"Email-pensioners"

In the past it was popular email services that have been used by millions of people. But at the moment they are morally and functionally outdated, which makes their use irrational. The decline in activity occurred in 2010–2014, so the interface in 99% of cases has not changed since those years. These include:

• Rambler.Mail.
• MetaMail.

If you have a mailbox from this list, we recommend creating a new one (on another, more modern service) and setting up forwarding of all incoming messages to it. Otherwise, you risk losing all your information if the service ceases to exist.

Foreign postal services

International postal services are quite different from domestic ones. At the beginning it is not so noticeable, but after a few months you can already feel the difference. Especially when it comes to security and privacy. Let's look at specific examples.

A Gmail account provides access to all Google programs and services. The possibilities and advantages of such an account are so extensive that they deserve a separate article. Therefore, we will focus only on the email box.

The standard interface is quite convenient, but you can always customize it to your liking. Registration is standard, but you don’t have to specify a phone number, which simplifies the registration process several times. After it you get 20 gigabytes of cloud storage and unlimited mail space.

Security in Gmail is at a very high level. If there is any suspicion that the email is not being used by the owner, the service sends a notification and asks for confirmation. This seems like paranoia, but given the close connection of the account with all Google services, these are quite adequate precautions. For maximum security, it is advisable to enable two-factor authentication and set up an additional password recovery box.

Hotmail (Outlook)

• Domain- from the list, select the domain name that will be used after the sign @ in the email address.
• Nicknames- indicate additional mailing addresses that you can use for this mailbox. Mail sent to one of these addresses will be automatically forwarded to the user's mailbox. Enter multiple addresses here, separated by a space. The main email address (Name@Domain) does not need to be specified. All aliases work only for the domain of the main mailbox, so you do not need to specify the domain part of the mailbox.
• Password- enter a password to log into your mailbox.
• Confirmation- repeat the password to make sure you entered it correctly.
• Max. size- specify the maximum size of disk space that the contents of the mailbox can occupy.
• Send copies of letters by e-mail- specify the email addresses or names of local users to which copies of all incoming messages for this mailbox will be automatically redirected.
• Don't save to box- check the box so that forwarded mail is not saved in the local mailbox. If you do not want to save mail to a mailbox, indicate at least one forwarding address in the "Send copies of letters by e-mail" field.

Editing mailbox settings

To change the settings of an existing mailbox, select it from the list, click the "Edit" button and edit. The editing form is similar to the form for creating a new mailbox.

You cannot change the name of an existing mailbox or the domain on which it was created.

Setting up an answering machine

You can configure your mail server to automatically send a message in response to incoming email. This can be useful, for example, if you will be away for a while and want mail senders to know that you will read it when you return. Or to let your customers know that their message has been delivered and is waiting to be processed.

To do this, you can use your mailbox autoresponder. Select the desired mailbox in the list, click the "Autoresponder" button and fill out the fields of the following form:

• From- indicate the name and email address that will be indicated in the sender address of the answering machine message.
• Subject- this line will be indicated in the subject of all autoresponder messages.
• Message- the text of the answering machine message. If you want to disable autoresponder, clear this field.
• Attach file- select the file you want to attach to the answering machine message.
• Enable answering machine- check the box to enable autoresponder.

The answering machine works once a day (introduced so as not to loop when the answering machine responds to the answering machine). To trigger the autoresponder again sooner than in a day, you can reset /var/www/username/data/email/mail.test/box/.responder.db.

Removing mailboxes

To delete a mailbox, select it in the list and click the "Delete" button. To prevent accidental deletions, the control panel will ask you to confirm or cancel your action. If you click "OK" in the confirmation window, all selected mailboxes will be deleted.
