Nokia Lumia windows 10. How to install Windows using an Android smartphone

We have already described in detail for Lumia smartphones. However, it is aimed at devices equipped with a memory card. The method described below is simpler and more universal - it is suitable for any Lumia smartphone, regardless of whether it has a memory card slot or not. True, there is still a small limitation: the smartphone must have at least 600 MB of free space.

Warning: Remember! Everything you do is done at your own risk. Neither the author nor the site administration is responsible for the actions you take!

If you don’t know what Windows Insider is and how to flash your Lumia smartphone with the firmware on your computer in dead mode, then DO NOT read further!

According to some reports, you should not have PFD (Preview for developers) installed - there are problems with it. Perhaps you just need to disable it in the program itself - I haven’t checked. Based on the experience of those who tried it, the instructions did not work on Malaysian Denim. This instruction was checked and written in pure Russian Cyan!

Instructions

Install the Windows Insider application on your smartphone.

Download the WPInsiderHacks archive, unpack it on your computer and run the WPInsiderHacks.exe file.

We connect to the same WiFi network to which the computer is connected. Then go to the WiFi settings on the phone, when the network is connected, turn it on proxy, write down the IP address to which the computer is connected ( network control center - connected network - details - ipv4 address- may vary depending on the OS installed on the computer), set port 8877, save.

Launch Internet Explorer on your smartphone and enter in the address bar: http:// PC IP address:8877 - let's move on.

Launch the Windows Insider application installed on your smartphone and click get preview builds. A list should appear in which we select the topmost item, where it says RM-976_1161.

We agree with everything proposed, the application is closed.

After these steps, return to the WiFi settings on your smartphone and disable the proxy. Go to Windows Insider again, click get preview builds(You may have to sign in with your Microsoft account first). Only 2 options will appear. Select the second one (where fast) and confirm. At this moment my smartphone went into reboot.

After turning on the smartphone, go to Settings - updates and check for updates available for our device. If an update is found, make sure that the smartphone is charged at least 30% (if not, connect it to a charger) and begin the update process.

The method was tested by me personally - everything works. Good luck!

If these instructions did not work, you can explore the XDA forums or 4PDA: maybe someone has already encountered your errors.

A tool for installing Windows 10 on unsupported Windows Phone devices recently appeared on the XDA Developers forum.

A user under the pseudonym RustyGrom presented the tool, as well as step-by-step instructions on what needs to be done to install the new version of the OS. According to the hacker, Microsoft servers check the PhoneManufacturerModelName value before downloading the update.

The WPInsidersHacks utility allows you to change this value and install Windows 10 on an unsupported device.

WARNING: In the process of following these instructions, you will have to install a potentially dangerous application on your PC and also put your smartphone at risk.

Instructions from RustyGrom:

1. Reset your phone using the Windows Phone recovery tool;
2. Install the Windows Insider application from the official store;
3. In the application, open the “About” option and somehow save the data that will be shown (take a photo/write down);
4. Download the WPInsidersHacks application on your PC (link at the bottom of the publication);
5. Run WPInsiderHacks on your PC, allow the program to bypass firewall restrictions;
6. Connect your phone to a wireless network that has access to your PC. Configure the proxy connection so that the phone uses the PC to access the Network via port 8877;
7. Open Internet Explorer on your phone and enter http://:8877, where is the PC’s IP address;
8. Follow the link at the bottom of the false certificate;
9. Open and trust the certificate when prompted;
10. Launch the Windows Insider application and select Windows 10 installation;
11. Select the action you want to perform, for example, “Set to ATT Lumia 635”, and click on the arrow at the bottom of the screen;
12. Accept the agreement and click on the checkmark at the bottom of the screen, this will close the application;
13. Erase proxy settings and run the Insider application again;
14. Select the option to receive evaluation builds and log in using your Microsoft account;
15. Select fast branch and click on the arrow below;
16. Open your phone settings and check for updates. If everything went well, you will be able to install Windows 10. If you have Windows 8 installed, you will first have to upgrade to Windows 8.1;
17. After installation, open options and reset all settings again, then log in to your phone and recover lost data.

The disadvantage of this method is that to download even the most minor Windows 10 update, you will need to repeat all the steps in this instruction. Users of the XDA Developers forum and other online resources have confirmed that Windows 10 is successfully installed on HTC 8X, HTC One M8, Lumia 720, Lumia 930, Lumia 925 and Lumia 920.

In February 2015, Microsoft officially announced the release of a new version of its mobile operating system - Windows 10. To date, the new “OS” has already received several global updates.

However, with each major addition, more and more old devices become outsiders and stop receiving official support from developers.

Official installation of Windows 10 Mobile

Officially, this OS can only be installed on a limited list of smartphones with an earlier version of the operating system. However, in practice, the list of gadgets that can accommodate version 10 of Windows is much wider. Not only Nokia Lumia owners can rejoice, but also users of devices with a different operating system, for example, Android.

Windows Phone models that will receive the official update to Windows 10 Mobile:

  • Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL,
  • BLU Win HD LTE X150Q,
  • Lumia 430
  • Lumia 435
  • Lumia 532,
  • Lumia 535,
  • Lumia 540
  • Lumia 550
  • Lumia 635 (1GB),
  • Lumia 636 (1GB),
  • Lumia 638 (1GB),
  • Lumia 640
  • Lumia 640 XL,
  • Lumia 650
  • Lumia 730,

  • Lumia 1520,
  • MCJ Madosma Q501,
  • Xiaomi Mi4.

If your device is on this list, updating to a new OS version will not be difficult. However, it is worth approaching this issue carefully.

Unofficial installation of Windows 10 Mobile on Lumia

If your device is no longer receiving official updates, you can still update it to the latest version of the OS. This method is relevant for the following models:

  • Lumia 520,

  • Lumia 1320.

The new version of Windows is not optimized for these models. You take full responsibility for the incorrect operation of the system.

  1. Do Interop Unlock (unlocks installation of applications directly from the computer). To do this, install the Interop Tools application: you can easily find it in the Microsoft store. Launch the application and select This Device. Open the program menu, scroll down and go to the Interop Unlock section. In this section, enable the Restore NDTKSvc option.

    In the Interop Unlock section, enable the Restore NDTKSvc function

  2. Reboot your smartphone.
  3. Launch Interop Tools again, select This Device, go to the Interop Unlock tab. Activate the Interop/Cap Unlock and New Capability Engine Unlock checkboxes. The third checkbox - Full Filesystem Access - is intended to enable full access to the file system. Don't touch it unnecessarily.

    Activate the checkboxes for Interop/Cap Unlock and New Capability Engine Unlock

  4. Reboot your smartphone.
  5. Turn off automatic app updates in your store settings. To do this, open “Settings” and in the “Update” section next to the “Update applications automatically” line, slide the lever to the “Off” position.

  8. Record or take screenshots of the PhoneManufacturer, PhoneManufacturerModelName, PhoneModelName, and PhoneHardwareVariant values.

Installing Windows 10 on Android

Before a full reinstallation of the operating system, it is strongly recommended to determine the tasks that the updated device should perform:

If you still need to have a full-fledged “ten” on board, before installing a new OS, make sure that your device has enough space for a new heavy system. Pay attention to the characteristics of the device's processor. Windows can be installed only on processors with ARM architecture (does not support Windows 7) and i386 (supports Windows 7 and higher).

Now let's move on to the installation:

  1. Download the sdl.zip archive and the special sdlapp program in .apk format.
  2. Install the application on your smartphone and extract the archive data to the SDL folder.
  3. Copy the same directory to the system image file (usually c.img).
  4. Run the installation utility and wait until the process completes.

Video: how to install Windows on Android

If your smartphone receives official updates, there will be no problems installing the new OS version. Users of earlier Lumia models will also be able to update their smartphone without any problems. The situation is much more deplorable for Android users, because their smartphone is simply not designed to install Windows, which means that if a new OS is forcibly installed, the owner of the phone runs the risk of getting a fashionable, but very useless “brick.”

Many Windows Phone users are familiar with how Microsoft, to put it mildly, screwed owners of older devices running Windows Phone 8.1. First, she crossed out their devices from the list of supported devices before sending out the first release update to Windows 10 Mobile, leaving only access to preliminary builds, and then closed that too. As a result, users who for some reason downgraded the OS to Windows Phone 8.1 cannot download Windows 10 Mobile. Only the more advanced still try to resist, doing Interop Unlock and disguising their devices as those models for which the “top ten” and all the current updates for it are available. But this, as it turns out, is not the only existing option. There is another method that does not require Interop Unlock and is suitable even for devices that do not have a memory card slot. If you've been puzzling over how to install Windows 10 Mobile on an unsupported smartphone running Windows Phone 8.1, we recommend that you read these instructions.

This method was tested on Nokia Lumia 520 with Windows Phone 8.1 (8.10.14219.341) on board. We do not guarantee that it will help absolutely all users, since we do not have the necessary fleet of devices to fully test it. However, it is known that it is unlikely to work in the case of HTC 8s and Nokia Lumia 530.

What you will need:

1. Computer with Windows 7/8.1/10.
2. USB cable.
3. An account with administrator rights.

Instructions

1. Download the archive with the program for manual installation.
2. Download the archive with Windows 10 Mobile cab files. In this case, the build files provided are 10.0.10586.107.
3. On your computer, open the “C” drive and create the “App” folder in it (without quotes).
4. Open the created folder, then the archive with the program and extract the contents of the latter to the “App” folder.
5. Go to the “Updates” folder in “App”, open the archive with cab files and extract them to this directory.
6. Return to the root of the “App” folder, find the “start.exe” file and run it as an administrator (Right click on the file > “Run as administrator” > “Yes”).
7. In the program window, click on the “Settings” button. Make sure that in the window that appears, the path to the “Update” folder, in which the Windows 10 Mobile cab files are stored, is correctly set.
8. Close the Settings window you opened.
9. Connect your smartphone to your computer via a USB cable and unlock the screen of your mobile device.
10. In the main program window, click on the “Phone Information” button. If all the necessary drivers for a smartphone are installed in the system, a little information about it should appear in the window: name, manufacturer, model.
11. Click on the “Update phone” button.
12. Click once on the path to the Windows 10 Mobile cab files, and then on the “Ok” button.
13. The program will begin downloading cab files to your smartphone. Make sure that your smartphone screen is unlocked during the download and pre-installation of the update.
14. Wait for the update to download and install. The progress bar may freeze for a long time a few times, but this is normal. If during the migration process progress gets stuck at point 19 and 63%, you can remove the battery, insert it back and turn on the computer, or reboot the smartphone using physical buttons. To do this, you will need to press and hold the volume down button and the power button for 10-12 seconds.

If you want to install the “Anniversary Update” (Build 14393), which, by the way, works much better than the “November Update”, you will need to do and, for which this update is available.
