UNetBootin program

The main window of the program looks quite ascetic. Here you need to select Disk Image, the letter that is assigned to the removable media. The ISO image address is specified manually. After adding the image, files are extracted and copied to the flash drive.

Other programs for preparing a bootable Windows 7 flash drive work similarly, such as USB/DVD Download Tool, Rufus, the operation of which will be described below, etc.

Creating a bootable USB flash drive for Windows 7 is not enough - the image recorded on it still needs to be opened somehow. If the system continues to work, then this should not cause any problems. However, if nothing starts already, you will have to go into BIOS settings.

Important note: Depending on the year of manufacture BIOS version there are different ones. They also differ in appearance, but the names of menu items remain virtually unchanged.

Opening the BIOS by pressing the Del, F2 or other key specified in start window download, you need to go to Advanced tab BIOS Features. Here the devices are placed in the order they were launched. Simply put, first the system, for example, loads a CDROM, then hard drive, then USB-HDD.

To do this, press the Enter key on the first line to open a menu in which all connected devices are presented. Then select USB-HDD from the list provided. In second place, put the download from hard drive(HDD), let CDROM remain in third position.

Possible problems with loading media through BIOS:

  • The motherboard simply doesn't support booting from external storage(if it was developed before 2003, this is a very real reason);
  • Incorrect bootable windows 7 usb flash drive. Perhaps mistakes were made during its creation. To rule out this option, test the media on another computer where motherboard accurately supports reading removable disks;
  • The USB controller is disabled in the BIOS.

If you are installing the system on a computer, it is recommended to immediately connect the drive through the port located directly on the motherboard, bypassing the connectors located on the front panel of the system unit.

If the UEFI interface is installed

UEFI is replacing the traditional BIOS - new interface, which copes better with modern hardware. Essentially, UEFI performs the same functions as BIOS, providing a pre-boot environment for the OS.

However, creating a bootable Windows 7 uefi USB flash drive is somewhat different from the usual procedure for preparing installation removable media.

There are two ways:

  • Use of software;
  • Manual drive setup.

Let's consider each option in detail.

As you can see, there is nothing complicated here. All fields are very clear and are usually filled in automatically. But so that the question of how to make a bootable Windows 7 flash drive using this program is studied thoroughly, let’s briefly go through the points presented in the main window:

  • The device is your flash drive onto which you plan to write the operating system image;
  • Partition scheme - leave GPT with UEFI by default;
  • The file system and cluster size are also set automatically. They should not be changed;
  • The Create bootable disk field allows you to select the path to the ISO image.

After specifying and checking all the parameters, all that remains is to click Start, starting the process of copying files. The recording speed is approximately comparable to the speed of regular copying of information to removable media.

Considering that the program creates a bootable USB flash drive, a higher figure is simply impossible.

Manual setting

Run Command Prompt as Administrator. You can do this using context menu called by right-clicking on a shortcut command line V standard programs Windows.

Enter following lines in the window that appears:

  • diskpart;
  • list disk.

A list of connected drives will appear. Find your flash drive (you can do this by its size). Look at the number she identified - you will need it for further work with the carrier. For example, let's take number 6 (it may be different for you).

So, the order is as follows:

  1. Select disk 6 – select a specific disk with which all further manipulations will be performed;
  2. Clean – the media is cleared of data written to it;
  3. Create partition primary – a partition is created;
  4. Format fs=fat32 quick – the created partition is formatted into the FAT32 file system;
  5. Active – the section is marked as active;
  6. Assign – assigns a name or connection point;
  7. List volume – check the correctness of your actions. Pay attention to the letter that is assigned to your carrier. Remember it;
  8. Exit – exit from Diskpart.

For clarity, look at the picture - there is nothing complicated here.

After preliminary preparation All that remains is to copy the contents of the image to the media.

Since we are making a bootable USB flash drive for Windows 7, we will have to use additional software to open the image (in the eighth version of Windows, you can mount the image directly in the system). Hello friends! Today we’ll talk again about creating a bootable USB flash drive.

How to create bootable usb device? For what purposes should I use it and what program should I use to record it?

A brief overview of the five most popular and free programs to create a bootable USB flash drive.

Modern developments do not stand still, and yesterday's technologies are slowly but surely losing their relevance. So the once popular CDs and DVDs no longer seem like such a clear solution for storing, transferring and working with information. High speed data reading, versatility and reusability are just a small part of all the advantages of a flash drive as a bootable medium over disks. Today almost everything personal computers and laptops, if they are less than ten years old, support the ability to boot from USB devices. And in some cases (for example, a netbook), a flash drive may be the only boot device from an external drive.

By the way, the new Windows 10 operating system will be the first axis, the distribution of which will be officially distributed on a USB drive. And if you suddenly need to recover files from a flash drive, read about it. I also recommend paying attention to, which will help you take your mind off everyday work and lift your spirits.

By using additional software A flash drive can be used not only as a boot device for installing, reinstalling and restoring the operating system, but also to create an emergency device (Multiboot). This is a kind of resuscitator, a tool from which you can boot at any time and cure your computer of viruses, restore system files or save important data. I described how to create such a flash drive-reanimator in the article “Creating boot Live CD/DVD/USB devices and its application." You can read this article.

Despite all the obvious advantages and the growing popularity of a flash drive as a bootable device, there are not so many programs for creating it. Nevertheless, they exist, and today I will introduce you to them in more detail, but first a few words about the preparatory stage.

Preparing a flash drive

We will need the flash drive itself, plus knowledge of some important aspects. First, you need to make sure that your computer supports booting from USB devices. There is a misconception that if in bios ( boot section) there is no option to select boot from usb (only floppi, hdd and dvd-rom options are present), then boot from usb is not supported. This is wrong!

More precisely, this is not always the case. Only right decision- refer to the manual (user manual) of your motherboard or using specialized software (as an option - AIDA64) to obtain a detailed report on the hardware used.

The second point is the size of the flash drive. Here everything will depend on what we write on it. For example, to create a Live-USB, installation Linux disk or Windows 7, a 4 GB flash drive is enough. To create a bootable device with the latest versions of Windows, it is advisable to have a flash drive of at least 8 GB on hand.

The third point is transferring files from a flash drive. Typically, the process of creating a boot device involves full formatting. If there is a flash drive important files, transfer them to another device in advance. To create a bootable USB flash drive and then work with it as a boot device, use USB port-2.0 (Windows 7 does not support USB 3.0).

To create a bootable flash drive, in the main window of Daemon Tools Ultra, select the “Tools” menu item, and among its commands is “Burn boot image to USB". Or the hotkey combination Ctrl+B.

In the recording parameters window, specify the path to the image, enable the MBR rewrite option and click “Start”.

When the flash drive is ready, all that remains is to boot from it. The easiest way is to use the boot menu keys. The table below shows clear example such keys.
