Irfanview does not show the following files in the folder. IrfanView what is this program and is it needed? How do I download file types WITHOUT any extension while browsing

IrfanView is a free image, audio and video viewer. IrfanView is the most popular image viewer in the world.

The free (for non-commercial use) photo viewer IrfanView has extensive functionality for working with images.

The developer of the program, then a student, Irfan Skilyan created IrfanView back in 1996. Since then, the program has in many cases been the first to introduce innovative features, which are then added to programs of this type. Irfan Skilyan claims that other developers often copy all his developments, especially the XnView program.

The IrfanView program has an unusual logo that depicts a squashed cat. At one time, a small pet was crushed by a car, and the owner immortalized the cat in the logo of his program.

The main features of the IrfanView program:

  • View graphic files of a large number of formats.
  • View video and audio files.
  • Support for plug-ins that expand the capabilities of the program.
  • Creation of screenshots.
  • Obtaining an image from a scanner, printing.
  • Batch convert or rename files.
  • Create web pages from images.
  • slideshow mode.
  • Support for basic image editing functions.
  • Working from the command line.
  • Support for Adobe Photoshop filters.
  • Integration with Total Commander.

IrfanView supports basic image operations: rotate, resize, color correct, color replacement, red-eye removal, panorama, various effects (blur, emboss, pixelate, paint, sepia, raindrops, etc.), crop , adding text or a watermark, converting to other formats, etc. IrfanView supports animated GIF files that can be storyboarded as separate files.

Plugins (additional plug-ins), which can be downloaded from the official site, greatly expand the functionality of the IrfanView program.

The IrfanView program can be downloaded from the official website. Please note that the site has a regular version of the program for installation on a computer and a portable version that does not require installation. Initially, you need to download a file or archive in English (German), and then additionally download the Russian language pack (an executable file for installation or an archive for a portable version).

32-bit and 64-bit versions of IrfanView are offered for download. The 64 bit version has some advantages, but not all plugins work in this version of the program yet. The 32-bit version of the program works on the Windows operating system of any bitness.

download

To install on a computer, download the installer and crack. During the installation of IrfanView, various file formats can be associated with the program.

Russification of IrfanView

After installing the IrfanView program on your computer, run the Russification file to install the Russian language.

To use the portable version, unpack the archive with the IrfanView Portable program, and then the archive with the crack. After unpacking the Russian language archive, copy the Russian.dll and IP_Russian.lng files from the "Languages" folder of the archive to the "Languages" folder of the program. Then copy the "Help" folder from the archive to the folder with the program.

IrfanView Interface

After starting, the IrfanView program window will open with a convenient and simple interface. The application opens graphic files very quickly.

To perform the necessary actions in IrfanView, enter the corresponding menu item, from where you can perform the corresponding operation with the graphic file.

From the "File" menu, open the image, perform the necessary actions with the photo: resize, rotate, replace the color, apply effects. This photo has a 3D button effect applied.

Installing plugins in IrfanView

With the help of plugins, additional functionality is added to the IrfanView program. Download the installation file or archive with plugins from the official site. After launching the executable file, the plugins will be installed in the "Plugins" folder, which is located in the folder of the installed program.

From the download page, you can download separately plugins for the 64-bit version of IrfanView.

For IrfanView Portable, unzip the archive with plugins, and then copy the contents of the folder to the "Plugins" folder, which is located in the IrfanView program folder.

Batch processing photos in IrfanView

Enter the "File" menu, click on the "Convert / Rename Group of Files" item. In the window that opens, select the necessary files in the Explorer, select them, and then click on the "Add" button. If necessary, add images from another folder. The added pictures are displayed as a list at the bottom of the window.

Further, photos can be sorted according to certain parameters by clicking on the "Sort files" button, and then performing the necessary actions. Using the buttons "Above" and "Below" you can swap the pictures.

I chose the Transform with Rename option. In the Conversion Options section, select the resulting format. The drop-down list provides a large selection of graphic formats to which you can convert files.

If you need to change the resolution of photos, as well as change the appearance of images, activate the item “With additional settings (batch resizing ...”). In the case of a simple conversion, do not check this item.

Next, click on the "Setup" button. In the All Images Options window, you can significantly change the look of your photos. You can crop images, resize photos, change color depth, save or load settings. After making the changes, click on the "OK" button.

Then click the "Browse" button to select the folder where the converted images will be saved. Processed photos can be left in the current folder, to do this, click on the "Use current folder" button.

Click the "Start" button to start the process of batch image conversion.

Next, a window will open in which you will be informed that the batch conversion has been completed. Now you can open the folder and make sure that after batch processing the photos, the images are saved in a different format and have a different size.

Watching video and listening to audio in IrfanView

In the IrfanView program, you can play video files, listen to music. To do this, you need to install plugins that expand the capabilities of the program (I described above how to do this). IrfanView supports QuickTime to open Apple Quicktime files.

Open a folder with video or audio files in the program, select the desired file, and then select the file type: "All supported Video files" or "All supported Sound files".

IrfanView can open documents in the following test formats: PDF, DJVU, TXT.

Article Conclusions

The free IrfanView program has a wide range of functionality for viewing and editing images. IrfanView supports video and audio playback, slideshow creation, image scanning and printing.

»

This is very convenient, because if some program functions are not needed, then plugins will not need to be loaded. The IrfanView program has Russification modules.

When installing the program, it is possible to choose that all graphic, video, sound and animation files are loaded into the IrfanView window.

If desired, this can be changed in the program settings window by checking or unchecking the boxes in the corresponding lines.

Working with Images in IrfanView

Various buttons are displayed on the IrfanView toolbar. So buttons with arrows, allow you to view the next or previous picture of the folder. You can also scroll through the pictures using the space bar.

Double-clicking on the picture will put IrfanView in full-screen mode, you can use the Enter key to do this.

The Esc key will return to normal mode. Buttons with a magnifying glass, of course, increase or decrease the scale of the picture.

At the bottom of the program window there is an information line or a status line, which displays the image dimensions - 567 × 330 and how many colors are in it - 24 BPP.

Here you can also see the number of the picture and how many of them are in the folder - 1/7, the percentage of reduction or increase, size, date and time of creation.

The IrfanView program allows you to perform image processing. The commands are in the menu Images. These are such as:

  1. 90 and 180 degree turns
  2. mirror flip,
  3. changing image parameters:
  • size,
  • Images,
  • chromaticity, etc.

There is a correction of the color balance for the three primary colors, brightness and contrast. Two windows open: in the left - the original, and in the right - the picture, as it will become as a result of processing.

The IrfanView program also provides special effects:

  • bulk button,
  • blur,
  • relief,
  • Oil paint,
  • contour selection, etc.

With the command C1-E, you can get a choice of parameters for these effects and a preview.

IrfanView supports slideshow

On command W The IrfanView program is also capable of performing a slide show, that is, a full-screen view of a sequence of drawings. The program can include films of different formats in one slide film.

First, the program will ask you to make a list of viewed drawings in the upper right window. In line File type You can choose one type or several types.

In the upper right window, select what you need and drag it to the lower window with the mouse or by pressing the key Add. Sends to the selected list and double-clicking on the picture.

By pressing the button File sorting you can sort them by name, date, size, type, etc.

In section File change you can specify how the program should switch to the next picture - automatically or manually, in order or randomly.

For automatic viewing, you need to specify the time interval after which the switching will occur.

You can set a larger interval if comments are provided during the demonstration, and if the size of the comment cannot be determined in advance, mark the line with the mouse button to switch to a new drawing manually.

By pressing the key Start slideshow view mode will turn on. In automatic viewing mode, any mouse click and any key pressed will stop the display.

Except key Pause, which only pauses it. Pressing any key resumes viewing.

In the manual view mode, the right mouse button and the right arrow of the cursor scroll through the list forward, and the left button and left arrow - back.

You will be asked to specify the file name, format (splash screen or executable), as well as the window size or full screen display mode.

On the menu File there is a useful command - Convert/rename group of files. We are talking about batch - group - conversion of drawings from one format to another.

Here you will be prompted, as in the description of the slide show, to select data, throw them into the list and set the output format.

Files of various types will be converted to one format in one operation and placed where you specify. Instead of batch conversion, you can specify batch renaming by template.

There is another interesting command in the menu File, is called . In a separate window, it shows the current contents of the folder, much like Explorer does in Thumbnails mode. This is a very visual mode that allows you to quickly find the desired picture in the folder.

It is possible to select, copy, delete or transfer data - everything that is necessary.

Selected files can be immediately played in a slideshow. The program will not even ask for any parameters, it will start with default parameters.

By double-clicking or pressing the spacebar, you return to the main program window. We looked at the picture large, did something with it, and then click Tab and return to IrfanView thumbnail mode.

We select sketches and you can make something like a catalog - on paper, in the form of a graphic or hypertext file. The created directory can be written to disk.

You can create a hypertext catalog. By executing the command Save selected thumbnails as HTML file..., you will get a page with images and filenames. We click on the sketch and the drawing itself, video or music is called up.

Preparing an image for the Internet

Another interesting feature in IrfanView is the preparation of an image for publication on the Internet. The problem is that often a published or transmitted image file is required.

By installing a special plugin, the IrfanView program does a good job of this. On the menu File command appears Save for Web… (plugin), which opens a window with two fields.

The left field displays a picture with the original data, and the right field shows an optimized image. There are many parameters that can be applied in order to compress the image quite strongly in the end.

It is possible to change the color scheme, there will be a slight deterioration in quality, but this is not noticeable to the eye. This reduces the size of the image.

There is such a tool in IrfanView as the overall quality slider, which allows you to reduce the image in all respects.

These are the features that IrfanView provides users with, which are definitely worth using when working with images and multimedia files.

How many of you have not encountered the problem of batch processing images? For those who have not come across, I will explain: often for a large number of images of the same type, you need to apply the same actions. Of course, it is possible to manually perform hundreds of repetitive actions, but we know that it is laziness that is the engine of progress, and therefore we will leave shovels for those who like to dig by hand, and we ourselves will sit behind the wheel of an excavator;)

The easiest way to "shovel" through hundreds of images with a few clicks of the mouse is batch processing using a freeware program. This software product has a built-in function B atch conversion (batch conversion) called by hotkey B.

Note. This tutorial uses IrfanView 4.10, the interface may be slightly different in earlier versions.

So, with the help of IrfanView Thumbnails (hot key T) open the folder with images that need processing. For example, a series of portraits of students of the "School University":

All photos were taken under equal conditions, and therefore require approximately the same type of actions in processing, namely:

The size of each file is 2-3 megabytes, this is related to the size of the image. This size will be necessary if the photos are being prepared for printing, but in this case we will prepare them for viewing on the screen, that is, a vertical size of 600 px will be enough.

Photos must be rotated 90° to the right.

Then brighten, and also make it a little more contrast and clear.

Finally, press the magic key B, which opens the Batch conversion window.

From the Work as menu, select Batch conversion - Rename result files (batch conversion - rename the resulting files).

Output format select JPG, Options (options) leave the default.

Check the box Use advanced options (use advanced options). We will return to the Advanced button later.

In the Name pattern column, enter the name of future files. Icon # replaces here the image number in order. Since in our case more than a hundred images will be processed, this number must be at least three digits.

In the Output directory for result files field, specify the directory for the final files. If you click the Use current ("look in") directory button, the same folder as the source files will be selected. You can add a subfolder to the path, it will be created automatically.

The Add all button adds all files from the above folder to the Input files field. The same can be done manually by adding each required file with the Add button or by dragging it with the mouse.

After that, let's move on to the "advanced" options - click the Advanced button, which was written about in paragraph 3.

This window contains the main required functions.

Put a tick next to RESIZE (Resize).

In the field Set new size (set a new size) select the item Set long side to (set the long side), in the next window we write 600.

From pixels, centimeters and inches we select pixels (pixels).

Check the boxes next to Preserve aspect ratio (proportional) (preserve aspect ratio) and Use Resample function (better quality) (use the conversion function for better image quality). We will not check the box next to Don "t enlarge smaller images (do not enlarge smaller images), since in our case all source photos significantly exceed 600px on the long side.

Put a checkmark next to Rotate right (rotate to the right).

Increase Sharpness (Sharpen), Brightness (Brightness) and Contrast (Contrast). It is worth noting that there are many other options in the OTHER OPTIONS field, each of which is used as needed in certain cases. Experiment!

In the Batch Conversion window, click the big Start Batch button. Your further actions depend on the power of your machine, the number of files to be converted and your imagination. Alternatively, you can drink tea or chat with friends (or better, both).

Voila! After some time, the cherished phrase Batch conversion done appears in the Converting Images window, which means it's time to see if you are satisfied with the results. If not, experiment with the settings (do not forget to first delete the final images that you are going to replace - IrfanView is very careful and does not overwrite existing files). If you have achieved the desired results, then you can be congratulated - now you have much more time that you can spend with benefit (or not). ;)

Note. It should be noted that such actions, of course, can be performed using Actions in Adobe Photoshop, but it is much easier and faster to do everything you need using the simple and easily customizable IrfanView program, which is also absolutely free for non-commercial use. You can download the latest version from the developer's website.

IrfanView is one of the most popular graphics viewers, thanks not only to its many features, but also to its multilingual interface and free status.

This program will appeal primarily to those who are accustomed to minimalism - IrfanView does not have a fancy interface or beautiful icons, but there is almost everything that you might need when viewing pictures. By the way, the program settings allow you to completely remove all interface elements and leave only the field for viewing files. In this case, you will have to control the program using hotkey combinations, of which there are a lot in IrfanView.

One of the features of IrfanView is the execution of the file browser - it is made in the form of a separate Thumbnails utility (thumbnails), which is a window with a folder tree on the left side, and preview images are generated on the right side. If there are a lot of graphics in the folder, the thumbnail generation process may take quite a long time, but it can be stopped - the Stop button is intended for this.

Another feature of the program is aimed at making viewing graphics in full screen mode the most comfortable. In order to do this, in the upper left corner of the screen, you can display custom information about the file. By default, the file name and path to it on disk are displayed, but this information can be supplemented with data on the file size, color depth, resolution, creation date, etc.

Immediately after installation, IrfanView supports quite a lot of formats, not only graphic, but also multimedia - video and audio, but if a file that is not supported by the program is found, it will almost certainly be possible to add support for this format, for you just need to connect to it is one of the many plugins.

The distribution kit of the program includes modules for applying simple effects, viewing icon files, video (Mpg), creating a slide show; additional plug-ins will significantly expand the list of supported formats - work with MP3, Nero, QuickTime, RealAudio formats, Adobe Photoshop filters (8BF), BodyPaint 3D program files, CAD system files, etc. The ability to use Adobe Photoshop filters is supported.

Image editing features include changing color depth, cropping, resizing, converting from one format to another, while IrfanView supports editing multi-page TIF files, as well as rotating *.JPG files without losing their quality. It is allowed to create a slideshow in the form of an EXE file, as well as in the form of a splash screen (.SCR format), as well as batch file processing

In addition to all this, IrfanView allows you to take screenshots from the screen, has the function of pulling icons from *.exe and *.dll files.
