ASUS currently sells more motherboards than any other company. However, this number also includes rebranded products.

ASUS also produces various components for products of other corporations, including Sony (PlayStation 2), Apple Inc. (iPod, iPod Shuffle, MacBook), Alienware, Falcon Northwest, Palm, Inc., HP, and many other equipment manufacturers use ASUS motherboards in their systems (since 2008, all of the above products are manufactured at the production facilities of Pegatron Corporation).

Until 2014, ASUS occupied third place in the ranking of tablet manufacturers on the Russian market. However, in mid-2014, it lost it to the dynamically developing Lenovo.

Company history

The fame of Asus as a global manufacturer of high-quality laptops is beyond doubt. However, compared to other electronic companies, Asus is still very young; it appeared on the high-end computer technology market quite recently - in 1989 on the island of Taiwan. The company was founded in 1989 by four former Acer engineers: TH Tung, Ted Hsu, Wayne Hsieh, MT Liao.

The path to success was not easy, because at that time Taiwanese companies did not have access to the world market.
The company's initial goal was to produce chipsets. However, due to a lack of capacity and a special testing base, the company was forced to start producing motherboards.
After creating its own motherboard, the company submitted it to Intel's testing lab. Intel assessed the quality of the motherboard and signed a long-term agreement with Asus. Thus, Asus received recognition and access to the global market.
The company decided not to stop there and expanded the list of products. Optical drives and video cards were added to the list of manufactured products, and Hewlett-Packard was added to the list of strategic partners.
In the modern market community, Asus Corporation is known as a supplier of 3C class solutions (computers, communications, consumer electronics). In this case, communications means the production of ISDL equipment and DSL modems. In this market sector, Asus today occupies one of the leading positions in the world. This was achieved over the years and through the hard work of all employees of the Taiwanese company. The so-called consumer electronics include mobile phones, gadgets, and Asus laptops.
Over time, the range of products is expanding. Optical drives and video cards with the Asus logo on the case appear. Having concluded a successful contract with the world famous company Hewlett-Packard, the company begins to build servers. In 2001, Asus began producing servers only under its own name. In 2000 the world saw and Asus laptops.
Asus introduces its own proprietary technologies into its products:
Asus POST Reporter - technology created to inform the user about malfunctions by voice;
Asus EZ Flash - technology created for easy BIOS updating. The update occurs directly from its menu;
Asus Q-Fan - technology for controlling system cooling using thermal sensors, intelligently regulating the rotation speed of coolers;
Asus Color Shine - liquid crystal displays with “glass” properties and an anti-glare effect for the clearest picture;
Asus Splendid Video Enhancement - used in video playback and game graphics, improving the depth and intensity of colors in real time.

February 4, 2009 - An alliance between Garmin and ASUS was created to jointly develop mobile phones focused on LBS services.

In 2010, ASUSTeK Computer is gradually reducing its orders from a subsidiary of Pegatron, these plans correspond to the general development trend of the company to reduce Asustek's dependence on Pegatron Technology: in particular, we are talking about motherboards and graphics subsystems, the production of which can be transferred to Elitegroup Computer Systems ( English) (ECS). In the second half of 2010, Asustek will also begin placing orders with Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) and Quanta Computer factories.

Since January 1, 2008, ASUSTeK has been producing products only under its own brand. The entire ODM business was transferred entirely to newly opened subsidiaries: Pegatron Corporation and Unihan Corporation.

ASUSTeK focuses on the production of products under its own brand - motherboards, laptops, smartphones, servers and communications equipment, as well as multimedia devices and consumer electronics. Pegatron is engaged in the production of computer cases and other devices, Unihan was created for the contract production of computer components.

In 2010, ASUSTeK Computer is gradually reducing its orders from its subsidiary Pegatron, these plans are in line with the general development trend of the company to reduce Asustek's dependence on Pegatron Technology: in particular, we are talking about motherboards and graphics subsystems, the production of which can be transferred to Elitegroup Computer Systems.

In 2011, ASUS launched a tablet laptop on the market, thereby competing with Apple's iPad. The uniqueness of the ASUS tablet is that the “tablet” screen can work either stand-alone or together with a standard keyboard, thereby turning the gadget into a familiar laptop.

On December 21, 2016, the multifunctional home robot Zenbo, developed and produced by the company, was presented to the public in Taipei. The company announced that sales in Taiwan will begin on January 1, 2017.

ASUS Chairman Johnny Shih (Shi Chongtang) said at the event that developers and partners from various industries in Taiwan - including education, transportation, e-commerce, entertainment and professional cleaning - have collaborated with ASUS to expand areas using Zenbo with specific applications and features.

A collaboration with the National Police Agency of Taiwan (NPA) resulted in the development of an app for Zenbo that allows families to contact their local police station in an emergency and speak with an officer using the built-in video calling feature. NBO CEO Chen Guoen joined Johnny Shi on stage to demonstrate the app's capabilities.

The versatility of the Zenbo robot helps ensure the well-being of older family members. Zenbo monitors the home for emergencies such as falls and responds immediately by notifying listed close relatives via their smartphones.

On November 3, 2017, Asus announced the release of its first smartphone with an 18:9 display - Pegasus 4S.

Brand history

Initially, the Taiwanese company was named after the mythological winged horse - “Pegasus”. But then the entrepreneurs decided to cut off the first three letters from the name so that in all directories their company would be among the first - with an “a.” Currently, the full name of the company is “AsusTeK Computers Incorporated.” This is not surprising: what is it like in the modern market world without the prefix “Incorporated”?
There is another version of the appearance of the name of this brand.

In Chinese, ASUS sounds like hua shooo. The first word means “China” or “Chinese”, and the second means “big”, so the name eventually coined by the company’s founders can be translated as “Greater China”. But, one way or another, the company founded by TH Tung, Ted Hsu, Wayne Hsieh and MT Liao soared high, like Pegasus, became not just big, but huge, and has been occupying the first place in the ratings of leaders in the global computer industry for several years now.

However, ASUSTek would not have reached its current heights if not for the lucky acquisition of Chen Shi, or Johnny Shi, as he is better known in the business world. It was with the arrival of this talented manager in the mid-1990s that the most successful stage in the company's development began.

Johnny Shih is one of the legendary figures in Taiwan. He joined ASUSTek in 1994 as CEO and soon became chairman of the company.
As Shi recalls, the business owners immediately set him a serious task - to stand on par with the leaders in the production sector of not only motherboards, but also personal computers. It would seem that in an ultra-competitive market it was difficult to stand out from the crowd by offering consumers an original idea. But Johnny Shih found a solution that, according to him, formed the basis of the company's future philosophy and led ASUSTek to victory.

According to the strategy of the new head of ASUSTek, she first had to concentrate on two components of the business: advanced technology and high quality products. And then it was planned to add speed of production and speed of service to these components. The company even developed its own “winning formula”, which was equal to the price of marketing (quality multiplied by speed, innovation and service) divided by cost.

“We realized that the only way to get to the top was by offering an outstanding product,” says Johnny Shea. “I tried to convey to the employees that we can only become the best enterprise in the world if we are able to exceed our own capabilities. I am sure that working to the limit of one’s own capabilities is the secret of our today’s success.”

Just three years after Shi took over, the company’s sales volume increased 12 times and profits increased by 20 times.

Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs released a study on November 29, 2016, listing the top twenty most valuable international brands from Taiwan in 2016 by market value. The ASUS brand was recognized as the most valuable Taiwanese brand for the fourth year in a row.

Two ASUS laptops were selected for the astronauts by R&K, which is the main supplier of computers and electronics to the MIR orbital station. Both laptops performed flawlessly throughout the entire 600-day period.

According to Sergei Andreev, a Russian cosmonaut, ASUS laptops have never overheated, as happens with laptops operating in difficult temperature conditions. The fact is that heat flows in space and on Earth are different. And only a laptop with the best cooling system can withstand prolonged work in such conditions.

Another amazing story - ASUS laptops have also stood the test under operating conditions and at the lowest temperatures. On December 16, 2003, two famous climbers Shi Wang and Jin Li conquered the highest peak of Antarctica - Vinson Peak, whose height is 4897 m, and the ambient temperature drops to - 100 degrees. Fahrenheit (approx. 73.3 degrees Celsius). Both climbers had ASUS S200N laptops with them, which worked reliably throughout the trip, despite truly extremely harsh weather conditions.

For 10 years in a row, Asus has been included in the list of the most successful IT companies InfoTech 100, published by the weekly Business Week.

On December 21, 2016, the multifunctional home robot Zenbo, developed and produced by the company, was presented to the public in Taipei.

At the press conference, 10 Zenbo robots sang and danced to create a festive New Year's atmosphere for the audience, and also demonstrated their various functions, such as "caring au pair", "security guard", "kitchen helper" and "family photographer". .

The Taiwanese company presented its new line on the Russian market

Recently, the Taiwanese company Asus introduced its new line of smartphones called Zenfone to the Russian market. The event was held in Moscow at the RIA Novosti press center with great fanfare: for the first time, even the head of Asus, Jonney Shih, visited the capital for this occasion. He personally presented the new smartphones to the large audience, talking in detail about all the main characteristics of the new devices. According to him, the Russian market has always been one of the highest priorities for the company, so it is not surprising that the owner of the company flew to Russia to personally introduce Asus Zenfone.

These smartphones were introduced to the Asian market earlier. The first countries to see them were Taiwan, China, and the countries of Southeast Asia. According to Angela Hsu, head of the mobile systems business group at Asus in Russia, the CIS and the Baltics, who was also present at the event, the product aroused great interest among users, as evidenced by sales results. Thus, in Taiwan, 30 thousand devices were sold within three hours after pre-orders were activated. The company currently has a 20% share of the smartphone market in the country, and Asus plans to become the market leader in Taiwan by the end of July. “We are proud to introduce our new line of Asus Zenfone smartphones, which are the embodiment of simplicity and reliability, beauty of lines and perfection of design,” said Angela Xu. - In Zenfone, we have embodied all our experience in developing digital devices, presenting the perfect balance between hardware and software. The innovative ZenUI interface makes it easy to communicate, share photos or data, organize your time and manage your smartphone. And thanks to a wide range of bright colors and screen sizes (from 4 to 6 inches), each user can choose exactly the smartphone that meets his requirements and expectations.”

So what are the new smartphones so loudly praised by the Taiwanese? First of all, it is worth noting the design of the new devices. It cannot be said that he is revolutionary, although without any stretch of the imagination he can be considered attractive. The case materials are not premium (smartphones are made of plastic), but neat shapes and a variety of colors allowed Asus Zenfone to receive the prestigious Red Dot Design Award 2014, which is one of the most significant design awards in the world. Every year, the Red Dot Design Award recognizes the best designers and manufacturing companies for special achievements in the design of consumer goods, and the new line of smartphones from the Taiwanese company received such an award.

The Zenfone line of smartphones includes three models, differing primarily in screen sizes and, accordingly, dimensions. In accordance with the screen diagonal size from 4 to 6 inches, the devices got their names: Zenfone 4, Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 6. All screens are protected by scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass 3, which is not bad, but none of them boast high resolution , unfortunately, it cannot. Thus, the screen resolution of the youngest model is 800x480 pixels, and the screens of the two remaining devices have a resolution of 1280x720 pixels. Accordingly, the pixel density of Zenfone displays is also low - for the average five-inch model, for example, it is 294 ppi. Another negative point is that the frames around the Zenfone screen are very wide: on the sides, the thickness of the frames is no less than 5 mm, but in reality it looks even worse. And this is at a time when all manufacturers are striving to minimize these figures as much as possible.

But in terms of the hardware platform, Asus Zenfone smartphones are all right: they use a dual-core Intel Atom SoC with support for Hyper-Threading technology, which shows very good performance results. For example, the central model Asus Zenfone 5, equipped with an Intel Atom Z 2560 processor (1.6 GHz), demonstrates more than 20K points in the AnTuTu test, which is an excellent result for a smartphone of this level. Wanting to demonstrate their warm friendship with Intel, the Taiwanese even invited the regional director of Intel in Russia, Dmitry Konash, to the stage, who gave a short speech about the close cooperation of the two companies.

As for the network capabilities of the Asus Zenfone, they are quite modest: for example, there is no support for LTE networks here, since Intel platforms have still not made friends with fourth-generation networks. Wireless data transfer speeds here are limited to a theoretical figure of 42 Mbit/s (HSPA+), while in large cities 4G networks can already significantly exceed these figures, and 4G-enabled smartphones are in increasingly steady demand. You won’t find support for NFC, USB OTG, or 5 GHz Wi-Fi band in Asus Zenfone, but all new smartphones support simultaneous operation with two SIM cards, albeit only in Dual Standby mode.

In terms of software, all smartphones in the series are united by a new proprietary user interface, with which the developers replaced the proprietary Google Android OS interface. The new Asus ZenUI shell is called, a lot has been improved in it, the menu icons have been completely redrawn, new features have been added, including for working with communication tools, several new applications are pre-installed (What's next, Do-It-Later), a lot of attention is paid to the possibilities of working with cloud storages.

Now let’s briefly talk about each of the presented smartphones in more detail. The simplest and, accordingly, cheapest model in the line is the four-inch Zenfone 4. The smartphone is equipped with a dual-core Intel Atom Z2520 processor with Hyper-Threading technology with a frequency of 1.2 GHz. The device has only 1 GB of RAM, and the built-in user-accessible flash drive is 8 GB. The smartphone is equipped with a 5-megapixel camera without flash, and its battery capacity is small 1600-1750 mAh, depending on the specific modification. The smartphone is not heavy at all, its weight barely reaches 120 g, dimensions are 124x61x12 mm.

The central and, perhaps, the most balanced model in the line is the five-inch Zenfone 5. It has a larger screen, but the dimensions are not yet so large as to fit into the palm of your hand. The smartphone runs on a more powerful Intel Atom Z2560 platform with a processor core frequency of 1.6 GHz, it has more built-in memory and RAM, a better screen that supports glove operation, and a more advanced camera. The developer claims that the 8-megapixel main camera with a large aperture (F2.0), a back-illuminated sensor and image stabilization is responsible for the quality of the images. This camera's PixelMaster technology resizes the image sensor's pixels to increase light sensitivity by up to 400%, allowing you to take high-quality images in low-light conditions, even without using a flash. In addition, Zenfone 5 offers a 2-megapixel front camera that makes it easy to take self-portraits and video chat.

Asus Zenfone 5 is equipped with a more capacious 2110 mAh battery, the dimensions of the smartphone are 148x73x10 mm, and the weight is just over 145 g. You can read more about this device in the review, which has already been published on our website.

The largest of the presented smartphones is apparently the flagship of the new line. At least, in addition to the largest screen (as much as 6 inches), it can also boast the most productive SoC (Intel Atom Z2580 with a processor core frequency of 2.0 GHz), and the highest quality camera with a resolution of 13 megapixels. Again, it uses a larger battery that any flagship would envy (3300 mAh). But the 720p screen resolution is somewhat disappointing: with such a large physical area, the 1280x720 resolution is, of course, not enough. The dimensions of the device are 167x84x10 mm.

Pictured from left to right: Asus Zenfone 6, Asus Zenfone 5, Asus Zenfone 4.

It’s worth adding here that in addition to the smartphones themselves, many interesting branded accessories will be released for sale that can diversify the experience of handling these devices. These include numerous polyurethane protective cases, interchangeable back covers in a variety of color shades, and even a “smart” View FlipCover case that can allow the user to work with the device without having to open the cover - directly through a special window made into the front of the case.

And finally, about prices: Asus representatives announced that Zenfone smartphones will appear in the markets of Russia, India and Turkey in July at prices ranging from 3,990 to 9,990 rubles, depending on the model. Pre-order for Asus Zenfone will be available from July 25 on the website, and from August 1, smartphones will be available for sale at retailers such as Megafon, Yulmart, Svyaznoy, M.Video and others, as well as in branded stores Asus.

Details about prices for accessories have also become known: for models of the Zenfone series, it will be possible to purchase transparent bumpers, as well as back covers of various colors (black, white, red, blue, yellow) at prices ranging from 699 to 899 rubles, and a “smart” View case FlipCover - priced at 1,299 rubles. All accessories will appear on the Russian market from the first of August.

It is also worth adding that the company is so confident in the success of future sales of new smartphones in our country that they even offered a unique program of a 100% money back guarantee within ten days after purchase. This program will be valid from August 1 to October 1 at all Asus authorized service centers. In addition, special conditions for Asus Zenfone service have been announced - quick repair within 24 hours: by purchasing Asus Zenfone, the buyer will be able to use the quick repair service within 24 hours after contacting. This service is available at Asus Premium service centers in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

At first, the Taiwanese company producing personal computers, motherboards, laptops, graphics cards, mobile phones, optical drives, and Internet tablets was called “Pegasus,” that is, the name of the mythological winged horse. Now, throughout the planet, this company, which is one of the five largest manufacturers, is simply called ASUS.

Entrepreneurs cut off the first three letters from the name, and this was justified. After all, later in all reference books the company, which is the fifth supplier of PCs in the world in terms of sales, became among the first - with the letter “a”. Currently, the full name of the company is “AsusTeK Computers Incorporated”.

ASUSTek reached great heights because it had a lucky acquisition in Chen Shi. In the business world he is known as Johnny Shea. It was after the arrival of this talented manager, and this was in the mid-1990s, that the company began to flourish rapidly.

Johnny Shi joined ASUSTek in 1994. He became the general director and then the chairman of the company's board. The business owners immediately expressed their wish: to become leaders in the production sector of not only motherboards, but also personal computers.

In a market where fierce competition reigned, such a task could only be overcome by offering consumers an original idea. However, Johnny Shea found a solution that became the basis for the future philosophy of the company. And as a result, ASUSTek became a leader.

The strategy of the new head of ASUSTek was to immediately concentrate on two components of the business. We are talking about advanced technology and high quality products. Then, according to Johnny Chic, these components must be combined with speed of production and speed of service.

So, as a result, the company developed its own “winning formula.” It was equal to the cost of marketing, that is, quality times speed, innovation and service. And this price still had to be divided by the cost.

That’s how, just three years after Johnny Shea took over, the company’s sales volume increased 12 times, and profits grew by 20 percent. And now ASUS sells, for example, more motherboards than any other company. We only note that this number also includes rebranded products.

ASUS also produces a variety of components for products from other corporations, including Sony (PlayStation 2), Apple Inc. (iPod, iPod Shuffle, MacBook), Alienware, Falcon Northwest, Palm, Inc., HP. Many other equipment manufacturers use ASUS motherboards in their systems. Since 2008, such products have been produced at the production facilities of Pegatron Corporation.

There are many companies on the global market that produce gadgets, computer equipment and household appliances. Among them there are those that began their history in the 30-40s of the last century. These are entire concerns that, in addition to production, have many subsidiaries. But there are companies that appeared at the end of the last century, and now have become leaders in their business. One of these was the Asus company, whose country of origin is Taiwan.

Start

Of course, the company does not have such a huge history as its colleagues: HP, Aser, Sony and Lenovo. However, I was able to go a long way to now represent myself on the world market with the help of high-quality and reliable products.

For the first time, the company became known in 1989. Then Asus (Taiwan) was founded by four enthusiasts who fled from another eminent company Aser. Naturally, they already had experience working with electronics, and therefore it was decided to organize their own mini-concern in a small apartment.

Name

“Asus”, whose country of origin is Taiwan, received its name thanks to the animal. It turned out that it was based on “Pegasus,” which symbolized not only success and revival, but was also translated from Greek as “stormy current.”

As you know: “As you name the boat, that’s how it will float.” The same thing happened with pegASUS. If the first few months they only consulted other companies on the development of motherboards. After some time they realized that they could create a “mother” on their own. Moreover, the most surprising thing was that they successfully released it in the first year of its founding. This allowed them to open the door to the world market and officially become a company in 1990.

Leader

Four years later, Johnny Shea, who is currently the president of the company, came to the post of executive director. It was he who pushed the company to become a world leader in the manufacture of motherboards. Over time, Johnny Shi managed not only to keep the company afloat, but also to help it capture other segments of the global electronics market.

Development

In 1997, Asus models appeared. A little later, it was decided to release communicators under our own name. Which was also quite a significant step in the development of the company. Although it is still worth noting that the ASUS mobile phone, although it was first released in 2003, has become known only in the last couple of years.

Then the company underwent reorganization. As a result, the concern turned into three separate groups. The first, ASUSTeK Computer, worked on motherboards, laptops, smartphones, monitors and other components. But Pegatron Technology, under its own name, began to provide the world with ready-made computers, as well as cases for them and devices.

Unihan Technology is the third group that has worked on contract manufacturing of PC components. It has become a working platform for cooperation with distributors, resellers, integrators and OEMs.

Motherboards

The Asus company, whose country of origin is Taiwan, initially specialized in the manufacture of motherboards. Now it is the largest manufacturer in this segment. Its share in the world market is more than 40%. Statistics show that at the moment, almost every third PC is equipped with an Asus motherboard.

For four years now, the company has been the most expensive brand in Taiwan, and also the best manufacturer of motherboards. Over the years, a huge number of innovations have been implemented in this segment that had not been registered anywhere before.

This is how the revolutionary 16-phase power supply circuit appeared. Thanks to it, it was possible to significantly reduce energy consumption. The result is a “mother” that not only consumes less energy, but also produces a little heat. Both the first and second indicators have no effect on excellent performance.

A special EPU function was created, which is a controller of the parameters of the main components of a PC: video card, RAM, chipset, hard drive, cooler and processor. But Express Gate works on the fact that literally 5 seconds after turning on the PC, the user already has access to the network.

Laptops

Also, the Asus company, whose manufacturing country is Taiwan, eventually began working on laptops. Moreover, many of them have become not just a high-quality product, some have become leaders in a certain segment. We are talking about which, even if they cost exorbitant amounts of money, are still the most powerful and reliable machines.

The company has released more than 20 series of these devices. Among them there is ZENBOOK UX, which is the thinnest and most attractive laptops. This series is quite expensive and is perfect for business people. But ASUS X is responsible for multimedia, especially suitable for movie buffs and music lovers.

But it has become a very multifunctional series. There are budget models with attractive designs, as well as devices for businessmen, as well as fairly powerful laptops. ASUS G is a line that marked the beginning of the gaming boom. Thanks to the models of this series, every computer game lover will be able to plunge into the virtual world with pleasure.

Gadgets

Well, among other things, over the past few years the company has been able to introduce very powerful and high-quality smartphones. “Asus” (manufacturer - Taiwan) has developed a whole series of very successful and good devices called ZenFone.

There are several branches in this line: there are camera phones, large displays, powerful processors and simply beautiful models.

The ASUS phone is not just an excellent gadget, it, first of all, continues the tradition of quality from the company. Each model is assembled from strong materials; there are more budget models that, even though they are assembled from plastic, are still quite durable. There are also very cool metal cases, which, among other things, are real technical giants of the market.

The company can also boast that last summer it released the first smartphone on the most powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor. This honor was given to the excellent modified ZenFone 3 Deluxe model. In addition, the gadget is practically on the global market. And all thanks to 6 GB of RAM and as much as 256 GB of internal memory.

Of course, ASUS cannot be called an undisputed leader in everything. It produces the best models of motherboards, but their smartphones are too expensive, so they are less popular than similar Chinese models. The company's laptops are also beyond praise, but there are companies that specialize in the manufacture of these devices. Naturally, Asus cannot compete with them. But it is worth remembering that many of the experienced concerns have been on the market for more than 40-50 years, but the Taiwanese company has been operating for almost 28 years and during this time has achieved very cool results.

Asus is a brand of computer equipment owned by the Taiwanese company ASUSTeK Computer Inc. The assortment is wide. Price segments - from lower to upper. The equipment is made in China, the quality is good. Sold in almost all countries of the world, including Russia and Ukraine. Asus equipment is very popular in Russia. It is probably found in every computer and electronics store.

Story

The company was founded in 1990 in Taipei, Taiwan. There are four founders: T.H. Tung, M.T. Liao, Ted Hsu, Wayne Hsieh; all of them are electronics engineers, and all of them previously worked at Acer. The name is derived from Pegasus, the name of the winged horse from Greek myths, which was a symbol of inspiration. According to official information from Asus, the company's name indicates the spirit of creativity, purity and strength. In addition, Asus places special emphasis on innovation and its role in the company's success. It must be said that the company achieved success quite quickly, and by the 2000s it had already gained a good reputation, not only in China, but throughout the world.

In 2003, the company's first cell phone was released - the J100 model. In 2005, Asus launched its first LCD TV and the following year released one of the world's first ultrabooks; in 2007 the company announced the Eee PC netbook. But it cannot be called the first netbook: a similar device under the netBook (!) brand was released by Psion back in the late 1990s. In the same 2007, the company announced its intention to release Blu-ray drives, and a little later laptops with Blu-ray drives went on sale.

In 2008, Business Week ranked Asus in first place in the ranking of Taiwanese computer hardware brands, valuing the brand at $1.3 billion. In addition, the same Business Week has included Asus in the top ten ranking of the most successful IT companies - InfoTech 100 - for 11 years now.

2010 was marked by the release of the thinnest laptop in the world (model U36, 19 mm thick). In 2010-2011, the company attempted to enter the reader market with the DR900 and EA800 models, but this attempt ended in failure; The device turned out to be very mediocre and is now practically not sold anywhere. But Asus tablets (Eee Pad Transformer series) turned out to be more successful.

In 2012, the Asus company, brand and products received a total of more than 4,000 awards. Currently, ASUSTek is the fifth largest personal computer manufacturer in the world in terms of sales, behind HP, Lenovo, Dell, Acer). ASUSTeK's subsidiary, Pegatron (founded in 2008), produces electronic components for companies such as HP, Apple, and Sony. Another subsidiary, Unihan, specializes in the production of computer cases and similar components.

Currently, ASUSTeK is a public company, its shares are listed on the Taiwan and London stock exchanges. The number of employees exceeds 12,500 and the city's annual revenue is $12 billion. Company slogan: Inspiring Innovations. Persistent Perfection. Official translation: Spirit of Innovation. The path to perfection.

Assortment

Asus produces a huge number of computers, laptops, components, various devices and batteries. It is worth noting the very wide range of netbooks, laptops, ultrabooks, monitors; There are a lot of tablet computers in the company's assortment, but there are noticeably fewer communicators. Lots of bags, cases, backpacks for laptops and netbooks. In general, Asus produces almost everything that has anything to do with computers. Mice, keyboards, webcams, steering wheels, joysticks - whatever.

The design of Asus equipment is distinguished by rigor and consistency. Cheap models often look rustic; expensive ones are usually solid and beautiful. Some are equipped with an original body coating (rough, as, for example, in the Seashell series). Primary colors: black and various shades of gray. White devices are also available. There are very few models in bright colors.

Technical characteristics and functionality cannot be called extraordinary, but in the vast majority of cases they are quite decent and are almost always adequate for the price. Components such as motherboards, video cards, etc. I don’t consider them because I don’t particularly understand them. Therefore, I admit that here Asus, technically, can be, as they say, at the forefront

However, it is worth emphasizing the company’s very original design solutions, which are simple, practical, and elegant at the same time. First up are the Eee Pad Transformers, which have a nice detachable keyboard. Secondly, this is the Asus PadFone - a communicator that is inserted into the tablet, forming a single whole with it. A truly bold decision.

The quality of Asus equipment is good, but still not ideal. In general, the devices are solid. Build quality is good - with a few exceptions; Reliability is again at the level. And this is the intermediate result: Asus is a very solid technology with a good price-quality ratio, but it cannot be called “premium”, “exceptional” and so on. What is called a “workhorse”, but with a good (and sometimes even very beautiful) design. Most Asus devices are universal and will suit the widest audience of users.

Personal impressions. Reviews

I have come across Asus technology more than once. The Asus monitor has been working for about five years without any interruptions, and is generally very good: nice, strict design, good quality, normal functionality. Many people I know have Asus netbooks and laptops; they make a very favorable impression: they work quickly, the assembly is of high quality, and the design is usually beautiful. As a rule, friends do not complain about reliability, although some had problems with the keyboard, others with something else, but not very significant.

Reviews on the Internet are varied, but most of them are positive. Buyers note the following advantages: convenience, practicality, reasonable price, speed, quality, good case. Among the possible disadvantages: certain design flaws, problems and disadvantages characteristic of some specific models. Of course, marriage also happens. In the case of cheap models, the design is not always pleasant, the lack of some options, and the work is not very fast. But there’s nothing you can do about it: a cheap device definitely can’t be ideal, something has to be sacrificed in the name of price.
