, or sketch. And so on.

On iPad, the new Control Center looks different. It appears on the right side of the screen in both landscape and portrait orientation. The left side is occupied by thumbnails of running applications. The Control Center itself on the iPad is exactly the same as on the iPhone. Menu items can be changed to suit your own needs, and if you hold for a long time, additional options appear.

The control center on iPad is located on the same screen with an updated menu for switching between applications. The latter is located to the left of the Control Center in the form of thumbnails of all open applications. The combined menu is called up by swiping from the very bottom of the screen, or by double-clicking the “Home” button.

Note that in the first beta versions of iOS 11, in the updated multitasking menu on the iPad, it was suggested to close applications by clicking on the small cross in the corner of the thumbnail. This was completely inconvenient, which, fortunately, Apple noticed, offering the most pleasant and intuitive way to close applications.

Lock screen

The iOS 11 update actually merged the Lock screen with the Notification Center. In its basic state, the lock screen only shows the time and date, but swiping up opens a list of missed notifications. An identical list is presented in the Notification Center, which, as before, can be opened from anywhere in the operating system by swiping down from the very top of the screen.

In iOS 11, the lock screen has two additional pages. Swiping right on the main screen opens a page with widgets, swiping left opens the camera. In this regard, the iOS 11 lock screen is no different from the version from iOS 10.

iMessage and Apple Pay

In iOS 10, Apple introduced apps for Messages and even a separate App Store for iMessage. With iOS 11, the company decided to give users more convenient access to these features. Messages in iOS 11 introduces quick access to stickers, emoji, apps, and games that can be used by iMessage. All you have to do to access them is slide your fingers across the pop-up app bar and the iMessage add-ons you need will appear in front of you.

And this little strip changes absolutely everything. If previously, to send a banal sticker you had to first go to the App Store menu, now selecting and transferring them takes a split second. You can also transfer more useful content, for example, location from Maps, tracks from Apple Music, etc. Thousands of apps from the App Store support iMessage extensions.

In addition, iMessage in the iOS 11 update introduced the ability to send payments between messenger users. Using the special Apple Pay application, iPhone and iPad owners can transfer money to each other using Apple's proprietary payment system. The money you receive is stored on your new Apple Pay Cash card, which doesn't appear in the Wallet app. However, it is full-fledged - you can use it for purchases through Apple Pay, or transfer money from it to a bank account.

It is important to note that the feature of sending money via iMessage will not be available for use in any country in the world when iOS 11 is released. You can use the new iMessage feature in iOS 11 only after the release of one of the next iOS 11 updates, probably iOS 11.1. Apple itself announced this literally one day before the release of the final version of iOS 11. We also emphasize that the function will initially work only in the USA.

However, support for Apple Pay Cash cards will appear in Russia. This is expected to happen during 2018. Apple Pay Cash will be supported on all Apple Pay-compatible devices: iPhone SE, iPhone 6 or later, all iPad Pros, fifth-generation iPads, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3 or later, and Apple Watch. Transferring money between iMessage users will not be subject to commission, but when withdrawing money, users will have to pay a commission of 3% of the transfer amount.

Important! This feature was presented at WWDC 2017 and appeared in the first beta versions of iOS 11, but was later removed from the system. There will be no iOS 11 in the final version. It is expected that Apple will bring it back in future updates. The next new feature is Messages in iCloud, which stores all your iMessages in iCloud cloud storage. Messages will be synced across all your devices under one iCloud account. An excellent bonus of this storage method will be freeing up space in the memory of the iPhone and iPad, since correspondence and attachments will be stored in the cloud.

The latest addition to iMessage in iOS 11 are two new full-screen effects - Echo and Spotlight.

"Echo"

"Spotlight"

Live Photos

Apple is not losing hope of making Live Photos popular among all its users. iOS 11 introduces three new effects for Live Photos:

  • Looped videos - a “live” photo will turn into a funny looped video.

  • “Pendulum” effect - the photo will be played back and forth.

  • Long exposure - will allow you to achieve the effect of a long shutter speed, like on SLR cameras.

In addition, “live” photos in iOS 11 can be cropped, choose a different key shot for them, or turn off the sound when playing a Live Photo.

Camera

The iPhone Camera app in iOS 11 has new filters that Apple calls "pro-grade." Thanks to them, skin tone in photographs will become more realistic, and portraits will be as expressive as possible. There are nine redesigned filters optimized for natural skin tones.

Portrait mode has been significantly improved in iOS 11. In particular, image quality has been increased, low light output has been improved, and the mode itself has received support for optical image stabilization. In addition, the flash worked in portrait mode and HDR support appeared for even better lighting.

The Camera app also has the ability to scan QR codes. To scan, just point the camera at the QR code and it will be recognized immediately. After successful recognition, iOS will offer a method for further use of the content encrypted in the QR code. For example, if a phone number is found in the code, the system will offer to call it, and if the link is to a website, then open it in Safari.

New HEIF and HEVC formats

With the iOS 11 update, Apple switched to new photo and video formats - HEIF and HEIC, respectively. The main feature of these formats is improved compression. Media files are compressed up to two times without losing quality. This means that photos and videos taken with an iPhone or iPad camera will take up half as much space in memory and iCloud cloud storage.

It is important to note that media files in the new formats are compatible with devices that do not support them. When you send or transfer photos and videos in HEIF and HEIC formats, they are automatically transcoded into readable formats for viewing on any device. Thanks to this, the situation with Live Photos, which cannot be viewed anywhere except the latest iPhone and Mac models, will not happen again.

Photo

Face recognition in photos in iOS 11, like many other data, is now synchronized with other devices. This means you only have to tell Photos once about the person in your photo, and the updated system will then sync that information across all your devices. In addition, the selection of photos for the “People” album has become more accurate.

The Photos app now supports GIF animations. They play when clicked and are automatically collected into a new "Animated" album.

The number of types of “Memories” (automatically created thematic collections of photos and videos) in iOS 11 has been significantly increased. The system creates memories based on weddings, sporting events, pictures of pets, etc.

Technically, Memories has also been improved. In iOS 11 they adapt content for portrait and landscape orientation.

App Store

The App Store has been completely redesigned. So completely that even the app icon has been changed for the first time since the App Store launched nine years ago.

However, the main changes in the App Store in iOS 11 are contained inside. After the update, the App Store greets users with five tabs:

  • Today,
  • Games,
  • Applications,
  • Updates,
  • Search.

The Today tab contains today's most relevant content, as determined by App Store editors. Here, the “Game of the Day” and “App of the Day” sections are updated daily, which, again, are carefully selected by Apple employees.

In addition to these sections, various applications with detailed descriptions, collections and even articles regularly appear on the “Today” tab, in which developers most often describe the process of creating their applications and games.

The “Games” and “Applications” tabs, as the names suggest, are dedicated to games and applications from the App Store. Apple decided to separate games and applications into separate tabs in order to give users the opportunity to find exactly what they are looking for in the most convenient way. So, if you are not at all interested in games in the App Store, in the updated App Store they will flash before your eyes only on the “Today” tab, in very limited quantities.

The new App Store features more video previews, Editors' Choice stickers, and easy access to user ratings and in-app purchases directly on the app and game pages of the new App Store.

The App Store in iOS 11 has improved not only externally. The main technical upgrade to the Apple app store was improved search. Searching in the App Store has become much easier - the “smart” mechanism prompts very accurately, and also provides links to relevant articles, tips and tricks, and selections.

Siri

Siri improves with each new version of iOS, and iOS 11 is no exception in this regard. Apple's proprietary voice assistant has been updated with more realistic female and male voices that are much more similar to human ones. According to Apple executives, the new Siri voices were created using deep learning to achieve better pronunciation and a more expressive voice.

The main innovation of Siri in iOS 11 is invisible. The voice assistant has become self-learning, and it learns directly on the device, without sending user data anywhere. Thanks to machine learning, Siri will be able to learn more about the user's interests, which will enable it to make better recommendations.

Another important improvement to Siri is that the user information stored by the assistant is automatically synchronized with all devices that are authorized under the same Apple ID account. This means Siri will get to know you just fine on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

In iOS 11, users can ask Siri to translate text from English to Chinese, French, German, Italian and Spanish. Support for other languages will be implemented in the coming months. Apple representatives did not specify whether Siri will support translation into or from Russian.

In addition, Siri has learned to form an understanding of users’ musical tastes. Based on this information, the voice assistant can suggest suitable music from Apple Music. When listening to songs from the music service, Siri can also answer various small questions related to the music, such as “Tell me who the drummer of this band is?”

An option has appeared in Siri settings that allows you to contact the voice assistant using text commands. You can enable the option in the “Settings” → “General” → “Accessibility” → Siri → “Text input for Siri” menu.

Siri in iOS 11 gained support for the Notes application (creating notes, task lists and reminders), remote banking applications for bank transfers and accounts, as well as applications that display QR codes.

And finally, Apple has given third-party developers access to the SiriKit API, thanks to which they can fully integrate the voice assistant into their applications.

Files

In iOS 11, the iCloud Drive app has disappeared and is replaced by a completely new Files app, which is similar to the Finder on Mac. Files offers access to all files stored locally on your iPhone or iPad, data from iCloud cloud storage, content from apps, and all files and folders from third-party cloud services such as Dropbox, Box, OneDrive, Google Drive and others .

User data is very well organized in the Files app, providing quick access to all content stored on your iOS device. Like Finder on the Mac, the Files app lets you search through files, has a section to view all your recently retrieved files, subfolders, and the ability to add files to your favorites.

Third-party developers may support Files in their applications. Files-enabled apps appear in the sidebar of the standard file utility, making it much easier to transfer documents, photos, videos, and other content between them.

iPad Features

As Apple itself says, iOS 11 is a “giant leap for iPad.” And you can’t challenge this statement even if you try hard. iOS 11 greatly enhances the functionality of Apple tablets.

iPads running iOS 11 will look even more like Macs. This is largely due to the new Dock panel, which can accommodate significantly more applications (up to 15). The updated Dock panel is available on any screen in iOS 11. The panel is “smart” - as you use it, the most frequently used applications, as well as those that were recently launched on your iPhone or Mac, will appear on its right side.

The Dock panel will help open up multitasking. Any additional application on an iPad running iOS 11 can be opened directly from the Dock in Split View and Slide Over modes. The redesigned menu for switching between applications, again “smart,” will remember your preferences and allow you to quickly return to familiar combinations, for example, a text editor and browser.

The drag and drop function completes the picture. iPad users with iOS 11 installed will be able to transfer text, files and photos from one app to another in the most intuitive gesture.

A striking example of the basic use of the drag-and-drop function is the ability to bring up the Dock panel from an already running application, from which you can drag a new application directly onto the screen. With this simple action, you can open two applications on one screen in Split View mode, or place a new application on the right side of the screen thanks to Slide Over mode. There are many advanced ways to use the drag-and-drop feature. For example, you can drag text, images, links, and other content from a web page in Safari to any other application.

Apple Pencil

Apple decided not to stop at the numerous improvements listed above in iOS 11 for iPad. With the advent of iOS 11, the Apple Pencil stylus has become a more versatile tool. Pencil has learned to make quick marks on PDFs and screenshots, create notes directly on the lock screen, and draw in apps like Notes and Mail.

Notes

The Notes app in iOS 11 now includes a document scanning feature. It automatically detects and scans the document, trims all unnecessary edges, eliminates glare and corrects irregularities.

QuickType keyboard

The standard QuickType keyboard in iOS 11 now supports one-handed mode. To activate the mode, you just need to hold down the globe or emoji button, after which the keys will move slightly to the right, which allows you to conveniently type text with one hand. Note that the mode only works on iPhone models with large displays (from 4.7 inches).

The iPad version of the standard keyboard in iOS 11 has received a small but very nice improvement. Symbols, numbers, letters and punctuation marks are now located on one keyboard. Thanks to this, users will be able to forget about the need to constantly switch between layouts. In iOS 11, to select the desired character, just swipe down on a key.

The latest innovation of the QuickType keyboard will definitely please residents of some CIS countries. iOS 11 adds new layouts for Armenian, Azerbaijani, Belarusian, Georgian, Irish, Kannada, Malayalam, Maori, Oriya, Swahili and Welsh.

"Do not disturb the driver"

iOS 11 introduces a new feature - Do Not Disturb the Driver. It silences all incoming notifications on the iPhone while the user is driving. When in active mode, the iPhone screen always remains dark, eliminating any chance of being distracted by it while driving. To activate a feature, you must first add it to Control Center. Do Not Disturb Driver mode can also be turned on automatically, provided that the iPhone has the ability to connect to the car system via Bluetooth.

The question of what iOS 11 will be like worries many fans of Apple products. The importance of this problem cannot be overestimated. Of course, the current version of this operating system also works as it should, many owners of Apple mobile devices are happy with it. But even such a popular platform as iOS has its drawbacks, which many people dream of eliminating. Moreover, the issue of device support remains extremely painful. Let's try to find out what qualities the developers will give to the latest version of the Apple operating system.

What flaws can be fixed in iOS 11?

Both users and professional analysts strongly hope that the developers will correct a number of shortcomings that previous versions of this OS were endowed with. In particular, regular Apple customers have hopes of fixing the following problems:

  • inability to work with fonts;
  • static icons;
  • lack of a black design for the software interface (and people at least hope for the appearance of a black theme in applications);
  • inability to block some programs;
  • poor placement of the volume indicator (a decent portion of users complain that they don’t like it when this indicator appears right in the center of the display);
  • impossibility of changing the location of icons;
  • lack of multi-screen function;
  • reducing the large number of “Control Center” tabs (many people want the 3 existing tabs to be combined into one).
Eliminating these flaws depends on the direction of the developers and whether they listen to the opinions of their customers.

New features in iOS 11

Information about any innovations still remains only guesswork, due to increased confidentiality. However, many analysts believe that with the release of version 11 of the Apple operating system, users may have the following opportunities:
  • renaming devices on the Bluetooth network;
  • selecting the “Default” device;
  • simplified work in the “Control Center”;
  • clearing the cache at the request of the owner;
  • adding “third-party” wallpaper for decoration;
  • viewing GIF images through the Photos application;
  • changing camera settings through a special application;
  • unblocking with your favorite but already forgotten swipe;
  • using the clipboard;
  • making group calls (for example, for conferences);
  • opening files in RAW format;
  • listening to audio files from the last stop point;
  • screen recording (a desirable but unlikely feature);
  • sorting programs and applications by the amount of traffic used.
In addition, analysts believe that the release of iOS 11 will be a significant event for another reason. There are rumors that with the release of this update, developers will introduce a separate operating system to all supported iPad models.

Possible iOS 11 interface

Apple has always been considered conservative, so there is no need to expect revolutionary changes in the interface. Most likely, the menu design will remain the same “flat” and practical. But there is still hope that cosmetic improvements will take place.

Thus, on version 10 of iOS, the design of notification windows and widgets has completely changed. In addition, the “Control Center” has acquired a new look, as well as the “Notification Center”. Based on these changes, we can assume that Apple will continue to introduce something new into the interface of its operating system in order to “refresh” it at least a little.

iOS 11 performance speed

The only improvement that the 11th version of the platform will receive almost 100% concerns an increase in its performance. It was thanks to perfect optimization that Apple products at one time managed to conquer the world market. We can confidently say that after installing this update, supported devices will start working even faster, while their power consumption will noticeably decrease.

Compatible with iOS 11

Even design and functional improvements fade into the background when users are faced with the question of which devices will support iOS 11. Compatibility with the new operating system shows how much a specific gadget is supported by the manufacturer. Since there are three types of iOS products on the market today, we will separately look at the supported models for each of them.

First, let's look at iPhones, because... This is the most popular type of gadget among buyers. So, owners of the following models should not worry about compatibility with the new OS:

  • iPhone 5S;
  • iPhone 6 and 6 Plus;
  • iPhone 6S and 6S Plus;
  • iPhone SE;
  • iPhone 7 and also 7S.
Owners of iPhone 4S series will have to forget about the arrival of updates. The company will definitely stop supporting such outdated devices. This is not surprising, given that the specified gadget model was no longer supported by the 10th version of iOS. But with the iPhone 5 the situation is ambiguous. On the one hand, the device is also outdated, because it does not have a modern 64-bit processor. But at the same time, the owners of these smartphones still have hope for the support of the manufacturer. The exact answer to this question will be given only after the presentation of the new platform.

Now let's talk about a gadget like the iPad. Here the list of supported iOS 11 devices is as follows:

  • iPad mini 2,3,4;
  • iPad Air, as well as Air 2;
  • iPad Pro 9.7 inches;
  • iPad Pro 12.9 inches.
As for the 1st generation iPad mini model, the latest updates are unlikely to be available to it. The situation here is the same as in the case of the iPhone 4S. The very first mini tablets did not support version 10 of iOS, so a miracle will not happen and Apple will not return support to this device. A similar fate will befall the iPad 4. Most likely, the refusal to support this gadget will be due to its outdated hardware.

Well, Apple's latest popular product is the iPod. One hundred percent compatibility is guaranteed for only one device of this kind: iPod Touch 6 gen. This gadget has modern hardware, so the feasibility of its support by the manufacturer is beyond doubt. But the iPod Touch 5 gen will no longer be compatible with iOS 11. The reason is still the same: outdated technical content.

What will Siri be like on iOS 11?

Speaking about iOS, one cannot fail to mention Siri, the question-and-answer system of this platform. It is still difficult to say what new iOS 11 will bring to the work of this artificial intelligence, but if Apple developers maintain the old vector of activity, Siri will receive more expanded functionality, the interaction between the robot and the user will improve, and the accuracy of command execution will increase.

iOS 11 release date

Traditionally, Apple presents updates for its operating systems at the beginning of each summer. Most likely, the 11th version of iOS will be no exception and will be presented in June 2017. The presentation will take place at a developer conference called WWDC. It is clear that the more precise date for the presentation of iOS 11 depends on the time of the conference itself (the date may still change several times before June).

Considering that the American Apple company always follows traditions, a beta version of the operating system will be shown during the first presentation. Some time after the release, the trial version will be available for download. As a rule, the very first version of the platform is downloaded by ardent Apple fans (for familiarization purposes), as well as testers. Throughout the summer, American developers will adjust the functioning of the new OS (make changes and fix errors).

If we talk about when the full-fledged iOS 11 will be released in Russia, then for now we can only give an approximate date: September 2017. Immediately after the operating system is fully developed, it will be available for updates on all devices that it supports.

So we tried to roughly understand what iOS 11 will be like. Of course, most of the information is based on the guesswork of users and analysts, but in the case of Apple there is no other way. We can only hope that the new version of this operating system will please the owners of Apple devices and give them the opportunities that they have long dreamed of.

iOS 11 Compatibility: As Apple has already launched the long-awaited iOS 10 software, fans are now eagerly awaiting the release of the next generation of the operating system. But ahead of iOS 11, the biggest question is what can we expect from this operating system and, most importantly, which devices will support iOS 11.

Here in this article, we have compiled a list of iOS-compatible devices, especially iPhones, iPads and iPods, that are eligible for this new operating system. Therefore, before the long-awaited operating system, you need to check your Apple device.

iOS 11 iPhone 5s compatible devices

All iPhones that fall under the iPhone series 5 and above are compatible with the iOS 10 operating system. But for iOS 11, this will not happen. According to various reports, iOS 11 will be compatible with iPhone 5s or above series. So if you're not sure what your iPhone model number is, simply go to your phone's “settings” and click on “about phone options.” You will get all the details about the phone and you can check whether your phone is compatible with iOS 11 or not.

Compatible Devices:

  • iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPhone 7
  • iPhone 6S
  • iPhone 6S Plus
  • iPhone 6
  • iPhone 6 Plus
  • iPhone SE
  • ios 11 iphone 5s

iOS 11 did not receive such drastic changes as the “ten”, but there is something to please us with. Apple has added many new features and further improved the stability of the operating system. Let's take a look at what iOS 11 will be like:

What's new in iOS 11 - Review

iOS 11 did not get a new design because Apple likes the flat style and is not going to change it yet. However, some interface elements have changed in iOS 11. Thus, in iOS 11, the design of the “Control Center” and the App Store has completely changed.

Updated Control Center

Control Center now looks like many separate elements. Previously, it was one container with buttons and toggle switches, now these are independent controls that support 3D Touch! Using this technology, you can expand the functionality of all controls in Control Center. Yes, it's time to upgrade to the latest iPhones that support 3D Touch technology so as not to miss out on opportunities.

Smarter Siri

Siri has become smarter, as you might expect. Apple's voice assistant does not stand still and develops every year. The visual interface has changed. Siri understands the context, i.e. can select the text according to the meaning of the sentence. Siri also knows what we like and what we are interested in, and she can use this knowledge to help us work with the device. She can even predict what we will write next! The power of artificial intelligence is growing. Some Siri features will be available without the Internet. Which is good news.

Optimization

Now, in iOS 11, all photos will be compressed using a new method and take up half the space in the device’s memory! And this cannot but rejoice. After all, precious memory on available versions of the iPhone and iPad always runs out quickly, but now it will be easier.

In addition, Apple has better optimized iOS 11, due to which the speed of working with devices has increased, and power consumption has decreased.

The changes also affected iMessage. Messages are now synced with iCloud. All devices will have the same messages. At the same time, using iMessage, you can send money to someone via Apple Pay directly in the message. And it seems, even, through Privat24. Many new stickers have been added. The application interface has also been updated in general.

Augmented reality AR

iOS 11 introduced AR - augmented reality. Craig Frederighi pointed the camera at the table and placed a cup of coffee and a lamp on it right on his phone. He turned on the lamp and started moving the cup of coffee. A dynamic shadow fell from a cup of coffee. Later they demonstrated a virtual toy car assembled from a Lego constructor, which was disassembled into parts in one tap and all this in the form of augmented reality AR.

New App Store

The App Store receives 500 million visitors per week. 180 billion downloads today for all time. $70 billion paid to developers. The coolest app store in the world! The App Store has a new design. Now there is a separate tab “Games”, “Applications”, “Today”. New look for application pages. And most importantly, the “Today” tab shows the application of the day, week, and generally useful suggestions.

Apple Music

Apple Music already has 27 million paid subscribers. And now, Apple has added the ability to see what your friends are listening to. Reminds me of the possibility of the social network VKontakte. There weren't any other major changes with the music.

Files

The “Files” application has appeared, which is most likely a modified “iCloud Drive”. It has a cool interface and several small new features.

Calculator

The calculator has changed its design. Finally, it looks more beautiful than the previous version. To be honest, the design of the calculator in iOS 6 was the best and in the “seven” it was simply disfigured. Now it looks more like an attractive application.

Screenshots

Apple added in iOS 11 the ability to edit taken screenshots. After you take a screenshot, it goes to the lower left corner and you have two options: you can swipe it to the left and hide it, or you can tap on it and go to the screenshot editing window, where you can make a mark with a pencil or brush. You can also crop the screenshot right away. This is a useful feature.

New icons in Settings

New Siri and Emergency SOS icons have appeared in the Settings application.

Will iOS 11 work on iPhone 4S and iPhone 5?

Definitely iOS 11 will not work on the iPhone 4S. At least for the reasons that the previous iOS 10 no longer supported it. The iPhone 4S has already been “taken out of the game” and will no longer receive updates. But the iPhone 5 is in question. It is not yet known whether iOS 11 will come to the iPhone 5. And we will find out 100% information with you only at the presentation of iOS 11. Previously, no way. The same thing happened last year with iOS 10 and iPhone 4S. Until recently, no one knew whether the iPhone 4S would support iOS 10. And they only found out at the presentation. But, if you think about it and weigh everything wisely, then most likely iOS 11 will not work on the iPhone 5, because, judging by the situation with iOS 10 and iPhone 4S, Apple is gradually releasing older gadgets that are not equipped with 64-bit processors ( new generation processors). If the iPhone 5 doesn't support iOS 11, then the iPhone 5C won't either. Then, the oldest iPhone that will support the “eleven” will be the iPhone 5S.

Will iOS 11 work on iPhone 5S and iPhone 6?

iOS 11 will work 100% on iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, iPhone SE. Because these are all fresh iPhones with modern hardware and they still have a long way to go in the game. Moreover, they have 64-bit processors installed.

Will iOS 11 work on iPad mini and iPad 4?

The first generation iPad mini didn’t even support Windows 10, so there’s no need to hope that it will support iOS 11. But the iPad mini 2 Retina display will support iOS 11. And all younger models will also support the update. The iPad 4 will most likely stop supporting new updates because it has old hardware, by the way, almost the same as the iPhone 5, so the iPad 4 is unlikely to support iOS 11. Airs and Pros will naturally support iOS 11, because these are the most advanced and modern devices today.

Will iOS 11 work on iPod Touch 6 gen

iPod Touch 6 gen will support iOS 11, as it is considered a fresh device with modern hardware. But the 5th generation iPod Touch will definitely not support iOS 11, because already last year Apple prohibited updating to iOS 10. iPod Touch 5 is simply outdated and new versions can no longer be installed on it.

When will iOS 11 be released?

As always, at the same time, Apple presents its operating systems in the summer at the beginning of June. And in 2017 there will be no exception, Apple will present iOS 11 at a developer conference in early June 2017. However, the release date for iOS 11 on devices is September 2017. In June, Apple reveals a new OS, then spends the whole summer releasing beta versions, and in September, iOS 11 will be available for update on all supported devices.
