The systematic shutdown of analogue television broadcasting in favor of digital broadcasting is in full swing. Digital TV means not only high quality of broadcast images and sound, but also stable broadcasting. However, sometimes problems with television still arise. As a result, the device does not pick up digital channels.

When you first start the receiver, the user configures TV channels. Mostly this process is carried out automatically. However, what should you do if, due to a poor signal on your TV, you cannot tune in to the channels included in two free multiplexes?

There may actually be several reasons. These are the ones we will talk about now. Reasons why digital channels are not shown

Conventionally, all reasons can be divided into 4 categories:

  • hardware or software failure of the equipment;
  • carrying out repair work;
  • natural factor;
  • termination of broadcast.

Of course, you first need to determine why digital television does not work. Diagnosis comes down to studying the symptoms, for example, if the image becomes square or the sound is delayed, this may be a consequence of bad weather or a thunderstorm.

It is almost impossible to avoid the listed problems, since for the most part they are of a force majeure nature. The only exception is equipment failure. Preventing software failures is quite simple - update the operating system of the set-top box in a timely manner. With hardware damage is even easier - follow the rules for operating the equipment.

The equipment has failed

  • cable fault.

First, let's deal with the incorrect operation of the digital set-top box. There is no point in focusing too much attention on this point, since the symptoms of a receiver failure are obvious. When the receiver is turned on, the indicators indicating that the equipment is starting up will not light up. Sometimes the LED lights up, but it's extremely dim.

Many tuners are equipped with an independent 5 Volt power supply. Most set-top boxes are equipped with a standard adapter, so checking its functionality is extremely easy; you can connect a similar component from the router.

In some situations, testing the voltage level with a multimeter does not give results, since in the absence of loads the measurement will show the 5 Volts established by the regulations.

Poor sound from the DVB-T2 tuner is another symptom. Sometimes the device simply reboots or randomly turns off and does not respond to commands from the remote control.

Another common type of hardware problem is faulty cables and connections. As a result, absolutely all channels are not shown because the signal is lost. Carefully check absolutely all connections and cable integrity.

Particular attention should be paid to the white wire (RG-6), which is intended for internal installation. The service life of this cable is extremely short, especially if you used it during external installation. Water gets into it, thereby destroying the braid.

The third reason for problems with equipment is a malfunction of the antenna. Indoor antennas rarely fail, unlike outdoor ones. Predominantly, the catalyst for failure is precipitation or thunderstorms. You can try to reconfigure the receiver several times, but the channels will not be found.   1. Check the cable and plugs.
  2. Assess the voltage supply from the set-top box or power adapter.
  3. Connect the new antenna.

I already wrote that I caught the first number on simple “horns” in the city center, on the second floor and there are few buildings around. The signal quality is excellent. Intensity 80%, quality 60-80%

The higher the quality and intensity, the better

But when I moved to another area of ​​the city, to an apartment on the 9th floor, a house in a low area and many other houses around – these horns did not catch anything. More precisely, the auto search did not catch anything. I was very surprised (the tower is located nearby), I entered the frequency manually through a manual search (which I advise you to do), and it turned out that the signal level was 10-15%! This is clearly not enough for reliable reception of digital TV.

We look at the signal level. To view the signal level, find the INFO button on the remote control(or something similar), and press it three times: you will see this:

The same thing can happen to you, if you are far from the tower, or there are many buildings around that interfere with reception.

Important: if both the intensity and quality are low, the signal must be amplified.

Either buy an antenna with an amplifier, or put the existing one outside, raise it higher, and so on.

But if the intensity is high, but the quality is low, then it’s more interesting. You will need to adjust the antenna. That is, in fact, to turn it in different directions, in the literal sense. The digital TV signal is very sensitive to obstacles such as reinforced concrete walls or plastic window frames. The good news is that the “digital” is excellent even from the reflected signal. The only question is to find a position for the antenna at which everything will work well.

I did just that, bought an antenna with an amplifier, and connected it to the set-top box. Without an amplifier, of course, the signal level is the same as for horns. With the amplifier, the intensity increased to 80%, but the quality began to jump at the level of 20-30%, depending on where the antenna was pointed. And some pictures and friezes even began to pop up:

As a result, inside the room I managed to get a maximum of 35% quality with the antenna at arm's length. I already decided that that’s it, I won’t have “digits” and I bought a set-top box with an antenna in vain.

But then I placed the antenna on the windowsill. And I started setting it up there. Amazingly, I achieved 50-60% quality at the first multiplex, and 35-45% at the second! Only by changing the position of the round antenna. (The horns catch the meter range, and the circle – the decimeter range, so we adjust the circle).

At the same time, I found a position for the antenna in which both multiplexes were picked up. Since they are transmitted by different towers at different frequencies, they can be received differently. So, when you turn the antenna, check the channel from one multiplex and the channel from another. Optimally – First and Muz TV – switching is convenient)

Well, now everything is fine, and 50-60% at the first multiplex

You need to determine why digital television is not working. AND if it's a matter of signal strength, then increase it. Or try to tune it by manipulating the antenna. That is, display information about the signal strength on the screen and begin to quietly turn the antenna. Most likely, you will be able to find an antenna position at which both multiplexes will work well.

If the TV shows nothing at all

You selected the wrong video input or did not switch the TV to AV or HDMI mode. Or they simply didn’t turn on the set-top box; it should have an indicator that lights up green when turned on. The set-top box is turned on either with a button on it or with the remote control.
