How to disable the sensor in a laptop. Shutdown using the keyboard

This article will tell you how to disable the touchpad on an Asus laptop. After all, practice shows that there are a variety of ways to solve this problem.

And these ways, both obvious and not so. But first of all, the knowledge from this article is focused on solving the inverse problem.

How to enable disabled touchpad. After all, the actions are mutually inverse.

Shutdown using the keyboard

The first and most obvious way to solve the problem. There is a special function button on the laptop keyboard itself. Usually it is located near the "Start" button and has the inscription "Fn".

This button is the key to disabling the touchpad. In the same way, it will be possible to turn on part of the device.

Note: The practice of service centers shows that such a shutdown is the most common problem with the touch panel. Most often, users accidentally hit the desired combination. And then they begin to believe that the device is out of order. Everything is solved with the simple push of two buttons.

Consider the simplest Asus laptop keyboard using the x540sc as an example. The necessary buttons are especially clearly visible on it. But, for clarity, they are highlighted in red.

The first labeled button is “Fn”. This is the function key mentioned above. The second dedicated button is F9. It shows a crossed-out touchpad. Pressing the “F9” button while holding the “Fn” button causes the touchpad to turn off.

A touchpad that has stopped working can be turned back on. To do this, you will need to re-apply the same combination. The main thing is not to get confused in the number of clicks!

Disable using Device Manager

This method will be discussed using the example of Windows 10. On Windows 7, it is slightly different, namely the way the Device Manager is launched. It will be described in a separate footnote. Otherwise, the methods are the same. Let's go in order:

Important: Not all laptops support turning the touchpad back on using hotkeys. Turning off the device driver disables the hotkey combination. Therefore, the reverse inclusion is possible only in a similar way.

By the way, on Windows 7, opening the "Device Manager" occurs in a similar way. Just for this you need to open the "Control Panel" and find the corresponding element in it. This is done through the Start menu.

The hardest way

This method is not present in all Asus laptops. Its use has a number of risks and involves working with the BIOS. This method is so complicated that it should be handled with extreme care.

Rather, there are no particular difficulties, but it is possible to disrupt the system. Therefore, apart from the specified setting, nothing needs to be changed.

We restart the computer. This is required to enter the BIOS. At the moment when the laptop turns off, you should start pressing one of the following buttons:

The specific button is determined by the model of the laptop itself. You can peep it on the official website of the manufacturer. Or just try to find the right key.

Use the Up or Down arrows to select Enter Setup. The second option for the desired name is "Enter BIOS". This window will differ depending on the equipment and model of the laptop.

Pressing the “Enter” key will bring up the BIOS menu.

Switching with the arrows "Left" or "Right" you should select the item "Advanced". The required option is located there.

Use the Up and Down arrows to select the “Touchpad” or “Internal Pointing Device” section. As you can see the status of the device is “Enabled”. Pressing “Enter” brings up a window that allows you to change this option. Just set it to "Disabled".

Now there is only one way to turn the touchpad back on - this very one. All other means simply will not work. The function button or device manager simply won't have access to that device. It won't even get food. Therefore, this method is the most reliable.

extreme ways

Of course, this method is not exhausted. Not considered, for example, the way to turn off through the touchpad utility. But now we are talking about extreme methods. That is, those that can turn into a number of problems. And just don't use them.

Cut the loop. The touchpad can be disabled permanently by simply breaking it. Hammering a nail into the device is a fun option, but it can damage the laptop. Therefore, when disassembling, you can simply cut off the cable (a group of wires) leading to the touch panel. True, this is a frank destruction of technology and is almost irreparable.

Turn off loop. More humane, but similar to the previous method. During disassembly, 65% of laptops require the touchpad cable to be disconnected to remove the top cover. You can simply not connect it back. This is also an option to disable the touchpad. This time it's physical.

Shutdown through the utility

The latter method is mentioned in passing. ASUS touchpads have a control program (not a driver, but a configuration utility) is an exception. Yes, and the device works without it. But if such a program is available, then shutdown can be done using it.

To do this, right-click on its icon in the tray and select the "turn off" item. The reverse inclusion is possible in the same way.

In addition to turning it on and off, the program also allows you to configure the touchpad itself. Sensitivity and cursor speed. Therefore, duplication of a function is often found in the settings of manipulators.

Not all users know that the touchpad can be disabled on an Asus laptop. How to do it and why is it necessary? After all, this technical device is useful. But when using a traditional mouse, sometimes you may need to avoid duplication of control functions.

In this case, the question arises: what are the ways to disable the touchpad and what are the solutions to this problem?

Why is a touchpad needed?

This device is a special touch panel that is designed to control the device without auxiliary devices like a mouse. The touchpad is designed for those who adapt to deftly move their fingers. For some users, it simply annoys, because it often touches the palms during printing. As a result, you can reset the desired settings. Also, laptops today are often used instead of desktop computers. And they, as you know, do not need such a device. Next, it’s worth analyzing in more detail how to disable the touchpad on an Asus laptop.

Unprofessional shutdown methods

The easiest way for those who do not want to delve into the intricacies of the device and look for the appropriate instructions is to close the touchpad with any unnecessary plastic card and secure it with tape. Although, it will not close the device buttons, so they will continue to cause inconvenience during operation. The second way is to place the cursor on any place in the text and move the mouse away so that the arrow appears at the very base of the right corner. True, this does not provide a high level of reliability. After all, you can touch the mouse with your hand and move it to another place.

Standard methods

Most laptops have a dedicated button located near the touchpad. It has a crossed-out square or rectangle with a hand touching it. In addition, there is an official keyboard shortcut to disable the touch pad. In this article, we are talking about the Asus touchpad, for which the Fn + F9 combination is provided. It will need to be remembered. If the user does not know which "hot keys" to use, the following actions are performed:

1. Press "Start" and "Control Panel".
2. A transition is made to "Devices and Printers".
3. The "Mouse" tab opens, it contains the touchpad driver tab and checks the box where it says "Disconnect when connecting an external USB mouse."

In the case when nothing happens when pressing hot keys, as well as when using the "Mouse" tab, this means that the user does not have a touchpad driver installed. Asus devices have Elantech touch panels. In order to download the required driver, you should go to the official Asus portal and select the laptop model, as well as the touchpad and operating system.

professional ways

For advanced users who know what BIOS is, it is recommended to use a reliable option to disable the touchpad through this program. Manipulations are carried out in the Internal Pointing Device section. You must select the appropriate value, after which the question of how to disable the touchpad on Asus will never arise. You can also simply disconnect the cable from the touchpad, for this you have to remove the top panel. However, this method is good only for specialists who are familiar with the internal configuration of the device. In addition, before performing such an operation, you should make sure that the touchpad will never be needed. As a rule, the methods listed above are enough to deal with such an unpleasant problem on your own.

Question from user

Hello.

Help with touchpad. The fact is that I work on a laptop with a mouse, and in principle I don’t need a touchpad. When I type or do something at the keyboard, I often accidentally touch the touchpad with the surface of my palm and clicks work (for example, text can be highlighted, the cursor can jump, etc.).

How can I turn it off? On my laptop there is no special key on the keyboard, there is nothing in the mouse settings either. Sob sob...

Good day!

Yes, such a problem can be annoying. In this article I will try to give several working methods that will help solve your problem. (by the way, I suspect that you don't have touchpad drivers installed - that's why there is nothing in the mouse settings) ...

Ways to disable the touchpad

Method number 1: special function key

Many laptops have a special function key that allows you to quickly enable / disable the touchpad (there is a characteristic icon on it).

I will list the main brands of laptops and give the most common way to disable the touchpad:

  1. ASUS: usually this is a combination of Fn + F9 (or Fn + F7) buttons. See photo below;
  2. Acer : Fn+F7 (or in mouse properties);
  3. Dell: most often the sensor is disabled in the properties of the mouse;
  4. MSI : combination Fn+F3;
  5. Lenovo : Fn+F5 or Fn+F8
  6. HP: Please note that HP laptops use a double tap on the top left corner of the touchpad to disable it (see photo below).
  7. Sony: Fn + F1 combination (also laptops of this brand have their own Control Center, which also has a similar option);
  8. Samsung: in the vast majority of laptops Fn + F5;
  9. Toshiba: most often a combination of Fn + F5 (also laptops of this brand have an option to disable the sensor in the mouse properties).

If the function key has worked, usually, a notification always appears on the screen that the sensor has been disabled (see the screenshot below).

Method number 2: use the properties of the mouse

If there is no function key, then almost certainly the option to disable the touchpad should be in the mouse settings (or in special software, such as Sony, Dell).

Or, use the methods below.

Method number 3: for Windows 10 - use the settings for touch devices

If you have Windows 10 OS, then there is a special in the parameters. section responsible for the operation of the touch device.

To open these settings, go to START and click on the "Settings" button.

Next, go to the "Devices / Touchpad" section. Here you can disable it completely or partially (for example, disable the touchpad when connecting a mouse). In addition, you can adjust the cursor and touch speed. See screenshot below.

Device section / touch panel

Method number 4: disable the touchpad in the device manager

Many devices (including the touchpad) can be disabled through Device Manager.

The easiest way to open it (in Windows 7÷10): go to the control panel and add the word "Dispatcher" to the search bar. The search results will contain a link to launch it (see screenshot below).

Expand the Device Manager tab "Mice and other pointing devices" . One of the pointing devices is the touchpad. If it is difficult (impossible) to navigate by name, then turn off each of them one by one until you find the one you need.

Disable Device // Device Manager

Method number 5: manual version - we put a piece of cardboard / paper

Well, the last option is to cut a piece of thick paper (from cardboard, for example) to the size of the touchpad and seal this area with it (without glue! It is enough to carefully pick it up with tape). The method, although clumsy, will avoid accidental pressing when touching the palms.

Additions are welcome.

That's all, good luck everyone!

Good afternoon!

The touchpad is a touch device designed specifically for portable devices such as laptops, netbooks, etc. The touchpad responds to finger pressure on its surface. It is used as a replacement (alternative) to a conventional mouse. Any modern laptop is equipped with a touchpad, but, as it turned out, it is not easy to turn it off on any laptop ...

Why disable the touchpad?

For example, a regular mouse is connected to my laptop and it moves from one table to another - quite rarely. Therefore, I do not use the touchpad at all. Also, when working at the keyboard, you accidentally touch the surface of the touchpad - the cursor on the screen starts to tremble, select areas that do not need to be selected, etc. In this case, the best option would be to completely turn off the touchpad ...

In this article I want to consider several ways to disable the touchpad on a laptop. And so, let's get started...

1) Through function keys

Most laptop models have among the function keys (F1, F2, F3, etc.) the ability to disable the touchpad. It is usually marked with a small rectangle (sometimes, in addition to the rectangle, there may be a hand on the button).

Disabling the touchpad - acer aspire 5552g: press the FN + F7 buttons at the same time.

If you do not have a function button to disable the touchpad - go to the next option. If there is - and it does not work, there may be a couple of reasons for this:

1. Lack of drivers

You need to update the drivers (preferably from the official site). You can also use programs for auto-updating drivers:

2. Disable function buttons in BIOS

In some laptop models In BIOS, you can disable the function keys (for example, I observed this in Dell Inspirion laptops). To fix this, go to BIOS ( Bios entry buttons:), then go to the ADVANSED section and pay attention to the Function key item (change the corresponding setting if necessary).

Dell Notebook: Enabling Function Keys

3. Broken keyboard

It occurs quite rarely. Most often, some debris (crumbs) gets under the button and therefore it starts to work poorly. It is enough to press it harder and the key will work. In the event of a keyboard malfunction - usually it does not work completely ...

2) Shutdown through the button on the touchpad itself

Some laptops on the touchpad have a very small on / off button (usually located in the upper left corner). In this case - the task of disabling - is reduced to a simple click on it (without comments) ....

3) Through the mouse settings in the Windows 7/8 control panel

1. We go to the Windows control panel, then open the "Hardware and Sound" section, then go to the mouse settings. See screenshot below.

2. If you have a "native" driver for the touchpad installed (and not the default one that Windows often installs) - you should have advanced settings. In my case, it was necessary to open the Dell Touchpad tab, and go to advanced settings.

3. Then everything is simple: switch the checkbox to completely disabled and no longer use the touchpad. By the way, in my case, there was also an option to leave the touchpad on, but using the “Disable accidental palm presses” mode. To be honest, I didn’t check this mode, it seems to me that there will still be accidental clicks, so it’s better to turn it off completely.

What to do if there are no advanced settings?

2. Remove the driver completely from the system and disable auto-search and auto-installation of drivers using Windows tools. More on this later in the article.

4) Removing the driver from Windows 7/8 (result: the touchpad does not work)

Ambiguous way. Uninstalling a driver is quick and easy, but Windows 7 (8 and above) automatically produces and installs drivers for all hardware connected to a PC. This means that you need to turn off auto-installation of drivers so that Windows 7 does not look for anything in the Windows folder or on the Microsoft website.

1. How to disable auto-search and installation of drivers in Windows 7/8

1.1. Open the run tab and write the command " gpedit.msc"(Without quotes. In Windows 7 - the run tab in the Start menu, in Windows 8 you can open it with the Win + R button combination).

Windows 7 - gpedit.msc.

1.2. In chapter " Computer Configuration" sequentially expand the nodes " Administrative Templates"," System "and" Installing devices", and then select " Device Installation Restrictions«.

1.3. Now check the box next to the option "Enable", save the settings and restart the computer.

2. How to remove device and driver from Windows system

2.1. Go to the Windows Control Panel, then to the tab " Equipment and sound", and open " Device Manager«.

2.2. Next, simply find the "Mice and other pointing devices" section, right-click on the device you want to remove and select this function from the menu. Actually, after that, the device should not work for you, and Windows will not install the driver for it, without your direct instructions ...

Some users say that they simply cover the touchpad with some kind of plastic card (or calendar), or even a simple sheet of thick paper. In principle, it is also an option, although such paper would interfere with my work. In other words, the taste and color ...

At the moment, laptops have become so popular that many users buy them either as an addition to their computer or instead of a stationary device. And, of course, every laptop has a touchpad or touchpad - an input device designed to control the cursor and issue commands to an electronic device. In simple words, touching the touchpad mimics pressing mouse buttons or keyboard keys.

Let's look at the simplest way first.

On some laptop models, near the touchpad, there is a button that will help you turn it off and, if necessary, turn it back on. On HP laptops, you can try double tapping the top left corner of the touchpad, or holding the top left corner of the touchpad for 5 seconds.

If there is no such shutdown button in your laptop, then you can use the Fn function key in combination with the top row keys: F1, F2, ..., F12. Keyboard shortcuts will vary for different laptop models. I have ASUS, so to disable the touchpad, I press Fn + F9. In general, at the top we are looking for a key on which a crossed-out touchpad is depicted, and click on it.

The following are the various key combinations that will help disable the touchpad, depending on your laptop model:

  • Lenovo - Fn + F5 or Fn + F8;
  • ASUS - Fn + F9;
  • ASER - Fn + F7;
  • Toshiba - Fn + F5;
  • Samsung - Fn + F5;
  • Sony Vaio - Fn + F1.

Second way

If the keyboard shortcuts did not work, then you do not have the necessary drivers installed. In this case, disable the touchpad through the Control Panel. To do this, follow these steps:

"Start" - "Control Panel" - "Mouse" - tab "ELAN"- put a tick "Disable when connecting an external USB mouse"- click "OK".

Now we can work with the touchpad until a mouse is connected to the USB port. That is, when it is connected, the touch panel automatically turns off. Using this method, you yourself can choose what you want to work with: touchpad or mouse.

Another way is to disable the touchpad through the BIOS

To do this, you need to restart the laptop and go into the BIOS. In order to get into it, we restart the computer and start pressing the F2 or Del button hard immediately after the laptop screen lights up. We move into the BIOS using the arrows. We go to the tab "Advanced", select "Internal Pointing Device", press "Enter" and select "Disabled". Now you need to save - press F10. To exit the BIOS, press ESC.

I hope one of the methods described in this article suits you, and now you will never have a question - .
