The method described below is simpler and more universal - it is suitable for any Lumia smartphone, regardless of whether it has a memory card slot or not. True, there is still a small limitation: the smartphone must have at least 600 MB of free space.

According to some reports, you should not have PFD (Preview for developers) installed - there are problems with it. Perhaps you just need to disable it in the program itself - I haven’t checked. Install the Windows Insider application on your smartphone.

Download the WPInsiderHacks archive, unpack it on your computer and run the WPInsiderHacks.exe file.

We connect to the same WiFi network to which the computer is connected. Then go to the WiFi settings on the phone, when the network is connected, turn it on proxy, write down the IP address to which the computer is connected ( network control center - connected network - details - ipv4 address- may vary depending on the OS installed on the computer), set port 8877, save.

Launch Internet Explorer on your smartphone and enter in the address bar: http:// PC IP address:8877 - let's move on.

Launch the Windows Insider application installed on your smartphone and click get preview builds. A list should appear in which we select the topmost item, where it says RM-976_1161.

After these steps, return to the WiFi settings on your smartphone and disable the proxy. Fans of Windows 10 Mobile, who are also developers, have released a special application to update unsupported smartphones to the latest builds of Windows 10 Mobile. It carries out all the operations with the registry that we described above automatically, and at the same time it can itself create a backup copy of existing key values. We'll tell you how to use it.

  1. Do it.
  2. Turn off automatic app updates in the Store settings. After you have completed all the operations, do not update the application under any circumstances. Extras+Info.

A user under the pseudonym RustyGrom presented the tool, as well as step-by-step instructions on what needs to be done to install the new version of the OS. According to the hacker, Microsoft servers check the PhoneManufacturerModelName value before downloading the update.

The WPInsidersHacks utility allows you to change this value and install Windows 10 on an unsupported device.

1. Reset your phone using the Windows Phone recovery tool;
2. Install the Windows Insider application from the official store;

Before a full reinstallation of the operating system, it is strongly recommended to determine the tasks that the updated device should perform:

If you still need to have a full-fledged “ten” on board, before installing a new OS, make sure that your device has enough space for a new heavy system. Pay attention to the characteristics of the device's processor. Windows can be installed only on processors with ARM architecture (does not support Windows 7) and i386 (supports Windows 7 and higher).

If your smartphone receives official updates, there will be no problems installing the new OS version. Users of earlier Lumia models will also be able to update their smartphone without any problems. The situation is much more deplorable for Android users, because their smartphone is simply not designed to install Windows, which means that if a new OS is forcibly installed, the owner of the phone runs the risk of getting a fashionable, but very useless “brick.”

Many Windows Phone users are familiar with how Microsoft, to put it mildly, screwed owners of older devices running Windows Phone 8.1. First, she crossed out their devices from the list of supported devices before sending out the first release update to Windows 10 Mobile, leaving only access to preliminary builds, and then closed that too. As a result, users who for some reason downgraded the OS to Windows Phone 8.1 cannot download Windows 10 Mobile. Only the more advanced still try to resist, doing Interop Unlock and disguising their devices as those models for which the “top ten” and all the current updates for it are available. But this, as it turns out, is not the only existing option. There is another method that does not require Interop Unlock and is suitable even for devices that do not have a memory card slot. This method was tested on Nokia Lumia 520 with Windows Phone 8.1 (8.10.14219.341) on board. We do not guarantee that it will help absolutely all users, since we do not have the necessary fleet of devices to fully test it. However, it is known that it is unlikely to work in the case of HTC 8s and Nokia Lumia 530.

What you will need:

1. Computer with Windows 7/8.1/10.
2. USB cable.
3. An account with administrator rights.

Instructions

1. Download the archive with the program for manual installation.
2. Download the archive with Windows 10 Mobile cab files. In this case, the build files provided are 10.0.10586.107.
3. On your computer, open the “C” drive and create the “App” folder in it (without quotes).
4. Open the created folder, then the archive with the program and extract the contents of the latter to the “App” folder.
5. Go to the “Updates” folder in “App”, open the archive with cab files and extract them to this directory.
6. Return to the root of the “App” folder, find the “start.exe” file and run it as an administrator (Right click on the file > “Run as administrator” > “Yes”).
7. In the program window, click on the “Settings” button. Make sure that in the window that appears, the path to the “Update” folder, in which the Windows 10 Mobile cab files are stored, is correctly set.
8. Close the Settings window you opened.
9. Connect your smartphone to your computer via a USB cable and unlock the screen of your mobile device.
10. In the main program window, click on the “Phone Information” button. If all the necessary drivers for a smartphone are installed in the system, a little information about it should appear in the window: name, manufacturer, model.
11. Click on the “Update phone” button.
12. Click once on the path to the Windows 10 Mobile cab files, and then on the “Ok” button.
13. The program will begin downloading cab files to your smartphone. Make sure that your smartphone screen is unlocked during the download and pre-installation of the update.
14. Wait for the update to download and install. The progress bar may freeze for a long time a few times, but this is normal. If during the migration process progress gets stuck at point 19 and 63%, you can remove the battery, insert it back and turn on the computer, or reboot the smartphone using physical buttons. To do this, you will need to press and hold the volume down button and the power button for 10-12 seconds.
