Review of all iPad models: characteristics and comparison. Review of all iPad models: characteristics and comparison The difference between ipad mini 2 and 4

On September 9, Apple introduced the latest model of the miniature iPad mini 4 tablet. Moreover, Russia was among the countries in the first wave of sales. While attention was focused on the new iPad Pro and iPhone 6s, the new mini tablet received the least attention. Based on the experience of the iPad mini 3, few expected dramatic changes in version 4.

Comparison and review of two tablet models: iPad mini 3 and iPad mini 4

Throughout 2015, there were a lot of rumors on the World Wide Web that Apple was ready to abandon handhelds altogether. The arguments cited were the release of the iPhone 6s Plus phablet, which, with a screen size of 5.5 inches, is almost similar in size to a tablet. And even greater simplification would finally push buyers towards the iPad, which is more functional, or towards the regular versions of the iPad, which are larger.

All this led to the fact that even the official presentation of the product was probably the shortest in history. At first glance, it’s clear why, because there’s really nothing innovative in the new device. Does it differ in anything fundamental from its predecessor or is everything as insignificant as in the case of the iPad mini 2 and 3? To figure it out, let's compare the iPad mini 3 and 4. After reading this material, you can understand whether it's worth upgrading your third-generation handheld or whether you can continue to use it further. And if you're looking for your first Apple device, this will help you decide whether it's worth significantly overpaying for the new product.

At first glance, it seems that there are no differences. But once you pick it up, differences begin to appear. The fourth generation tablet is 1.5 millimeters thinner and almost 50 grams lighter. Anyone who has not used a similar third-generation device, of course, will not notice anything, but an experienced user will feel the difference: the thickness of the iPad mini 4 is only 6.1 mm (the predecessor has 7.5 mm), weight – 298 (without the cellular module) /304 g (with cellular module) versus 331/341 g for the third version.

The second external difference is the disappearance of the mute button. On the iPad mini 3 this button was present, but on the 4 it is no longer there. The third difference is that the fourth version is slightly higher than the third. Its dimensions are 203 × 135 mm, while its predecessor is 200 × 134 mm. Because of these extra 3 millimeters, it is impossible to use the case from the previous tablet. The iPad 4 simply doesn't fit in it. And fourthly, the design of the stereo speaker holes has changed. As you can see, there are few external differences, and they are not too significant.

Screen

The technical characteristics of both screens are completely identical: IPS matrix, 7.9″ diagonal, resolution 2048×1536 pixels, pixel density 326 ppi. But, comparing them with each other, you can easily see the difference. Although no technical innovations were introduced, the iPad mini 4 has a much brighter, richer, more contrasting picture, and the colors are more natural. This is all thanks to the fact that Apple got rid of the air layer between the matrix and the glass, and also improved the anti-reflective coating and color gamut. But such an improvement will lead to a significant increase in the cost of repairs.

Hardware and memory capacity

On the World Wide Web you can find a huge number of negative reviews from owners of the iPad mini 3, complaining about the brakes when operating the device with iOS 9. The iPad mini 4 does not have such problems, all thanks to the fact that the new product has a new processor - a 64-bit Apple A8 with two cores, 1.5 GHz, running on the Typhoon architecture, based on a 20-nanometer ARMv8-A chipset in conjunction with an M8 coprocessor. According to Apple, it is almost 100% more efficient in using battery resources and is up to a third more productive.

The tablet works just fine, there are no freezes, everything turns on and loads instantly. Not the least of this improvement is the doubled amount of RAM - now it is 2 gigabytes. By the way, the size of the built-in flash memory has not changed - models with built-in memory of 16, 64 and 128 GB are still available. The video processor has also been improved - the fourth generation iPad mini now has the PowerVR GX6450, while the mini 3 was equipped with the PowerVR G6430.

All updated equipment has significantly improved performance indicators. Now the iPad mini 4 can be compared with its second-generation older brother.

Camera

While the camera in the iPad mini 3 was no different even from the model before last year, the iPad mini 4 took a step forward. The main camera of the new product has an 8-megapixel matrix with an ƒ/2.4 aperture, autofocus, a five-element lens, a light sensor and the ability to record video in Full HD quality. Despite the improved resolution, the quality is still poor, but, you see, few people buy a tablet for photography.

The resolution of 1.2 megapixels is no different from its predecessor. It can record video at 720p resolution and recognize faces. You can’t take a high-quality selfie with it, but it’s quite suitable for video calls over the Internet.

Wireless networks and sensors

Both models are available in two versions - only with Wi-Fi, as well as with Wi-Fi + 3G/4G. Each of them supports most Wi-Fi standards and can operate in two frequency bands: 2.4 and 5 GHz. iPad mini 4 supports the high-speed standard 802.11ac, Bluetooth version 4.2 (in iPad Mini 3 - 4.0). Models with a cellular communication module work equally well in GSM/EDGE, UMTS/HSDPA, CDMA/EV-DO, LTE networks. Both devices have GPS/A-GPS, GLONASS, compass, Touch ID fingerprint sensor, three-axis gyroscope, ambient light sensor, accelerometer, and in iPad mini 4 there is also a barometer.

operating system

Initially, iOS 8.1 was installed on the third-generation handheld, and on the fourth-generation model - . Today, both devices can be updated to the latest iOS 9.2, which was released on December 8, 2015.

Since the iPad mini 4 was originally created for the new version of the OS, it supports all its features, such as Split View, Slide Over multitasking and Picture in Picture. Although the predecessor will also receive all these functions, as we mentioned at the beginning of the article, there may be slowdowns in the interface.

Battery

The most interesting thing is that the battery capacity of the iPad mini 4 has decreased significantly - 5124 mAh versus 6471 mAh. Still, you can’t install a thicker battery in such a thin case. But at the same time, the indicators did not deteriorate at all. And all because of the better energy efficiency of the new platform.

The following tests were carried out:

  • watching online YouTube videos at 720p resolution - about 11 hours 20 minutes (about 10 hours 30 minutes on mini 3);
  • Epic Citadel (test game scene) - 6 hours 10 minutes (about 5 hours 30 minutes for its predecessor);
  • An hour of playing Asphalt 8 - 16% discharge (17% for a competitor).

As you can see, the performance is even slightly better. And at the same time more power.

conclusions

After our comparison, it is obvious that the difference between the iPad mini 3 and iPad mini 4 is greater than between the iPad mini 2 and iPad mini 3. This is a better screen, more powerful hardware, Wi-Fi 802.11ac standard, and Bluetooth 4.2 version instead of 4.0. Is it advisable to buy a newer model if you are using the previous, third one? The starting price for the minimum configuration of both devices ($399) makes the choice even more difficult.

The technical description of the two gadgets is actually very similar. However, both tablets have significant differences that will help select the iPad Air 2 or iPad mini 4 for certain categories of users. Since the dimensions of mobile devices differ markedly, it is logical to assume that one is more convenient to play games, work with text files, and search the World Wide Web. The second tablet is ideal for users who prefer to carry it with them always.

Basically, mini-format gadgets are very convenient for reading books on public transport, quickly checking email, taking unplanned amateur photographs, and listening to music at any appropriate moment. We believe that both tablets occupy a worthy place in the market and are not competitors, which explains the high interest in them among connoisseurs of Apple mobile technology. The review will primarily be interesting and useful for those who want to see how different the technical parameters of the two sensational iPad models, released almost one year apart, are. The comparison will also help users who are planning to buy a brand new tablet with a high-quality design and flagship parameters in the near future make the right choice.

Comparison and review of two tablet models: iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4

The packaging in which the gadgets are supplied is standard for Apple. It is a white box, made in a very laconic style, which has become the hallmark of the company. iPad mini 4 and iPad Air 2 only include the iPad Air 2 cable and portable charger. A minor drawback is the lack of headphones.

The most noticeable differences that will catch the eye of even the most inexperienced user are the dimensions of tablet computers. If the iPad Air 2 has dimensions of 240 x 169.5 x 6.1 mm, then the iPad mini 4 has dimensions of 203.2 x 134.8 x 6.1 mm. The weight of tablet computers also differs, which for the iPad Air 2 is 437 grams, while the iPad mini 4 weighs only 299 grams. In this case we are talking about a configuration without 4G. The improved package with 4G weighs only 5 (in the mini line) and 7 grams (in the Air line) more, which does not represent a significant difference.

Both devices are unusually thin, which is perhaps the reason for frequent comparisons between tablets and a pencil. At the same time, one gets the impression that the gadgets are quite fragile - and this is not surprising, given their lightness and thickness. At the same time, the build quality remains at the highest technological level. The color scheme of the compared models is the same. Users have the option to choose between gold, silver and space gray. Whether three color schemes are enough is up to users to decide.

The location of the connectors and buttons of the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4 can be seen in the photo. The Home button, which has a built-in fingerprint sensor, a standard headphone jack, an on/off button, and a volume control are placed identically in the two gadgets.

Screen

Both tablets are equipped with a Retina display based on an IPS matrix. This also ensures that the human eye cannot perceive that the picture consists of pixels. The diagonal of the iPad Air 2 is 9.7 inches. Resolution - 2048 x 1536 pixels. This means that their density is 264 pixels. The developers have endowed the iPad mini with a 7.9-inch display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536. The density is 326 pixels per inch.

Apart from the larger ppi, the mini line gadget has virtually no differences. The aspect ratio is already familiar to Apple 4:3. An oleophobic coating that protects the surface of the tablet from fingerprints, an anti-reflective coating that ensures comfortable working in bright light conditions - all the characteristics are shared by the compared models.

Among the features, it can also be noted that in the 2014 Air line of tablet computers, developers used lamination technology for the first time, which made it possible to eliminate the space between the glass and the display. The effect was as if the picture was simply lying on the surface of the device. Excellent viewing angles and color rendition are demonstrated by the compared new product of 2015. Among the shortcomings is the lack of 3D Touch technology in both displays, which is already used in Apple phones.

Camera

Both tablets have two cameras - front and rear. At first glance, the differences cannot be identified - on both devices it is 1.2 megapixels, and the rear one is 8 megapixels. In terms of technical parameters, they do not differ from the iPhone 5s. The best quality images are obtained in daylight conditions. The advantage is the presence of a light sensor, which is located on the rear panel. It helps to achieve excellent photo quality for a tablet. All owners of the compared device models have the ability to shoot video in HD 1080p quality.

Specifications and performance

The processor is the heart of any tablet. iPad Air 2 is powered by PowerVR G6650 graphics and a triple-core A8X processor clocked at 1.5 GHz. In this case, the amount of RAM is 2 GB. Thanks to these characteristics, high operating speed is achieved, which is 1.4 times higher than the A7 processor, which is equipped with the first generation iPad Air and iPad mini 2. Experts praise the gadget’s performance. Thanks to a powerful processor, software creators have the opportunity to release products that are more demanding on the hardware of modern mobile devices.

The iPad mini 4 is powered by a dual-core A8 processor clocked at 1.5 GHz. The graphics are handled by a quad-core PowerVR GX6450 chip. The amount of RAM, as in the compared model, is 2 GB. These parameters allow you to obtain the following benchmark results: in single-core and multi-core modes, the device scored 1690 and 3111 points, respectively. Compared to the previous generation A7 processor, the A8 is 1.3 times faster. It is worth noting that the characteristics described above allow you to open several simultaneously in the background on both tablets.

The built-in memory capacity of the compared models is 16, 64 or 128 GB. A device with 16 GB will not always be able to reveal all the capabilities of the hardware of gadgets. But, unfortunately, Apple is in no hurry to release gadgets with a minimum memory capacity of 32 GB, despite the huge number of heavyweight applications.

Battery life

The battery capacity of the iPad Air 2 is 7340 mAh, and the iPad mini 4 is 5124 mAh. The first is capable of working without interruption for up to 9 hours, and the second for up to 8 hours, despite the seemingly small battery capacity. At the same time, users have the opportunity to play games, watch videos, run applications in the background, and search the World Wide Web. It is worth noting that the designers of the iPad mini 4 were forced to equip the tablet with a low-capacity battery in order to achieve an excellent design and a case thickness of 6.1 millimeters.

Conclusions and Conclusions

Of course, the two devices being compared have many similarities and differences. The iPad Air 2 is slightly more powerful and has better battery life. At the same time, the new 2015 iPad mini 4 is its excellent analogue, which is always convenient to carry with you. Tablets will not compete with each other, since everyone chooses for themselves the optimal combination of price, performance, autonomy and mobility. It is advisable to note that owners of two gadgets will be able to appreciate the multimedia capabilities, wonderful design, ergonomic properties and high-level build quality. Among the disadvantages, as always, are only 16 GB of memory in the basic models and the impossibility of increasing it. But, as practice has shown, Apple fans are ready to put up with such a closed company.

I remember very well the birth of the compact Android tablet segment: the first Galaxy Tab, HTC Flyer and a bunch of Chinese with terrible screens and build. And yet, the potential buyer had no choice, because Steve Jobs didn’t even want to look in the direction of compact tablets. After the release of the first iPad with a Retina display, I could only once again lament the lack of a compact version with the same wonderful display. But when Apple finally decided to release the first iPad mini, my disappointment knew no bounds, because the company installed a display with a resolution of 1024x768 pixels! Of course, the situation was corrected next year and I still consider the iPad mini 2 to be one of the most successful models. The third generation, in my opinion, is passable; it could easily be called the iPad mini 2s, but the latest iPad mini 4 is miraculously good. But the Android tablet market also did not stand still: screen resolutions, battery life, speed and stability of firmware grew, in general, now the choice between an Android tablet and iOS is no longer as obvious as it was two or three years ago. It will be all the more interesting to compare the two best compact tablets of the end of 2015.

Appearance, body materials

Let's start with the design of the iPad mini 4. The user has three different body colors available to the user: silver, dark gray and gold, I personally recommend the silver model to everyone, it reminds me of the company's MacBooks and looks the best. However, lovers of traditional strictly black will appreciate the dark gray case. You can’t say much about the design of tablets in general; most of them have rounded edges, most of the front side is occupied by the display, so manufacturers only have the back cover to “play with appearance”. Apple traditionally uses aluminum for its manufacture: it’s practical and looks cool, and it’s not for nothing that some companies copy this approach.

The body of the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 is made of matte plastic with a soft-touch coating. Unlike most devices that use similar plastic, the body of the S2 8.0 does not get dirty as much, and fingerprints themselves are less noticeable. I had a black model in my hands; it has a calm design without any pretentious elements, which, in my opinion, is a plus.

In terms of appearance, the iPad mini has a slight advantage, and aluminum is still more practical than plastic with a soft-touch coating, but this does not mean that the Tab S2 is significantly worse in materials or design.

Sound

Both devices are equipped with high-quality stereo speakers with excellent volume headroom. In my opinion, the iPad mini 4 puts more emphasis on the performer’s voice, while the Tab S2 puts more emphasis on the instrumental part.

Control elements

Now I won’t look at the power buttons and volume rockers, but will focus only on the central button under the screen (and the two touch buttons next to it in the Tab S2). On both tablets, fingerprint scanners are integrated into the central button, operating at +/- the same speed. A small advantage of the iPad mini scanner is its integration into the system and the ability to access it with third-party applications, this is very convenient for the same 1Password, unfortunately, this control has not yet been unified in Android.

In the Galaxy Tab S2, two touch buttons are located on either side of the central key: “recent applications” and “back”. This is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, abandoning on-screen buttons in favor of touch buttons allows you to increase the usable screen area, and on the other hand, when using the tablet in a horizontal orientation, you will touch the touch buttons with your thumb, and this is a big disadvantage that Samsung does not pay attention to year after year attention.

In the iPad mini 4, the absence of touch keys allows you to hold it in any orientation without any problems; the chance of accidentally pressing a physical button is much lower than a touch button.

Dimensions

As you can see from the plate above, in terms of size and weight we have a clear leader - the Galaxy Tab S2, the tablet is a little thinner and lighter. In everyday use, the difference is almost unnoticeable, but if you take both tablets in your hands, you immediately feel that the S2 is, albeit a little, lighter.

Screen

Before we get into the display comparison, I would like to point out to you, dear readers, that these are two tablets with the best screens on the market, so when I say one of them wins/loses in any respect, It is important to understand that we are talking about a 5-10% loss, and not a twofold difference. For comparison, I used Adaptive mode on the Tab S2.

SuperAMOLED matrices are usually criticized for poor white color reproduction, well, that’s where we’ll start our comparison. I was surprised to find that the Tab S2's display renders even white colors better than the iPad mini 4. A direct comparison shows that the mini 4's screen is a little yellow and not as bright.

When displaying black, the iPad mini 4 shows very good results for an IPS matrix, but with this color the advantage is traditionally on the side of SuperAMOLED. If you open a completely black picture, you get the feeling that the display is completely turned off, while on the mini 4 the image looks like a dark, dark gray screen.

Galaxy Tab S2 on the left, iPad mini 4 on the right

If we talk about the color image, then the difference when comparing identical photos was minimal, but still the advantage is also on the side of the Tab S2, the colors on it look a little brighter, a little richer.

Galaxy Tab S2 on the left, iPad mini 4 on the right

The viewing angles of both tablets are close to the maximum, and the Tab S2 also wins in terms of brightness: both the maximum and minimum brightness are adjustable over a larger range.

Galaxy Tab S2 on the left, iPad mini 4 on the right

Another small advantage of the screen in the S2 over the mini 4 is a separate reading mode, which can be turned on in the settings or directly from the notification line.

Theoretically, the iPad mini 4's screen should have won when comparing small text, due to the PenTile in SuperAMOLED matrices, but even with very small font, I could not see the characteristic red halos on the S2.

In defense of the mini 4, I will say that although the screen in it is inferior in all respects to the S2, it is still very good, and if it were not for a direct comparison, I would not even notice that this display is bad in any way .

operating system

I could compare every little thing in Android 5.1 with TouchWiz installed and iOS 9.2, but I won’t do this, since it’s unlikely to help you make a choice, so I’ll tell you about my general impressions.

In my opinion, Android is suitable for more advanced users who understand what they want from a tablet and value its ability to customize and replace standard applications. I will not deny that the capabilities of working with the file system in Android are much higher than in iOS. Plus, now there are many good applications specifically for Android tablets and the difference between it and iOS is no longer so noticeable.

On the other hand, iPad mini 4 and iOS 9.x are a solution for unassuming users who will work with the tablet out of the box and are unlikely to notice any restrictions from Apple.

It is also worth taking into account your previous user experience; of course, it will be easier for an iPhone owner to get used to an iPad, and an Android user to get used to a Galaxy Tab S2.

Performance

There are three parameters by which I evaluate the performance of devices: the speed of desktops and settings menus; browser speed and work with the most productive games.

I specifically simultaneously flipped through the desktops on the devices, launched various pages in the browser and played the most powerful games on them. And it just so happens that we have parity on all three devices. However, there is one “but”, at the moment there are more beautiful and powerful toys for iOS, for now.

Autonomous operation

The battery capacity of the Galaxy Tab S2 is 4000 mAh, iPad mini 4 - 5124 mAh. The difference of 25% in capacity is clearly visible during everyday use: for example, the Tab S2 discharges in about two to three days during everyday use (one and a half hours of active screen per day at automatic brightness), and the iPad mini 4 under the same conditions - in three. four days. But everything changes when we compare the operating time in video mode, here the Tab S2 lasted 12 hours versus 7 hours for the iPad mini 4.

Camera

I believe that tablets are filmed much less frequently than smartphones, but when traveling I increasingly see tourists with iPads or the same Galaxy Tab, so I asked Roman Belykh to give a short comment on the quality of filming

The quality of the photos is approximately the same if we are talking about detail. The main difference is noise. Due to its high-aperture optics (F1.9 aperture), the Galaxy Tab S2 produces a relatively clear image compared to the iPad mini 4 (F2.4 aperture). The viewing angle is wider in the Samsung camera. In general, for the Galaxy Tab S2 tablet the module and optics are very good, and the iPad mini shoots at the level of the iPhone 4.

iPad mini 4 Galaxy Tab S2
Yes, version 4.0 LE, all popular profiles are supported, incl. A2DP GPS Cold start takes about five seconds Mobile data GSM/3G/LTE, voice calls GSM/3G/LTE USB On-The-Go Eat No

As you can see, the Galaxy Tab S2 has a more recent version of Bluetooth, USB OTG support, and of course the presence of voice calls. You can argue for a long time about the need or unnecessaryness of phone calls from a tablet, but the fact remains: with the Tab S2 you can call if something happens, but with the iPad mini 4 you can’t.

Also, just for fun, I compared the speed of both tablets in LTE mode, using the same SIM card, measurements were taken from the same place.

Conclusion

First, let's look at the prices of the tablets: The iPad mini 4 is sold in six different variants: 16, 64 and 128 GB with LTE and Wi-Fi Only:

  • 16 GB Wi-Fi - 33,000 rubles
  • 64 GB Wi-Fi - 41,000 rubles
  • 128 GB Wi-Fi - 49,000 rubles
  • 16 GB Wi-Fi+LTE - 43,000 rubles
  • 64 GB Wi-Fi+ LTE - 51,000 rubles
  • 128 GB Wi-Fi+LTE - 59,000 rubles

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 has only two versions:

  • 32 GB Wi-Fi - 32,000 rubles
  • 32 GB Wi-Fi+LTE - 36,000 rubles

First of all, I would like to note that we have two excellent tablets; personally, I could easily use any of them as my main one without any problems. Therefore, some specifics play a role, for example, the Apple iPad mini 4 has a more interesting design, there are more productive toys for it, the aluminum case can also be an advantage for someone. The Tab S2 has a slightly better display, significantly longer battery life in video mode, has support for voice calls and is cheaper with more memory, plus let's not forget about the slot for a microSD card, because now there are already 200 GB cards.

I admit honestly, I am a loyal user of Apple technology, but if in direct comparison with the Tab S2 the tablets are +/- similar, then you expect a similar pricing policy, but in reality we see that the 64 GB version of the iPad with Wi-Fi costs 9000 more 32 GB version S2, and for the modification with LTE you will have to overpay 15,000 rubles. Unfortunately, the restrictive pricing policy makes Apple technology less attractive to the mass user; it remains the lot of wealthy buyers who love the company's products, but this is a much smaller niche of consumers. Of course, the Tab S2 is also more expensive than last year’s generation, but the increase in the price tag in the case of this model is not so radical, and the high prices for the iPad make this model one of the best among compact tablets for reasonable money.

But he didn’t give him even a minute of his time. Nevertheless, there is interest in this device. The iPad mini line is popular because size matters. Buyers want to know how the iPad mini 4 differs from the iPad mini 3. That's what we'll talk about. Colleagues from iDB studied in detail all the available information in order to tell as much as possible about the new product.

Size and weight

iPad mini 3 was practically no different from its predecessor; it only added a fingerprint scanner. The tablet is also available in a new color. There are significantly more changes in iPad mini 4, and we'll start with the visual ones. iPad mini 4 is more than 30 grams lighter than its predecessor and 1.4 mm thinner.

iPad mini 3 parameters:

  • Height: 200 mm
  • Width: 134.7 mm
  • Thickness: 7.5 mm
  • Weight (Wi-Fi): 331 g
  • Weight (Wi-Fi + Cellular): 341 g

iPad mini 4 parameters:

  • Height: 203.2 mm
  • Width: 134.8 mm
  • Thickness: 6.1 mm
  • Weight (Wi-Fi): 298.8 g
  • Weight (Wi-Fi + Cellular): 304 g

New display

The iPad mini 4 display is different from those used in all previous generations. In previous models, displays consisted of three separate components. In the iPad mini 4, they are combined into one, and this makes the screen more contrasty and clear. The image will be more realistic and closer to your eyes, without being separated by additional layers of the display. The special coating will also eliminate glare; it should be reduced by 56% compared to the previous generation iPad mini.

Performance

Phil Schiller said the new iPad mini 4 takes the capabilities of the iPad Air 2 and squeezes them into its small body. Alas, this is not entirely true, and in terms of performance it is still slightly worse. The iPad Air 2 is powered by an improved A8X chip, while the iPad mini 4 has the A8 chip found in the iPhone 6. However, it should still be 60% faster in graphics processing than the first-generation iPad Air.

Working with wireless networks

The iPad mini 4 isn't just faster in terms of performance. It supports 802.11an Wi-Fi, which should be 3 times faster than 802.11ac supported by the previous generation. The theoretical throughput is 866 Mbps. Apart from this, the tablet supports the latest Bluetooth 4.2 and 20 LTE bands, offering speed increases of up to 50%. Bluetooth 4.2 offers 2.5 times faster speeds and improved energy efficiency.

Battery

The iPad mini 4 has a smaller battery compared to the previous generation. A thin body requires sacrifice. Nevertheless, Apple, as always, promises the same 10 hours of continuous operation.

Camera

The front camera of the iPad mini 4 is the same 1.2 megapixels with the ability to record HD video. However, the new f/2.2 aperture allows it to capture 81% more light, allowing it to perform better in low light. Improvements have also been made to the burst mode.

The main camera of the device is now 8-megapixel. The iPad mini 3 used a 5-megapixel camera. The new hardware will improve the performance of facial recognition technology. Otherwise, the functions of the Camera application have not changed.

Multi-window support

With the arrival of iOS 9, this feature should be available for the iPad Air 2, and now for the iPad mini 4. Owners of this compact tablet will be able to appreciate both the multi-window and picture-in-picture mode.

RAM capacity

On the one hand, the hardware of the iPad mini 4 is weaker than that on which the iPad Air 2 runs. The latest generation of Air uses 2 gigabytes of RAM, and it is not certain that the iPad mini 4 received the same amount. On the other hand, the fact that the iPad mini 4 supports multi-windows may indicate that 2 gigabytes are still hidden in its compact body.

Accessories

If you're planning on buying an iPad mini 4 to replace an older member of the line, you might want to know that the cases from your older devices won't work for it. At least if you use original Apple cases.

iPad mini 4 displaced iPad mini 3 from display cases

No, the iPad mini 3 has not become cheaper, they simply stopped selling it. It has become cheaper, and the iPad mini 4 is sold at the same price as the first generation iPad Air. Despite the fact that this model received virtually no attention during the presentation. It has many more changes over its predecessor than the iPad mini 3 was able to offer last year.

Based on materials from iDownloadBlog
