Program for reducing photos. How to compress a photo or picture without losing quality in various ways? Add an image to the program

Image Resizer– very valuable and useful free program in Russian for working with images on Windows. It is designed to allow you to quickly and easily change the image resolution or convert it to any other format. Image Resizer has a nice design, ease of use and speed.

Anyone can download Image Resizer for free using a direct link on our website. This is the most accessible and functional tool for working with pictures on a computer.

Every computer should have such a program, since often, not experienced user You simply can’t do without it. That is why this program is presented on our website.

Peculiarities

  • Convert files between different graphic formats;
  • Inserting watermarks into an image;
  • Reducing the size of photos for publishing on the Internet or sending by e-mail;
  • Changing image compression strength and resolution;
  • Support JPEG, GIF, BMP, TIFF and other files;
  • Support for RAW formats of digital cameras: Canon, Nikon, Minolta;
  • Changeable options and settings for advanced users.

If you work with photographs or pictures different formats, With using Image Resizer for Windows you can easily compress them or change the size, for example, in order to send it to your loved ones email. People who work with website design, as a rule, very often need to compress images as much as possible without visual loss of quality. Image Resizer is a program that allows you to do this.

It also contains "presets" ( ready-made installations) to convert images optimized for iPod, NTSC, Sony PSP, HDTV, DVD FULL HD.

The main thing is to indicate the image on your computer or phone, specify the quality from 1 to 100, and click OK at the bottom of the page. The rest of the settings are set to default. How more indicated " quality» in settings (80-100), themes the size will be larger file. And vice versa, lower quality(50-75) will give smaller size JPEG file. If necessary, you can find out the level of quality (compression) with which the jpeg file was created.

If after compression the size jpeg file On the contrary, it has become larger than the original, which means you need to lower the quality level from 80 to a lower number, for example, set 60. The sizes in pixels and megabytes before and after compression can be seen after processing or pressing the OK button. If, at a quality level of 40-50, the size is still larger than the original, then there is no point in compressing the image - it was already well compressed. You can only try to remove the metadata embedded in the jpg file or remove exif + make the jpg progressive without losing quality.

In the settings you can select the type of subsampling (decimation), which allows you to achieve greater compression jpg file with minimal losses. Subsampling 1x1 gives the most best quality images, bright color transitions are preserved, mainly suitable for high-quality previews or small preview images. 2x1 subsampling is the most common method, used in almost all digital cameras, compression of sharp color transitions occurs horizontally, allows you to achieve smaller size file without much loss, great for large images. 1x2- the same as 2x1, but only the averaging of sharp color transitions will be vertical. Subsampling 2x2 averages sharp color transitions horizontally and vertically, allows you to achieve the smallest file size, and is suitable for blurry pictures.

The original image is not changed in any way. You will be provided with another processed image in jpg format.

1) Specify the image in BMP format, GIF, JPEG, PNG, TIFF:

2) Options JPG compression file
Reduce size in megapixels: reduction disabled reduce by 10% reduce by 20% reduce by 30% reduce by 40% reduce by 50% reduce by 60% reduce by 80% make no more than 0.5 MP (≈943x530) make no more than 1 MP (≈1366x768) make no more than 2 MP (≈1880x1060) make no more than 3 MP (≈2300x1300) make no more than 5 MP (≈2980x1670) make no more than 10 MP (≈4220x2370) make no more than 20 MP (≈5960x3350)
(Reducing the size by 20-30% in pixels or megapixels works well to reduce file size) Subsampling: 1x1 (best quality) 2x1 (average quality) 1x2 (average quality) 2x2 ( low quality) Do not change (Thinning, averaging of sharp color transitions) Standard JPEG Progressive JPEG
(A progressive jpeg file almost always takes up 2-3% less space than a regular jpeg file with the same quality) Copy EXIF and other metadata? Yes No
(“No” may still reduce the file size, but all additional information, listed) Quality (from 1 to 100) (The main parameter, the lower the quality, the less JPEG size file)

Treatment usually lasts 0.5-20 seconds.

The photographs of "Red Pepper After the Rain" indicate the level JPEG quality for comparison:

Dimensions of this jpg pictures depending on the quality level (Q is quality, KB is the size in kilobytes):
Q 10 = 2 KB; Q 15 = 2.7 KB; Q 30 = 4.3 KB; Q 50 = 5.9 KB; Q 60 = 6.7 KB; Q 70 = 7.9 KB; Q 80 = 9.8 KB; Q 90 = 14.1 KB; Q 100 = 46.5 KB.

From the above examples it can be concluded that best ratio size-quality can be a quality level from 75 to 95. And in order for the picture to occupy the smallest size and at the same time be more or less normal, a quality of 60-70 is suitable. If quality does not matter, but you need small size file, then a quality percentage from 30 to 50 is suitable.

Please note that the file size progressive JPEG pictures are usually 2-3% smaller than the standard one with the same image quality, and they will also open beautifully when loaded into an Internet browser, as is usually done in films! An example of a standard and progressive JPEG image can be viewed.

In this article we will talk about how to reduce photo size using suitable free programs.

Digital camera or phone with digital camera probably already exists in almost every family! And the Internet allows you to show the pictures you take to your friends via a computer.

Of course it's very convenient!

But in this regard, in many cases there is still some problem. It happens that pictures are taken through a good digital camera turn out to be very large in size, whereas for easy viewing on the computer large size completely unnecessary. And since not everyone has fast and unlimited Internet, then transfer photos from large size can become a serious inconvenience.

I have already written about this in more detail in the article about “”. By using standard program Paint allows you to resize photos one at a time. But, if there are a lot of photos, then using Paint this process becomes quite inconvenient.

In such cases, they come to the rescue special programs, allowing you to do both single and group reduction in the size of photos. And in this article we will look at a couple of such programs - ImageCompression And Photosizer.

Download ImageCompression

This free program in Russian!

Setting ImageCompression

Installation of the ImageCompression program begins with a simple welcome message, in which we click Next:

The next window shows where on our computer it will be installed this program. Typically installation takes place on drive C(system drive) to a folder Program Files(where all the main programs are installed).

The name of the program is also displayed, by which you can use the Start menu to find this program to launch. You can also leave it as suggested.

Here you can choose whether to create a folder in the Start menu or not. I recommend not checking the box so that the folder with shortcuts for launching and uninstalling the program will be added to the Start menu for easy finding and launching it:

A shortcut to launch on the Desktop is not required so as not to clutter it. You can leave the icon on the Panel quick launch, but this is also not necessary at all - then I’ll show you how to run ImageCompression via the Start menu. Let's go further:

Click Install:

To run the program immediately after installation, leave a checkmark on Run ImageCompression and click Complete:

And in the future, ImageCompression can be launched through the Start menu like this:

How to use ImageCompression

Using ImageCompression couldn't be easier—everything is intuitive. But, just in case, I’ll tell you in more detail step by step:

1. Select a folder on your computer with photos that you want to reduce.

2. Configuring compression parameters. Here you can set restrictions on height and width, as well as compression quality. The default is height/width 800 and quality 80%.

This is quite enough to optimally reduce the size of photos when transferring them over the Internet for simple display. If you need better quality, you can increase these values.

In general, here it is up to your own discretion - try it several times, look at the result (quality of photos) and you will already have an idea in what situations and for what purposes you should reduce photos.

3. You can immediately set the name of the folder where the files will be saved. compressed images and whether it is necessary to add something before the name of the compressed file. You can also check the boxes for which image formats need to be processed, as well as in which format to save.

In general, everything here is also presented as the best option.

4. If you need to specify a different save location compressed photos, then this can also be changed. And all you have to do is click on Start processing:

After group reduction of the photo size, we can even immediately go to the result to view:

The original photos remain unchanged - just another folder is created with compressed photos graphs inside the one containing the original photographs.

So, even if after viewing the compressed photos we decide that they are not of suitable quality, we can simply delete the entire folder with these compressed photos, set new values in the settings and compress the photos again until we get the result that suits us.

In my case, to write this article, I compressed 54 photos, each of which weighs approximately 1 MB. If you transfer all of them via the Internet, then 54 MB. after all, for some users who do not fast internet, this is a decent amount.

Note: These are my original photos, they turned out to be only 1 MB each. Are there photos from more high resolution, which can weigh up to 10 MB. each! Imagine about 540 MB. stream over the Internet for easy viewing!

This is why programs for batch reduction of photo sizes, such as ImageCompression, can be very useful!

So after compressing all 54 photos with the above standard settings The program I got was less than 7 MB. Now that's another matter!

And you can compare by the quality of the photos.

By the way, you can see how much an individual photo weighs by clicking on it through Explorer right click mouse and selecting Properties:

We look at how much a photo weighs to decide whether to send it in this form or compress it, reducing its size:

This ImageCompression program also has a convenient function that allows you to directly context menu Explorer sends photo folders for compression. To do this, in the program itself, you need to check the options: Add an item to the folder menu in Explorer “Compress images in folder...”. In the program snapshot (above), this function is labeled with number (5).

As a result, you can select a folder through Explorer, right-click on it and then:

As a result, according to the previously installed program settings, a folder with compressed photos will be created in this folder.

Very comfortable and simple program! Nothing extra! And most importantly, it is free and in Russian!

Reduce photo size using Fotosizer

Program Photosizer It works exactly on the same principle as the previous one, so we won’t consider the installation and use process in detail.

It is also free, has a Russian language and weighs the same as ImageCompression. Moreover, unlike the previous one, it is more common among users.

Download latest version Photosizer You can visit the official website of the developers of this program by following this link >>>

It will begin automatic download programs. But if it doesn’t start, click the download link yourself, as shown in the picture:

The program is multilingual, including Russian, which is selected at the very beginning of installation.

U Photosizer slightly different interface, but otherwise the functions are the same, so without additional instructions you can figure it out, especially if you have already used the ImageCompression program.

IN Photosizer I liked the fact that here you can create a folder for saving changed photos and add not only folders with original photographs, but also individual photos from different folders:

There are others here too additional features, which are not included in ImageCompression, so you can test both programs and choose the one that you personally like the most.

The operation of the resource depends on the number and size of downloaded files, therefore photo compression is one of the ways to reduce site loading time. Media content occupies most of the time required to generate a web page, excluding failures in the database connection or retrieving information from other domains.

To speed up work, it is recommended to analyze HTTP requests, redirects, compress scripts and styles as much as possible, reduce the number of cycles, etc. Work in this direction will give results, but the simplest and effective method– this is the compression of pictures and photographs, so let’s look at the best programs that can reduce the weight of images without significant loss of quality.

Caesium photo compression program

Caesium is an excellent tool for reducing image size that is quite easy to use (no specific skills required). At the same time, the program has an open source code, so anyone with enough knowledge can make their own adjustments. If a person creates good algorithm processing, the function will already be built in in the release of the program. Given the availability of the code, the program is developing very quickly.

The application allows you to work with 3 formats - PNG, JPG, BMP. Despite the limited selection, 95% of all pictures belong to these formats. If the images are in a different format, they can always be converted to standard JPG or PNG.

A significant limitation in the work is that PNG utility works exclusively in 24-bit format.

To use the program, just follow the instructions:

  1. Download the application;
  2. Drag the pictures you plan to compress into the largest field;

  1. In the “Compression Options” section, you need to move the slider to the “Quality” position if the priority is on the quality of the source image;
  2. The “Output Folder” field must be filled in with the path for uploading images after processing;
  3. You can start the procedure by clicking “Compress!”;

  1. The scale below indicates the progress of the action;
  2. When finished, you can open the processed photo.

Photo compression program FILEminimizer Pictures 3.0

The application has a radical vision of the problem. During the compression process, most programs try to preserve quality, size, format, etc. FILEminimizer Pictures, with default settings, is able to change format, size, encoding and remove metadata. You can set a more gentle mode in the settings, although the behavior of the program cannot be changed in all respects.

The operating principle is quite standard and requires minimum quantity actions. You need to do the following:

  1. Specify the original image or several;

  1. Select the folder where the processed copies will be placed;
  2. From below, configure the “Compression Setting”, where there are 3 positions: Low/Print – the lowest quality, Standard – an average combination of quality and size, Web/E-mail – compression with minimal loss of quality;

  1. Customize the behavior of the program, if necessary;
  2. Run the algorithm by clicking on “Optimize Files”.

As for the compression results, a test was performed, during which a reduction in size was found depending on the quality of the pictures and format: PNG - 26.8% (usual result), GIF - 16.5% ( good indicator), JPG for web resources – 39.3% ( best result among all studied programs). In each case, the loss of quality is visually noticeable.

FastStone Image Viewer

The variety of ways to compress photos for sending by mail can hardly be compared with FastStone Image Viewer. The program is closed source, but is developed professionally. The application is quite functional and can process images various methods, and compression is only part of all functions. The application is mostly used as an alternative standard utility viewing pictures.

An important advantage of the application is that it allows you to change the width and height of the photo. For the Internet and mail, this function is very important, since not all services work with multiple formats. The program also allows you to archive images so as not to clutter up your email space.

Let's look at how to use the program:

  1. Download the application from the website https://www.faststone.org/;
  2. After installation, you need to specify the path to the pictures using the navigation on the left. When working with a large number of them, it is recommended to create separate folder for images to make importing easier;

  1. Click on the “File” button;
  2. Select “Email”;
  3. In the menu that opens, you need to configure “Size Selection” - select from the drop-down list suitable size. Among auxiliary functions you can select “Add frame”, “Rename” - specify the name format. If you need to save space or traffic, you need to click “Pack to archive”;
  4. Click the “Send by E-mail” button, if you need these pictures on your computer, click on “Copy to”.

ImageCompressor

Now let's look at a way to compress a photo without losing quality, or rather, with minimal and invisible loss to the eye. ImageCompressor is quite powerful, but not functional. Considering that we only need one function, the utility is quite suitable. The human eye does not perceive a decrease in quality.

To use the program you need:

  1. Download and install the utility;
  2. Import images; to open Explorer, click on the ellipsis key;

  1. Near “Quality” there is a slider that adjusts the ratio of quality reduction and weight reduction;
  2. To get an image from original size or vice versa, to make it smaller, you need to select the “Size in%” item, for full-size mode you need to set 100;
  3. To select a format, you need to check the “Save as” item by highlighting the radio point next to required format JPEG or PNG;

  1. Near the line just below the format selection, you need to indicate the path to the folder for recording pictures;
  2. After the settings are set, you need to click on “Compress All”.

FileOptimizer

The optimal program for speeding up the loading of web pages. Here everything is done as intuitively as possible. Only a few actions are required from the user, FileOptimizer will do the rest itself.

  1. Download and run the program;

  1. Click on “Add files...” and select in the Explorer window necessary files for compression;
  2. Click on “Optimize all files” and wait for the procedure to complete; you can monitor the process in the “Status” column.

The program also contains some settings; if you don’t want to delve into them, you can use the instructions described above. You can view the options in the “Options...” item.

Compression is performed as quickly as possible during processing JPEG format, and the utility takes longer to cope with PNG. The program does not spoil the image quality, but compression occurs with a slight difference in size.

Compressing images can significantly speed up the loading process of website pages, reduce the amount of space taken up on hosting and generally optimize the resource.

If you have any questions about the topic “Review best programs to compress photos”, you can ask them in the comments

if(function_exists("the_ratings")) ( the_ratings(); ) ?>

From time to time, every user needs a photo compression program.

The situation is quite banal and simple - you go on vacation, take a camera with you, but there is not enough memory in the device to take more pictures.

There is practically no memory on the computer either.

Then already existing photos needs to be compressed. This means that you need to make the files weigh less, that is, take up less space in the device’s memory.

We will look at the 5 most convenient and popular programs that will help solve the problem.

But before that, let's look at one interesting question. Is it possible to compress photos without losing quality?

Many say that this is possible and even give examples of programs that supposedly do this. In fact, it is impossible to compress any files without losing some of their information!

Yes, the algorithms may differ, and some of them allow you to compress photos with minimal losses that will be invisible to the human eye.

Others make it possible to complete the task so that the loss of quality is not noticeable even to the most the best devices. But it is simply impossible to compress a picture without losing quality at all.

Most algorithms and programs that use them produce results similar to those shown in Figure 1.

As you can see, here the loss of quality is noticeable to the naked eye.

But this does not mean that all these programs should not be used. You just need to choose the ones that work better than the rest. But we did it for you.

Enjoy!

Below are all five programs that compress images best (they lose the least amount of quality) and are the most convenient to use.

Caesium

Let's start with a very unusual tool that copes with the task perfectly. Moreover, even a novice user can use it.

Interestingly, Caesium is open source.

This means that anyone can absolutely calmly take this very code and add some of their own adjustments to it.

If developers like them, they will implement them into next version programs. In addition, Caesium algorithms can be used for own use.

True, this program only works with three image formats - PNG, JPG and BMP. However, this is true for most similar programs and you definitely shouldn’t give up Caesium because of this.

However, if you have pictures in a different format, it is better to convert them to one of the three above-mentioned formats.

“But that’s a completely different story”! (With)

When it comes to photo compression, Caesium has some limitations in its work.

The most important of them is that if you use PNG, the program will only work with 24-bit images.

Otherwise, the images even increase in size. Otherwise, Caesium is an excellent photo compression tool.

Using the tool is very simple, all you have to do is do the following:

The program can automatically reduce the width and height so that the resulting image meets the criteria of a particular resource.

In addition, using of this instrument You can archive pictures. Moreover, after compressing the files, all of them can be easily placed in an archive.

This will reduce their size even further.

All in all, FastStone Image Viewer is a very multifunctional and really high-quality thing!

To use it, you need to do the following:

  1. First, you need to download the program from the official website and install it accordingly.
  2. It is advisable to copy all files intended for compression into one folder before starting work. Then it will be easier to import all of them into the program.
  3. After this, launch FastStone Image Viewer. On the left there will be a tree of folders in which you will need to select yours. When you click on it, all the images will automatically appear in a large window on the right.

Rice. 3. Selecting a folder with photos in FastStone Image Viewer

  1. Now select the pictures to be compressed in the same window on the right. This is done with the mouse cursor.

Rice. 4. Selecting images in FastStone Image Viewer

  1. Now click "File" on the left top corner programs. Select an option from the drop-down menu “Send by e-mail”.

Rice. 5. The “Send by e-mail” item in the drop-down list of the “File” menu

  1. The compression menu will open. Where it was originally written, «<Выбор размера>» , in the drop-down menu, select the size of the output image. If desired, check the boxes "Add Frame" And "Save EXIF/IPTC data". Also, if desired, all pictures can be renamed. To do this, check the appropriate box and set a name template. Next, check the box “Pack images into archive”, if you want this action to be performed.

Rice. 6. Compression settings in FastStone Image Viewer

  1. Click on the button "Copy to..." and in the window that appears, select the path to save the files.

Rice. 7. “Copy to...” button in the compression settings window

  1. Wait for the process to complete.

As you can see, it’s also nothing complicated.

ImageCompressor

Everything about this tool is extremely simple. There are no special display elements like in FastStone Image Viewer.

And there are not many functions here at all, but specifically one, and this is image compression.

On the one hand, this is even good, because the developers paid as much attention as possible to it, and were not distracted by anything else.

Judging by many reviews and tests, ImageCompressor does its job a little better than Caesium. The quality of compressed files is practically not lost.

By at least, this is not noticeable to the human eye.

Using ImageCompressor is as follows:

  1. First, download and run the program on your computer ().
  2. Import source images into the program. To do this, click on the button with the ellipsis. Will open standard window file selection in which you need to select the ones you need.
  3. Next to the “Quality” inscription, use the slider to indicate the desired quality of the resulting images. If desired, you can specify it manually in the corresponding field to the right of the slider.
  4. Check the box next to “Size in %” and use the slider to select 100 or enter this number manually. This will show the program that you want to save 100% of the photo size.
  5. Next, check the box next to “Save as JPEG” or “Save as PNG” - depending on the format in which you want to save the image.
  6. Click on the ellipses button under the words “Save Compressed Images...” and in the window that appears, select the folder where the images will be saved. compressed pictures.
  7. Click on the “Compress All” button and wait for the process to complete.

Rice. 8. Working in ImageCompressor

Upon completion compressed files can be found in the folder specified in step six.
