How to pay with Yandex.Money with Android Pay

Android Pay is coming to Russia, and our customers will be among the first to try the new contactless payment application. Yandex.Money cards are already ready to work with this service.

Which devices are suitable

Phones with NFC and Android version 4.4 and higher (that is, almost all smartphones released after 2013) and watches with Android Wear 2.0 are suitable. You can view your operating system version in Settings by selecting Device Information.

Install the Android Pay application and add a Yandex.Money card for payment: both plastic and virtual ones will do. At the time of linking, 30 rubles will be debited from the account, within a couple of minutes the amount will be returned.

If you already use the Yandex.Money app for Android with NFC and want to try Android Pay, you will need to change the default payment app in your phone settings. When you touch the payment terminal with your smartphone, the last selected application will be launched.

How to pay

To pay for purchases with Android Pay, NFC must be enabled on your smartphone. At the checkout, unlock your smartphone and bring it to the contactless terminal. The phone itself will launch the Android Pay application (if you have selected it for NFC payments) and offer to confirm the payment with a fingerprint or your password to enter the phone. For purchases over 1,000 rubles, the cashier will ask you to sign the receipt or enter the PIN code from the card, if required by the payment terminal.

How to disable AndroidPay

To do this, disable contactless payment in the settings of the Android Pay application or NFC in the settings of your smartphone. You can return to contactless payment using the Yandex.Money app in the contactless payment settings on your device.

And how to understand if the phone supports Android Pay, we will tell in this article.

Android operating system

In the modern world, there is a constant increase in the sale of mobile devices from different manufacturers. In Russia, devices running on the Android operating system are especially popular. The official logo of the Android OS and its calling card is a bright green robot, easily recognizable on many devices and even smart watches. To date, devices running Android are the most popular in the world.

Which manufacturers produce their smartphones based on Android? The list of companies is very large. This includes manufacturers such as:

  • Samsung;
  • Xiaomi;
  • Acer;
  • Sony;
  • Lenovo;
  • Alcatel;

and many other famous brands. When choosing a mobile device to ensure that Android Pay works, you need to pay attention to its technical characteristics.

Specifications for Android Pay support

To be able to use the contactless app with your phone, your smartphone must meet the following conditions:

1. Android operating system version. OS must be at least Android 4.4. Android Pay will also not work on devices with a developer version of Android installed.

2.The presence of the NFC module in the phone. The NFC module is designed to transfer data from a smartphone to a payment terminal. If you are just going to buy a smartphone, then it is advisable to check with the seller or look it up in the phone's settings menu, in the "Wireless networks" section. For further work with Android Pay, the NFC module must be activated, this can also be done in the "Settings" - "Wireless networks" - "NFC" menu.

3. Official version of Android. Phones and other Android gadgets that have a third-party operating system installed or rooted will not work with Android Pay. This is a prerequisite by which Google is trying to protect its customers from possible fraudulent schemes. If you are not worried about this, then on our website you can find information on installing Android Pay on a rooted phone.

Android Pay not working

If android pay not working, then check the list of other possible problems, why the Android Pay payment service does not work on the phone:

  • Android bootloader must be unlocked;
  • Android Pay does not work if the Samsung My Knox app is installed;
  • A smartphone to work with Android Pay must be certified by Google. Android Pay is not supported on non-Google certified phones.

Which devices don't work with Android Pay

Despite suitable specifications, some phones will still not support the Android Pay contactless payment system. Android Pay not supported on the:

  • Samsung Galaxy Light
  • Samsung Galaxy S3
  • Samsung Galaxy Note III
  • Nexus 7
  • P9000 Elephone.

Phones supporting Android Pay

Almost any modern phone with an NFC module installed and a modern version of Android OS (above 4.4) will work with Android Pay. Apple and Samsung also released analogues of a contactless payment service Apple Pay and samsung Pay, which have their own advantages and disadvantages.

Check the specifications of your mobile device. If everything is in order, you can, and then you can start making convenient contactless purchases!

If you have any problems with Android Pay, leave a comment!

The one held this week turned out to be a failure. The service launched six months later than Apple Pay and Samsung Pay, but was absolutely not ready for mass use. As Google notes, Google doesn't do the same as Apple or Samsung: it suddenly turned out that it does worse business than some tiny start-up from Silicon Valley.

Firstly, Android Pay was released in Russia six months later than Apple Pay: owners of smartphones with Google OS once again felt flawed due to the fact that innovations reach them late. The exception is the owners of Samsung gadgets: they have their own system, and they opened access to it simultaneously with Apple Pay (that is, in October 2016).

Secondly, those who were responsible for the May launch of Android Pay in Russia shamefully missed the deadline. At first, all IT media unanimously reported that it would be possible to pay with an Android device on May 16, and then the release was suddenly postponed for a week. It's classic Google style - just like the company regularly pushes updates to its mobile OS. Nothing new.

Thirdly, Google hastened to send proud press releases to specialized publications that at 9 am on May 23, the Android Pay application will solemnly materialize in the Russian Play Store. Trusting journalists hastened to publish good news, but in vain: the program remained inaccessible for many supported smartphones for quite a long time. Then the application still downloaded, but the cards were not activated in it. Why? Mystery. Again - write off the effect of Google.

Fourth, from a purely technical point of view, Android Pay immediately went to the bottom. For example, the application never launched on Chinese smartphones with a proprietary shell - now Xiaomi owners are sitting in a waiting position and do not know if they will be allowed to use the new feature. Pay is also not available to those who installed root and received unlimited rights: the ban can be bypassed, but the method is very clumsy (although geeks should be able to handle it).

In addition, the new payment system, for unknown reasons, does not work on smartphones that do not have an NFC chip (such gadgets account for two-thirds of the market). The fact is that in Android Pay, in addition to contactless payment, there is also fast online payment, as well as instant payment in applications. Nothing prevented enabling support for these options on phones without NFC. But no - users will manage.

By the way, there were also those users who had Android Pay installed, but for some reason of their own refused to pay. There is only one recipe: “contact technical support”. Of course, they don't know anything either.

It's funny that Google even moved a well-known proprietary bug to Pay. When registering, you will be asked for an index, but if you live in Moscow or St. Petersburg, your real numbers will not work - you need regional ones. As a result, in order for the function to be activated, you will have to google the index of the conditional Zvenigorod or Gatchina - it’s easy, but still crooked.

And yet the main tragicomedy was produced by the Moscow metro.

So, first, Android Pay users were promised a month of trips for one ruble: you pay 35 rubles, and 34 rubles are returned to the card within 10 minutes. Then the conditions changed - obviously, the subway bosses decided that the discount was too fat. The new offer looked like this: you pass for 40 rubles, 20 are returned. Also not bad - 50% savings. But even here everything turned out extremely clumsily: no one waited for cashback. Turnstiles took 40 rubles, and sent back a harsh zero. Sadly.

To the question "What the hell?" the press service reacted quite detachedly: “The system can only work in a month. Now technical problems do not allow her to work fully. ” Thanks for the reassurance.

Why was it impossible to immediately properly prepare for the launch? You had a gigantic amount of time - why didn't you test your own system? Why did you screw up so badly in Russia, the country that got Android Pay as much as eleventh in the world? The answer is obvious - because it's Google. They are too fond of declaring a bunch of functions, and then for weeks (months, years) to figure out what and where does not work. Perhaps this is the right way, but the company from Mountain View again clearly demonstrated: if you want reliability and efficiency, look for an alternative to Google.

At 9 am on May 23, 2017. From now on, almost all smartphone users can use mobile payment services: Apple Pay is available on the iPhone, Samsung Galaxy flagships and A-series smartphones support Samsung Pay, devices with NFC on Android 4.4 and higher support Android Pay.

The principle is almost the same on all devices. You need to set up a password or fingerprint lock, download or run the pre-installed payment service application, enter card details, enter a verification code from SMS and agree to the user agreement. After that, you can pay for purchases with your smartphone. However, with a similar setup procedure, each of the three payment services has certain features.

WHAT DEVICES ARE SUPPORTED

With smartphones, everything is clear, but what about the support of mobile payment services on other devices?

Android Pay works on smartphones with NFC on Android 4.4 and higher. In addition, the service is available to users of smart watches running Android Wear 2.0.

Samsung Pay works on Galaxy flagships and A-series smartphones, as well as on Samsung Gear S3 smartwatches:
Samsung Galaxy S8 | S8+
Samsung Galaxy S7 | S7
Samsung Galaxy S6+
Samsung Galaxy S6 | S6 Edge (NFC only)
Samsung Galaxy Note5
Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) | A5 (2017) | A3 (2017)
Samsung Galaxy A7 (2016) | A5 (2016)
Samsung Gear S3 | frontier

Apple Pay works on iPhones, Apple Watches, iPads, and MacBook Pros with Touch Bar:
iPhone SE, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and later
iPad (5th generation), iPad Pro, iPad mini 3 and later, iPad Air 2
Apple Watch, Apple Watch Series 1, Apple Watch Series 2
MacBook Pro with Touch ID
Mac 2012 or later with Apple Pay-enabled iPhone or Apple Watch

WHERE CAN YOU PAY

When you use a mobile payment service, the first question in the store becomes: “can I pay with my smartphone here, or do I need to get a wallet and a card?”

Android Pay and Apple Pay can only be used on terminals that support contactless payment. There are three ways to identify them: at the checkout there may be stickers with the corresponding icons, at the top of some terminals with contactless payment there is a row of diodes, on the display of the terminal the inscription “attach a card” appears.

Samsung Pay can be used on any terminal, regardless of whether they support contactless payment. If available, NFC technology is used, otherwise payment is made using MST, proprietary magnetic stripe emulation technology.

PAYMENT MECHANICS

Bring the smartphone to the terminal and confirm the operation? Easy peasy! However, each payment service has its own characteristics.

If you need to pay for a purchase up to a thousand rubles, just turn on the screen of your smartphone and bring it to the terminal. You do not need to confirm the action with a fingerprint or entering a password. After three transactions, you will have to confirm the payment, or unlock the smartphone to reset the counter. At first glance, this is not very safe, but 3000 rubles is not a very large amount that can be debited from the account by third parties who have gained access to the device, and transactions that take place without entering a PIN code are easily disputed in banks. Purchases worth more than a thousand rubles using Android Pay occur like in other payment services: on the device you need to confirm the operation with a fingerprint or entering a password, and on the terminal you need to enter the pin code of the card.

When using Samsung Pay and Apple Pay, all transactions must be confirmed with a fingerprint or password, and if the amount is more than 1000 rubles, additionally enter the card's pin code at the terminal.

PAYMENT WITHOUT INTERNET

Does not catch mobile communication or have you turned off data transfer in roaming? Not all payment services will behave the same.

Your smartphone needs an occasional internet connection to keep Android Pay working. This payment service does not require a separate data chip in smartphones, so the device does not store user payment information, and unique tokens for transactions are generated on the server. Without an internet connection, Android Pay can be used for a limited period (at the time of publication there is no exact information on the duration) and you can make no more than six transactions.

Samsung Pay and Apple Pay store user data on a special chip that has the highest level of protection. All payment transactions take place directly on the device, so no internet connection is required for payment.

PAYMENT IN APPS AND ON SITES

What to do if you want to arrange shopping while lying on the couch and not getting up for a wallet with a bank card? There is a way out, but not for everyone.

AVAILABILITY OF ALTERNATIVES
